Great service, as always. Nice, semi-kitschy decorations, I would just hate to be sitting in one of the booths that line the wall during an earthquake... Joann was our server today, very friendly and attentive. It was pretty busy, no surprise there considering it is a Saturday morning, that weekend breakfast rush was in full effect. The rush doesn't slow them down, however. We got our food no less than 10 minutes after placing the order, all plates came out at the same time. I couldn't make it through my waffle, but that's for my own reasons (no sleep = no appetite), not because it was anything less than delicious. On another note, I officially hate Nico's (on Shoup and Sherman Way if you're not familiar) for personal reasons and in comparison to this establishment. Henri's is very clean, everywhere! The walls may have plates and teapots hung and displayed, but they're so clean. Nico's is dirty as hell, you know this if you've ever sat at a booth near a window.... If I can give a zero star that would've been ideal. Our server took our order and 35 minutes later when we checked in on our food, we were given an excuse about our order. Meanwhile 3 parties the same size as ours were served and almost done eating. The server panicked and realized the order wasn't sent in. All the kitchen staff and servers panicked. We waited 5 minutes to see if they would at least communicate the error and oversight with us and ABSOLUTELY NO COMMUNICATION. Not to mention I had my 2 small children with me who were anxiously waiting to eat. Definitely never going back and unacceptable and unprofessional management and staff here. Stay clear from this place all families!! The excuse the little young girl waiter gave made no sense---depending on the size of the order that's what will be prioritized. Henri's was my favorite restaurant ever since I moved to the west valley. I would never miss a Sunday visit to eat here with my girlfriend. I think of the last 40 sundays I've probably eaten at henris 36 of them. We were diehard fans of Henris and recommended it to countless people. But today I had an experience that made me want to never return. We sat down, got a couple drinks, but then continued to sit and wait with closed menus for a full half hour while the waitress in charge of our section completely ignored us. This was also not a terribly busy time at the restaurant - it was less than half full. I'm not sure if she just didn't like the way we looked, or if maybe it was racially motivated in some way. But during this half hour a white family came in about 20 minutes after our arrival - they were seated and their order was taken within 5 minutes of their arrival. We paid for our iced tea and coke and just left. I'm not sure the name of the waitress in question, and I don't like to let one bad person or experience completely reshape the way I feel about a place. But this was hard to ignore and I'd be surprised if we ever returned. read more

What makes this place special isn't the food, although it is good, it's the people. The cast of regulars who frequent this place remind us of what the west valley was before it had it's reputation tainted by 80's teen movies and 30 years of porn production. Hard as it may be to believe, the valley was once the home to ranchers and farmers. Orchards filled the landscape and men on horses roamed it. Those time may be gone, but the characters from it are not. At Henri's, you can still find these grizzled and worn old-timers chowing down on steak and eggs with a side of black coffee. If it were still legal to smoke in restaurants, the air would most certainly be thick with tobacco fog as well. Imagine if No Country For Old Men mixed with the diner from Pulp Fiction. That's Henri's. It's not just the regulars that are a throwback to the past though. Most of the waitresses have been here for years. Some even for decades. Long enough that when the of the gravel-voiced regulars call them Flo, they actually get the reference. Unlike the majority of LA, the women here are career waitresses. No struggling actresses waiting for their big break, just hard-working mothers and grandmothers trying to put food on the table. Their good with names, but better with faces. If you've been here more than a few times, they'll remember. The food matches the scene I've set. There will be no experimental or innovative menu items here, just classic greasy spoon diner dishes. If you are feeling extra hungry, go for the 2x2x2x2x2, a belly-busting spread of 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 2 sausage links, 2 pancakes, and 2 pieces of french toast. The biscuits and gravy are sure to test the elasticity of your jeans as well. They have lighter options, but I'm not quite sure why anyone who goes here would want them. As far as I'm concerned, there are few places in the valley better to people watch then at Henri's. From its decor, to its staff, to its customers; it's an living and breathing time capsule of a generation of Angelinos that are near extinct. So go while you can, because it's only a matter of time before it too is gone. read more

Henri's is really the best place to go have breakfast in the West Valley. The place is nice. It seems to be kept in good shape. They waitresses are for the most part attentive. I've had my bad experiences, but those are the exception. As for the food, you can't beat either the 2x2x2x2x2 (2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 pancakes, and 2 french toast halves) or the chicken friend steak. Be sure to check the specials, because sometimes the giant chicken friend steak is $9.99. It is really giant. I am not kidding. They also have something called "Special French Toast" which really is something special. Highly recommended. They have good coffee, and even the option to upgrade to Rocky Roasters, a local coffee shop's brew. Awesome. Don't let them tell you they don't have half and half. They used to not carry it, but now they do, you just have to ask for it. Some of the waitresses don't know this yet. ;) Another thing about this place is that they have lotto. You can play keno at all hours, get scratchers from the vending machine, or participate in their lottery pot! Last, but certainly not least, they have a bar. I do not live in the Valley nor come very often but my father recently moved back to Woodland Hills and in the process found this little place. I have to say, it is really hard to impress me the way Henri's did, but every time I go visit him, I suggest we eat here. First off, in an age with chain restaurants were you seem to be treated like cattle, Henri's is still the place where you can go and feel really appreciated as a customer. I hate to be cliche, but it really feels like the TV show Cheer's, where everyone knows your name. My dad seems to go every week and all the waitresses and even the cooks known his name, generally what he likes to order and even gives him a hard time about life, in a polite and joking manner. The food is also very impressive. I have had everything from the pancakes and French toast to the turkey burger to omelets to salads and every time I have left full and satisfied. I honestly cannot find something to complain about with the food at this place. I think they have some of the best sandwiches and turkey burger that I have ever tried. I am also told the desserts there are to die for, but I have yet to attempt to eat them, mainly because I am usually so full from the meal. The prices there are also very reasonable. A couple of weeks ago, we had a party of three, we all had dinner and drinks and it was under $50, which was very impressive, at least for Los Angeles. Having a full bar is also a huge plus, especially at a diner, which to me seems a bit rare. I am told the place makes the best bloody mary in town, although I have never tried it, not a fan of tomato juice. I started coming here for the jazz which is free on Friday and Saturday nights. very cool. I haven't been back lately because of a scheduling issue. Drinks were great. Large Pours. and the lady behind the bar knows how to make some hellacious martinis and manhattans. the perfect drink for taking in some jazz. I got a couple of appetizers from the bar menu. Henris serves up the best, most generous portion of chicken fried steak for the price of any diner I've been to. Definitely my favorite diner in this area/ It comes with toast, home fries or hash browns, and THREE eggs! The eggs are cooked perfectly, the gravy is pretty good, and the chicken fried steak is nice, crispy, and big. I don't like the sandwiches as much as the breakfast items. The fries are nothing to write home about. But what I really love about Henri's is the spacious floor layout, natural light, and view of the street outside (wide sidewalks = people watching opportunity not available at other Chatsworth diners). read more

My mantra for this place is that if you don't want to wait, or you want really friendly service, don't go to Henri's. The food is outstanding, but twice the same waitress has forgotten my toast, seemed put out by my group even being there, and just generally puts me off going here. I do really like the food (The waffles and danishes are fantastic) but the service makes me want to never return. The wait times between coffee refills are way too long and the food takes too long to get to the table. It's never even as busy as CiCi's, but the food takes just as long. Family from my husband's side holds Henri's near and dear to their hearts and thanks to them, I have been introduced to this place! Breakfast is god! Good flavors, good portions, and will definitely leave you satisfied. They have your usual breakfast items on the menu which stays true to it's divey, homie ambiance. I really like that they set up a breakfast buffet for special occasions such as mother's day! They even provide roses for the moms! Such a nice touch! Service is good! Staff have always been friendly. There have been some occasions of our orders getting mixed up but I do take note that they're usually very busy. Came here for Tuesday brunch since Iz was off and I didn't have to work until 5. My coworker is a bus boy here and won't shut up about how great it is and how I HAVE to come here. Sooooo we ended up here this afternoon. We parked on the street with metered parking but after we were done we realized there was a parking lot in the back (doh!). It wasn't very busy, granted it was a Tuesday, so we sat down, wherever we wanted since its seat yourself, and waited for our server to greet us. A few minutes after we sat down our server, Nikki, greeted us and took our drink order in between bantering with the regulars and coworkers. We got water and coffee which came out immediately. Iz ordered the Louisiana Hot Links and eggs with a side of hash browns and biscuits and gravy to go with it. I had the French dip sandwich with fries. Our order took less than 10 minutes to come out and the plates of food we got were HUGE. My French Dip was pretty tasty. The beef was seasoned nicely, the bread was soft and the au jus was kind of salty but I'd prefer that than the bland brown water I've had at other places. The french fries were really good and crispy. Iz loved her food and her eggs were perfectly cooked. For such a small person she somehow managed to eat it all, even the biscuits and gravy (though I helped a little bit). One of the things that stood out the most was that our waters and coffee were never empty. Nikki or her coworker always had them full. Iz really liked this since it kept her coffee hot instead of getting cold. We received our check and paid at the front and headed home to a well deserved nap! My only complaint was that the place wasn't exactly the cleanest but after being around for so long what do you expect? If you're looking for an old school diner this is the place to go. Meh. If I eat here again, Henri's might possibly get a third star from me, but I can't imagine going back. However, we ate here because of a "Buy One Meal, Get 50% Off the Second Meal with the Purchase of Two Drinks" coupon and figured it was the perfect opportunity to try out this local restaurant we'd been meaning to for months. And the place was very busy, so I'll give Henri's the benefit of the doubt and presume a lot of others were there as well for the coupon. But if you're going to run a coupon, anticipate extra business and have more staff there for the customers! We walked in, and went to the cashier. The surly, pony-tailed guy there did NOT look pleased to see two more customers. I figured he'd greet us at least with "How many?" Or "Two?" But, no. He just said, "Sit wherever you want." We found a booth and the ONE waitress handling the entire west room eventually gets to us, hands us menus, then seems to forget about us. Meanwhile, she's already taking the orders of two other tables that came in after us! Perhaps they were regulars, but still, this is no excuse. Long story short: It was 35 minutes from the time we gave our order to the waitress until we got our meal. (Okay, my friend's soup came before that, without crackers, and no way to flag this woman down.) When our food did come, the vegetables were good and hot. My baked potato was reasonably warm. The entree - the meatloaf? Not even luke warm! No point in sending it back at this point. By now the place had emptied out, but the waitress never came back to ask us how the food was - we presumed she knew and didn't want to hear it. No thank yous from the waitress or the rude jackass at the cash register, either, when we paid the bill and left. Really poor service, cold food. This place reminds me of Dolores' in West LA: Unremarkable food, prices on the high side, lousy service, and yet somehow it's still beloved, presumably due to hipsters that are somehow in love with the look of ancient diners. Go to Denny's if you want a better meal, for a decent price within a reasonable amount of time! Went for dinner. Stood there for 5 minutes before the waitress says we can sit anywhere. She had seen us when we walked in but initially said nothing. We order one of the specials; a steak dinner with garlic toast and fresh vegetables. Our meals arrived in less than 5 minutes. The first thing I said was that my plate smells funny. 1. My steak was well done NOT rare as I ordered. 2. The garlic bread WASN'T garlic bread. 3. The vegetables were slightly burned from being in the steamer all day. 4. Hadn't been there in ages but remembered it was good . DAWN was an exceptional waitress in a very busy restaurant. She never lost her cool despite lots of crazy people and lots of business. The best part of the dining experience was the exceptional service of Dawn. The Turkey Burger with fresh fruit was good but not a 5. The fruit was under ripe and the T Burger was great. Again, this is a great coffee shop experience. Trim the hard rinds from the under ripe fruit and it's a 5 in the diner class. Had Just come back from Mexico being there for a whołe week. Woke up wanting an American juicy steak/eggs for breakfast. I went here than going to typical Denny's. This was my first time at Henris though it's about a 1-2 minute drive from my home. I walked to the hostess-looked like she was texting. I asked for the menu then placed my order of "medium" steak to go. She said 10-15 it would be ready. Ok returned 10 minutes after to pick it up. Drove back home. Cut into it- it was tough. It was "well done" By "well done" I also mean dry. My husband called to let her know I ordered "medium" but the steak was "well done" and dry. We got a sensed of careless tone in her voice. She never checked on us or refilled our beverages. We spoke to the manager who was very rude and didnt even take any responsibility for the long wait. Having kids with us, made it a tough lunch. Here's a tip: Henri's on the north side of Sherman Way in Canoga Park serves a damn good chicken-fried steak. It's always on the menu but when it's a special they double the size of the steak. Didn't have room to try any of their 8-10 pies. Nikki, our waitress, was great. The clientele, a lot of elderly white dudes, is colorful. All in all - great foods and a great time.
