My dog and I both love Henery's. It is small, yet has what you need. Somehow they get a lot into that small building! Speaking of that, go back to the aisle with the many small boxes that contain every tiny, unassuming replacement thingamabob and doohicky ever made in the world! I have NEVER seen this assortment of bits and thingies anywhere else. I mean let's say your hammock stand loses that screw with the largish plastic knob to help turn it with only your hand. By golly, there's a replacement one in that aisle! It is similar to Harry Potter's room of requirement if everything required was small. The workers are extraordinarily friendly. They either really like their jobs or are award-winning actors because I am a believer. BTW, dogs and the humans get free treats (popcorn for humans). Know that they do not sell lumber. Also know, you can rent stuff like power washers, etc. So what's not to love? It's WAY better than some gwaddafful anonymous big box. Albeit some things are more expensive than...say Amazon, but that is small town life. I read the review that complained of all the merchandise there being from China. NOT 100% true because I bought a nice bird feeder made in the USA there, but yeah most of it is. Everything everywhere is made in China, not just at Henery's. Heck, your souvenir to remember your wonderful trip to "fill in the blank" (not China) was probably made in China. Caveat though. Because they are small (but mighty), you sometimes may need to go to said big box. Hopefully not though. P.S. There has been discussion in my household as to whether it is pronounced with two syllables (HEN-RYS) or three (HE-NER-IES), so if someone with certain knowledge of it can clear that up, it would end that discussion once and for all. read more

It's a good store. Especially since they replaced the broken components of the ladies' room. (I still maintain that no matter how many times I asked employees to pass on the message that the toilet and sink were in unsatisfactory condition, things did not change for a couple years). However, there are some amazing employees who really know their stuff! Especially regarding our experience in hardware and fasteners. The cashiers are also very kind. Recommend. read more

I understand that people working today are stressed but somehow I think the poor service - from all but one of the five employees I interacted with during my last two visits there -- is unrelated to COVID. I have a great deal of respect for this store. Their commitment to the community is more than just rhetoric. They are open more hours than any hardware or lumber store in the region. They take seriously their role as "job creator" in a town that needs that. And they pay serious attention to what our other stores sell and do not sell, so that they can meet an ever-changing need without being overly redundant. And their prices are reasonable. I am constantly amazed at how much they cram into this store. It's like someone took a big box store, distilled it to essentials, turned a shrink ray onto what was left, and then added staff who are both helpful and clueful. I use Amazon a lot because I value my time: their interface lets you quickly drill down through a large selection to find what you need. But I also value local merchants who can provide something that I need Right Now and who give back to the community. So when I need hardware-ish things in Port Townsend, I always check Henery before ordering from Amazon. Several times, the staff has pointed me at things that I was honestly surprised to find (like Waddell table legs, when I wanted to make a half-door into a table). Pro tip: check the aisle ends. That's where you'll find things that don't fit into neat categories. read more

I can't imagine that there would be anything you'd need that you couldn't find at Henery's Hardware. But the wonderfully helpful customer service is a tremendous asset to the business. I'd like to praise Karen's superior service, in particular. She exhibited endless patience and perseverance as she successfully solved two tedious and very challenging problems that I presented to her recently. Even though it was at the end of the day, she tirelessly -- and with great skill -- turned both of my non-working items into ones that functioned perfectly. Without a hint of impatience, she didn't hesitate until this customer left fully satisfied. If only other businesses had more Karens as their employees! read more

I rent power washers and airless sprayer from them a lot. If I ever run into any problems with their equipment they fix the problem and give me a discount on the rental. My only complaint is their prices are a little high on certain items. read more

I love Port Townsend and this is a really cool hardware store. They have fun arty things and colorful accessories mixed in with the boring hardware items. However, the staff is less than super helpful. They weren't unfriendly, but I had a difficult request (anything white that could be used as a reflector) and they couldn't think of one thing that would fit the bill. Just as they were saying, no, no white reflective stuff here, I look over and see a woman checking out with, wait for it, white reflective acrylic--I'm not even sure what it was to be used for. The two salespeople said oh, yeah, that is white and reflective. I'd just like to say that the customer service level is not up to the cuteness of the store. That is all. read more

I was disappointed to find that that the shelves are packed floor to ceiling with products from China, Taiwan, and the Philippines. I realized that now most small and large box store chains have gone this route, however, this is a small store and a small American town and I went there to pick up some basic tools for my garden and shop and I could not find a single product they sold that was manufactured in the USA. We still have lots of good manufacturing here in America - especially in high quality tools. Really disappointing. When I gave the staff my feedback, they replied that they just work here for minimum wage and are not really paid to think about it and these were mature people behind the desk - e.g. my parents generation who really did not care one bit. It also smelled heavily of chemicals and plastics. Not much by way of sustainable products. Stores like this that do not honor the USA should change the name on their store front to read Henery Do it Best Hardware - Asia. And shame on the community for not asking more questions and demanding that they carry more American made sustainable products instead of cheap imports from china. I won't be going back. read more

This has to be the single most rude hardware store I've ever been in, in my life. Prices outrageous, and you need serious tracking skills to find someone who will help you with a question. Once the question is asked, prepare yourself to be treated in the most humiliating and arrogant way possible. My husband and I live in a small town. We understand people can get isolated and exclusive. But this town is just bizarre and freakish with the ever-present and resounding arrogance and unfriendliness. It seemed almost as if the locals were actualy insulted by attempts to just be friendly and warm. Thankfully a "local" (who said she was actually from New Mexico,) enlightened us that if we had the time, we'd be better off to drive 30 miles to a Wal Mart at a nearby town to get what we were looking for at a decent price. Since we're headed that direction anyway, we'll take her up on her advice. I just can't imagine how local people can even stand to shop in this grossly unfriendly store, let alone afford it! read more
