I have rented equipment from Northern Rentals many times in 2025 and 2026. I have had so many…read moreproblems with their smaller gas powered machines. The heavy equipment has been great. But, literally every time I've rented the small gas powered equipment my employee had to return it. I have lost approximately $700 in wasted employee time over the last 2 years. The last straw was that the manager blew me off when they sent me a medium stump grinder and it didnt work, my employee had to drive back to Poulsbo and return it. I wasted $280 in labor on travel time, running the machine that puked until it would die every 5 minutes. The employee (who is also a good mechanic) figured out that it needed a new coil, we didnt have one hand, so he had to return it and proved to Northern's mechanic that it was dying all the time. I told the sales guys at Northern that this is one of many times we have had to pay our employee to go through this and they knew I was right. I asked them to comp me essentially half the cost of the next biggest machine, which would have cost them at the most $300 retail. They asked the manager, he said NO and offered no compensation whatsoever. This is not the American way, this isnt even normal, it is unethical and lowlife behavior.

Over the past 4 months, I've noticed a disturbing trend--I've been charged double the rental cost EVERY SINGLE TIME. And when I try to get answers? I get excuses and silence. The final straw was a recent trailer rental. I picked it up at 1pm for a 4-hour rental. Due to heavy traffic and a backup at the dump, I couldn't return it exactly on time--but I called ahead and told them I'd have it back before 1pm the next day. I returned it on time, no issues... or so I thought. Then I get the bill--and it's TRIPLE what it should be. Turns out I'm being charged for someone else's rental, and they're just sticking me with it like it's no big deal. What should have been $200 somehow ballooned into $500. No explanation. No accountability. This place used to be great. Now it feels like they're just gouging loyal customers. Be warned: double check everything and don't expect fairness or customer service. I won't be coming back, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

He worked on our two Husqvarna Automowers and did warranty work for one of them and yearly services on the other. We are very happy with the work and efficiency. We would suggest going to Oak Harbor Diamond Rentals for your Husqvarna Automowers to buy or get service. We live over a hour a way from them and they are not the closet to us. But worth it! We called lots of the Husqvarna Automowers dealers and servicers in this region and Brandon was the ONLY knowledgeable one. All of the rest of the Automower dealers both north and south in this region are not knowledgeable or nice. We started with a Bellingham WA location Automower dealer and even bought our first auto mower from them. We do not suggest going to the Bellingham Location. They are not helpful, difficult to reach, and simply don't have the expertise to service what they sold. Ultimately a huge disappointment. (Thankfully we found Brandon in Oak Harbor to service our Automowers.)

I learned and it's verifiable in their own words that they tried to sell the business as a whole. I heard that the buyers pulled out once they saw just how bad a shape the equipment was in. Many years ago I rented from them and each time the equipment failed. The man of the mom and pop organization threw me out of the store even calling the police to ban me from the sight. I rented from Seattle and Oak Harbor rental stores ever since and NEVER has any tool rental company had a problem with me. The axle broke a couple times , the engine bolts backed out and started to split (The owner of Sherlock informed me that this is an occurrence that he has seen several times and has had to fix?)! Luckily I service, store inside and pay attention to my tractor! The last time my axle broke , the owner said he would not honor the warranty any longer and that I should not be using the forklift attachment that they sold me ? He said I was using it to much and if I was not using it so much this sort of thing would not happen! So if you are in the market to buy a tractor I would suggest you fork out a few more dollars and buy another brand and go to a reputable dealer !!!! In other words I will never buy anything here again !
