After 5 days in Louisiana and having wonderful meals, Heard Dat Kitchen stood at the top of my list as the most memorable. I ordered the Superdome, Dat Fries, and the bread pudding. The Superdome is an incredible dish with blackened fish, potatoes, and onion rings, all with a house made lobster sauce that brings everything together. The Superdome is one of the best dishes that I have had in recent memory. The Dat Fries were also delicious with candied bacon and ranch that were wonderful to finish every last bit of the lobster sauce. For dessert we had the bread pudding which was fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside with an amazing sauce on top. Fantastic food! We were surprised at the amazing quality of the food, given that when we went there it wasn't crowded and looked more like a shack. Obviously, one shouldn't judge a place by looks alone-this was some of the most amazing foods we've had in New Orleans (and we've eaten at touristy places like The Court of Two Sisters to local places like Gris Gris in lower Garden District). Cheese fries like dishes abound , and many dishes find themselves swimming upstream through heavy lakes of cream . Chicken wings with sugary sauce are also an offering. No wonder we are all getting cancer and having heart attacks from obesity. Perhaps they could green things up a bit . How about collard greens that are not cooked down with molasses or sugar until all nutritional value is gone? I visited HeArd Dat Kitchen And lets just say don't judge a book by its covers. The dining room was closed today but let's just say the food was delicious. I had fried chicken with Mac n cheese along with string beans. The food was freshly prepared and was delicious. The fried chicken was seasoned to perfection and craw fish added to the Mac which added a twist. The string beans were delicious , my meal came with potato salad as well. The potato was ok ; reason why because I'm not a big fan of mustard. My sister ordered the gumbo which comes with grill cheese and potato salad; she really enjoyed her meal. My best friend had the blackened catfish and mash potatoes which she really enjoyed. My older sister also had blackened cat fish with red beans and rice. The homemade beverages the tea and the punch was delicious; I'm an old lady so had to add water a little too sweet for me. The customer service here is great and will definitely re-visit. I discovered this particular restaurant on a Facebook group dedicated to the gems of NOLA's Black Owned food spots. Heard Dat had the highest number of likes under suggested locations for me, so I made it my first destination. Tia was super sweet and helpful! The food was HOT and DELICIOUS. I ordered the Bourbon Street Love (fried chicken over mac & cheese with their house made Cheese & Crawdat Cream sauce). It was probably the best chicken I've had in a long time. Everything was seasoned perfectly. You ready didn't even need the salt or pepper that was readily available on the table. There was plenty of street parking. Well I have mixed emotions regarding Heard Dat Kitchen. Ordering delivery was easy, delivery was on time. I ordered potato salad, grilled cheese sandwich, and 12oz gumbo. My hubby ordered the fried fish, Mac and cheese, peas, and potato salad. First, it is deviled egg potato salad. It was good I think considering we received two table spoons of it (see photo) each. I was just shocked by the portion in comparison to the price. Maybe this is the take out portion; still inappropriate. I admit the NYC foodie in me expected a much more enthusiastic grill cheese sandwich. You know three cheeses or gruyer but it was an old school tasty regular grilled cheese. Despite those slight disappointments the gumbo was a brilliant surprise and if you are going to Heard Dat get the gumbo. It had all the flavor of gumbo from my childhood. Besides the fact that family loved their seafood: "Dat Fish," Dat Shrimp," and "Surf and Turf," The beet salad was fresh and tasty with a perfectly blended olive oil vinaigrette.
