Came here for happy hour 5-7pm. They have a pretty good selection for drinks on the HH list. For food there wasn't so many. I ordered the meatball sliders and chicken quesadillas , $5 each( 1-10 taste was a 4) . I also ordered the Irish nachos which was good! This place is a cute little bar at the corner of Herschel, street parking. Nice setting and not too crowded. Our waitress was very nice, & kept coming back to check up on us. I wouldn't mind coming back next time when i'm in the area for a drink or two. read more

Went here for St. Patrick's Day 2014. They were running on a "first come, first serve" basis which made seating quite awkward. There were 2 people sitting at tables for 8 and people awkwardly standing all around the restaurant waiting to pounce on a table. We, like the others, pounced on a table that had yet to be cleaned. Myself and my fiancé ordered a guinness to start. It arrived in a 16oz plastic clear solo cup. (Guinness on St. Patricks day in a plastic cup? Really? And for $6.50?) There was a pre-set menu with a pathetic offering of things like "Irish Tuna Sandwich" and "Irish Nachos"... aka they just put Irish in front of everything and charged premium prices. We ordered the Shepard's Pie and Corned Beef and Cabbage. The Shepard's Pie was mediocre at best, served with unseasoned veggies. The dish was 85% potato. The corned beef was virtually inedible. It was extremely chewy and dry, not to mention lacking in any flavor. Served with boiled carrot and canned white potatoes. The only redeeming aspect of the dish was the horseradish sauce that was particularly handy to coat the otherwise flavorless food. The server was nice and friendly but service was incredibly slow and inefficient. I am sure the experience for non-holidays is a bit better but come on, if you're an Irish place and can't do St. Patrick's Day right, you've got problems. read more

Went for happy hour. Fresh squeezed Greyhound was awesome. Great happy hour menu. We got the wings because of the Yelp check-in discount. They were over cooked and just not really that good. Food=All american burger was delicious! Friends also liked their burger and calamari. Service=rude! Laura needs to introduce herself (got name off bill), learn to smile, keep water filled, not clear table while we're still at it (or at least not slam all the dishes together), check in with us by stopping at table as opposed to while she is walking by, not rush us by asking if we want boxes but instead ask if there's anything we'd like since we'd been trying to get her attention for five minutes, not be trying to chat with the bartender as opposed to serving her tables. I ordered The Lad's Steak & Shrimp. The steak was tough. The shrimp were good, but there were only two of them, and they were small.

This is a fantastic spot to eat if you're in La Jolla. We found it wandering around and decided to stop in. The service was good and she made sure to come check in often and make sure drinks were taken care of. The bar was quite and the overall ambiance was relaxed. Our food came out fast and all seemed fresh. The bill was expected but nothing was outrageously priced. We went at 7 on a Monday so it wasn't too busy but could definitely see it getting packed on a weekend. I would give them a chance if your in the area, I've only ever been the once. read more

My coworkers and I come here quite a bit on Friday afternoons for HH. The outdoor fire pit is great, but the indoor seating is a bit awkward and the seats are uncomfortable. Wow Clinton is a total zero in customer service. Example is when I asked for the address for uber and he told me 'I don't know'...hmm does not inspire any sort of safety confidence...rude and insultante also, i felt like I was bothering him by being there. My BFF and I stumbled into this location completely by accident and boy was it a great accident we had the crunchy shrimp and it was amaze balls delicious! Because we were on a tour , I didn't get to stay any longer than just to eat real quick however Memories were made and this is somewhere I would come back to with my buddies when I am in San Diego wanting to watch a game or hang out this is an excellent sports bar with a really terrific ambiance, the fast service and Tension to detail was spot on and the flavors were delicious and I have fond memories of the delicious crunchy shrimp. Been here a couple of times and most recent was after a Christmas party in La Jolla my group wanted continue the night of fun. Called around different places but most restaurants were booked and/ or in order to reserve a private spot dinner had to be served. We were just looking for a place to get a couple of drinks since we had dinner prior to coming and Hennessy's was able to accommodate my party of 25 people during a busy December weekend. Parking wasn't so bad around 930pm and we had a nice private section in the back of the restaurant that was close to the restrooms and bar/ with tv view and live music in the main section of the bar. Service was good and attentive. Luckily the kitchen was still open since some of my group was still hungry. Ordered PUB NACHOS (Black beans, chicken, cheese, tomatoes, pico de gallo, scallions, jalapenos & sour cream.) They were good BUT the portion was small. The prime rib sliders were delicious and everyone was addicted to the french fries. Drinks were at a fair price. Everyone enjoyed and loved how it was open late. Awesome place if you a huge group or even if you have a couple friends that just want to grab a drink and hangout at their fire pits. Highly recommended. read more

Our staff started frequenting the spot for lunch/happy hours (especially Tuesday's 2-for-1 burgers!), and our business relationship took off from there. We've received great service and follow through- from catering several large events for us (including a charity breakfast), and hosting our company holiday party. we were in la jolla and my husband was looking a good place for our early lunch, we walked in and were told to sit anywhere we liked . it's a nice modern version of an Irish pub, my husband got the spicy lass burger, medium well.. with the special that day, a bloody mary. I got the root beer float, and fish and chips. we both loved our food. I'd recommend this place to eat. a little side note, we went on a Saturday and the seat next to me had broken glass on it, when I told my husband, he said there was some on his bench seat as well. I didn't mention it, as it wasn't an issue for me. read more

We decided to have our destination wedding rehearsal dinner here thanks to a tip from an employee's brother (Kyle). If you need a vacation rental for you stay, check out San Diego Coast Rentals! Eric was fantastic to work with! From the start, everyone at Hennessey's was very helpful and friendly. We did a tasting the month before the wedding and couldn't have asked for better service. Kyle, the assistant manager, was very helpful! We tasted several appetizers -- you must have their onion rings! -- and decided it was all so good that we would definitely have the rehearsal there with a 100% open menu. Holly, the manager, did a fantastic job making the place cozy and beautiful! It was beyond anything I thought it would be. The price was right. The food is FANTASTIC! None of our 30 guests had a single complaint about the service or the food. Holly also went well beyond expectations to fix a slight snafu with some cookies we had sent to us that broke along the way. She had their pastry chef make us some new ones that were identical, and they were AMAZING! She even kept the drama away from me and just took care of it, which was lovely given my pre-wedding stress level. Thank you again, Hennessey's, for a lovely evening and amazing food! We will definitely be seeing you next time we are in beautiful La Jolla. You should advertise having more rehearsal dinners at your place! read more

Hennessey's is my go-to spot anytime I'm in La Jolla. If you are a down to earth person who's not interested in high priced cocktails and an elitist atmosphere, go to Hennessey's! It is a beautiful place to relax with a fire pit, patio, excellent wait staff that always takes care of you (ask for Kim or Ana!), and great food. You will meet good company and feel right at home. Our server, Kimberly, was very professional, courteous, attentive, friendly and delivered EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE! She made us feel welcomed, important and fulfilled our dishes TO PERFECTION. Love this place on so many levels. Food is good. People are friendly and the whole atmosphere is so atypical of your average La Jolla or San Diego "attitude" bar. Let's start with food- solid menu with lots of options and everything good. Add on fair and not rip off prices. Good food and drink not relevant without the service. Wow, the people who work here love their jobs. They always have a smile on their face and the number of returning locals speaks volumes. My absolute favorite is Victoria who is on top of it from the moment you sit down. I don't sit at the bar but I believe the bartender is Jenna and she is constantly in motion from one end of the bar to the other. Special service is noticeable not taken for granted. Also they open at 8 on the weekends and close at 2.am every night. As far as I know this is the only 2 am bar in La Jolla. It speaks volumes that the workers from La Valencia, Eddie V's -- you name it-- come here after to work to wind down. Oh don't let me leave out the fabulous fire pit that is a magnet for nice people. As I've said to some of the employees in a quiet moment, this is such a different and better vibe then any other La Jolla place and half the price. Don't get me wrong, I will still go to the Eddie V, La V, Whisky N Laddle at times but when I just want to have a good time, watch a game or admire pretty woman, I am coming here. Used to visit this place every Sunday as a kid after church when it was in PB and loved it. Captain Crunch French toast ftw!!! Moved to Texas for 10 years, came back and found it in La Jolla. I've only been on Sunday mornings for brunch (not during football season) and it's always very quite and comfy. Very unique seating arrangements make some areas very intimate. Dan (manager) and his awesome team (especially Adrian!) served myself and our guests for our wedding weekend. We came three nights just for fun and one night they hosted our 120-person welcome party. Dan worked with us from start to finish to plan this event within our budget and our group size. We basically took over the whole bar and they served a delicious buffet and everyone had a drink. They managed a large group with smiles on their faces and great customer service. It really is a fun bar with outdoor/indoor spaces, a great team, and has fun events like karaoke nights. This place is my neighborhood hangout, so I'm a bit biased. But it's a great place to grab a beer, watch a game and get a filling meal. There are drink and food specials every day of the week. Happy hour is highly recommended as is the 2-for-1 burger deal on Tuesdays. All of the bartenders and servers are very friendly and the service itself is very fast. The high ratings for this place were deceiving. We started out with the spinach artichoke dip. The dip was decently good; it was tasty but nothing exceptional. The overly toasted pieces of bread they served with it tasted stale and not fresh, which lowered the experience of the dip. I got the shepard's pie, which was pretty disappointing. The carrots tasted like they were frozen, and the dish was pretty flavorless overall. The menu described "a burgandy wine sauce" which must have evaporated while cooking, leaving no trace of flavor behind. It really needed a gravy or something to add flavor to the mashed potatoes and ground meat. The vegetables served on the side were absolutely terrible - the broccoli tasted like it had been soaked in salt water and butter, topped with shredded carrots that did not help at all. I ate 2 pieces of broccoli and couldn't eat anymore, and I usually love broccoli. The quality of the dish was just sub par; I ate half and had no desire to bring the rest home. My boyfriend got the battered shrimp tacos. He said they were dry, and nothing special. Why pay that much for shrimp tacos, when you can get far more delicious ones for less at other places (Oscar's, World Famous, etc). I won't return here, and I wouldn't recommend this place for anything other than a drink. Even then, drinks looked overpriced for what they were. read more
