I stopped at Heartbeet after leaving a work appointment that took place near Energy Corridor. I was due for a late lunch, and Heartbeet sounded perfect. Heartbeet is part of Hungry's, but is a separate place meant for their plant-based menu. I was hungry, but also didn't want anything heavy like a veggie burger and fries. The one guy working that afternoon was very helpful and was able to make a nice, fresh side salad with a vinaigrette to substitute the fries that would have come with my veggie "cheesesteak". It took a while to prepare, but everything was indeed fresh! I feel like there was more bread than there was filling, but the filling was delicious, even if it was mostly mushroom. The ambiance was beautiful too! Wide open windows helped bring in a lot of natural light. My meal was about $20 with tip, so quite affordable too given the quality and when compared to other similar establishments. read more

I've been here twice over the last 2 months for dinner. It's located adjacent to Hungry's restaurant and you can order from either menu while dining in Heartbeet. The difference is that Heartbeet is vegan and Hungry's isn't. Heartbeat has an attractive interior with large windows and also offers outside patio dining too. Parking is all around the building with most of the space in the rear. My first visit was to order the wild mushroom and arugula pizza for $14. It had mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, marinara, cashew queso and of course arugula. That pizza was a 5. Excellent in every way including complete deliciousness. I loved it and it made me want to return. The second visit was to see if this restaurant was really that good so I went with a handheld, the Philly Cheesesteak w/fries for $15. This sando was on ciabatta bread with onions and red and green bell peppers, mushrooms and cashew queso with aioli and it disappointed me tremendously and I gave it a 2. Why? The menu also said it came with herb sautéed seitan which is suppose to be the "steak" part but it wasn't there. The waitress told us that it had been deleted from the sandwich for some reason. Therefore it really wasn't a Philly cheesesteak. The bread with onions, peppers, mushroom and sauces just didn't cut it. Remember the old Wendy's commercial? Where's the Beef?" The fries were very good being hand cut and sprinkled with Cajun dust but the meal overall was a fail (1.5). It just wasn't any good because of the sandwich. Plenty of seating inside/outside for lunch, next-door to their other restaurant "Hungry's". I liked the overall concept and the detailed descriptions of each vegan dish on the menu. I enjoyed the fusion bowl and their list of ingredients; the serving size and presentation were very fulfilling. We also tried the Curry Tofu which was a little disappointing. I would say as some have mentioned before that part of the hot dish is cold (the rice) when it shouldn't be. The two restaurants share a kitchen, and I don't know if that's one of the reasons due to the walkover from one side to the other. The service wasn't particular responsive during Sunday so we didn't want to bother. Overall, a good vegan option on this side of town. read more

Even though this place has an awkward entrance from Hungry's, the staff is super welcoming and the manager/owner very friendly. The interior is good and feels clean, and fresh. Coming to the food, the ceviche were probably the best thing we ordered. It was super tasty and couldn't tell it was vegan. But the Philly cheesesteak was the complete opposite of good. It was dry, tasteless and had a lack of condiments. I tried a bite of the egg plant taco and the eggplants were soaked in not so good frying oil. We strive to be whole food plant based and really struggle to find good meals on long road trips. In this case, Yelp did not disappoint traveling back to austin from Florida. Heartbeet really has something for everyone. Not vegan. Ok. Add some egg. Or salmon. Vegan junk foody? Sure Philly cheesesteak and fries might be your jam. Wfpb. They've got you covered - all the bowls and salads hit the mark. Food was super delicious. Lots of veggies. Lots of flavor. Portions were really generous in contrast to what other reviewers mentioned. We even ordered 3 entrees, and I walked away stuffed. Crispy eggplant tacos - 2.5/5 - the beans served had a stink. The eggplant was fried in stale oil so that had a stink too that made me nauseous. Avocado tortilla was good. 2. I like the concept of this place, really cute vibe, lots of vegan "options" and a solid drink and wine menu. I love vegan friendly spots, lately I have only been going to " vegan only" restaurants, but this had so many options we wanted to give this a try. The reason why I tend to prefer vegan only options is because I don't have to be the "annoying vegan" who asks, is this vegan and then has to ensure they know the difference between a vegan and vegetarian. Anywhoo, we walked in and were able to sit anywhere. Our sever was the bartender, which was fine. My biggest issue with this place are two things. 1st one, make sure your staff knows the difference between plant based and vegan. It seemed like the word was used interchangeably and there is a difference. A better way to help would be to clearly label on the menu what is vegan vs what is not. This way if your staff doesnt knwo it's clear on the menu. My second gripe is that the food is cooked at the restaurant next door, so when they walked it over, it got a good ole blast of the unusually super cold Houston day and by the time it got to the table, part of the dish was cold. The food is good, I really did enjoy it there were a few misses though. While I did like it, I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to eat here again. I reside on the opposite side of town. I would say its a good spot for vegans and non vegans and a " safe place " to accommodate a variety of dietary restrictions. read more

Then for ever to get food even longer for anyone to find out we are done. I took tomato bisque it was average at best and I took fries that turned out to be cold and hard as a rock. Just get any and everything. Honestly. This is my go to vegan healthy lunch option. Everything I've ever had on the menu is delicious but in particular I absolutely love the lentil soup. I love it so much that I have tried to replicate the recipe at home and I've gotten pretty close. I've had the tofu wrap- delicious. Their bean burger is spot on as well. The old infamous "Nextdoor" Bar and lounge. They love beets here. A lot of food and drinks with the beet theme and thats great unless you suffer from kidney stones. The beet infused tequila margarita is amazingly dangerous. Easy to slam and they are $12 each. Beautiful interior with absolutely great patios. (Yes they have 3 different patios) Nice bar with one side inside and the other side outdoors. I kind of feel like I'm in Austin with the retro colors. I've always loved this location. Neat place in Memorial. Same family as Local Table, Hungry's...plant based menu and keep in mind none of us are veg but wanted to try. Food and atmosphere were great! Tried the Snacker's Trio, Roasted Beet "Poke" Bowl, Crispy Eggplant Tacos, Philly Cheesesteak and Heartbeet Burger. The Chipotle drizzle they put on most of those dishes is AMAZING! I'd buy a jar! The tacos are very similar to the tenderloin tacos at Local Table but with crispy eggplant. The burger was crispy on the outside and with the guacamole and pico, was very filling. So good! Those sweet potato fries are the best. The Philly was a slight miss for us as it was missing some texture, although it was also our first time trying seitan so we did not know what to expect. The area itself is beautiful, and not to mention the seating (orange seats & plants & cute little orb-like centerpieces. It was just wow!) The waitress gave us plenty of time to look through the menu and also offered Hungry's menu (their sister restaurant). There was just so much to choose from. My family loves Heartbeet. We are far from vegan but love good, real food and Heartbeet hits that mark. My go-to is the Bahn mi but my husband loves the cheesesteak. The Brussels sprouts are a must as well. Drinks are interesting-in the good way- a little twist on classics. If anyone in your dining party (young children) do not wish to eat vegan, they can order off the Hungry's menu. It's such a gem to have this in our backyard. I had the Ceviche and the Nutritional Bowl with a Turmeric Spritzer... and yes, it was totally way too much food for one person and I was very hungry and still could not finish even half of it. Love this place. My sister discovered it about three weeks ago and I have literally been there 4 times since. It's just a great break from greasy, unhealthy foods. I love the fusion bowl with sustainable salmon ( I'm not vegan nor vegetarian). I have also had the soba noodle salad with salmon and it was good also. It's very quiet and not super busy. Service is great and they let you order from the Hungry's menu if you would like. I am definitely a fan and it's on my side of town, so they have a loyal fan here. I have been wanting to try Heartbeet for some time now and I am so glad I finally did! It surpassed any expectations I had! I ordered the Harvest Pizza and WOW, absolutely delicious! One of the most flavorful pizzas I have had and the best part is that it was loaded with hearty veggies!! WOW!!!! Words cannot describe the experience I had here today. Heartbeet is located right next door to Hungry's Memorial location. Hungry's being a gem of Houston for so many years has put out a new concept. Being 100% plant based it holds niche that none others do. Not only being 100% plant based it had an extensive spirt, beer and wine list to go with. We started with a welcome app platter that was given for us to taste a few things before we began. Cashew Queso and the Citrus-Marinated Ceviche were my top favorite! After this we moved on to entrees. I went with the Philly "Cheesesteak" Sandwich with Hand-cut Fries it had Chopped garlic- & parsley-sautéed seitan, caramelized onions, red & green bell pepper, wild mushrooms, cashew queso served on toasted ciabatta. Seitan was tender and the perfect balance of flavors. Second entrée was the Crispy Eggplant Tacos with Black Beans. They are wrapped in a house-made avocado tortilla, Napa & purple cabbage slaw, house-made spicy pickled vegetables topped with chipotle drizzle! Three total tacos with a side of the black beans. From here would have been desserts, sadly I had to get to my next spot. I will be back though and will for sure spread the word for this new vibrant plant based concept. Be sure to stop in and have Crystal take great care of you. You will not be disappointed. Now here is the side note for all you carnivores. I am 100% a total meat eater. The restaurant had a slight smell that turned me off kinda like sewer, the bathroom needs to be cleaned.
