Very weak bagel spot. Bagels are far below average for NYC. These bagels would maybe be decent in Florida. The service is as cold as a Siberian winter and they use hot dogs for their sausage, egg and cheese sandwiches. No one tells you they use hot dogs, you'll be lucky to get a friendly grunt out of them. A hot dog is very different from a breakfast sausage, they must know that, clearly they are not trying very hard here and trying to pass off the cheapest ingredients they can. My wife has visited this establishment before in her search for a good tofu cream cheese, which appareny they have. This morning I decided to take the half mile walk and get my wife what she likes. Upon my arrival an older gentleman gruffly asks me what I want. Before I can finish he turns to someone, barks an order for my bagel and starts talking to someone else. Ok, I say to myself, I guess someone else will finish taking my order. The bagel gets to the toppings lady and she asks me what I want, comments on my unique order and finishes the job. When I arrive home and my wife opens it, it is burnt on top and more completely burnt on the bottom, she is clearly dissappointed, as am I. There are three basic things we all require from the places where we spend our money, a basic level of respect, the most efficient service possible, and a quality product. Michael's seriously failed 2 out of 3 and efficient service is worthless if no one cares about the product so let's make that 3 out of 3. In the area, there are two places to get bagels-here and gotta getta bagel on continental ave. Having been to both, both are delicious and yummy and have their positives. I enjoy this bagel place because it is off the beaten path and is generally calmer and there's also never a line. Located on Ascan Ave and a bit off Austin Street, it is convenient to get to and may be worth the walk if you want a quieter place to go. There are a lot of different bagels and lots of choices of cream cheeses including tofu cream cheeses. The bagels are flavorful and have a great bite to them. The service is incredibly friendly and quick. The only drawback is that they don't make more bagels during the day so when they run out of a certain type of bagel, there aren't any more. However, I forget which day of the week it is or if its everyday-but after a certain hour, the bagels are a reduced price. read more

This place's bagels taste less tough and are easier to chew (even compared to bagels baked on the same day at other bagel shops). We moved here 6 months ago and have fallen in love with their bagels.
