Don't get the drops they tell you to get for 35.00 for 3 ml. get the prescription and pay the co pay because the drops don't come out of the small hard plastic dispenser, Several patients and I complained but we were not given replacements or credit. I had to buy 3 bottles and it came to 105 dollars. My co-pay wasn't going to be near that. We were told a new design was coming but we never saw it. Do not get your glasses after surgery from the optometry department, I was entitled to a pair but was told I wasn't. I purchased a pair for 210.00. The glasses were broken and not fitted. When I got them home my friend told me she didn't have to pay for them and she had same insurance as me. I called my insurance and was told I was entitled to a pair for up to 270.00. I called office and told them I wanted a refund. They told me that they could try to bill insurance but didn't think I would get reimbursed for 6 weeks. they didn't want to bill or reimburse me for the glasses. They kept telling me they would call me back .Finally, after a week I went in and still was stalled for 20 more minutes. How many patients didn't get the benefits they are entitled to and also overpay for the eye drops? read more

Years ago I had an old cataract lens removed and replaced as my dog was happy to see me and raised her head and conked me in the eye. This unfortunate display of love and happiness from my beloved dog dislodged my old lens. Dr. Helm assured me he was the right doctor to remove the old lens and put in a new lens. I had the surgery and it was the most miserable experience of my life. The surgery was done at Henry Mayo's outpatient surgery. They wrapped me up like a mummy. Not a single inch of skin was exposed. He told me the surgery would last not over 15 minutes. Wide awake I suffered and was patient . After an hour I was hysterical. I thought I was having a heart attack. I screamed Help and he got angry at me and told me to be quiet or he was going to stop and walk out of the room. I stopped and finally he was done. My eye was black and blue for days. I was left with pain in my eye so bad I went to my old doctor in Beverly Hills. He said the doctor had put in the wrong lens and had attached them incorrectly. There was nothing he could do for me except another surgery. He had the hope that the pain would finally subside. Now that years has past, I am as blind as a bat in that eye. My eye is still sensitive. I just have to live with this man's work. Thanks a lot, Dr. Helm. Be aware. His rating should be a zero. read more

With many employees saying hello and asking us if we needed help while looking for eyeglass frames. The vision exam (Guan OD) was efficient, professional with a clear customer service focus. We are impressed with this Vision center from the scheduling process, appt reminders (they text you regarding your appt time and date), the vision exam to our eyeglass selection - everything was wonderful. I was thoroughly disappointed with both the professionalism and the manner in which I was treated by Dr. Gross at Helm Vision Group. My condition was misdiagnosed and as a result I was left with a severe infection in my eye. I had to go to another specialist all the way out in the Antelope Valley just to get proper medication. I would not recommend this office to anyone, ever. Why not?: I was referred to Helm Vision Group by my regular optometrist because I had an eye infection and needed oral medication which she could not prescribe. It was a second flare up of an infection I had had roughly 2 years before. I gave Dr. Gross all of the history and informed him that I was sent to him because I needed oral medication. He did not prescribe it and instead recommended that I wean off the eye drops that I was taking because the infection was gone. I paid (a lot) for the same test my optometrist had done about 45 minutes earlier and scheduled a follow up because He said it was necessary. The day after my scheduled appointment my eye felt like it was going to fall out of my head and I called for a check up. Dr. Gross prescribed another "new" and very expensive drop because NOW he could see the infection. I got the drops because I was already in pretty deep, I might as well ride it out so I could be pain free. A week later I was still seriously hurting and called Dr. Gross, his office wanted me to come in and pay for another (number 3) office visit to investigate my eye. At this point I returned to my optometrist and requested a different referral, she was appalled that Helm Vision Group had never prescribed oral medication. She sent me to a REAL specialist in Lancaster who prescribed me the anti viral I should have had 2 weeks before and within a day and a half I was finally pain free and the infection was on its way out. Dr. Gross and Helm Vision Group grossly misdiagnosed my condition and their judgement left me with eye pain and a bad infection for weeks longer than necessary. Helm Vision Group charges and wrongly prescribed medications total cost: $400 (would probably still be going up from other follow ups also) Cost to do it right the first visit with a real doctor and correct medication: $135 (problem solved includes follow ups) read more

I did not have a good experience at Helm Vision Group. It was my first time with eye dilation and they did not inform me of the side effects nor did they give me a pair of temporary sun glasses. My trip home was dangerous and horrible. Since this experience I have spoken to several people including a Nurse Practitioner, a Surgeon, and an employee at another Ophthalmologist office and they all say that it is inexcusable to not explain the effects of dilation and the importance of dark sunglasses to a patient. I found myself having an appointment at this facility about a year ago. I left there so angry. I had called the eye doctor that I usually go to and got an appointment. I was told that he had moved and that was no problem for me. I did see my doctor but it was about a two minute visit during which he told me that he had SOLD his practice and was now working for this Dr. Helm. Well I was charged as a NEW PATIENT. Over $300.00!! I was with MY doctor that I had been to so many times. I was in his presence about 5 minutes max. Then after the fact, I was made to pay what they assumed my insurance wouldn't pay. They even had this unfriendly sign staring at me on their counter. Santa Clarita Signal newspaper even had them "voted" as most popular OPTHAMOLOGY in Santa Clarita. Ok so. I requested the ambulatory surgery center that I knew my insurance would pay for.. I also requested a specific anesthesiologists who is a friend of my husband's and mine. Neither request he (Dr.Helm) listen to. Then at his surgery center they taped my ear ring in the cartilage of my ear and my nose ring. The tape came off my nose cuz i was getting anxious and hot because I didn't know who was doing the anisthesia so i asked them to just put tape on it when i get a little sedated....well, they took it out instead. It hasn't been out in years. So i had difficulty getting it back in. His staff scoffed when I asked if my husband could come in prior to me going under "moderate" sedation. What really was just concious sedation. I heard everything being said. Some one held my left arm down tight and my right arm was in a restraint....a restraint? Really...if it wasn't for the fact that I'm fresh post op. I would never return to this place again. I truely believe that s#*t roll down hill. Well congrats Dr. Helm, you have the worst customer service ever. How dare you take my money and treat me like cap. If it's getting old for you...retire. stop taking it out on your patients. read more

I am 75-years old, female, and a 15-year patient of Dr. Craig J. Helm's and a big, big, fan. I wanted to share my wonderful experience with his practice for others to review and know. Initially, I started with simple office visits for routine eye exams, visits for glasses, etc. Over the years, my medical eye needs included cataract surgery, severe dry eye problems, and most recently a case of sagging eyelids that was affecting my vision, which required the "Bilateral upper lid blepharoplasty" procedure. The whole process for this particular surgery, from beginning to end, was managed by the Helm medical team with the utmost etiquette and in an absolute first class manner. His outstanding administrative and nursing staff made everything extremely simple and, most importantly, uneventful for me as a patient. I am very disappointed with the service I received from Helm Vision Group. I placed an order for my contact lenses four days after my prescription expired as I got too busy to place it on time (they expire every year). They rejected my order because it had expired. I asked the Dr. If he can extend the prescription by a few days as I get a headache when I just use my glasses. This would have given me enough time to order a two-week supply until my next appointment. He refused. I decided not to use their service anymore and use another place where they treat you with more respect and kindness. Unfortunately, all of my family will stop going here. Helm Vision Group was great from start to finish. They were able to promptly fit me into the schedule for a free lasik consultation. The office staff was polite and professional. The office is beautiful with state of the art modern equipment. I never had to wait long. Dr. Guam did a great job of answering all my questions and calming my fears about the procedure. No one ever made me feel pressured to schedule the procedure after my free consultation. Erica, the surgery scheduler for Dr. Helm, was amazingly helpful in finding the right payment plan for me and gave me preop and postoperative instructions. The actual lasik procedure was a piece of cake and Dr. Helm and the staff were comforting and made it fun. Their laser machine is the latest and greatest in technology and he talks you through the procedure. My mom and fiancé got to watch it from a window in the next room! The next day I went in for first postoperative eye exam and my vision was already almost perfect! Erica also checked in to see how I was doing. Over the weekend I ran into a problem with my eye drops and I emailed erica not thinking I would get a response but she responded within 30min! I went to Jules Stein 6 times, I got a description of my symptoms,but I did not get the name of the illness causing them.To get a second opinion,my regular doctor recommended Dr.Helm.Jules Stein said I didn't have an eye infection,despite chronic discharge,and said sleep apnea might be the cause.My PCP said eye discharge normally caused by virus or bacteria.One appointment with Dr. Helm solved the mystery,Floppy Eyelid Syndrome.While Jules Stein was correct,no infection,symptoms caused by sleep apnea, why in 6 appointments they couldn't give me the name of the illness baffles me.If you live in or near Santa Clarita,I think he's the guy to go to,and skip Jules Stein. read more

One of the most messed up experiences I've had at a doctors office. Attendant was kind and thorough, doctor was mediocre. But other than that this was a very frustrating experience. You get yelled at if you even try to bring water into their waiting room, and made to stand in the doorway or hall if you need to drink any liquids. Additionally I've spent 3 weeks, and collectively over an hour on hold, trying to get some photos from my visit emailed to me, and when they finally were sent they were the wrong images. They either lost or deleted the images I asked to have sent to me the day of my appointment. I repeat they LOST private medical images of which were the entire reason I made the appointment. They claim that these are the only photos taken at that visit, but I know with 100% certainty the images I viewed with the tech who took them are different than the ones sent to me. If you read some of the other low reviews you'll learn this isn't the first time they've lost patient documents. No apologies offered for this screw up, and the office staff was repeatedly rude and snarky. Both during and after my visit. I'll be warning everyone in my community to steer clear of this place. read more
