We were excited to return to Herbies after we had the lamb burgers on the Wild home opener this year, but Wow I will not be back. I ordered the herbie burger, medium, with a slice of cheddar. Simple, right? Our server left us alone for 25 min, forgot to check on us when we wanted additional beers, and forgot to bring the beers once we ordered them. It took 40 min to get one burger, and when we finally got it, it was well done, dry and with no cheese. This was the simplest order in history - a beer, and a burger. And they couldn't get it right. We were late for the wild game we would be attending, but couldn't pay for our meal until we heard an exceptionally long story from our waiter about his 6 daughters, him growing up as an only child with no father. How rude - you destroy my experience and then beg me for a tip with a sob story? I couldn't even believe it. He put in absolutely no effort until we pulled out our wallets. Sat at the bar on a not-particularly-busy evening. As others have mentioned, service came at a glacial pace, as in about an hour and a half (for someone who wasn't intending to spend the entire evening there). The space is beautiful and it's in a nice location (albeit parking is a pain unless you want to use their $10 valet); the food was serviceable but unmemorable. Wings were ok, burger was ok, dessert (apple crisp) was actually pretty tasty. Decently high price point, which is not totally unexpected or unreasonable given the location. Went here before the Prince Tribute show in October. Sat at the bar. Ordered two drinks and asked for a menu. Got menu. Finished our two drinks. Ignored the entire time after we got the first round of drinks. Ignored. Never checked on. Rude bar staff. Sat at seats for 35 straight minutes and not a single person checked on us or asked to take our order. Turned into a waiting contest. Herbies won. We paid $22 for the Grey Goose Martini and Grey Goose soda and left. Bar staff didn't care. Main guy arrogantly gave us a look that we were an inconvenience to him. Every opportunity I get to NOT suggest this place I will seize. Avoid Herbies. Your hard earned money is better spent elsewhere. A stale hot dog at the Xcel and warm Bud light are better options. read more

We went here for the first time last Friday night for dinner. First off, what a great location and the space is beautiful. Awesome bar, the fireplace is huge, and the feel is very rich. Second, it wasn't very busy so we got a nice table by the fire. We had deviled eggs for an app which I love and theirs were delish. I had the signature mushroom bisque and it was wonderful. We both had good meals, and the pumpkin spice creme' brûlée was good. The service was also good and so we will go back and also recommend giving it a try. I usually look for the good in any place and am easy to forgive shortcomings but this place was terrible. I want to save people from spending money here it is not worth it. Cons: slow inattentive service, over priced drinks (cocktails and wine came with tiny pours) very expensive pricing on the food (did not actually get to try the food as staff blundered the order), staff that did not communicate what was going on (blunder with food order, made no attempt to rectify situation) the staff continued to use the fact that they were new for all the issues, once or twice fine, but I have to believe you've bartended before at some point - should not be making the simple mistakes. Pros: beautiful space, decent TV's and nice location although none of these things can make up for such a terrible experience from the staff. I would NOT recommend this place - Saint Paul has so many awesome options, do yourself a favor and skip Herbies. read more

First time here tonight and the food was a homerun. I had the lobster wedge salad with green goddess dressing. It was delicious and a pretty healthy portion of lobster which is great because it wasn't cheap. The ladies both ordered the lemon chicken sandwich and loved it. Real handcut fries that were tastyvas well. The place also is really nicely decorated. Definitely has an upscale feel to it. We also love supporting their awesome assistant general manager Brent. We went last night before a show at the Ordway. Terrific location for that. Our waiter was a friendly and very polite guy. House wine was good. I ordered the Cobb salad and my wife the Chicken sandwich with asparagus. I just read the review of someone who also had the Cobb salad and the kind apology of the manager. Well - believe me - nothing has changed. I got a small (dinner side salad size) salad. What was also really disappointing was the quality of the lettuce! Like a bag of lettuce salad from Cub that had been left out all day. Barely any blue cheese and the egg you normally get with Cobb? A poached egg on the top of a piece of bread with some drizzle over it. Sorry - your "cute" presentation doesn't make this a $13 salad. My wife's sandwich was tasty. And getting the waiter's attention for a second beverage was a challenge. I won't be back. read more

We ordered the wings, which was a pretty small portion for the price. The lobster roll tasted dry and bland. The roast chicken was also seasoned sparingly. Went to Herbies On the Park for lunch with my friend. We both ordered off the lunch special menu which was a starter and an entree for $15. For my starter, I ordered the fig toast and she ordered the Mushroom Bisque Soup. We, of course, split them to try some of each. The fig toast was the right balance of fig spread, balsamic and crostini. The Mushrooms soup was so creamy and delicious. For the entree, I ordered the Duck salad and she ordered Lemon Chicken sandwich with the side salad. They were both hearty portions. The Duck Salad was shredded duck with greens, goat cheese, and beets with a vinaigrette. My friend had never had duck and she loved it. The Lemon Chicken sandwich had a creamy artichoke spread on it that we loved. This has now become THE place where will we meet for lunch. read more

When this place first opened we absolutely loved it. It has been in a steady decline ever since. We came last summer and some of the food was inedible. It's been a while and we opted to give them another chance. We stopped in Feb 16th before the home and patio show. Our experience was even worse than the last time. Lets, start with the drinks. We love and appreciate good drinks. We also expect a certain standard when we are paying 10-15$ per drink. we first ordered Old Fashioneds. The bartender spilled simple syrup all over the of the outside of our glasses. The ice was just regular bar ice. The drink was mediocre, at best. I've had better at Wisconsin backwoods supper clubs. Our next round, we opted for a blue cheese olive Martini and some rosemary concoction. The martini arrived with plain olives and when I asked the server, he disappeared for over 15 minutes and came back with blue cheese olives. When he returned, I pointed out that the other drink was missing the rosemary. Again, he disappeared for an inappropriate amount of time and returned with a lame apology and stated that he knew the drink was supposed to have it originally but decided to serve it to us regardless without bothering to mention it was missing ingredients. I need to say this drink also arrived with the most off-putting ice cube I have ever been served. The food. Also, mediocre at best. At least this time it was edible. Sad to say, we've given this place a second chance and it failed miserably. We will never be back. Not when you can go across the park to the St. Paul Hotel or Meritage and get the level of quality and service a person would expect. read more

My fiance and I took my parents here for a nice dinner while they were in town for Thanksgiving weekend. The food was decent. However, my stepdad's meal was not good, at all. He got the filet. He didn't say anything throughout the whole meal about how bad the filet was. As he was finishing his side the waitress came over and told him that they took $25 off his meal because the filet was not up to the standards that they normally follow. When she walked away I asked him how it was since he didn't say anything. He said it was the worst filet he's ever had. It was SUPER gristly and I looked at his plate and he had a few chucks of gristle that he wasn't even able to chew threw. I'm glad that they acknowledged that the meat was bad and cut the price in half...but why would they even send it out in the first place if they knew it was bad?? Makes no sense. If the waitress had just told him that what they had left was not up to their standards, he would have been more than ok ordering something different rather than having a crappy meal. read more

Great atmosphere, great service. Perfect location for an Ordway show! Food was hit or miss. My roast chicken was awesome. The short ribs were too salty. Walleye cake appetizer was amazing. Goat cheese cheesecake was more savory than sweet, with a stale crust, and I didn't care for it at all. I would go back, but I would try a few other entrees though. read more

Tried lunch before a dinner to get a taste and feel for the place. Disappointed in the bland, nicely restored interior. Rather non descriptive and no visible memorabilia in site tied to the name. The two tops chairs are a climbing adventure and I'm 6'-2" tall. The service was ... well it sucked. So slow in response that a one lunch literally took two hours. We prodded the server for quicker turn around to no avail. The food was ... below average. Ham & cheese with French onion soup was seriously flawed. Small panini squares toasted but ice cold was overwhelmed by some type of mustard that killed the taste buds. The French onion soup was lukewarm with unmelted provolone cheese atop a rock hard, float piece of day old baguette. The sand which was served on a left over wood shop project plate that showed heavy serrated cut marks and frayed raised wood. Water came without ice and the Arnie Palmer was brown, unsweetened lemon juice, too bitter to drink, too small and in glassware that appeared to be from a garage sale. My lunch mate had a burger that was overdone on a dried bun slathered in a concoction that literally dripped onto the table from the entire circumference of the burger. The "great fries" the server christened were over done, over salted and cooled to the point of abandonment when served. We tried the apple crisp for dessert. Undercooked apples, too much Carmel drizzle and an ice cream that could not have bean the Izzies Vanilla Bean as listed on the menu, more like a commercial Blue Bunny or something. Won't go back. Too expensive, poor service, below average food and zero atmosphere. read more

If you are at Rivercentre for a conference this is a great mid scale lunch stop. Service was top notch and the menu was just the right size and selection. Atmosphere reminds me of a modern private dining club with wood panel walls and high wood beamed ceilings. The muscles were a great light choice as well as a cup of their signature soup. The three large flat TVs seemed a bit out of place but I'm sure serve a great purpose during sporting events. read more

I've been to Herbie's twice. The food, the cocktails, and the service are all excellent and definitely in the top tier of Twin Cities options. Don't mistake this place for a fancy sports bar. It is a world class restaurant. I had the Halibut for dinner which was perfect. The lobster wedge was a filling and delicious take on the wedge salad. The lobster portion was generous and fit well with the salad. The cocktails are better than you'll get anywhere in town. This is a perfect place for a nice dinner out or a drink and meal before the game or theater. It is a great addition to downtown St Paul. read more

We got reservations to eat here before the Dallas Stars and Wild game on Saturday. We got there at 5:00 and it was packed. We were given the option of a dinner or bar table. We chose a bar table window spot facing Rice Park. We had one of their signature mules and a gin and tonic, both were good. We then ordered the deviled eggs and the trout on toast for apps. The eggs were amazing and have bacon on top, num! The trout was good besides the weird lemon drizzle sauce on top. We decided to share a salad and an entree because the portions were pretty big per the waitress. We chose the braised duroc pork shank and the cauliflower salad. The waitress told us the pork shank was "Viking sized" and boy was she spot on! It was HUGE! It comes with these creamy, garlicky cheese grits and root vegetables that are all equally amazing. The cauliflower salad was also huge and super yummy! My husband who doesn't love salads loved this one and said he'd order it again! The service was spot on and the service is very quick if you get your order in promptly after arriving. Plus if you want the chance at seeing a Wild player or the coach then go in after a game sometime. The restaurant is below the MN Wild headquarters and extra locker rooms. I was incredibly disappointed. After reading generally positive reviews, I figured this would be a great place to eat before a concert. I was wrong. The universal consensus from our table was that everything was, at best, "ok." The presentation of the food was excellent. Unfortunately, the taste was not. At the prices Herbie's charges, you expect a quality experience. I ordered the Herbie Burger. It was a bland patty with lettuce and tomatoes that belonged on a Five Guys burger. The bun was equally disappointing. The other dishes were just as lackluster. Any other restaurant in the area offers better food at about the same price, if not less expensive. The location is great and the service was fine. If you want good food, go somewhere else. I will not be back. read more

On Saturday evening we order the Lobster Roll and was extremely disappointed with the dish. It was a combo of some mystery fish and a few pieces of Lobster claw meat. Saturday night, went to Herbies on the Park, next to the Ordway. We were going to the opera, 'Dinner At Eight' at 7:30. Made a 6:15 reservation and arrived 20 minutes early. Seated at 6:00, so we had an hour and 15 minutes. Not enough time, I guess. We get seated at a high top next to the bathrooms and the checkin desk of the hotel lobby! Now, I had planned on shelling out a good $175 minimum for dinner, so I was kind of put off. My boyfriend got his drink right away, mine... 30 minutes. At that point I told the waiter we were leaving at 7:15. He took the rest of our order. We had ordered a starter when we ordered our drinks, but it hadn't arrived. 6:45 I get my a salad, but where is the starter? He tells me he always serves the salad before the starter? On what planet? His. Starter arrives at 7:05. I am livid. I tell the woman who brings us the starter to cancel our entrees, as we are leaving in ten minutes and bring me the bill immediately. She apologizes and says she will send the manager over. 7:20, waiter comes by with bill saying he was told we had our entrees. I lose it. I bark at him that we canceled them and that they needed to be taken off the bill and I needed it done NOW. 7:25 - I pay the bill. We get a $4.04 credit! Manager NEVER talks to us. What the???? All this, given that the table next to us had no reservation, seated themselves, got two rounds, starter, salads, and entrees, all of which was consumed BEFORE we left. Also, an elderly couple, who got seated at a decent table managed the same - and they were seated 15 minutes AFTER we were. Did I mention the dinner salad had little stars of BLACK LICORIOUS in it? Hard as a rock. The lobster toast, our 'starter', consisted of two crostini's with a pile of cold lobster salad on top of it (ie - something that takes minutes for the kitchen to push out, because the lobster salad is premade). Still cost us 47 bucks. Did I mention the hockey Moms and Dads milling about stealing tables and standing next to our table as they talked loudly and drank their beers? Yeah. That was fun. Herbies at the Park... not a fine dining experience, by any stretch of the imagination. read more

We had some kids accompanied by adults waiting in the lobby when someone in the front rudely kept trying to kick us out. She said we needed to order food or drinks (which we already did). Then when we said we already ordered drinks, she said, "Two out of fourteen isn't good enough." We went straight to the bar and weren't seated at the table so did she expect us to buy alcoholic beverages for the kids? Very disappointed in the salad. I ordered the Cobb salad for $14. What I received was a small rounded cup of lettuce with drenched in blue cheese and too much dressing. I found ONE tiny hard piece of bacon not quite the size of a dime on the whole presentation that was as hard as a piece of beef jerky. My co-worker next to me ordered a side salad with her salmon burger and her salad was larger than mine. I was with a group of 18 co-workers for a special celebration lunch. I tried to quietly comment to the server that I was disappointed in the size of the salad. She said they get complaints all the time but the management has decided that's what they want. I asked if she thought it was too small and she said, "I agree" and walked away. People who ordered the burgers seemed to really enjoy their meal and left the lunch with enough to eat. They didn't even acknowledge her birthday upon looking at her ID or even after I told them it was her birthday. I understand that when you go to a restaurant you pay for the experience and the food. Big fan of the upscale Tavern feel. Atmosphere is a complete fit with historic downtown St. Paul. I have had the opportunity to eat at Herbie's several times and have loved everything so far. Terrible service. We had tickets for a show at 7:30 on a Sunday night and thought that 5:30 reservations at Herbies would give us more than enough time. As it turned out, our food came at 7:25 and we were late to our show. Our waiter seemed to avoid us to the point where we were wondering if we did something to tick him off. We were lucky to get 2 drinks during the 2 hours that we were there. They were out of my first beer choice and out of another's first food choice. The food was ok at best, but it's hard to tell since we had to eat it so fast. I felt it was overpriced for what you got. We won't be coming back and a I doubt that the other 3 couples that we were with, will either. Too bad because it's a great location and facility. read more

The atmosphere is very cosmopolitan - like a NY or Boston type bar/restaurant. The food is excellent. Cocktails are good, but could use a little more inventiveness maybe? I have gone several times before and after Wild games now. The first time I went the service was slow because it was right when they opened and I don't think they anticipated as large of an opening crowd maybe, but they have gotten much better since then. The egg cobb salad is amazing. I will continue make this a frequent stop while in Saint Paul - likely once a week. It's worth it! read more

Service was terrible. Taking in to account the place just opened and the systems are new, the service and management's lack of response to an obvious horrible experience was frustrating at the least. It took 40 plus minutes for everyone at our table to get a drink. We didn't even have water. After an agonizing 3 hour ordeal it took 40 minutes to get our checks. Management didn't come over to apologize or at the very least keep us in the loop as to why it was taking so long. I could write much more but, don't want to waste anymore time on this place. read more
