Dim Sum in Kerrisdale is typically mediocre but it's actually GREAT at Southern Delicacy. They are part of another restaurant group that provides great service, quality ingredients and skilled chefs. Flavors are legit. An outstanding meal. Seafood sweet and sour soup, Szechuan fish with broth. Salt and pepper pork chops, green beans and eggplant. All very good. I was disappointed with the lack of sour in the soup until the seafood flavors bloomed in my mouth and I discovered it was subtle and delicious. Southern Delicacy serves up popular Southern Chinese favourites, and then some. We decided to play it safe this time so just ordered oyster sauce chai siu bao, minced beef congee with fresh-made Chinese donut (oily), and also pan-fried scallop, shrimp and eggs on flat rice noodles. Truly not bad for the prices, comparable to most of Richmond's dim sum places. They do offer seafood and higher-end items to take your dining there to the next level. Very nice Chinese restaurant in Kerrisdale. Very comfortable and nice interior. Service is good and attentive for a neighborhood restaurant. It feels like a high end Chinese restaurant but reasonably priced. Portion size are decent. The appetizer Szechuan chicken was very tasty. The appetizer popcorn chicken is dry and small pieces of chicken. We will definitely not order this again. We also ordered the steamed pork patty with salted fish which is very rare to find any restaurants serving it. It was tasty and great on white rice. Came to try out this place as my dad's birthday dinner and we were quite impressed with the service, food and overall meal! First, we tried their famous duck yolk chicken wings and these came with only "one bone. Although they were very filling, the oil used was new and the duck yolk flavour stood out! My dad LOVED their fried tofu as the soft tofu was smooth and again, the frying was not oily at all! My favourite dish was the steamed eggplant with pork and preserved veggies. The eggplant was not oily and the flavours of the pork seeped into the steamed simplicity of soft eggplant. In addition, their lobster with garlic rice was very delicious with plenty of fried garlic ontop of a mountain of egg fried rice. Their portion of lobster was not that large but it was still a great dish. Next, we ordered two more protein dishes being the scrambled eggs and prawn with truffle as well as the mango sauce pork chops. I was surprised by how much mango flavour they got into the pork chops and I must say, their cut of meat was tender but not overly fatty! The eggs were also filled with truffle flavour and yes, it is a greasy dish but I must say, I could eat many more bites than I could at other places with similar dishes. Last, we got some pea tips in supreme broth. Although a simple dish of veggies, their veggies were very fresh and sweet! The portion was reasonable for the price and it was a great palate cleanser for the abundance of chinese food. Overall, we enjoyed our meal here. One-line review: Beautiful venue, pricier fare with mixed results. We visited here for the start of Chinese New Year, having noticed that it had recently opened. We ordered: -Taiwanese chicken appetizer (I liked this fine; fried well, not too oily. But my family thought it tasted 'powdery.') - Malaysian Curry crab (This was the hit of the evening. Beautifully cooked and displayed, succulent, and tasty. But NOT cheap -- see below.) - Wide rice noodles with chicken and satay sauce (This was the loser of the bunch. The chow fun style noodles were way overdone, to the point of being pasty, no texture at all. The supposed satay sauce didn't taste like any satay sauce I've ever had, and the chicken texture was... too soft. Overall, wouldn't ever order this one again.) - Pork and green bean (a bit salty, but tasty) - Chili pepper fish soup (This was good. The right amount of spice for our spice-loving family; fish was tender and soup was well-seasoned.) The big, unwelcome surprise: The delicious crab was quite a bit more expensive than we anticipated. Rookie mistake: we asked about the market pricing and they said $28.99, which we found remarkably economical. Turns out that that is the price /per pound/. Our overall bill for three, including tip, was right at $200 -- a bit high for what we got. I might have given four stars for most of the food and venue, but took off another star for value. You can tell that they're going for a finer dining experience here, but the service was mixed. It was Chinese New Year, but none of the staff wished us a Happy New Year. They never offered tea, and the first hot water they brought us wasn't hot. They didn't bring a crab cracker, crab forks, or plastic gloves for the crab until well-after we had started eating it. On the positive side, they repeatedly asked if we were enjoying our meal, cleared plates promptly, and generally seemed concerned that we were having a good experience. We really should have spoken up about the noodle dish and given them a chance to make it right; I'm guessing the request might have been well-received. On the whole, I'd rate the service adequate. We walked over, as the restaurant is right around the corner from us, but we heard that there was parking in the rear. Otherwise, you're at a meter on the street. Bottom line: Some delicious dishes if you order the right items, but there are some to avoid, and no matter how you slice it, this is not a value pick. read more

This is a cool and quaint Hong Kong Cantonese lunch spot in Kerrisdale. This place works great for our family because it's quieter than your usual dim sum place. They serve an extensive Cantonese menu but lighter and simplified Dim Sum lunch menu. That being said I love that if you go early, the ambiance is much more comfortable than your traditional dim sum restaurant. The har gow and siu mai is just as good and their other dishes are pretty good too. read more

The food is decently portioned, we ordered 3 dishes and have the portion is good for 3 people. Flabourful but not too salty, I didn't feel super thirsty after the meal. I like the eggplant with minced pork, with little kick of spiciness. This dish is not easy to make at home because it requires a lot of oil. They did a good job. The XO sauce Beef is tender and I like how it's paired with quite some veggie. The yangzhou fried rice is just so so, I would just go with white rice next time. $32-38/person with tax and tips.It's on the pricier side but worth it once in a while. Super impressed with the quality, how fast food was cooked, and portion sizes. It's the best place for noodle soup or congee in Kerrisdale. We liked it more than Cafe Gloucester (which is also good!), and used to haunt congee noodle house a lot before it closed. Highly recommend. Also a beautiful setting. It's a Gem in the neighbourhood ! I'm so glad that this new restaurant is opened as the old one is just "meh". The ambience is nice and the colour matches very well. Tried a few different dishes and all of them taste great. Have been there for lunch and dinner as I live nearby (walking distance in Kerrisdale). There's free parking available on the street and also free parking behind the building as well. Lunch menu was reasonable , tastes delicious and good portion too. I luv their BBQ duck noodles and their BBQ pork + fry egg in hot stone rice bowl is my boy's favourite. There's a large variety of dishes in the menu. Tried a few and like all of it (refer to pictures); my favs are the deep fried wings with salty egg yolk, braised chicken pot (spicy), and sautéed crab with spicy pepper and rock salt) Perhaps I'm luckier than the other guy who reviewed because none of the dishes disappoint me. Service is also great. Waitress is attentive and keep changing plates for our table. The only thing that I can pick on is that they only serve cold / hot water there, not Chinese tea. But they didn't charge for tea where some dim sum restaurants will charge for tea per head. So it's fair, but it will be awesome if free tea can be offer. I've posted some menu pictures. the food we ordered were the following. the spicy 4 piece appetizer wonton was ok. the house special fried chow mein was a disappointment. the noodles were not crispy but soggy. the squid was just tentacle pieces. the sweet and sour pork was done well and very good, the pricey pork belly on veggie was good. that dish was expensive and had very little pork belly on it but was enough to serve 3. one really can't eat that much fat in a meal and so it was adequate to perhaps even to serve 4 people. it was good but one piece was enough per person. it was done with what seems to be soy sauce. the size of the servings of the dishes were on the small size, but in spite of that the above 4 dishes, we were full with no room for dessert. the restaurant itself is very small. The price for each dish is about $5-$8 more than other Chinese restaurant for the same comparable entrees. but rent in Kerrisdale is high. their limited but adequate menu is up on the web. Would I return? Probably not for awhile bc of the prices. read more

Services of manager is sub standard--Ignore our reservation & will not comply with our request for a table of 5(4 in our party as we order 6 dishes) claiming that it was booked. Waitress asked us to move to the requested table but told her that manager stated that it was booked so move us to another bigger table.Our 6 dishes are ok except for the 4 pasted Tofu. In my humble opinion,the quoted weight of the lobster is excessive.
