Been there twice, food was great both times. Second time there we wanted to sit outside. We waited inside and no one seated us so we walked out to the outside seating, and asked the waitress if we could sit outside. Her answer was a bit abrupt. We sat down and when she finally came to our table, there was no "hi what can I get for you" just an abrupt "what are you drinking" . I feel terrible giving a review so low, but this was honestly just a terrible experience. Our server was nice, but pushed us to order drinks and food too quickly-- so quickly that our food order wasn't taken correctly. The food itself was just awful. My partner ordered fish and chips, which is apparently a Henry's favorite. The breading fell off the fish, which was mushy. The coleslaw was rancid, yet we were told they make it fresh every day. I ordered a BLT with a side salad. The sandwich was fine, but the greens in my salad were rotten and I couldn't eat it. We told the server about the bad food. She acknowledged the greens were bad, but was super dismissive about the coleslaw. She offered us a free dessert-- but after a bad meal at a restaurant, who would want to eat more of their food? We declined, hoping we'd get some money off our meal since we couldn't eat a lot of it. We didn't, and it was really disappointing. I remember coming here years ago and it was good. One time home to Neville Heating and Plumbing, and then home to Saratoga Organics and Hydroponic Supply, the conversion of the space to Henry's Tavern appears to have been successful. It's not a large space and seems to be quite popular with the locals as evidenced by the full bar and high level din of the folks at the tables. The high tin ceiling most likely contributes to this acoustic attribute. Luckily we were able to score a table at about 6:00 on a Saturday evening. There is a good selection of 14 drafts available ranging from the ubiquitous Bud and its Lighter brother, to local and distant craft brews from Davidson's, Schmaltz, Dog Fish Head and more. Our service was well intentioned but inconsistent and possibly the result of it being the server's first day (which she shared with us as we paid our bill). There were at least three servers working the floor covering 10 to 12 tables. Beers were slow in getting to the table, starting with a Davidson Belgian Triple ($6/ 12 oz.?), a Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale ($6/ 16 oz.), and finally a Guinness ($6.50/ 16 oz.). The execution of the kitchen seemed inconsistent also. The HT Wings ($12/ ten) were plump, juicy, and really crispy when they were placed on the table. The house Habanero sauce had just enough heat and lots of flavor. Depending on how quickly you ate the wings, by the second or third wing the crispiness was gone because the sauce had been slathered on the wings. I'd suggest asking for the sauce on the side to assist in preserving that crispiness. The accompanying carrots, celery and blue cheese had one annoying problem. The veggies had been julienned so narrow that they were unable to scoop up any of the chunks of blue cheese. Otherwise, these were very enjoyable wings. I ordered the Chianti Braised Short Rib ($19) served over mashed potatoes with a really nice rich brown gravy. The slab of boneless rib was tender, tasty, and absolutely delicious with the freshly mashed potatoes and gravy. Definitely a high point from the kitchen. My wife's Green Goddess sandwich ($10) was served on her requested sourdough bread and needed much more time on the grill or griddle. The bread had very minimal browning and the mozzarella cheese had not melted. The slice of cheese still looked like an obvious slice of un-melted cheese between to slices of bread, and the advertised "sliced avocado" was actually an avocado spread. The sandwich did have basil pesto and baby spinach. We had asked if "Henry's hand-cut french fries" were freshly cut in house and were told that they were frozen, but much better than your typical fries. In fact, they were no better than your very average frozen fries. Having previous positive, personal experience with Smith's Orchard pies, I was ready to move on to dessert. Four different varieties were being offered and one was the one that I probably would have bought the next time I visited the orchard - Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie ($5/slice). They even served it warm. A delicious brownie on the bottom, a whipped peanut butter on top with a nice dollop of whipped cream. A perfect and redeeming finish to our dinner. So I would say there may be some hits and misses here, you'll just have to try a few things to decide what you might come back for. It certainly has potential. As a final note, on this Saturday evening they also had Marcus Ruggiero singing and playing guitar starting at 6:30 pm. That alone should be a reason to check this place out and at least enjoy his performance along with a beer. read more

My group of 5 went to Henry's for Sunday brunch. We were promptly seated a brought most of our drinks, but had to remind the waiter about the mimosas we had ordered. We ordered our food and waited an hour for it to arrive, then the waiter told us that one of the meals had been overcooked so the kitchen was remaking it. My poor sister waited another half hour for her breakfast sandwich to arrive (by then the rest of us had finished eating). I have to say that my omelette and pancake were delicious, and everyone else was also satisfied with their food. However, an hour long wait (plus an extra half hour for my sister) is a bit ridiculous, especially for brunch. The waiter did take my sister's meal off the bill, as would be expected. Overall, the food was very good but the establishment seemed haphazard and/or understaffed. I'm definitely willing to give Henry's another chance, as this could've just been an off day. read more

Came here on a Monday at 5:15, were greeted promptly, were told there was a 30-45 min wait, we weren't in a rush so we grabbed a drink from the bar and sat outside while waiting for a table. The bartender that served us was very attentive, quick and seemed to genuinely enjoy being there! Around 40 min we were told a table was ready, got pretzels and jalapeño cheese for an app- the cheese wasn't spicy as we anticipated for it being promoted as "jalapeño", but nonetheless, it was warm and still tasty. I got a Turkey Reuben with fries- crispy, hot and delicious, my husband got the crabby Mac- huge portion, very flavorful, cheesy and hot. Our server was Ryan (I believe) he was great, sweet, and persistent with our refills and checking in. Not sure who the other server was- young, female, dark brown hair- but she was hosting and serving and BUSTING HER A**. She wasn't even our server but her hard work cannot go unnoticed. I went here upon recommendation from a friend and was disappointed overall with the experience. The ambience was fine, although the music inside was extremely loud so my group sat outside. It took about 5 minutes of looming by the entrance and being stared at by various waitresses for the bartender to finally tell us to seat ourselves. The food took extremely long to prepare--which was astounding since it was not particularly busy at the restaurant and our dishes were very basic (hamburgers, grilled chicken, etc.). I could have gone to Price Chopper, gotten raw meats and vegetables, and prepared the dishes in less time. When the food finally came, its quality was mediocre at best: there was a general lack of flavor--the food didn't taste bad, it just didn't have any taste at all. My lemon pepper chicken needed ketchup (the only condiment available) to taste like anything. Overall the food wasn't terrible--it just had no redeeming qualities and no flavor. Finally, the service was not good. The waitress appeared at our table infrequently and it took 20 minutes just to pay the check. I would not return to Henry's. The prices seemed reasonable, but there was nothing in the food or service that made the experience worthwhile. read more

Disappointing, to say the least. I had the Rise and Shine, while my friend had the Old Faithful. There was very little bacon on my sandwich and it barely had any maple on it at all (I found a small spot of maple on my broken plate when I was almost finished). As as for the Old Faithful, there was no bacon on the plate at all (it is a part of the menu). We had tried to get the attention of our waitress, but she was too busy playing on her phone to notice. She never came back to ask about our order, so once we finished, we went to the bar to get the bill. The bartender screamed for the waitress and went back into the kitchen to get her. When she came out, she had such an attitude, it was a disgrace. Pretty much threw the check at my friend and walked away. We normally tip at least 20 to 25 percent, but when she chose to keep the coins instead of giving us our full change, we figured that was enough. I have been to Henry's 4 times this summer and am definitely a fan. I have found their servers and bar tenders to be friendly, efficient and accommodating. The food is fairly typical tavern fare but quite good. I highly recommend their Chicken Corn Chowder, Habanero Wings and Chicken Sandwich on Brioche. I also enjoy their beer selection. My wife and I are not big IPA fans and they have a good selection of beers we like on tap. read more

We have never had an issue with Henry's until tonight. We ordered their family meal special that they are offering right now in the midst of this coronavirus outbreak. With your meal, you also get bread & butter, salad, soup, and dessert (or at least that's what they're advertising) for $28. The chicken parm was decent. But the bread was horribly stale. The salad consisted of quite a bit of lettuce that was going bad, and it ended up in the trash. And we didn't receive any dessert at all. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, because I know a lot of local businesses are struggling to make ends meet right now amongst this pandemic. I'm sure they were just trying to get rid of some food. But I definitely wasn't impressed and I think I'll be taking a break from Henry's for quite a while. read more

I'm not a complainer but this place was bad. The hostess didn't even lead us to a table, she just tapped one and we just assumed that it was for us. She didn't get us menus either so i had to snag some from the hostess stand myself. The hostess also seemed in a bad mood (which i understand, everyone has bad days) but it seemed like she was being passive aggressive towards our waitress. The food came very late and was just okay. Henry's is a good looking building in a great location. Unfortunately it's a restaurant in need of much remediation. Let's start with entry: Walking in through the main door, you stand in the main thoroughfare trying to figure out whether to self seat or wait, meanwhile blocking outgoing traffic. A server shortly seats you at a good looking but not totally clean table. The menu is also dirty. Its contents are a bit of a hodgepodge. Do you like cheese and pork? Good, we have them on everything. The server forgets to tell you the specials. They are apparently on a blackboard somewhere not totally out of sight. You decide to play it safe and try fish and chips because that can't be screwed up, right? And you need to play safe after the impression gained from the first 5 minutes' experience. The fish batter is soggy with grease. Forget putting it on paper after it gets out of the fryer. Use the fries to do that. And forget using fresh fish. I was sick most of the day after. Not food poisoning mind you, rather, that kind of bad stomach feeling that makes you want to hold off eating for several meals. A complete failure. read more

So my boyfriend and I were excited to finally get to check out Henry's since we both love a good pub atmosphere. This past Saturday we went in around 8pm and it was small and cute with some live music playing and moderately crowded. Seemed like the perfect setting although there was no hostess/server available to tell us if we could take a table or not. We ended up getting 2 seats at the bar (which happened to be wet and dirty), so being an ex-bartender I took a few bev naps and wiped it up while we sat and waited....and waited....and waited.... Now there was a lively group down one end of the small bar, but 3 bartenders behind the bar. Not ONE of them put a napkin down in front of us, said hello, or even so much as looked our way. We waited almost 10 minutes and had to call it. We aren't usually so dramatic but what a bad first impression for a new bar. To add fuel to the fire we ended up seeing one of the bartenders who was behind the bar as we waited, outside smoking a cigarette. Nice. We ended up around the corner at the Brickyard Tavern where we had excellent service provided by a single bartender taking care of a bar 3x the size of Henry's. Oh noo! Reviewed too soon! Went to Henry's for the second time and was really disappointed. Evidently they were short staffed so it took almost 5 minutes for a server to greet us, then in top of that I think I could have gotten a better salad entrée from Hannafords. If you want the details, keep reading, but the gist is that this place need to get it together a little. Avocado is tricky, open too soon and you get a green rock, open too late and you'll be eating brown mush. I ordered a Cobb Salad and the avocado (which is what makes it a Cobb) was a strange, rubbery, un-ripened, green mango. And the four tomato halves and some blue cheese wasn't going to make up for this. I never take anything back, but it was clear the avocado was sliced earlier in the day, so I asked for fresh slices. Our server brought over more of this ripe-looking, yet rotten fruit, which was inedible. Between the wait to be seated and this generic salad I have changed my rating from 5 stars to 3. Owner of Henry's, if you don't want to serve salad as an entree, don't put it on the menu. When someone takes a meal back, please either offer a new dish or send a manager out. Review from 5/2015: Just opened a little over a month ago, and it was a great experience for us. The Green Goddess sandwich was unique and perfect, the fish and chips were very good. Everything was great here! Good service, good food! My parents were in town and we came to visit Ballston Spa to looks at antiques. I skipped reviews and we came in based on menu choice. My dad had the burger and really enjoyed it, the fries, while frozen, were still cooked well. My mom and I each had the soup of the day, sausage and potatoe, and it was awesome! She had the Rueben and liked it (although wishes it had fresh corned beef), and I had the turkey and cranberry sandwich, which I really enjoyed. We also got the Irish fries which were enjoyable, and different from normal. We were too full to get dessert, but the dessert selection looked awesome!! The very sweet waitress offered to get the dessert for us to go, but we couldn't. It was a weekday at lunch so the atmosphere was nice. The good: Somebody clearly put a lot of work into making Henry's a clean, nice place. It is a great addition to Front Street in Ballston Spa, and a huge improvement over the former retail waste of space in the perfectly-located building. The food was good - not outstanding but perfectly good. The bad: For a small tavern, the live music is INCREDIBLY LOUD, and takes up much of (what would be) the best seating area. It is hard to move through the space, to the point that you might not find it worth the effort to get to the bathroom, and just wait until you get home. Small, crowded and LOUD. Unless you like choosing from maybe 6 or 8 expensive Belgian beers, you probably won't enjoy the bar selection. What happened to normal beer at a corner tavern? Ballston Spa does not need a place that specializes in $9 Belgian Wheat beers. But I hope they do very well. Ballston Spa is better with Henry's than without it. I just wish they would get rid of the live (LOUD) music when it is busy, and maybe bring the beer prices down a buck or two by offering more non-craft-beers. read more
