My friend and I popped into try this new place for a late lunch. We had no problem getting a table but we had to clear it as it was previously left with trays on. No problem- we set them aside which was cleaned half way through our meal. We ordered at the counter- the girl was very accommodating to our requests. Gave us an extra bowl as we wanted to share but didn't think to give us a knife to cut the single order bao. Menu has a good selection from rice bowls and baos to crepes. Been here twice, tried most things on their menu. Their sides are pretty good especially the matcha buns. Their bowls however .... The bowls look and taste like a random combination of ingredients that don't go well together at all. I don't like to waste food, but I couldn't bear to finish my pork belly bowl. What's more, this place has a food court style where you pay up front and you get your food and sit down. At the end you need to bring all your plates and cups to the garbage can and sort your half eaten food accordingly. Really awful that the grease goes straight through their togo containers. Not sure why they don't use something better. Really yummy and well priced they've got both indoor and outdoor seating. Doesn't open until 11 am, even on weekends, contrary to what their website currently states. I expected much more from this place. Donuts are like dense pieces of bread that are sweet. If that's what you're expecting... Then great. But, the soft beignet texture with a slightly sweet powdered sugar is what you're really looking for... Then not here... Not even close. The bowls were okay. Dumplings meh. Bao meh. I went to pick up some takeout today when they first opened. I ordered two bowls of their dandan udon which they placed in these big takeout containers. When my order was ready, I reached for a paper bag they had lying on the counter to put my food in there since the containers were big, awkward to hold and hot. The guy from the kitchen who gave me my food quickly grabbed the bag out of my hand and said they are 25 cents each if I want one. I was shocked and said to him that they are hot containers and I had to walk for 20 minutes. His response was "still doesn't change the fact it's 25 cents". Wow. Awesome customer service. Clearly loves his job and thinks he's the sh*t. First of all, they knew how much I ordered so they should have asked me while I'm paying if I want to buy a bag. Second, when I buy clothing from a clothing store, they don't tell me to pay an extra quarter if I want a bag to hold my purchase! Even Whole Foods build the cost of the bag into your purchase - it's only when you tell them no bag that they offer to refund you or you can donate the money. If you insist on charging your paying customers an extra quarter for a bag here and there, then build it into the cost of your food and don't act like a dick to your customers. On top of all that, their other staff had no idea how to work their till or what goes into their food. The guy who rung my purchase in couldn't find dandan noodles on the screen. And the last time I went there, they asked me if I wanted mild or spicy for my noodles. This time, they looked at me as if I was stupid when I told them I want it spicy. They then tell me to add the spice myself. So poorly trained rude staff and nickle/diming your customers...never going back there again! Wished there was more explanation on the wall than just "Dan Dan noodle" but my expectation was a traditional Dan Dan noodle - spicy, peanut sauce, hint of vinegar, minced pork with egg noodles. Amazing restaurant in Coal Harbor. Very affordable for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Went for lunch and the service was quick. The Duck Rice Bowl was amazing. Highly recommend the bowl for a lunch or dinner for one person. Very filling. Also shared the chicken wings- so tasty- perfect amount of batter and spice. Shared the marinated eggplant side- delicious and great contrast of soft eggplant with the crunchy fried shallots. Cotechino Bao was tasty with the Kimchi Daikon. Really unique and awesome place for brunch! They only JUST started serving brunch, so maybe that's why it wasn't busy when my friend and I went, which suited us just fine. My friend and I got "The Big One", which at $19 is perfect for sharing and comes with a bunch of different stuff. It has a green onion pancake with 3 poached eggs, potato rosti, duck and pork belly. Everything was delicious and super flavourful. Afterwards we both had a hankering for something sweet, so ordered fried mantou with matcha condensed milk. Oh man these were so good! My only complaint were that the mantou were pretty small and there were only 5, when I easily could have eaten more. But I would highly recommend these! Totally took me back to my childhood eating fried mantou with condensed milk, but the matcha flavour was a really nice twist. I can't speak about the lunch or dinner menu, but I would love to come back and try their other food. Otherwise, I can confirm this is a solid choice for brunch! read more

Very casual place where you order at the counter whether it is to eat in or take out. Asian cuisine of course and located fairly close to the cruise ships, Canada Place and business workers. The place was packed at lunch time. We had some bao as well as rice bowls with pork belly and rice. All the dishes were very tasty. While the prices are a little too high, the portion sizes are good so that is a positive. Given it is counter service difficult to rate service. Thought I'd give this place a shot because of the number of very positive reviews of this place. The restaurant is new and modern in design. It's a casual seating arrangement with half of the place set up communal seating style. I came here after work and the place was pretty empty. I'd imagine this place gets most of their business during lunch hour. Service was "OK" but nothing over the top. Walk up to the counter, order your food, pay, then sit down and wait. The person working at the front was friendly enough but I could tell she was there all day (i.e. Looking a bit tired). The menu is pretty simple with only a handful of items. That's OK as it's better to do a few things well than offer dozens of items and do it so-so. Price-wise, it's a bit on the expensive side: $5 for sides, $7-18 for their mains, drinks $2-4. If you're hungry, plan on spending at least $15. I ordered the pork belly bowl. For $12 I thought the quantity could have been a bit more. Adding a bit more rice would have been better and wouldn't really cost them. Also, I found the sauce they used to be on the salty side so the additional rice would have helped. It came with a Japanese/Taiwanese-style soft boiled egg. The 4-5 slices of pork belly was very tender. Other than the tenderness, I didn't find anything exceptional. It was good but not over the moon. In fact, it's very reminiscent of Chinese roast pork - though at a higher cost and with some sauce. (Tip: Try the roast pork on rice at Parker Place BBQ - da bomb!). Perhaps it's because I eat Chinese roast pork as well as Japanese pork in ramen frequently that having this wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I think if you don't eat this stuff too often, you'll probably have more of a "wow" experience. If that's the case, then this place is worth checking out. read more

Good food, but I don't expect any place to attempt to profit on me by selling me paper bags for to-go orders. 25 cents so I can carry my $30 order in one hand? Really? When did bags cost 25 cents? This isn't a grocery store, I don't bring spare bags with me everywhere I go. This isn't even an incentive for being 'green' given that these are paper bags. Also, I'd steer clear of their wings. The seasoning is really heavy when it's chicken, overly salty; and when they're out of chicken and feeding you duck, it feels as if they aren't modifying the way they cook it so it's super dry and bland. One of my favourite places to eat in Vancouver at the moment. Although I find a lot of their things, especially the rice bowl to be oily or drenched in oil, their flavours and textures of the dishes they put out are really on point. I particularly enjoy their fried cauliflower, eggplant, and the rice bowls remain my favourite! You get the richness from the protein/eggplant, and then that refreshing crunch and acidity from the vegetables. Their soft boiled egg is always cooked to perfection, and the rice is soaked with the delicious flavour from the vegetables and meat. Whether you mix it all up, or enjoy the components individually, it really hits the spot! Their baos and chicken wings are pretty good as well. It's my third visit here and counting... and you know it's good when you keep coming back for more. Can't wait to try their brunch and dessert items next time I visit! read more

I've visited the eatery twice now. My favourite is the pork belly rice bowl, don't forget to add eggplant! I've also tried the spicy tofu which is good and the XLB. XLB are not great and they're $7 which is pretty steep relative to other spots. I went at lunch and there was a line up to the door. I went back after work around 5 and it was basically empty, success. The price is average, you get a big rice bowl but it's 13+20 depending on your add ons. You have to clear your own spot too so it's not for everyone. Ill be back though! read more

A nice change of pace from the normal lunch spots around my office. This place is surprisingly not busy (which makes me worried they might end up having to close sooner rather than later), which makes for low wait times (though it does seem like it takes a bit of time to cook). I've enjoyed all of the lunch bowls I've tried (chicken/duck/pork belly), though their udon dish was a letdown and likely wouldn't bother ordering that again. It's on the higher end of lunch options in the area especially if you are ordering the duck rice bowl ($15), but the chicken ($11) is much more reasonable. While visiting Vancouver for five days I came here two days in a row. I would definitely recommend this place to all of my friends who enjoy asian food. The portions are generous and the price is very reasonable, especially for college students or low-budget folks, but don't let that deter you from coming here. I found this place based on an Instagram photo and boy did it blow my mind. I ordered the Chicken Rice Bowl ($11) both times. The chicken was fried lightly and perfectly crisp. The ginger scallion sauce placed on top of the chicken added a burst of flavor and the crispy onion flakes were a delightful and surprising addition to the bowl which gave it more texture and crunch in each bite. My only suggestion to the restaurant is that they serve the egg warm versus cold - it was a bit disappointing to bite into a refrigerated egg, although it's color was a deep orange. My friend ordered the Duck Rice Bowl ($15) which came with roasted duck breast sliced into several pieces and shredded/pulled duck leg. It was salty and delicious. It wasn't too crowded during the week at 1400 but during our visit around 1900 it became quite the happening place to grab a quick bite. read more
