The view is incredible. Such a fun spot. But it's hard to say anything nice about the food. It took over an hour to get our food, which sadly wasn't the worst part. The worst was finding an expiration sticker in the spinach artichoke dip. You would think that's a good sign that they're using fresh food, but the date was from 2 days prior. So not only was there a sticker in our food, it was evident we were being served expired spinach or artichokes. We noted it to the waitress who just laughed. No apology or acknowledgement. Excellent from start to finish. Making a reservation was easy, and it saved us a lot of time judging by the people waiting who did not have a reservation. We were seated immediately upon arrival, and had an excellent view of Lake Hefner. We tried many different dishes, and all were excellent! I absolutely loved my Vera Cruz Grouper- so much that I went back and ordered it again a week later. The toffee cake is a shareable size, and a great finale to a special meal. Why has it taken me this long to try this place!?!? The atmosphere, the views, the live music, the food...I enjoyed my entire experience at Hefner Grill. I ordered the Fish and Chips and it was great! Both the Fish and the fries were cooked perfectly with the perfect amount of crunch and the portion was more than enough for a meal plus some, definitely worth! We came for lunch on a rainy day. We loved sitting inside and looking out to the water. Just a beautiful view. We ordered a few things: lobster roll, salad with tuna and Paul's pasta. Tried again today for Father's Day. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. Crab dip appetizer took forever but was good except the chips were so hard I was afraid I'd break a tooth. Food took forever and was awful. Son didn't get syrup for pancakes and his biscuits were dry and the gravy was nonexistent. My Baltimore eggs and my husband's special steak Benedict were awful. Our poached eggs were hard boiled, crab cake had zero flavor, steak was cold. Just awful. It took us 1 hr and 45 minutes for lunch. We took the family out for my daughter's birthday and ordered three appetizers and they were all overcooked. The seafood was so rubbery. The fish entrees were better but the chef was heavy handed on the pepper on my husband's fish and his cod was overcooked as well. My salmon was cooked well and my daughter's mahi was also good. The desserts were amazing. We left very disappointed for our first time. We won't be back probably. Too many other nice restaurants in the metro to eat at with good food cooked right. We ordered drinks and then another party went to the patio. Our drinks came and we cashed out and went to the patio. Our server was super nice but that patio mix up was a slight annoyance. Granted it's Mother's Day', but I feel the staff should have been prepared. We waited for over an hour for reservation for 20. When we were finally seated drink ordered went smoothly. It took them a minute to get our food orders. Brunch plate was okay. The biscuits and gravy were the best part. I hated the eggs. Anywho appetizers didn't come before my food so I canceled it. Not sure if it was ever going to come. 5 ppl in our party got their food after everyone was done eating. My mom ended up canceling her order. (Which should've been given to her for having to wait such a long time) . It's ridiculous that as a party our food didn't come out together, or even within a few minutes of each other. Such a wonderful area. I really wanted to love the food but it ended up coming up a bit short on flavor. We ordered the oysters st. Charles and those were delicious. The mango drink was also great. I'd definitely order those again! However when our main course came out my New Orleans bayou shrimp really lacked in flavor and had hardly any kick which is something I was expecting. It was a bit dry as well and needed much more sauce. My boyfriend's grouper was over cooked. We were not blown away by the main dish but we did enjoy the oysters and the drinks. We went here as a family with a close friend visiting from out of town. She requested seafood, and we thought this would work. We were impressed with the quality of food, the level of service, and the view of the lake. We arrived without a reservation on a mid-May Wednesday night at 5:45 pm. By 6:15 pm, we were seated with a good view of the patio and the lake. Our server took care of us well, including two boisterous girls under the age of 8. To start things off, we ordered calamari (my wife's favorite) as an appetizer. It was clear from first bite that they batter their calamari in the kitchen themselves. That makes a big difference for most fried seafood. I was not expecting two different dipping sauces. One was a sweet and slightly zesty tomato sauce, while the other was like ranch dressing. The two sauces provided options to experiment with complementary flavors with each new piece of calamari that I ate. For my entree, I ordered the grouper vera cruz. The first few bites took me back to eating grouper at a dockside restaurant in Sarasota, Florida in 2013. I was reminded that I like grouper because it's in the middle between mild, tender fish like tilapia and firm, bold-tasting fish like tuna. The chef presented the grouper fillet as described on the menu, i.e. on a bed of rice with veggies and dressed with a buerre blanc. I could have done with about twice the number of veggies. In particular, some extra olives would have been nice so that I had some more saltiness to balance the richness of the butter sauce. However, it was delicious as presented. Sometimes restraint is better than excess. This remains a special occasion restaurant for us due to the price point, but it's at the top of the short list of the best seafood fine dining in OKC. read more

We dine at the Hefner Grill at least once a week, and 99% of the time, the experience is enjoyable. Not yesterday, the bartender, a huge black woman, didn't know what Scotch brands were available. Every time I asked for a particular Scotch, she had to go check whether it was available. At one point, I asked if the Dewar's was White Label. She said no, it's red label. It has a red label. There is no red label Dewar's. I asked if she had Chivas, and she said we used to have, but we don't anymore. I ordered a Glenlivet, and 5 minutes later, she came to the table and said, " We don't have Chivas." I reminded her I had ordered Glenlivet, and she said, "No, you ordered Chivas." I told her she was wasting time, just bring Glenlivet. The manager came over and said, "I'm sorry, but we don't have Chivas." Then he said the black woman had told him I had cursed at her, a blatant lie. Opinion: Don't go to the Hefner Grill after 2:00 pm on Sunday. read more

Table was so sticky I had to dip my napkin in my water and clean the table. They didn't have the bread for the lobster roll. Happens but I've never had this happen at a Hal Smith restaurant. No toilet paper in the mens room for my kiddo. Not trying to hurt the restaurant but our family will definitely go to other HS establishments over this one. Beautiful setting on Lake Hefner, ambiance was okay but the view can't be beat! Came on a weekend and had to wait a little for a table. Service was pretty good throughout. I saw that they had a lobster roll and it was New England style my favorite so I had to order it. A little while later a manager approached and informed us that they were out of lobster so I opted for the club sandwich which was a pretty standard club but very delicious! Then as the food should have been coming out the same manager appeared and told us my father's fish order didn't get put in and that it would be out in a few minutes. About 10 minutes it came out (she was apologetic and took it off the bill) I would definitely go back hopefully they will have lobster then! read more

Was there to celebrate birthday on Saturday afternoon 1:45p. The initial service was great but went downhill. Short story, one person sent her pasta and red beans and rice back as it was tasteless and ordered a club sandwich and pineapple upside down cake. The sandwich was brought out promptly but the cake wasn't brought until after she had finished her meal. The pineapple upside down cake was a joke! It took 30 minutes to come ti the table. It looked like a piece of cornbread with the pineapple in a separate container. Shouldn't it have been cooked together? Drinks were not promptly refilled and another person ordered a 2nd beer that took at least 15 minutes to arrive. The restaurant was not busy and only had 3-4 other tables. They said they would bring berries and cream for the birthday person and then charged her for it although they said it was complimentary. We won't be back any time soon. read more

Came here for a birthday brunch w some of my girlfriends. We sat outside on the patio. Our server was great and had a wonderful personality. If it gets too sunny they have umbrellas they can bring to your table. We ordered a mimosa carafe and I liked that it was pre mixed. It was good. I ordered the French toast breakfast. It was really good, I've never tried French toast on challah bread. I also added on some fried green tomatoes. Not many places have those on the menu so I can't pass them up anytime I see them. Oh, how I miss Hefner Grill! It was our favorite restaurant when we lived in the OKC area, and now we've moved 1,000 miles away and I'm going to have to learn to make Toffee Cake. I've never had anything like it! It's worth the trip to Hefner even if you're only craving dessert. For a full meal, our favorites were always Oysters on the half shell, Crab Cakes, Pecan Crusted Trout, and Ritz Crusted Cod. Followed by the Toffee Cake and maybe Key Lime Pie or whatever special dessert they had that day. Then, a nap. The food was excellent every single time, and we went there quite often. Service is always good, music is pleasant, and the view of Lake Hefner is just a plus from the cozy, plush booths. Chicken Ciabatta for the win! Not only is it a fun dish to yell out the name to, it's also delicious! Chicken, onion, bell peppers, cheese, and on a ciabatta roll is the absolute go to for a light ish lunch sandwich before you take off across the lake in your new catamaran as you practice for your race against your lame step brother Derek...I'm off topic. The ambiance is wonderful and we were even entertained by a pianist and upright bass player jamming some smooth Jazz. All in all, Hefner grill was a wonderful time and I will be returning. My wife says I don't a step brother named Derek and I get sea sick. read more
