I was called to make payment over the phone, and my order arrived on time. We ordered three flavors: strawberry, cookies and cream, and butter pecan. They were all yummy. Over the summer when it opened, I stopped by a couple of times to try something new and to support a business with a great story. With the change in the weather I was left to be optimistic from afar. Recently I decided to get some ice cream for the crib and instead of buying it from the grocery store like I had done, I decided to see if Here's The Scoop sold half-gallons. They don't but they do have pints and honestly, that's even better for my health. What I don't think I saw last time was vegan options which I did see on this visit. I didn't buy any but that is good to know. I also see that they now make milkshakes which I don't ever see myself buying but it is a step toward an expanded menu which should hold it down during the winter months. My favorite ice cream shop in Petworth/Park View/Northwest DC. I love getting cookie dough with hot fudge. Staff is extremely friendly, and will explain the flavors if you ask. I think they have about 10 different flavors, plus a few different toppings and sauces to make this a successful ice cream run. Read an article a while ago about how this was a new Black-, woman-owned business and finally got to check it out. Great ice cream and service! The ice creams are interesting flavors and have good "chunks" in them (one of my favorite parts). They even have some vegan flavors I was tempted to get even though I'm not a vegan myself. It's not far from Howard U. or some of the other restaurants on Georgia Ave, so it's a great place to go grab dessert! Luckily this place is a short walk from Malcolm X and closer to home than Jubilee so we decided to check it out. Was in the area for HU Homecoming.. had recently seen some article about a new black owned ice cream shop that had opened recently somewhere in DC.. as i was waiting on food from Sweetpea's, the name of this spot rang a bell. This was it! Good on them for snagging this pretty prime location. Greeted immediately on entering by some kind woman behind the counter who also offered a sample.. i went for the southern peach, she watched my facial expression light up after that taste.. i needed look no further.. silky delicately flavored peach ice cream with chunks of peach in it. Here is my review: Everything about this shop is a cool slice of heaven in a hot summer's day. There is delicious sorbet, ice cream, cobbler, cupcakes, and pie for you to eat and the staff is happy to provide samples. The desserts are great, but the workers' personalities are the sweetest parts. They all have a meet-you-at-the-door style of greeting and genuinely desire to have a meaningful conversation with folks. I had to try Here's The Scoop after reading an article about it being the first black female-owned ice cream shop in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of DC. CONGRATS! It's a cute little spot on Georgia Avenue that sells a variety of cookies, pies, cobblers, and cakes, in addition to several flavors of ice cream and milkshakes. Despite the variety of desserts, Here's The Scoop doesn't really stand out as a go-to place for ice cream. It's location on a busy street makes parking difficult and the shop itself is really small with only a few outdoor seats. I ordered vanilla ice cream on a sugar cone and a cupcake. Again, nothing really stood out. Go support, but don't expect to be blown away by their "premium" ice cream and desserts. read more

They let in one customer at a time so in that regard I felt very safe, and one of the things I noticed right off the bat is how clean and inviting the storefront is. For our first visit my partner and I were impressed at how genuinely kind and accommodating the staff were--all of whom were mostly likely students. I got an Oreo sundae and my partner got a banana split, both of which were absolutely delicious and perfect for a 99° day. We got a banana pudding and red velvet cupcake to-go which were also amazing. I love how this spot has become such a mainstay in the Howard-area community and always look to support Black Woman-owned establishments. Location Conveniently located on Georgia, across from Bodymass gym and half block from NuVegan, it offers just what the block needs to satisfy your sweet tooth! Desserts We came w our kids and got birthday cake ice cream (my husband really loved this even though we got it for the kids), moose tracks (hubs didn't taste the peanut butter in it so he would pass on it), peach (I loved this! It was a fresh subtle flavor that wasn't crazy sweet- it was perfect), sorbet, pound cake (didn't try this yet), and salted cookie (buttery and tasty- like a pretzel). Service Gentleman at the door was super nice and prompt attention by the other gentleman serving the ice cream. They were great. The girls at the register were on their phones like they were on break. For a place open for a month so far, you would think everyone behind the counter would be friendly and enthusiastic so it was disappointing that there was this cold aloofness behind the register Aesthetics The hand written sign that states their open hours and the weird lopsided paper maiche icecream cone up front almost turned me off from coming in but I'm glad I did. The ice cream is ridiculously good. The desserts are off the chain. The energy in the shop is amazing because the staff is super cool. And it takes a lot of patience and personality to serve as many people as I see go in there! I think it starts with Ms. Sellers.
