State of the art airport with state of the art facilities. The hub of British Airways. Spent close to 7 hours and it was the most bearable layover I've ever experienced. Well connected terminals with trains and we'll labelled with information screens almost everywhere to help you find your way.. There are numerous customer support booths for those just in case moments and clarifications or to just get general help with your airline. Found it very convenient that there were so many charging stations for your devices and the waiting bay area seats are also equipped with charging ports, though not all were working. One thing to note is that to use them your charger should have the English style plug . The terminals have lots of shopping areas to buy a wide range of stuff from souvenirs to liquor and perfumes. There are also numerous restaurants to eat from . The airport also has quite areas and prayer rooms. All in all it is a very equipped airport to sort out almost the needs of anyone transiting through London. read more

Imagine for a moment that its too early in the morning to be up, you walk outside and the sky is telling you that now is the time to be in bed, it feels bonechillingly cold and that's not including the rain. Remember of course to watch your step because its slippery. That was the background for the rest of my review. So when we finally arrived at the airport it felt like I was royalty. The staff for united went out of their way to make sure I would be able to stop for a bite and relax before my flight. The service was great across the board whether it was the deli where my food was free or the coffee shop put it on the house. There are tons of shops and services available - whatever it is you heart desires its probably available there. The one thing that would have been nice would have been usb charging stations - hence 4 stars instead of 5. It made for a memorable and warm, happy experience - I would recommend coming through here if flying in to London. read more

We arrived here in the morning and it took about an hour to get through customs. Customs is digital- scan your passport at the machine. It didn't take us too long to get out bags, but the baggage claim area had lots of luggage sitting everywhere. When we were trying to leave the airport, we were waiting for the elevator. There was a crowd of people waiting for them as well and it took a long time. It was ridiculous. read more

Why write a review for an airport (other than to whine about long security lines, lost bags etc etc)? So what am I doing? Well after my experience yesterday (May 23 2019) I am compelled to write a review on Heathrow airport, one of the World's biggest, because in my opinion as of May 21 they have achieved virtual perfection. How? Tell me Brian! Let me count the ways: 1. Despite its size, the parking around Heathrow is plentiful, and there are options to park both at very reasonable cost and in easy walking distance of your terminal (I will discretely share with Yelp friends - fear that if I share with everyone I won't be able to get space there for myself! 2. Plenty of car rental options at decent prices (avoid cheap, remote companies who can end up being a very bad deal at the end of the day - friends can write and I can educate) 3. In terms of terminals I typically use the Queens Terminal (2). Perfection! Clean, bright, shopping is beyond good - dare I say excellent? I seldom use any more but if you need to kill time, don't have access to lounge and need souvenirs, jewelry, almost anything from Harrods, to WHSmith - go for it 4. Restaurants etc - fabulous - seldom use because I have access to the wonderful United Lounge - but many, many great options 5. Check in. Do get there in plenty of time - but it all goes speedily, and IMO the security surpasses anything I see at any US airport. That said - you have paid for it - airport taxes on a flight to the US (buried in your fare) is about $200. So you pay (only $10 in many US airports) but they deliver. 6. The United Club in the Queens Terminal - beats all US United Clubs (they have to because of the quality of the non-US competition- really, really good - love their breakfast especially. The only United offerings that compete are the 5 new Polaris lounges in the US but I am still not convinced Polaris beats this (except in Polaris you get table service). 7. Arriving in Heathrow (effective May 21 2019) - PERFECTION!! Nationwide the UK must be a decade or more ahead of the US in the implementation of technology. For example - nationwide tickets to park are virtually obsolete - license plate (number plate) recognition! But what blew me away yesterday - despite the long distance from my landing gate, and a slight delay because of a medical emergency on board - from wheels down to through passport control, picking up our 3 big and heavy bags, through customs control was LESS THAN 30 MINUTES. We could have been in our parked car less than 5 minutes later and on the road - but we chose to freshen up first (2 hour drive home). The big BREAKTHROUGH which surpasses everything in the US. No human interaction involved, no separate lines for EU, UK, US etc - everyone (with a chip passport) goes in the same (essentially non existent) line to the plethora of machines - push in the passport at the photo page, allow the camera to confirm it is indeed you and less than 2 minutes later we walked through (2 officers for many many machines in case there was a security issue I guess), our bags were on the belt and we grabbed a free cart and walked out of the secure area past one last duty free stir into the public part of the terminal. Huge airport, my overall experience here was pretty good. I didn't really have any problems. The flight home was pretty good

Efficient modern airport that does what it is designed to do, which is to move a large number of passengers through each day. However, beware one of the money changers in Terminal 2 at the counter by the arrival hall who took advantage of my trust by helping himself to a hefty 25% commission off a US$100 transaction. (I found out later that day that the then-prevailing rate was 80 pounds, but he paid me just 60 pounds) I believe people are generally honest so shame on me for not checking the exchangerate before transaction with him. Regardless, it is disappointing when you run into characters like this who can't stop themselves from taking advantage of travelers when the opportunities arise). read more

Heathrow Airport is the airport that is located very close to the city center of London. You can take a express train which you can literally catch every 15 minutes. The airport itself seems like a normal airport with friendly border agents. The agents all seemed really nice and pretty relaxed. Overall it was a good first impressions while coming over here. After our passports got stamped on, we then walked to the luggage carousels. Just look at the digital board to find out which number you will pick up your checked bags at. Literally got our luggage and then headed straight out. The whole process was super quick compared to other airports that I have been to. But this airport seems a little bit outdated and for sure needs a revamp! Still besides that I thought the process of exiting was smooth and went by fast! read more

I honestly hated this airport so much! Very unorganized and the pick up location is jammed packed with so many cars. It's the worst! The elevators skips floors and I feel like out of all the elevators only two of them works. Overall this place just sucks! Some changes need to happen for sure! Every time I come here I have problems!! Generally,​ with their security, they have got to be the most strict and rude I have ever encountered. Unfortunately,​ that is the only thing that sticks in my mind when I leave and before I come here. So all of the great things that the airport has to offer are trumped by that. I will say that it is easy to get to, and the drop off/pick up options are wonderful. Much better than most any other airport. Getting into London is easy with​ cabs, buses​ and the tube, you can't​ go wrong there. The inside is clean and there is a ton of shopping and food (though not much for vegans and vegetarians​) The convenience of having nearly every airline flying to Heathrow and at all hours is very nice. I just can't​ get past how difficult it is to get through their security every time. I'll update this post as I continue to fly through and hopefully I will have better updates. read more

This review is for the duty-free​ section. OMG! The duty-free section of this airport is like Sephora/Selfridges/Harrod's on steroids! It has most of the major cosmetic brands and the full lines, not just a select few products and shades. The staff is very willing (almost too willing) to help you. The candy and alcohol selection is also expansive. The food options are okay. Definitely​ one of the better airports from a duty-free standpoint. read more

I was traveling to LAX from Valletta, Malta through London Heathrow and they said at Malta Air that my bags were checked through to LAX. So, I get to Heathrow and am basically rushed in the security line, why we have to go through security again I don't know, and I lose my luggage tags I am in such a rush to catch my plane. I had about forty five minutes to get from the gate to my departing flight. The drive to Terminal 2 took 15 minutes, not 6 minutes as our shuttle was stuck behind two tankers. It just sucked all around. No one was helpful. I almost missed my flight. My bags are still at Heathrow and I had to make a report to get them as I lost my tags. I hope the security guard is happy, he seemed angry and bitter. My bags were not checked all the way to LAX. read more

Heathrow is a lot farther from London than I expected, so be prepared for an expensive taxi ride. Also be prepared for very long walks. Do not wait until the last minute to head to your gate! On my flight out of Heathrow, it took about 10-15 minutes just to get to the first gate. There are signs which tell you how long you'll have to walk to certain gates (some were 20-30 minutes). I struggled with finding nice souvenirs in London, so the airport was a great option. There are plenty of duty free shopping and eating options. read more

TLDR: a pretty great and eddicient airport! ___ Going through this airport on connections was so quick and easy - and that's because of all the technology they have. Kiosks that scab your face, supper efficient TSA lines - I barely talked to anyone - it was wonderful. The small bag for liquids is annoying. Be warned they make you cram allllll your liquids into a tiny little bag. Anything that doesn't fit gets tossed. Hard to fit my deodorant, eye contact solution, cologne and toothpaste into that little bag so make sure your packing efficiently and small travel sized things. Massive airport with a few cool lounges. I got to enjoy two different lounges on my trips here, reviews of those will be separate though ;) read more

This is by far the most beautiful and efficient airport I have ever experienced while traveling. I flew thru here for my recent trip - once for a 24 hour layover in London, and the other, with a two hour layover connecting from Paris to Miami. Yes - it is true they DO NOT PLAY when it comes to liquids in security, but even with that the entire experience is quick and painless. When traveling thru here make sure you have your liquids in a clear ziploc and that all your liquids fit in that bag. If you don't have one, they will provide one for you. Again - make sure they fit if not you'll have to say goodbye to whatever doesn't fit in said bag. Other than that - I loved how high-tech the airport was. You scan your boarding pass to get to security, and folks line up to pass your bags thru. If you leave your water bottle in your bag like me because security moves so fast and you forgot to remove it - you may be held up as their search your bag. This part, is rather slow. But alas, if you fly with enough time to depart it's not a problem. Now on to the actual airport once you're inside - it is beautiful. So many luxury shops, great lounges, and food options galore. Coming from Miami I am used to things being delayed - so I was surprised to find how fast boarding happens at this airport. The airport is pretty large so make sure you find your gate and allow yourself some time to get there. read more

Not the best airport I've been to while traveling aboard. The terminals are dispersed, sometimes requiring a bus to get to from one to another. Once we got to the main terminal where the shopping and food is, it's really crammed, the shops are small and the choices not too many. Some brands I've never heard of. If anything Harrods should be bigger and sell more signature products. I was totally unaware that my plane was boarding down to the last row. The way to get there is through this hallway of escalators that slide you down, not sure where my entrance is, it just feels like a train station with numbers by the glass doors. If you missed it you need to come back around. Very claustrophobic feel to it. Not pleasant, doesn't make me think of London in the best way as I leave. Recommend upgrading and expanding the airport. Higher roofs, chandeliers, big open windows please! read more

Nothing like getting off a 9 hour flight, walking 10 minutes to border control, just to wait in line for an hour and a half. There were about 10 plus booths and only 2 officials checking passports! If you have an EU passport, it's obviously 100 times quicker to come through security (lucky). To make it worse it felt like it was 80 degrees there. At least turn the air down for comfort. After the fact I later complained to my mom about how long the wait was and she laughed and said she had waited 3 hours at border control when she visited last summer! The return departure through here was a much more pleasant experience for me. After reading all the horrid reviews about security and how strict they are with liquids, I made sure I packed my carry on smartly. They have small, approved clear bags they make use to store your 100ml or less liquids in through security screening (available free of charge right before you enter security screening). I think I had about 6-8 little bottles I was able to squeeze in there (you are only allowed to use one bag per person). We luckily also had gold status so went through the fast track line which was empty at 7:30am on a Monday. Walking to gate B in terminal 2 was a 15 minute walk at a leisurely pace- definitely allow yourself to arrive early to the airport because this place is huge!! Be prepared for lots of walking so plan your trip accordingly. Overall a nice, modern airport with plenty of (high end) stores to shop at while you wait. Don't forget- come early, be patient, and be ready to walk a lot!! read more

I don't travel much so my experience and encounters with airports and few and far between. It's a pretty sizable airport with lots of open space and a large waiting area with lots of food options and gift shops around. I found it weird how the gate number isn't announced until 15 minutes before departure, but like I said, since I don't have much experience with airports, this is probably very common practice lol. With JFK in NYC, the waiting areas are usually right by the departure gates and there are usually longer hallways around you with shops so you'd have to take a longer stroll to get something. One aspect I really liked were the globe structures outside by the parking lot with names of capital cities below it. I thought that was a really cute touch and wish they were in front of the airport instead of by the driving roads just so I could take a picture with it lol. Security went by quite smoothly as well and the workers were friendly and patient with everyone. I also had trouble scanning my passport to check in for my flight and it was frustrating that there wasn't anyone to do it for me. I asked a guy sitting at the help desk and he told me to just keep trying, I'm not sure if there's a counter that wasn't self-check-in since no one directed me to that. I'm assuming there probably was but they probably really wanted to encourage passengers to use the self-kiosks to minimize the lines and didn't direct me there. read more

Avoid this "airport" at all costs, it is an embarrassment to aviation and the UK. It is a complete shitshow, a fucking disgrace and shambolic processes and management. My return itinerary on British Airways was BCN-LHR-LAX on 11/13/2022. I had a 3 hour layover that I figured would accommodate my connecting flight. 1) Flight Connections: An utter joke of a process. My flight from BCN landed in LHR about 20 minutes behind schedule. The plane taxied to the gate but not all the way. After a few minutes the pilot apologized and informed everyone they were waiting for a groundscrew in order to guide the plane to the gate. About 30 minutes passed and finally a groundcrew showed up connected the airbridge allowing us to deplane at Terminal 5 (B gates). After deplaning, I looked at the departures board and was told to head to A Gates for security processing. I was able to take the tram from B gates to A gates. 2) Security: Holy shit someone actually got paid to design the multi-level path to get to and through security. Eventually the path ends and its just one mass of a queue. My connecting flight BA 269 was at 3:15 pm, while in line the frantic BA folks were allowing people with earlier flights to cut in front of everyone. The line did not move and it felt like those in front were getting pushed further and further back. After finally getting through that initial section (where you scan you boarding pass), there is a series of zig zags you make your way through to actual "security" folks. There was massive queue and it was a slow grind. It took 1h 45mins after deplaning to get to the front where security was quick to remind folks about the liquid restrictions. They warned everyone it would take an extra hour for each person if they got flagged for further search. I decided to throw away any liquids I had (eye drops and toothpaste), so I was not flagged. If you do get flagged, they open up your bags and take samples of the liquid and test it on site. It is the most ridiculous process I've seen at an airport. The security folks are in no rush, I've read that their apathetic attitudes is due to low pay and being overworked. 3) Gate assignment: Once I made it through security I looked at the Departures screen, and saw the gate for my flight was C55 departing at 03:15pm. Keep in mind, I was deplaned at B gates, had to take a tram to A gates, and know had to rush to C gates (C55) to make my connection. I figured I would take the tram from A gates to C gates. I rushed over to the tram section and a tram had just arrived. The tram offloaded passengers it immediately shutdown. After about a minute, a message was displayed telling people to wait as the tram was going through a "security check". It is around 2:30 at this point. At least 15 minutes pass and the tram is still shutdown going through a "security check". At this point the tram platform is filled with frantic passengers trying to catch this connections at B and C gates. At that point, the other tram arrived on the other side which I thought I would be able to use. Guess what happened? The second tram also shutdown and displayed a message that it was going through a "security check" as well. Unreal! At this point it is already 2:50pm and I have a flight leaving at 3:15pm. Eventually some airport staff show up and tell everyone they are investigating and it would take another maybe 15 minutes to get the trams going again. At that point, the mass of frantic people decided to walk/run to their to B gates (10 min walk) and C gates (20 mins walk) in order to catch their flights. After running for about 10-15 minutes I eventually arrived at gate C55 drenched with sweat dripping all over the place. I was met with an announcement that my flight was delayed by 30 mins. I was stressed but slightly relieved as it gave me time to wash my face and cool down before boarding. 4) C Gates: I understand that the big birds (A380/777) need to have specialized gates but holy shit there are no food options at C gates. There was only a Starbucks and a convenience store for snacks. You'd think with the shear amount of people that fly out of C gates there would be actual food options but nope you are SOL. What an opportunity lost my management. I eventually boarded the plane and the pilot did apologize for the delay, he blamed the catering crew for being late to stock the plane with food/drinks for the flight. There are numerous factors of why the flight experience is abysmal at LHR mainly: * lack of ground crew * unmotivated, underpaid, overworked security staff * Security bureaucracy I can now understand why flights are always delays leaving LHR which in turn affected other inbound/outbound flights at other airports. The only reason I choose BA with a connection at LHR was to ride on the mighty A380. Do yourself a favor and skip this airport, you will be glad you did. read more

Overall, I love Heathrow. Shopping (5 Stars): First and foremost, I love their shops. Particularly, Terminal 5, the British Airways main terminal, is like a fancy shopping mall. Heathrow Express (5 Stars): Heathrow Express connects the airport with London (Paddington Station) in 15 minutes. Interterminal transportation (2 Stars): It's a huge airport. The terminals are connected by buses. First of all, it's just not an effect way of connecting terminals. Also, it's cold when you have to take a bus when it's raining (which happens a lot in London). Security: I wouldn't necessary say it's bad, but there's something you want to keep in mind. Even when you only connect to a different flight at Heathrow, you have to go through security. So, if you buy any liquid (e.g., alcohol, perfume) at the original airport, make sure to have them sealed in the special bag when you purchase them. You need to have a long layover if you have change planes in Heathrow. I did, about 5 hours between flights, so I was relaxed, but tired. If you have a short connection, maybe it's best for you to see other options. You'll have to change terminals, for sure. The flights to and from US are in another terminal than the ones for Europe. There are many and long escalators. Sure, it's fun to look at the photos, history of the place, pop culture facts. You also have to wait and get inside a bus for transfers. That's an adventure, better sit down and hold tight! Then, again, more elevators, escalators and so on. Getting fast somewhere isn't an option. There are people who work for the airport here and there who try to help you, sometimes it's good to double check something for peace of mind. What I don't like about Heathrow is that you don't get your gate number till last minute, before boarding starts. Instead of waiting at your gate ahead of time, relaxed, you wait in a big, noisy, holding area and keep checking the monitors, then, you start rushing to your gate (luckily ours weren't so far), it can get stressful. After hours of waiting around. The seats aren't that comfy, it's a noisy airport, hard to relax in or take a nap. It's like a huge mall, full of luxury stores, bit cheesy and blingy. We checked some out since we had time to kill. The food options aren't great either, some places are pricey and food not that great. They need more middle tier places. There some convenience stores, that can save you for a quick snack and drink, the selection is decent, service not that great. There are nice bookstore full of great editions of high quality literature. Bathrooms are better in some terminals than others, but they are fine overall. Heathrow isn't as poetic as in "Love Actually", it's huge, so be prepared! read more

Extra long walk, down escalators, up escalators, shuttle, up/down, start over again. It's an extremely large airport, and borderline an engineering marvel. However, with its large size, it has faults which prevent a good experience. Generally, I like it. It has high-end shops and plenty of restaurants, plenty to do while in-between or waiting for your flights. Process issues / design flaws: ======================== 1. Disconnected terminals. Requires you to walk, go thru multiple levels of security checks and long lines and 10 min shuttle buses -- the entire process can suck over an hour for connecting flights. Not good, the process is not modern at all. Plus, US TSA Pre-check means nothing here. 2. The nice electronic flight status often does not have the boarding gate until 50-60 mins before your flight. Once posted, my gf and I had to scurry and transit over to another set of gates. read more

I was waiting for my sister at the arrivals hall and as she came out, I shouted loudly "Hi Sis". Well I've never seen armed police appear so quickly. Then There's this one security guard who really doesn't like me. Every time I try to get past security Heathrows me out. This is actually a very hassle free airport most of the time, which is surprising given the size and volume of passengers and flights. It's never really too crowded. Bit of a mystery. How can a place that transports people on sophisticated pieces of machinery not be able to produce or acquire frozen water??? The last time I traversed through London Heathrow Airport (LHR), was before the upgrades to the airport. London was known as the pit of international airports, where security staff were deemed as gestapo agents processing "foreigners" (underline processing). It was also a dump of an airport, grimy, grey, the passports and security processing area was so packed that you can feel agoraphobic during security processing. I've always avoided LHR but I couldn't avoid it this time because my well priced air ticket routed me through London. I got off the plane mentally prepared from my last experience, literally rushing so I could be "first" in line through passport control. When the aircraft doors opened, Lo and Behold, the airport was remodeled, crisp, clean, white, shiny, signage clear with airport agents everrywwhere directing traffic and providing assistance, smiling, helpful and courteous. Totally different from my last visit, a very nice surprise! LOADED WITH SHOPS/FOOD: And that's a really good thing for shopaholics. There are 5 duty-free shops per passenger and they are laid out like the mall concept in America (to get to passport control you must go through 5,000 perfumeries, designer shops, liquor and cigs and then another 1500 of the same on the second floor). They are really nice shops but not good buys b/c everything there can be had in America for much cheaper prices. Duty free does not equate to savings.......you're paying in British pounds. Food? Super available which is great. There are modernized British options, gluten free, organic if you want, so that's good for the passenger. BEWARE, you can blow money here very quickly like I've seen many passengers do. The last thing I wanna nitpick is at the United gates, there is one laptop/cellphone charging island per gate and no American power outlets. Hello United you are processing a majority of American passengers everyday with American laptop power plugs; can you at least install American plugs in half of the power outlets??? Doingggggg! Finally, 50 passengers from London to SFO were lining up to plug in their Euro adapters and power plugs for 8 outlets. Hilarious. Tip: When paying at any of the stores, be reminded you're in jolly ole' England, don't haul out your Euros, they smirk at ya. They're not polite there but that's ok, doesn't bother me because I'm there on a stopover-- I didn't think to haul out my British pounds when I don't have any!! Staff here are very friendly and will gladly assist you with your questions. I have come through here many times and although it's a gorgeous airport it's definitely busy and can be overwhelming. We came here twice for transferring flights. On our way to Italy, security was really rough. Having already been on a long flight and then standing in the long security line, we were quite exhausted. So was everyone around us. -1 star for the disorganization of the security, while going to Italy. However, on our way back home, security was much more organized and quick. I appreciate that this airport has plenty of clean restrooms, restaurants, and souvenir shops. Employees around the airport are friendly. The airport is clean and spacious. read more

I've heard many great things about Heathrow but until stepping foot into the airport, I finally understood what everyone was talking about. It's huge, clean, and has just about anything you'd want in an airport. For once, I actually wished my flight was delayed so I could have more time to explore. First, there's plenty of food options for you to choose from before or after your flight. From sit down restaurants to grab and go stalls, you're set. For the sit down restaurants, they even have a box on the top of the menu stating that if you are in a rush, they will hurry your order and bring your check directly to you, once you order. Shopping wise, I was only able to hit a few gift shops, but as others have stated, it's far better than any of the airports where I'm from like LAX. Sure, Heathrow attracts a lot of people but it doesn't feel like I'm packed in like a sardine. I've been to Gatwick Airports as well (Which I also like) but Heathrow is very close to the city. I landed at this airport but I didn't leave from here. I initially was fearful about being hounded by customs because some people I know didn't have the best experience here. It was a really fast and straightforward process! This airport is getting a fantastic 5 stars from me because it is well kept, clean, fast, and has SLOT MACHINES. But please keep in mind that my home airport is LAX, so basically anything at least slightly more decent than that is probably 5 stars in my opinion. read more

The shopping are and restaurants are nice, which is about the beat I can say for this airport. Food options were somewhat limited however. Getting into the airport can be confusing with some of the roundabouts. If you exit the wrong one plan to be taken 15 minutes out of the way before you can turn around and get back to where you were. Expect their passenger security process to be very thorough - all liquids in a plastic bag, removed from your luggage. All laptops and tablets removed from luggage. About half the bags I saw go through the scanner get a manual search by someone. It didn't take long, but more of a hassle than in the U.S. Some of the walkways between gates seem to be cheaply made and aren't nicely finished; more like a construction zone. And clearly immigration upon arrival is a nightmare. Expect to be treated like cattle in a really long line for 30 minutes in to an hour. They really need to explore options to expedite this process, which is totally self-service / computerized. You won't even talk to an immigration official. read more

This is the WORST airport I have EVER traveled through and I have been around the world. What a NIGHTMARE. It is impossible to get to because they have a super narrow tunnel that created a bottleneck for traffic and which is pretty much symbolic of the rest of the airport experience. They should be ASHAMED of themselves. Everything is impossible to navigate. Terminal 5 is hell on earth. The stairs are bottlenecks and don't get me started on security. It is the WORST security I have EVER been through. They tell you no liquids and then make you take out of your backpack all of your SOLID lipstick, extra makeup, like mascara, deodorant, teenie tiny purell, and all sorts of things that make no freaking sense and put them all in a tiny plastic bag that you carry in your hands. Then security touches your WHOLE freaking body and scans you a billion times when you have NOTHING. They also tell you to stuff your jacket in your backpack no matter what even if it breaks the bag. It feels like security are sadistic and bothersome on purpose which I have never felt at any other airport. The airport itself is a bottleneck of people while the sides have HUGE useless stores. Guess money is the priority. Okay, so the WORST thing is that they don't tell you what your gate is until TEN minutes before boarding. They are Insane. Seriously one crappy thing after another. What a disaster. Dearth of restaurants to eat in. I would give this airport negative 10 stars. Ezeiza in Buenos Aires was better. Atlanta is better. Chicago is better. Miami of all places is better. The line for taxi was massive but moved quickly. Upon arrival I took a taxi to a terminal 5 Hotel Renaissance for £17. After that I decided to take public. I took public transport the #423 a few feet from the hotel. Hop on and hop off at terminal 2,3,4 or 5. Allow extra time as it stops for other people. This is FREE! UBER when I checked my app would have been 2 minutes and $11-15 for the same trip. Heathrow itself at terminal 5 is easy to navigate BUT do not put more than your required liquids in your bag including makeup. You will be asked to pick your fave and throw out the rest. Plus the bag search will add another 20 minutes at security. There are loads of shops but all high end except for the souvenir shops. Dior, Prada, Tiffany, Harrods, Hermes, Chanel to name a few but still very impressive. The noodle restaurant was amazing! B gates require a train ride from the main departure terminal and it is not well advertised. I was caught off guard but thankfully did not miss my flight. Safe travels. read more

This airport is massive and you really need to make sure you have ample time to catch connecting flights. I have flown through Heathrow a couple of times and there are always a couple of things that you can expect: 1. Rush through a maze of gates, buses, terminals and transfers to catch your connecting flight. 2. Taxiing will always take 20+ after you land before you arrive at your gate. This just happens to be one of the most difficult airports to navigate though in the world. Despite the navigational deficiencies, this airport does have a ton of restaurants and shopping options if that's your thing... This was my first time here and I was impressed... to some degree. Arrival: as a designer, their iconography for "EXIT" and "EMERGENCY EXIT" looked quite similar and were literally right next to each other. As a foreigner... sis and I both got confused at the sign... were we really exiting or were we headed to the emergency exit? I told the sis to just follow the crowd... that can't be too hard right? The airport itself is huge... their restroom / bathroom is weird in location: it's downstairs. It was clean ... tiny but clean. The customs... they were nice... at least to me... in and out. Departure: hate to brag a little but we managed to go through Virgin Atlantic's PRIVATE gate departure for UPPER class folks. Sis had to call them to tell them the plate / registration number of the car that we're arriving by and they have a separate gate for them. Anyway... since we came through there... the check-in and the security were seamless. In short... it was HEAVEN. We didn't get to really shop around since we got stuck / glued to the chocolate section of Duty Free... but we saw the branded stores and knew they existed. read more

Great airport with very easy transport into the city. Lots of shopping and eating opportunities too. Luggage (at least for Continental arriving at Terminal 4) was very quick, with my bags already on the carousel when I arrived. Immigration was way understaffed, with only three officers working when two big American jets arrived at the same time. This is why it's a good idea to sit towards the front of the plane! It was looking like some of these folks could be waiting an hour for their passport stamp. It's Heathrow, so if you're flying into London, you don't really have much choice. Gatwick's okay, but it's not on the Underground. read more
