I always enjoy a good doughnut shop and I doughnut food truck is just an added bonus! I ran into Herb'n Donuts at the Quartyard in East Village San Diego and I had already eaten but was looking forward to something sweet so I ordered the gluten free doughnut holes with a side of sage and passion fruit sauce. The order came with six holes with a nice amount of granulated sugar and a touch of cinnamon. As gluten free products go, these doughnut were quite successful. They were slightly doughy, which I don't mind at all, but for the moist part they were soft, moist, and fluffy pillows of goodness. They came with a great light brown color on the outside and with a golden light color on the inside. Passion fruit and sage sauce was the perfect partner for these little pillows of heaven. The sauce was full flavored passion fruit with overtones of sage. I liked that it was not overly sweet and offered a good creamy viscosity that coated the doughnut holes well after dipping. I might be the only non-friend / family member to write a review for this truck. The owner is a very passionate guy, but perhaps he needs to work on his business model if he wants to survive the competitive food truck business. The compelling reason to try this truck are their yogurt donut balls (Yo-Nuts). But it's their homemade sauces that separate themselves from other trucks. The main problem with Herb'n donuts is that they don't really sell sheets of donuts. They sell either donut holes or a large donut that's gussied up like a gourmet burger. Their individual donuts are yeast made and are not flavorful, but they put a lot of toppings on/inside. At $7-8 bucks each it's not really worth it. Back to the Yo-Nuts. Those are incredible and with their sauces, they'll make you want to follow this truck. - Everything is made to order. That's generally not good for a food truck. Food truck connoisseurs want interesting food, fast. It's okay to do prep work and have some stuff ready to go. - They need to focus on those Yo-Nuts ans sauces... That's the winner. read more

Stood in the sun with my kids after ordering a hamburger and two berries and cream while watching them serve four groups that ordered after us to find out they lost our order. I had the gluten free donut holes, made with the greek yogurt because frankly, I didn't understand how one makes donut holes out of yogurt. The donut holes themselves were really tasty and flavorful, but the selling points are definitely the donut hole sauces. You can tell they are freshly made and created by the chef of the food truck. ZERO STARS. ZERO. i've worked and dealt with a lot of food companies and this company by far was the worst one yet. They showed up to our event over an HOUR late. They were supposed to be at our location by 5:15 and didn't show up until 6:30, which is when our employees were supposed to be eating! The owner gave us a wonderful menu with what seemed delicious. But when they got to our location the menu the owner gave us was false. Our menu offered the strawberries and creme donut and the workers claimed they never served anything with strawberries. The breakfast burritos were literally just egg with tiny bits of bacon. no cheese. no potatoes. To top it all off, they ran out of supplies and had to go get more. The entire time the workers were giving us excuses as to why they weren't prepared. The workers blaming the owner, the owner blaming the workers. If i were you i wouldn't use this company for any type of special events. They clearly have NO idea how to run a business when more than one customer comes up to order. Would not recommend read more

Absolutely delicious! The YoNuts were unreal--a crispy, cinnamon sugar outside with melt-in-your-mouth, gluten-free deliciousness inside! Dipping them into the sea salt caramel was the best. As if they weren't enough, we also ordered the Brie, Apricot Jam and Almond donut sandwich and the chocolate brownie donut. The donuts are not glazed so you can actaully enjoy the bread texture and flavor, also not greasy! I'm definitely looking forward to tracking them down again! I saw the review with two stars and I felt like that was incredibly harsh based on the experience I had. As someone who has grieved for years, not being able to eat a donut because of a gluten allergy, I was nothing short of ECSTATIC when I came across this truck! I wasn't sure what to expect, as most gluten free donuts are super cake-y and not airy (like those ones you find at 6:30 in the morning before everyone wakes up with the sprinkles...my fave!). To my surprise these yo-nuts were awesome! I'm not sure what recipe they use but they've nailed it. No one would suspect that they were gluten free with how fluffy these are. Definitely WORTH IT! I'm not a huge fan of dipping sauces for most of my desserts or beignets...I'm kind of a purist, so I'm not a good judge on the sauces. Horrible service and food. My company had ordered this food truck to serve our entire branch (about 80 people) breakfast before a meeting. A number of things that went wrong: 1. Food Truck Was Late- everyone was standing outside in the cold morning air waiting to eat! 2. They Ran Out of Food- they had to run to store to get tortillas! 3. The Menu The Owner Gave Us Was Not What Was Served - breakfast burrito only had eggs and bacon (this is California, that is not a breakfast nor a burrito) - Yonuts didn't have bacon in them, which according to the menu we were given was supposed to have. It was basically just a donut hole with a teaspoon of yogurt in it. 4. The Coffee Was Served Out Of A Home Depot Water Container - I felt really uneasy drinking out of that as I'm sure the heat from the coffee is melting the plastic. Sure enough, I googled Home Depot's water containers and they "do not recommend using any types of hot liquids in our coolers". 5. Food Presentation- After looking at the photos on this Yelp page, it's like an entirely different food truck, none of our food looked like this. In conclusion, I WOULD NOT RELY ON THIS FOR A LARGE PARTY. Words cannot describe the deliciousness of this little morsel! My clients raved that this was THE best donut they had ever tasted (and gluten free)!
