went for thanksgiving dinner, had a reservation, wasn't needed place was 1/2 empty, price fix $60 per person dinner, with 4 adult beverages and 1 soda plus a side, the bill was $320 for 3 people! wasn't expecting that. The food was decent, nothing mind blowing at all. the GIANT shrimp cocktail was 4 medium 41-50 per lb shrimp on greens, cocktail sauce was super hot, our brussels sprouts side $14 was VERY spicy, and the sprouts were undercooked and hard to chew. All vegetables were cooked under, and hard to chew, steak ordered by 1 person was fatty, and there was a $10 surcharge, 1/3 was discarded. Turkey was okay, nothing great about any of the flavors in general very bland. PROBABLY will not return, might give it one more try but nothing to rave about. Staff was okay, very erratic service, our waitress left in middle of dinner, never told us and we had to request who our new server was, beware they ADD TIP of 18% onto check and do not tell you. Desserts were eh, two pie options were offered, neither impressed. Good beer selection and many high end spirits but you pay, $15 and up for all cocktails, $8 up for beer. No value for cost whatsoever, nice cozy place but you pay for an upscale black tie ambience , no dishes to wash no leftovers . A few other things, they were insane trying to rush us out, constantly hawking the dirty dishes to the point my daughter started to get an anxiety attack and shed tears! One waitress was so loud and over the top she made everyone uncomfortable. The take home leftovers; the brussels sprouts were inedible, soaked in chili sauce, the heat was overwhelming! and so undercooked I could night bite into any of them, my chicken was beyond dry, it became dog food, the green beans just bent upon biting, no break through, the only thing I salvaged was mashed potatoes! We went with high expectations , my daughter had been before and said nothing was near the same or as good. When you spend $123 per person for a price fixed $59.95 dinner you expect to be blown away, we were not. We most likely will not return, the food was very average and lacked flavors besides heat, the drinks were standard and VERY expensive, service was VERY spotty and lacked any sincerity, not good things, we left a $65 tip and have no idea who got it. There are 20 restaurants nearby we would patronize before considering a return. Seeing as there were 80% empty tables when we left and 50% empty or more throughout, they are in trouble. read more

My girlfriend ordered the "Fish and Chips"... the french fries arrived COLD and the fish looked like it was a Gorton's frozen foods entree: flat and thin with a smattering of bread crumbs. No whole filets here and no light, fluffy batter. I ordered the "French Dip", unfortunately. The "shaved prime rib" (gray roast beef or pot roast perhaps) was more like shaved shoe leather... tough and tasteless. The two star rating is really a gift: one for the Magner's Irish Cider, and one for the gracious "Valma", a terrific waitress who could do well in a fine(-er) dining establishment. Oh, and last but not least: the entire experience was made 'even more enjoyable' with the ever-present stale smoke wafting from the cigar lounge down the hall from the dining area... blech! Yuck!! Clean your draught beer taps! Guys, please. I beg you. You are easily a 4-5 star establishment. However, tonight makes the 4th time I've been here and either sent beer back, or just endured. It's a lingering mildew finish in the back of my throat. I noticed on four different draft beers. You can even smell it on the lighter beers like pilsners. Some part of your draught system needs serious cleaning and sanitization. Somewhere in the basement, the chiller, or anywhere mold and mildew could get a start. Yes, I'm a craft beer and whisky snob. I did, however, have my GF confirm the smell and taste. The food and the service is otherwise top-notch. The Bad - CIGAR BAR - We went the other night to smoke some cigars with friends, first the waitress was not great. I'm really hoping it was her first day, but even then, that's not an excuse. When asked what's good, there was a 15 second dead stare/pause, when asked what scotch's they had, she no idea (it's a cigar bar, at least know some scotch's), when asked what's the deal with Whiskey Wed, had no idea. (and it was a Wed when we went). To make it even worse, they charge a "Cutting Fee" of $10 PER CIGAR if you bring your own cigar, come on... I've been many cigar bars, NEVER had a cutting fee before. To make it even worse, they only accept CASH if you want to buy cigars from them, sounds shady... We dropped a lot of money on food and booze, a cutting fee? My recommendation would be for GREAT AMAZING food and a REAL cigar bar that would never charge a cutting fee go to Jaime's in Clifton. I will not go back again for Cigars, MAYBE and I stress MAYBE for appetizers, but not a full meal... read more

Absolutely wonderful GastroPub. Variety of craft beers, drinks and wines. All the food the eight of us had was terrific. Pork Chop "wiener schnitzel" was moist and meaty. Short rib stroganoff was atypical (no sour cream) but fabulously delicious. Love the remodel. Homey feel. Separate spaces allow you to feel part of the crowd, but intimate still. It makes me so sad to place such a low review. This used to be one of my favorite go to spots, but since they changed their menu (which is still NOT accurate online - be MINDFUL of this because all of the prices have significantly increased) it has gone downhill. When their steak frites was on their previous menu, it was delicious, now it's basically inedible and $15 more expensive than it used to be. The dry rub wings were the best and now they are soggy and taste reheated. We told the staff our disappointment when the menu changed and that the quality of the food was lacking then, but still We gave the new menu/chef another try today hoping the last time it was just a miss, but it's still extremely disappointing. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because the staff is still very nice and they were attentive. You used to have to strategically plan when you'd go because you couldn't get a parking spot, today it was like a ghost place. This really should tell management exactly what it needs with the loss of the clientele and to take the feedback from the previously loyal customers. We will not be coming back after this. read more

The food was delicious!! Creative plates and the taste was phenomenal. A bit on the higher side for pricing at a bar. But this is not your ordinary bar food. Service was great, our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable of the plates they served. We originally wanted to sit inside for dinner but the place smelled like stale cigarettes i thought it was just at the entrance thinking people smoke by the door. But once i sat down the smell was overwhelming :/ so we decided to sit outside it was a cool perfect summer night for the patio, bummer i wont be able to go during the colder days since I will not sit in a place that smells like that. Friday at 8 pm reservation for 2. we were seated in front of one of the fireplaces. The Brussel sprouts with Thai honey chili sauce was terrific as was the surprise of an order of Fries with truffle oil and Parma. Never miss the Brussels sprouts. I ordered the New York strip very rare. It was! So many places don't understand those of us who like steak very rare. the kitchen got it right. My wife's salmon was moist. Desert was a bread pudding in creme Anglaise and the vegan chocolate mousse. Both terrific. Service was professional with a smile and that didn't seem unusual for the wait staff and runners. All delivered well not just got me but for others. I say that because I didn't hear grumbling from the guests on Friday night not see anyone picking over their food with that look that tells you they think something is wrong. A good experience. FIRST TIME - Not long after they opened for business, I called in an order based on the offerings from their website. Had confirmed I wanted the "family style" pot of 2-4 servings (I can't remember the dish). Website states "Family-style take out or delivery served in our signature red pots". They aren't. I went to pick up my order and no one was at the host stand. After flagging down a server who told me to "wait here", a manger-type person finally shouted a name at me. It was not MY name, but it was A name. He told me to go wait at the bar to pick up my food. SECOND TIME - Ordered online through their web portal. Set options for pickup at a certain time, but received a confirmation email it would be ready ASAP anyway. Had to call to confirm, no, not asap, but rather the time I'd requested. THIRD TIME - About a week before Valentine's Day I called to see if they were doing a special menu for the holiday. The man I spoke to said, no, the regular menu online is the one for 2/14. This time I called in my order so as not to repeat SECOND TIME (see above). I asked , when I ordered, if I could pay cash and was told I could. While the food was good, they could not make change. While I wated for the hostess to get change from the back, I noticed, sitting there by the menus - wait for it - the SPECIAL VALENTINE'S DAY MENU. FINAL TIME - We looked at the "Take Out Tuesdays" schedule at the beginning of the month, and marked our calendar for the Meatballs and Champ dish on 2/20. My wife ordered and picked it up, and when I opened it, I saw it was... Lemon Chicken. On the website, that's listed for 2/27. So I called, and got escalated to a manager who did everything she could to lay this on us: "You should confirm the dish when you order", "You need to check the website again" (we had - it was still wrong when I called), etc. Finally, she, the manager, says, "What would you like me to do?" Gosh. I don't know. You're the MANAGER though, right? So maybe think of something? In the end, we did get our money refunded and had a whole crapton of chicken we wouldn't eat. Finally, my wife said, yesterday, we're not going to eat their food anymore. It's not THAT good, and isn't worth the making one of us disappointed, frustrated or both. My advice to Hearth & Tap for everyone that WILL be coming back, get your shit together. Geez. OMG!! The food is absolutely delicious!! After a disappointing trip into NYC when we came back to NJ we decided to eat out. Someone mentioned Hearth & Tap and while I had never heard of it, I went along with the group. One of the best picks ever. We started with drinks, had some appetizers, entrees and then dessert. Not one thing was disappointing. Everything was so tasty and perfectly made and presented. Already have pans to go back in two weeks!! YUM! 2weeks later went back to celebrate my brother's birthday. I had lunch here for the first time yesterday. While the atmosphere is pretty good (nice outside area, inside looks fun but because of the smoking license it has that 1990s old smoke'n'beer fug in some areas) the service left much to be desired. It wasn't a particularly busy day - 3-4 tables the whole time I was there - but the server was harried and it was hard to get her attention. I asked for a substitution on my meal, raw veg instead of bread with the pimento dip. First the server said she wasn't sure, then that she had to check with the chef, then returned to the table to say "It's $4 if you really want that." The menu doesn't indicate no substitutions and $4 for veg with an appetizer seems both expensive and arbitrary but, figuring I'd get some great fresh, local fare (given that H&T prides itself on local vendors and ingredients), I said yes. What arrived was a cut up carrot and some celery stalks, half of which weren't crisp. Disappointing. After we paid our bill, we were then offered a card to collect points. However, after waiting about 15 minutes for the server to ask the manager a question about it, we were told the points for the meal we just paid for couldn't be put on the card. First time eating dinner at Harth and Tap...We call ahead to make sure there is a table outside available the host says no wait tables are available. We get there in less then ten minutes and now it's a 45 minute wait.. Then we say ok we will eat inside and notice a back table that is wide open. We ask what's wrong with that table and why can't we sit there? Hosts response is that's the owners table and we keep it open. Sounds like the "owners table" is more important then customers. I'm thinking to my self what is this Goodfellas with Joe Pesci? "The owners" table? Never ran into that before.... Meal was ok at best....nothing spectacular and service was so so...they should train there staff before letting them work alone. The tuna unlike the salad tuna was cooked medium as opposed to seared, with some not Chou and slaw on the side. It was the same amount of tuna that was on top of the salad...but at TWICE the price. Went here for the first time last night with my boyfriend - we sat outside which was a major perk for me; the seating area was beautiful and even though it wasn't lit last night, the fireplace looked like it would be great in the fall! The drink I had was great (Strawberry Basil Fizz) and their craft beer list was really long, so you have a lot to choose from if that's what you're into. The food menu was somewhat shorter than what I was expecting but you could tell that each item's ingredients were really thought out - definitely a foodie experience! Went here recently for a late Saturday night dinner with my boyfriend. The restaurant was still busy, so I am glad we called ahead for a reservation. The inside of the restaurant has definitely changed for the better from the Porter House days and I'm happy to report the craft menu suits the new style. The menu is focused on local or organic meats and poultry in the framework of a updated version of typical Irish pub food. Its works great. I ordered the organic chicken with vegetables and mashed potatoes and my bf ordered the beef pot pie. We enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back. I loved that the fire place was on and the hearth pizza oven bartop had its own area. The service was pretty good as well. Only drawback is the smoke from the cigar bar and the floor was slippery in some spots. read more
