I had mid morning plans in SF and decided to check out a new (to me) coffee shop in the city, so I came to Kope. Luckily, I got to try two different drinks: the passionfruit latte and the house latte. Both were absolutely delicious! I like that I could actually taste the passionfruit in the former, and it wasn't too sweet! I really like the house latte too, which wasn't overly sweet either, despite the caramel. Also, the service was lovely and they were happy to explain the different drinks and make suggestions. Also, they moved quickly, despite there being a line at times. read more

Have been thinking about this coffee since I got it. Went on a Saturday morning recently and there was a line but it moved surprisingly fast and the coffee was well worth the wait. Super small counter serving up some unique and flavorful coffees. My passion fruit cappuccino was unlike anything I have tried before. There's a special kind of masochism in standing in a line at a coffee shop at 8 a.m., watching people you don't know clutch their phones like life rafts, all of you silently agreeing to wait for a beverage. This is Kopê House. This is also, apparently, a revolution. The place didn't just show up one day with a lease and a dream. No, they did their time, pop-ups, guerrilla coffee ops, the caffeine equivalent of a band playing basements before anyone their own spot. By the time they got their own address, they'd already built an army. You don't get a line like this by accident. You get it by making people addicts of their product first and customers second. The thing you have to order, the thing they are most known for is their house latte, which is made with gochujang and caramel. Sweet and spicy in a cup, which sounds like a dare and tastes like somebody in that cafe actually knows what they're doing. It shouldn't work. Chili paste has no business anywhere near your morning espresso. And yet here we are, all of us, converts. One of the owners said in an interview, with the kind of conviction usually reserved for people overthrowing government, that they're "taking the green back from Starbucks." Bold claim. Green being, presumably, the color, the money, the soul of coffee itself, take your pick. I respect the audacity. Most people just want to sell you a latte. These people want to start something. So yeah, the line is annoying. Stand in it anyway, it moves fast. read more

Visited on a Thursday afternoon around 3:30pm right before closing - there was no line and service was very quick! I ordered the house latte iced, and my sister ordered the short and sweet. I was so surprised by the flavor of the gochujang caramel syrup in the house latte - it was so unique and had a nice kick! Short and sweet was very strong and a good afternoon pick me up. I really liked that their drinks weren't milky and you could really taste the coffee and the notes of each drink! Will definitely be back and can't wait to try the other items! read more

Super cute, hole-in-the-wall coffee shop with a solid coffee menu. The guys running the place are really friendly and chill, loved the vibe overall. Drinks were reasonably priced and came out in a few minutes. We tried the house latte and it was delicious. Espresso was good, foam was nice and silky, and the gochujang caramel was the right amount of spice to spruce things up. There are a few tables and benches on the sidewalk if you want to sit down and enjoy your drink. Will definitely be back to try more! read more

This place is amazing! You can tell they care a lot about their drinks just by looking at the menu - it's small but specialized. We stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon and the wait was pretty short, with only 4ish people/parties ahead of us. It's a small cafe so the line is outside the actual place. We shared a short and sweet, and it was sooo good! You can definitely taste the cherry and red bean in there and it was so refreshing on a sunny day. It was little small so we could've gotten one order each, but we wanted to share since it was mid day and we didn't want to be too hyped on caffeine. The drink came out very fast, so overall wait time wasn't bad at all. I would definitely come back here next time I'm in the area! read more

I was eager to try out one of SF's newer coffee shops since I've been hearing a lot of excitement around Kopê House. Sure enough, there was a line down the block when I arrived on a Sunday morning. Part of this was due to the fact that the shop is more of a hole-in-the-wall, and the baristas make each customer's drink as they order it. The short menu probably serves to keep the line moving quickly as well, and I decided to try the one of the three espresso beverages, the House Latte with oat milk. The baristas were friendly yet efficient, and my latte was prepared in under five minutes. The beverage was very sweet, although the gochujang caramel added an element of intriguing heat + spice. When I'm looking to treat myself to a craft latte, I would definitely come back to try the other drink I was eyeing on the menu, the Short & Sweet with red bean and cherry blossom powder. read more

Updated review! Kope House finally opened up their own cafe location and I was able to visit just a couple of weeks into their new space. I loved their house latte with gochujang caramel when I first tried Kope House at a pop up so I knew I had to get that. My partner wanted to try the passionfruit chocolate cappuccino but unfortunately I think they accidently gave us a regular cappuccino. Loved my oat milk house latte which had a rich caramel sweetness and a bit of kick from the gochujang. It is on the sweeter side but I just love the spice and I wish it had even more of the gochujang flavor. The cappuccino was good as well but we'll need to come back for the passionfruit chocolate to try it out. It's a small space indoors but there are a few tables for 2 outside and we were lucky enough to beat the crowd on a Saturday morning, arriving around 9am. The line quickly grew once we ordered so I'd recommend coming early - especially as the hype is big with a new cafe opening up in SF nowadays. read more

The house latte here was incredible! I was originally hesitant on getting this because I wasn't sure if I would like gochujang with caramel, but the flavors actually work so well together! Highly recommend trying this one. I've also tried the passion fruit chocolate cappuccino, which was decent but not worth getting again. The house latte was just so much better. If you're visiting on the weekend, be prepared for a line. But service is pretty fast, so the wait's not that bad at all. read more

This cafe is great! It's a cute little spot with kind staff - I usually see the same two guys working it who are super enthusiastic and always explain the menu. Speaking of - it's very inventive. They have three signature drinks: The house latte with gochujang, short and sweet - an iced 6 oz drink, and chocolate passion fruit cappuccino. After trying them all my faves are the short and sweet and house latte, but I definitely recommend trying out their menu! They also have a small selection of pastries which from what I've tried have all been delicious so far. The wait time fluctuates - since it's a small spot there's usually only two staff prepping orders, but lately I haven't seen a line in my morning weekday visits. Glad I got to make it to Kopê House after the AIDS Walk with my former colleagues. I hardly got a free lunch knowing that I didn't belong to any different firm, but at least walking for at least an hour was a good way to burn plenty of calories. So, I had the chance to first visit Kopê House to get a cool refreshing drink after an epic long walk. Not too many people since its interior kiosk space was very small yet vibrant. The service at Kopê House was chill, and the price for every coffee and tea was fair. Finally open after a year of waiting! I got the sidecar coffee option (half espresso to try the coffee, and half latte in another cup). The espresso I received was well made, spicy, and well-rounded. The whole milk latte was creamy and delicious. The employees / owners were kind and enjoyed talking to them since there was no long line on this mid-day Wednesday. The space inside is only for ordering but they offer lots of outdoor seating. The streets outside are safe and quiet, perfect for a conversation or work. read more

Came here on a Sunday mid morning and the line was pretty long. The shop is very small coffee shop, just enough to order your drinks so it's definitely not a place to sit down and hang out. That said, Hayes valley is a great neighborhood to walk around with your coffee. I ordered the Short n' Sweet, which had a really unique combination of cherry and red bean flavors. I enjoyed it, although I thought the price was a bit high for the amount of coffee you get. I also wish it had been served over ice because it got a little warm by the end. We ordered the short and sweet as a matcha (red bean and cherry flavors). It was honestly SO yummy! unfortunately it was pretty expensive for a minimal amount of liquid, not even a full cup. We waited about 30 minutes in line but once you order, the drink is made asap. The staff were so kind and took time with customers which i appreciated. Still thinking about how good that matcha was but not sure I can justify 7 sips of matcha haha. The place is small and there are some tables outside. Great new addition to Hayes! The coffee is high quality, and I love the fun spins they have with their signature menu. I've tried all three, and my go-to is the passion fruit chocolate cappuccino. the house latte is one of the most innovative drinks i've had (and i drink a LOT of coffee)! the gochujang caramel delivers the perfect sweetness & kick at the end of each sip. barista recommends the drink hot to really taste the gochujang, but as an iced latte girl i had to try it iced as well -- and safe to say? approved! service is quick -- you order, they make your drink, you pay! take your drinks to outdoor seating & enjoy. they actually have a decent amount of seats & tables out for people to enjoy their bev. great pick me up! read more

I'm all for trying the next best coffee shop and I love that sf is always coming up with great small businesses, but this wasn't the best coffee i've had. it is still solid, don't get me wrong, but for the line it wasn't the best. i don't any of the 3 of us liked any of our drinks that much. for $7, you definitely want to love your drinks. the chocolate was pretty strong but bitter, like 75% cacao. house latte was definitely better and strong, its their house for a reason! matcha latte isn't whisked, but creamy. my friend did add extra sweetener though. the weather was great for sitting outside, but tables are limited. read more

Came here on a Friday noon at around 12 pm and the line was about 5-10mins. I got the house latte and asked for single shot of espresso instead of two and it tasted nicely. My friend and I got in line over the weekend to try Kopê House. The waiting area isn't the most comfortable, as it's in direct sunlight on the sidewalk with black asphalt. The menu is relatively small. I wanted to try a signature drink, but only two options out of three could be made completely dairy free. I asked the barista which they recommended, and the house latte was the winner. Grand opening day today for Kope House. We waited a long time for this day. Always enjoyed their pop ups through out the city the past three years. Tucked on the side in Hayes Valley on Laguna with their signature green Kope House green exterior. Simple line system outside the entrance with outside seatings - we loved the long bench seating. Tried their signature house latte, cortado, short and sweet, pour over and matcha! They were out of baked goods earlier this am we arrived close to noon but heard they were delicious! Went on their grand opening and I was blown away by the quality and creativity of their drinks. Kope House is a real hole in the wall, and has some seating outside. Obviously, as it was their opening the service was a bit swamped, but that's understandable. I had their house latte, which perfectly utilized gochujang to add a subtle heat to the drink. I also had their short and sweet drink, which was equally delicious, but more of a dessert drink. read more

We enjoyed the House Special Latte (double espresso, milk, house-made gochujang syrup), which had a nice light kick at the end of each sip without being overpowering, and the Carlito (piloncillo, tamarind, cilantro, tonic, lime, double espresso) was refreshing and tasty. Cool new coffee place finally opened up in Hayes Valley. Ive kept my eye in it ever since I noticed how cute their signage was outside. Ive been there a few times now including its opening. My partner and I have tried most of the drinks on their menu and they are all quite creative. Iced house latte- 10/10 an absolute favorite of mine and my partners. The combination may sound odd but you can taste the caramel and a hint of spice with each sip. Highly recommend! Passion fruit chocolate cappuccino- 6/10 it was definitely on the sweeter side. The chocolate was nice and rich and the slight tartness from the passion fruit was nice, just wasn't the right drink for me! Short n sweet- Served in a smaller cup and no dairy substitution so I didn't have this actually. My partner it and found it too sweet for her liking. The flavors itself and description sounded intriguing, but I won't rate this since I didn't try it myself. The 3 co-owners who own the place are very friendly, down to earth guys and its nice to have a quick chat with them as you wait for your coffee. One day I came in after a dental procedure where half my mouth was number and tried ordering a house latte. The part of my mouth that was numb didn't quite get the house part out. After making me a regular latte, I had come back and requested a house latte and asked if I could pay the difference since it was my fault they misheard. One of them was kind enough to not only remake the drink, but also didn't ask for payment, just for a return. It was very pleasant and though it was an embarrassing event, I felt that they resolved it without it being a fuss at all which I appreciate. I happened upon Kope House this past Saturday by chance, when I tried to go check out HI NRG - it seems HI NRG was on vacation, and Kope House was popping up in the meantime. They had a short menu available, and I decided to try their House Latte, which comes with double espresso and a house made gochujang caramel - this was delightful, not too sweet, and the nice warmth and spice that the gochujang brought is almost reminiscent of Mexican hot chocolate. I also tried my friend's Carlito, and really enjoyed how refreshing the drink was - the piloncillo, lime and tamarind brought a nice subtle sweet and sour tartness that complimented the espresso tonic really well, but the cilantro might have been too unique for our tastes - maybe if it was a sprig of cilantro for the fragrance instead of chopped cilantro leaves, it would've been more enjoyable? Mint or basil definitely would've worked nicely too - but that's just person preference. Getting to try Kope House was a pleasant surprise - I learned that Kope House is opening a cafe of their own in Hayes Valley next month so hope to check them out at their new cafe soon! read more
