This review is about the car repair side of the business, not the used car sales. I have taken my cars to Arman for over 15 years now. The shop is extremely clean, Arman and his son Daron are very knowledgeable, professional, and courteous, and there is a nice waiting area. For me, they rate "5 stars" in two important areas: 1. Complete and honest estimates, and 2. An absolute willingness to get it right no matter what. I tend to keep my cars a long time (the current one has 185k miles on it!) Arman will always give me a diagnosis, and then list in order of importance what needs to be done. "Karyl, you need the new brakes now. You will need new tires in 3 months. Your battery is probably another 3 months." I love the honesty and the way he helps me plan for what I will need to pay for. I have had some repair challenges, to be fair. There are always going to be times where you get your car fixed, you leave the shop, and at some inopportune time in the next few days, the car breaks down. Or starts making "the noise" again. It is these times that define a mechanic. Whenever I have brought my car back in, just driving in the shop a day or two after I left there, Arman or Daron will see me coming and run out of the shop to me, looks of concern on their faces. They truly seem upset that I was inconvenienced by having to come back a second time, and it always fixed for free, even if what is wrong now wasn't part of the original problem. I always try to be brutally honest in my Yelp reviews, and I need to tell the reader that I now consider Arman a dear friend. I do believe there is room for improvement at Herb's Garage; where isn't there? They could be a bit more accurate with their time estimates ("your car is ready now" is code for "leave your house in a hour and it will be ready when you get here".) And culturally I do think there are some miscues. I have observed Arman give someone a huge compliment and the person gets a glazed look on his face; I don't think his accent is always understood. And I know he is a big fat flirt on the outside, but he is also married for forever and would not put his business at risk or his son in an uncomfortable situation in the workplace. Solution? When you take your car to Herb's Garage, tell them everything you want and what your budget is. When they tell you the car will be done at 2pm, show up at 3pm. And realize joking and accent aside, Arman knows what he is doing AND has one of the biggest hearts I have ever met. Wow...What A Awesome place. I drove my 2000 Chrysler Seabring into This place and spoke to Arman about the repairs i would need to make my car work and keep up with my hetic driving due to work. After going over the car they told me it would cost alot to get my car going again. i really am not good at keeping good cars..lol....I was really bummed I just got a divorce and had bad credit and now a crappy car I didnt really want anymore. To my suprise Arman and Daron told me they had a solution for me. The walked me out back and showed my 20 cars they had for sale. It was a great experience finding someone who took the time to show me around even with my crappy credit. I tried a couple different cars and Finally found a nice toyota camary. It was was a great 4 passenger car with super low miles. I said no way i could afford this. Low and behold Milt the Car manager came out and told me not to worry. Long story short. I got rid of my crappy car and now am driving a new to me toyota. My payments were very resonable and they got me approved in less than 30 mins when other dealers couldn't. I can't begin to explain how AMAZING this shop was to me!!! I got an oil change a week prior at a shop( that I will not name) in Lancaster. That shop did not put my splash guard back on correctly. I had training for my job over 100 miles away. Unfortunately, due to their mishap I ended up trailing this without even knowing. So, 15 minutes before closing hours of most shops including where I purchased my car(Honda) no one could help me! My last attempt at getting this rectified was Jiffy Lube who had closed their doors before the stated closing time. I was sitting in my car about to cry, when low and behold across from Jiffy Lube was Herbs Garage! Take for granted they were closed too when I pulled up, yet they opened their doors to " Help Me" when they could have turned me away....I'm still at awe of their helpfulness last night! I started going to this garage about 1 year ago. I myself was a mechanic in the military and I am very familiar with vehicle repairs. My first visit was when my transmission was leaking after I had it "rebuilt" by another mechanic. My first impression was that they were very genuine and friendly they took my truck immediately, put it in the air and found that the bolts were loose at the Transmission and engine. They fixed it and did an inspection and brought to my attention other issues that would need repair in the future, total cost $40. Since then they have worked on my wife's vehicle and my truck and have always charged a very fair rate and excellent customer service. You will quickly become "family" with this garage. Armann, Darren, Robert and "Mikey"and the other mechanics are good people. I highly recommend. read more

For a family owned business this garage takes the cake! I've been to many many places that say they're "family owned" and that "we'll treat you like family!" But at Armans when they say that they're going to treat you like family they really do! They're honest and trustworthy people and their mechanics are amazing. Darron has an amazing go-getter and up-beat attitude about him all the time and Arman is an amazing man himself. My family and I have been loyal customers for years, in fact, we even bought one of our cars from here. I like knowing that I can have a peace of mind when I take my car to Arman for repairs. They don't rip anyone off, they're fair with their prices, and they try and get the job done as quickly and correctly as possible. I honestly wouldn't trust any other garage with my car. read more

Yes, Copilot wholeheartedly endorsed them, placed them at the top when it comes to foreign engines and and helped me find the best people to consul about repairs to my car. Several friendly, knowledgeable experts there specialize in different areas...there is the diagnostic magician, the oil leak expert, the electronic expert, the air condition expert, the whole engine expert and Alex in the front office who has his customer's best interests at heart. He is bent on keeping up the tradition of his late grandpa who built a solid, trustworthy reputation for Herb's Garage by taking special care of his customers. As I said...six stars! read more

I had another review but it was from a while ago. It was also 5 stars. This is 03/27/13. I hadn't been to Herbs Garage for awhile. I have a Toyota Camry with 132,000 and it doesn't need a lot of repair. But I noticed a noise when I started the car. So I took it in. Herbs Garage showed me the broken motor mount. He said it would be about 2 hrs to repair, replace the valve cover gasket and do an oil change. It was done in one hour. The cost $185. Darren is good, he's very reasonable and he's a nice guy. I recommend them hightly. In the past I've taken my Camry to Toyota dealship and they charge an arm and a leg to repair. I'll bet this would be $600 or more at Toyota. I know absolutely nothing about cars, so when my car broke down I didn't really know what to do. Luckily, a friend of mine had come here before and assured me I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. Turns out she was right! I've never felt more comfortable leaving my car anywhere else, the best part was the honesty. Going there stressed and unsure whether or not my car was ok, they assured me of the problem, and spoke so kindly and genuinely. I came to them and they did what they needed to do, I was in and out and left very happy with the work they had done and have had no problems. I found this place through yelp. First I had gone to the nissan dealership for my 60k service. After I realized I couldn't afford the amount of services needed on my car. I decided to get a second opinion, so I went on yelp and found herbs garage. I called and set an appointment to get my car service. I was instantly approached with good customer service by a gentleman name Daron. He told me it would be ready in a few hours and realized half the things the dealer recommended weren't needed. After picking up my car and driving it felt like a brand new car. I would totally recommend any friends and family to herbs garage. I would recommend asking for Daron. So grateful to have found this place. They are very knowledgeable, courteous, and HONEST. I love that. I've dealt both with the father and the son. I've been more than pleased every time. Never been shaken down for cash. Never felt coerced or mislead. In fact, this is the first car repair business that has ever called to really inquire about my level of satisfaction... and to ask how my car was driving. Follow-ups, transparency, the fact that the workers seem happy... all this matters to me. Even if I move away from the area, I will likely be a repeat customer for a long time to come. I was very satisfied with the service I recieved. I wasn't charged to find out what the issue was. I was quoted a price based on an observation that it looked like a pressure hose was damaged and that I would need to get it replaced. I left my car overnight and when I picked it up the next day I was told that the hose was fine and i just needed new seals. Because of this, the price ended up being about 100 dollars less than estimated. Being that they could have easily charged me for the part with me being none the wiser and instead they were honest with me, they will always have my business. He posted a negative review on yelp for my business, which he has never been a customer of. He continuously called me and left me threatening messages to the point where I had to contact the sheriff's department to restrain him from contacting me further. Buyer Beware of this place.I was a loyal customer ( not for any reason other than local) to Arman's Auto/Herbs garage until he completely lost my trust, my business and my friends' business. He took my car in estimated it at about $100.00 which turned into 2800.00 plus, then the cost to fix it correctly at Advantage Auto in Costa Mesa which is just around the corner. I have taken him to small claims,unfortunately he lied about all of our interactions and falsified documents. Buyer definitely beware of this place. Poor workmanship, poor ethics. You usually have small items that you want them fixed but keep forgetting to tell. Don't worry they find them and fix them before you even tell them. They act cool and don't brag about it and don't charge you for it. You later find out that its fixed already!!! They deliver a fully repaired, tested, cleaned, fresh smelling car every time!!. Desperate for an oil change, I should've known better when they had time for me here. Charged more than anywhere else for any oil change ever, wasn't consulted about the cost beforehand, they said they'd call when my car was ready, over an hour later still hadn't, when I got there there was no one to take my payment. Place is disorganized and unprofessional. I won't be going back, but they did change the oil. Ignore this place and move along to Harbor Auto Center around the corner. They're much cheaper, better service, and worth the wait. read more

I took my car here for the first time per a recommendation from my brother. I needed to get my catalytic converter replaced as well as a new seal for my transmission along with some other minor things. They were very easy to deal with, transparent, and got my car fixed, smogged, and back to me in only a few days. It was very quick and painless and I felt as if they were very honest and cared about my car as much as I did. Will definitly be bringing my car back here for future repairs. read more
