Someone on YELP wrote this place has vegan options. We found very little offered -- two choices so both were ordered. All turned out incredibly awful! It was hard to imagine how, in all good conscience, they could serve it. I am talking mushy pasta, oily sauces, vegetables cooked into oblivion. Was in the area and looking for something with a more unique pub menu and this perfectly fit the bill. They don't do reservations or call ahead seating, so when we got there out our name in. It was a Friday evening around 6:30 and they told us 45 minutes, but ended up calling our name in 20. My wife got the Caprese Chicken Melt with Truffle Fries which was super flavorful. I ordered the Fried Chicken (sandwich) with Yuca Fries. Sandwich had tons of flavors as well. I'd asked for a side of the guava bbq sauce which was good, but the yuca fries also had a chimichuri sauce on them which was good too. Definitely recommend checking this place out. read more

I love Hemingways for so many reasons. The restaurant just has so much personality and with it being right next to the Oaks Move Theater, it's a perfect date spot for dinner and a movie. They have an excellent drink menu, made up of many rum drinks featuring Ernest Hemingway's signature rum, Papas Pillar. They have a very unique menu, with a Caribbean/Cuban flair. What a great experience! I only wish this place was near Miami. We were driving down from Orlando and wanted to eat something different. Thanks to our Yelpers we found this place. The menu selection is just right. There was so much I wanted to try. We had a few different appetizers such as the octopus hash, truffle fries, and the smoked fish dip. OMG the truffle fries are the BEST! The octopus was perfectly cooked and grilled on top of yucca and hash. So amazing. The smoked fish dip was a great touch with a side of spicy jelly. The service was outstanding. The restaurant manager came by with a Mother's Day scratch off and honored the win on our check. He did this because we couldn't use on another visit as we are not from Melbourne. I only wish I had a great tavern like this one with all its menu selections in Miami. read more

Today we ordered the conch fritters, Premier burger with truffle fries and the new lobster Cuban sandwich with truffle yucca fries! As always, every thing was very good. The lobster had no flavor in the Cuban. I think it was lost to the other ingredients (ham, cheese, sauce etc). I took some off of the sandwich and by itself was quite delicious. The truffle yucca did not taste like truffle but was good none the less. The burger as always was outstanding. Still remains one of our must go to's in Melbourne. read more

Ample parking at this relaxing establishment. Hostess greeted us promptly upon entering and asked if we wanted to be seated inside or outside. As it was a lovely evening, we chose to be seated outdoors. Happy hour runs from 3:29pm-6:29pm which we took advantage of. Margaritas were buy two for the price of one and truffle fries were the HH appetizer of the day. I ordered the Hibiscus Margarita with a sugar rim and was pleased (heavy on the Hibiscus). We also ordered the pork empanadas for an appetizer and they were divine!!! Highly recommend - just order a couple more pieces. They are fantastic even without the sauce they serve them with. As for main meals we ordered the Tacos and Bahamian Yard Bird Sandwich. The Jerk flavor was very mild however the texture and flavor combinations were really good. For dessert we ordered the Plantain Bread Pudding - it's great. Our server was Cinnamon and she was fantastic. Helpful recommendations, kept the table cleared, glasses full, and always checked in on our table. Overall a great location with great food. My only disappointment was how the Cuban flare had been dialed back on the dishes that gave a nod to Cuban dishes. I would however visit this location again. read more

The wife & I are passing through & some locals recommended Hemmingways Tavern. We were not disappointed. Jason R. was our host & he was excellent in his knowledge & suggestions on both drink & foods. He also timed everything just right so that we weren't waiting too long or items come out too early. The menu choice was difficult but we both ordered the Key West Bowl with mojo pork and it was outstanding. We also tried the Pain Killer & Old Fashioned cocktails. The Pain Killer was just as good as the original in the BVI's. And I'd have to say they have perfected the Old Fashioned with the Pilar Rum. The flavors were outstanding. We are only in town another week, but it's assured that we will return here. read more

Oh, man, I'm sure glad I came across Hemingway's Tavern during a recent day trip to Melbourne. The service was absolutely fantastic and the restaurant itself is quite interesting. Plus, I love their little gift shop -- they have some really great products! Now on to what really matters...the food and drinks! I had the Italian Risotto Croquettes to start. They were perfectly breaded and perfectly crispy on the outside. The risotto and mushroom filling was perfectly cooked. That said, they were really lacking in flavor. Thankfully, a little salt and pepper were able to save the day but I would've absolutely loved if they had been more flavorful on their own. They would've benefitted from a greater amount of black truffle as it wasn't evident at all. They're accompanied by a slightly spicy and herby marinara sauce which really added a nice, flavorful touch! For my entree, I opted for the Salad Combo. Specifically, I had the House Salad and Caribbean Black Bean Soup. The soup was delightful! It was flavorful and savory and, after I added a bit of the yummy hot sauce (which is also for sale in the gift shop), it was absolutely perfect! The salad was nice overall although it was brought out to me without any dressing at all, which was a definitely a miss from the kitchen staff as well as from the person who bought it out (it wasn't the waiter, it was another team member). Once I alerted our server to the issue, he speedily brought out the lemon-caper dressing that was suppose to accompany the salad...and it was delicious! I also had a Margarita Hemingway which I enjoyed very much. I specially loved the interplay between the agave nectar and the orange juice. It's definitely a must-try! Food: I had the Havana burger, it was delicious... spicy mayo (I think?), Jalepenos and even pulled pork on top! It was very good. The only thing that was bad... and it wasn't even that bad... was I ordered medium well but it came out pretty rare. I like my steak medium rare, but since burgers are ground beef, I need that thing to be cooked through. It was still good but I did not want to send it back because it was redder than I would have liked. Atmosphere: Quaint. Quirky. It's a nice place inside. Seemed very clean and cool decorations. One comment - we sat under the empty alcohol bottles and they were all very dusty... it was kind of unsettling thinking I was eating under all of that dust...? Maybe clean them once in a while...? Price: 20$ for a solid burger and drink. Happy hour is super cheap also, so if you go early you will save some money! Service: Our Server was Great, no complaints there. The frustrating part - we were sitting at the outdoor area. Our blind family member had her guide dog. We asked for water for her guide dog, but they didn't supply water because it's against the restaurant's policy to give dogs water, even service dogs. Never heard of such a policy. It gets hot and humid outside in Fl. Because of this policy I will avoid this place in the future. The food was decent. We had the bison burger and a key west snapper bowl. The snapper was pretty bland but the rest of the bowl was seasoned well. It was $19. The burger was $20 and didn't come with fries. Fries was an extra $4.50. Haha this place is sooo overpriced and not worth it. The wait was originally estimated to be 20 mins but ended it up being 40 minutes. My husband did the Cuban sandwich with a side salad that was nicely pressed. My sister in law got the snapper Hemingway which is delightful. The food: was amazing the Tacos (pork or chicken) were delicious, the rib platter is two halves of a whole rack of ribs with a delicious BBQ sauce served with, perfectly seasoned and fried, steak fries, and a lovely coconut touched coleslaw. Outstanding dinner tonight at Hemingway's! I had the Snapper Hemingway which was Panko crusted and slightly fried along with Caribe rice (so flavorful!) and I substituted asparagus for some awesome truffle fries. Since it was a nice evening I ate outside on the patio, the inside is very warm and inviting as well. They have a full bar and a handful of drafts. Jessica did a fantastic job serving us.
