I have been eating at the Hellenic for the last 25 years. it was one of the best eating establishments on the North Folk of Long Island, but the last two times the food was awful. The food was stale and tasteless. While the place was beautifully renovated, sadly it seems as the food became less of a priority and making the place look nice became the priority. Came here with friends on a summery Saturday afternoon for lunch since it had great reviews and had outdoor seating available. I ordered the Broiled Whole Local Fluke, which was delicious until I found a 6-inch long piece of hair in my fish, which was unpleasant. Service was also mediocre and unpleasant. Upon entering the restaurant, we asked the hostess if we could be seated outside (as we saw at least 3 tables available) and she seemed irked by our request even though it was not busy. Our waitress did not seem familiar with the items on the menu when we inquired about one of the entrees and soups. In addition, when we needed water refills, our waitress did not acknowledge it when stopping by at our table several times until my friend asked for a bottle of water (as we noticed other tables had bottles of water). Service: 2/5 Food: 3/5 As much as my entree was delicious, I was turned off by finding a piece of hair in my fish and the unpleasant service. I will not be coming back here. read more

Nice outdoor seating. The appetizers were amazing! We had the Saganaki, cauliflower croquettes, and tzatziki. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the moussaka and leg of lamb bekri. The moussaka meat lacked the traditional green taste of cinnamon and nutmeg, this coming from a Greek visitor. Also, the lamb of the Berki was not as soft as advertised. DElicious Greek restaurant!! Grilled octopus appetizer to die for. It was tender and seasoned perfectly.. felt like we were eating at a friend's house bc the food was all so authentic! No gimmicky dishes... they stay true to their roots and everything was very good! My husband had a lamb dish that he loved, i had a gyro (well bc when in Rome...), and our son had the purist burger that he said was really good. Best Greek food ever. We've been coming here for years and it's always consistently good. My husband loves the gyros and I love the chicken souvlaki . The skordalia is the best I've ever had . My best friend for the last 30 years is a Greek and his family runs a Greek restaurant. Because of him, I've frequented many establishments that are "Greek" in nature and have been able to gauge the quality & diversity of the food from one place to the next. Some of them do it very well, some of them do it poorly and need help. It is my opinion after visiting the Hellenic, that they are now at the top of my personal Greek restaurant ranking. First off, the location is not much to speak of, located off Rt 25 in the Greenport area (actual location is East Marion). There is no view here, but who cares, if you're here, you're not here for a view, you're hear to experience the culinary delights of Greece!! We arrived with a large group of 10 people, plenty of parking in the lot, and we were seating quickly. Our group also consisted of three 8yr old children and a 10yr old. There is also plenty of seating outside if the weather calls for it, but today, we sat inside. Service was on us quick......our waitress focused on getting the kids taken care of which is always a nice touch. Our drinks were ordered and came quick. We got some appetizers for the table that were delicious. The Pita With Tzatziki is a must. We tried the Skordalia which as also great. The kids wanted the Calamari and it was what you'd expect. No disappointments with the apps. I won't go into what my entire group got, but suffice it to say, it was a variety of items, some classic greek stuff and some regular diner stuff like burger. I opted for the Greek Salad with the Gyro meat. Oh my goodness, that was one delicious salad. I had enough Gyro meat and pita bread to make my own gyro and still be able to share my meal. The service was outstanding, the food was delicious, and the only real upsetting part of this whole thing is that I have to wait another year for us to go on vacation in the North Fork, or make the hour and a half trek out from Smithtown to enjoy this spot. It's funny how you can never predict which restaurants are really allergy friendly--and Hellenic is the one of the best I've eaten at. I'm gluten free (in addition to a few other things) and Hellenic is one of the easiest places for me to order. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and they have the BEST gluten free pita bread!! They've never messed up my order and are always very careful to check and confirm what I can eat. My favorites are the Greek salad and the saganaki on gluten free pita. And don't forget to try the lemonade! My family also loves the taramasalata, tzaziki, hummus, chicken skewers, and horiatiki salad. Also easy to eat outdoors and feel safe during COVID. If you're gluten free, you 100% have to try. If you're not, you also have to go ! :) read more

Update review: Hello George, we were not with a tour bus, my friend and I came in in a group of 11, and we ordered 10 entrees to share. I assume with a restaurant your size you can definitely handle something that size! Just because I'm Chinese doesn't mean I was part of the tour group that you were talking about. We asked about the food, and they said they will check on it for us. And never returned. We were seated and ordered. Waited more than 45 minutes for our food to come. The table next to us came after us, finished their food and left, we are still just sitting around waiting for our food. read more

A group of us + a small puppy came to Hellenic for lunch since we were around the area. We weren't familiar with the area so we of course, yelped for a place to eat. Hellenic was highly rated and very close to where we were so we decided to come here. Pros: - They have a big parking lot. Having a big parking lot is always a pro because finding parking where I'm from is generally hard. -There is a nice patio where you can enjoy your meal outside. -Servers are friendly, for the most part. - Their appetizers are pretty good. We had the fried calamari and the choice of choosing three sampler sized appetizers. We had the hummus, the spinach pie, and I forget the name but it was cheese with tomato on a pita. The apps were all fairly good. The fried calamari was great and the dip on the side was delicious. Cons: - I'm not Greek, but I've had my fair share of Greek/Mediterranean food. I've had much better Greek food before. I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki with Yellow Rice. I usually do order the Chicken Souvlaki at other places since it's my go-to kind of thing. This dish was 80% tomatoes and onions, 20% Chicken. Yes- a total of 7 pieces of Chicken Souvlaki with a ton of tomatoes and onions which cost $17.95. I don't think this was worth the $17.95. The Chicken was dry, the Tzatziki sauce was not as flavorful so I ended up just eating the chicken with tomatoes and onions. The yellow rice was ok. Nothing spectacular, nothing special. -My friends' orders had fries- steak cut fries, sweet potato fries, etc. I tried the steak cut fries which were good, but very salty. The sweet potato fries were so disappointing. It was not "fried" fries, it was I have no idea what it was to be honest. It was not crunchy at ALL, and just tasted soft and soggy. - The entrees here are on the expensive side and I've had better for less. - We brought our puppy with us, and we get it- no dogs allowed on the patio. We were told by the host when we first walked in. We were seated outside and we had our puppy on a lap for 1 minute to have the hostess come and tell us again that the puppy can't be on the patio. We ended up tying the leash on a table which we brought closer to us and somewhere we can find a shade since it was close to 90 degrees today. Overall, I don't think that I would come back. I've had better and more flavorful Greek food at a more reasonable price. read more

We visited your store yesterday (not a tour bus), 7/2/2017 so you can check your computer systems for that. We did ask a waitress about our food and their response was verbatim "hold on let me check on your order", then continued working on another table. Never did we hear from her again. I wasn't aware that I am only limited to writing on one platform; I'm sure if this was a 5 star review, you wouldn't mind me writing on multiple platforms now would you? Previous Review: Waited over an hour for our food. I understand it takes time to prep the food, but seeing as there were only half the tables filled, you'd think their service would be faster. I grew up on the North fork of Long Island, and whenever I visit, a meal at Hellenic is a must do event. When I was a kid, I didn't have much reference. Now, every time I try a different Greek restaurant, I compare it to Hellenic. Simply put, Ive never had an even closely comparable meal then what Hellenic has to offer. I would not recommend Hellenic. We ordered a Greek Salad with Chicken, hold the tomatoes and anchovies. It did not have any cucumbers. It was a salad of just iceberg lettuce and some olives. A Greek salad should be much more substantial. I got a swordfish sandwich with a side of veggies. The swordfish was fine but the veggies were a sad puny portion of mushy excuse for a side I've seen in years. The cost for these 2 were $40. I know where this place is located to expect a surcharge for being out east but you gotta deliver the goods. And these two were bad. read more

How should I start... everything about this place is mindblowing. Each course was amazing, and served with care. The spanikopita was flakey and delicious, the teramasalata was divine. The salads were perfectly proportioned, and the Calamari was delicious. The great selection of local wines complimented the food perfectly and the ambiance was on point. Twice in a row we came here and they messed up the order ( one persons meal on two occasions came out 20-30 minutes after everyone else's) and they did nothing to make up for it. I brought up this most recent time they should comp the meal and the manager gave an excuse that their fryer broke, but then conceded they would comp the meal. Way to make us feel bad about it after an already horrible experience!! Couldn't you have offered our drinks be comped?! The restaurant clearly doesn't understand how to win customers. On top of that service was slow and we had to continuously remind them of things. We will NEVER go back and suggest others don't as well! read more

What a great find on the North Fork. We have been coming out for years and for some reason never ate here until breakfast/brunch yesterday. That was a mistake as this place is awesome. We had such a terrific meal. The food was absolutely great and the service was good too. There were six of us, so we had a chance to sample a number of their breakfast choices. The omelettes were really good, their breakfast hash was excellent, their take on your basic "breakfast sandwich" was nothing close to basic (it was something I will order again and again), but among some really good food the french toast was the "table's choice" and not to be missed. In addition, the service was spot on by a really friendly and welcoming staff. Finally, while not cheap (what is on this area...lol) it was a great value as the portions are huge and as I mentioned the food was really good. After a few mediocre "breakfasts out" in a row, this was a refreshing surprise. We can't wait to come back here and try their dinner menu. Wow. They have great food. When we went It was very busy, but our food came out in a timely manor. Our table shared some of their amazing appetizers. My son had the Pastitsio, which is a family favorite, he said It was *almost* as good as mine, so that is some high praise if I may say so myself! The saganaki was a hit, my mother in law had a huge platter of shrimp saganaki and It was INCREDIBLE. I had pork souvlaki and the pork was perfectly grilled. I don't love their Avgolemono, but I feel like It was just personal preference. There are some adorable fire pits outside that were packed but next time we go we would love to have drinks by them. read more

It's a glorified diner. The prices are on the expensive side. It has a couple of Greek food items on the menu to cater to their large Greek clientele from Queens. I ordered the gyro sandwich deluxe and it arrived with soggy wet tomatoes and onions. When I picked it up to take a bite, a stream of of water drained out the bottom of the sandwich from the soggy tomatoes. The waitress had the nerve to tell us that was normal. C'mon how difficult is it to mess up a gyro sandwich. You can tell by looking into the kitchen thru the counter that they buy the frozen gyro meat instead of making it home made. Their "famous" house lemonade is nothing special. Mine was watered down with no taste. It must have been sitting in the pitcher of ice for a while and when the waitress poured it out, I got all watered down portion. My other guests ordered a cheeseburger and grilled cheese.
