We love this place for breakfast but lunch is also delicious. I had the Spicy turkey sandwich with sweet potato fries and hubby had the reuben sandwich with regular fries. A lot of food and really good. Love watching the dogs on the patio, especially when they get a snack.

$-$$ A small breakfast/lunch nook behind a gas station on the way out of Durango, CO. My girlfriend, Wendy, and I would never have found the place without the help of her family with directions. We shared the eggs benedict, as we knew it would be way too much food for either one of us to eat. Our server was fabulous, the chefs in the kitchen were friendly and kind. The food that was served, was served hot and delicious. Ask one of the locals to point you in the direction of this little yet quaint and clean breakfast/lunch restaurant. My girlfriend, and I had a wonderful time. There's limited seating inside and out, but we enjoyed it immensely. Safe travels

Great little spot for breakfast and lunch. We had the breakfast burrito and it satisfied. Definitely check this place out.

This place is my favorite non-natural thing in Durango. It's so unassuming: a tiny restaurant next to a storage facility and a gas station/liquor store... but the staff is just fabulous at what they do, and the cooks are chefs! Back in 2015, I was in town for a wedding and I ate there about 3-5 times. This time, we couldn't go as often but we went twice. Once for breakfast (original Benny) and once for lunch (Cobb salad). It's just fresh, and yummy, simple, and reliable. I wish I lived here so I could go all the time.

What a disappointment. I was not able to review the food but the 1 star is for the service. We showed up on a weekday at 9:00 and wanted to sit outside. When the hostess noted we were there I asked for a table for 2. She offered 1 inside but we said would prefer outside- seeing a table with dirty plates and no people. She said, "well, you will have to wait for a table to become available." (Yes - we know that's how it works.). We said fine, and sat on one the benches they have for waiting. Another table cleared and she cleaned the table and seated guests who were there before us. A nice man came up to the hostess and said he was in a party of 4. She again offered him a seat inside and he declined. She told him the same thing as us - he would have to wait. He pointed out the larger table that was just sitting, still dirty, and she said that's for groups of 5 or more. He added that he's 4, that's close. Then we spoke up and said, Wait, you have a table where people can sit but you won't seat us? She then got snippy amd said, fine, take the table. She pointed at the table. No offer to clean it, no motion in that direction. We said it was fine to seat the larger party ahead of us, but by then I was no longer interested in spending my money here. I would guess this woman's behavior is typical as other restaurant staff were walking through our discussion and no one even missed a step.

Scramble was pretty good but the cinnamon roll was PHENOMENAL. Probably one of the best I've ever had. Service was amazing. Loved the hometown feel. Great views sitting outside. Watched the train roll by while I ate. Great breakfast stop!

Great little café just off US 550 about 10 miles north of Durango and well worth the 15-20 minute drive from Durango for breakfast. We stopped on the drive to Ouray for the day, and wanted some breakfast before the drive. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. I had the Breakfast Burrito stuffed with scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, cheese and topped with more cheese nested on the Hatch Green Chili, it was fantastic. The eggs were perfectly scrambled, soft not hard, and the bacon was perfectly crispy. On top of all this, it was large enough for 2 people to share and still leave stuffed. The green chili cheese grits we cooked perfectly, but I wish the green chilis had been spicier, a bit too mild for me. My wife had the California Benedict without the Canadian Bacon and really bragged about the flavor and Hollandaise Sauce. Once again the plate could have feed two people easily. If you're in the area and miss a trip to Hermosa Creek Grill for breakfast, you'll be depriving yourself of one of the best breakfast you'll ever have.

This little cafe is off the beaten path and doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that keep you from eating here! The food is delicious! There are several parking spaces, they have outside seating and dogs are allowed! The mountain views all around are gorgeous so I recommend sitting outside if weather permits. The atmosphere is homey and laidback. Everything is homemade country kitchen style. Due to this you should expect a little bit of a wait to get your plates, but nothing too crazy long. All the food is feel-good comfort food so come hungry! All of the waitresses were friendly and cheery. Ours had great recommendations. She even asked if we wanted to order anything for our dog lol. We ordered her a plain pancake and it was brought out on its own plate with a bowl of water. House coffee was good and HerMosa mimosas was strong and tasty. My pancakes and sausage were yummy and just what I needed to fuel up on before going hiking. I had initially ordered a side of hash browns, but they never came to our table. We were not charged for them and I ended up having enough food to eat anyways. My husband's burrito was savory and huge! We probably could have split a burrito and the sides. We got a cinnamon roll to-go and ate it later. It tasted like it was made with sourdough and was just okay - definitely not our favorite. Overall, we would eat here again!

Hermosa Creek Grill. My gooey Reuben with really, really good fries.

This grill is located on the north end of Durango, on the road to Silverton. They are open until 2:30 pm and stop serving breakfast at 11 am. We visited here at 12:30 PM on Sunday, March 20, 2022. That turned out to be a great time, as we were instantly seated. They have a lot of vintage metal signs and sports memorabilia inside the restaurant. A television hung above the kitchen playing March Madness. It looked like the kitchen contained 7 or 8 cooks and they were all busy. I originally wanted a beer with lunch (beers are only $3 for domestic and $3.50 for micros) but they were out of the Ska Mexican Logger I wanted, as well as a few others. So, I ordered an iced tea with lime (they were out of lemon). Iced tea is usually my gauge for how good a place is. Freshly brewed and strong is my preference. I could tell this place brews their tea, but my glass was a bit stale. The lunch menu stated they sold bowls and cups of "award winning" chili with cheese and red onion, in the upper right-hand corner. After ordering a cup, I was told they haven't made chili all season. My suggestion to the owner of this establishment would be to cover this tiny part of the laminated menu with a sticker. Any plain jane sticker would do. That way no patrons would get excited and then extremely dejected when they found out they haven't even cooked chili the entire season, from November till March. I ordered a BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado) with fries. The waitress said they were completely out of avocado. So I opted for a Reuben with fries. It seemed like everything I wanted they either hadn't made in months or had run out of. Maybe we came on an off day when they were out of almost everything? I doubt we arrived too late because they still had 2 hours till they closed. After taking our order, our waitress only checked on us once and it was long after our food had been delivered. I needed ketchup and waited till she came back with it to eat my fries. To be fair, the Reuben tasted great with the marbled rye and an overabundance of melty, gooey Swiss cheese. The fries rivaled McDonalds in quality. They possessed a crispy outside and soft potato inside. And were perfectly salted. This grill makes great food for a good price. We paid a total of $30.42 for two lunch entrees and drinks. However, because of the slow service, lack luster iced tea, and lack of drinks, chili, lemons, and avocado, I am giving the Hermosa Creek Grill three stars.

We came here with a party of 15 for breakfast. Ages ranged from1-70. We also had two dogs with us. What we loved: staff were so nice to us and our dogs- even bringing the dogs their own water bowls and a tiny scrap of bacon(they asked before offering), parking was easy, plenty of room for our crew divided into 3 tables near each other, tasty food, quick service, Gluten free toast was available and tasty, coffee was kept warm and the green chili sauce was delicious. What would have made it a 5 star: grill food was a little too greasy, pancakes were a little too sweet, there wasn't shade for everyone outside so it got really hot and a few folks may have gotten a little sun burnt, there was no baby changing station in the bathrooms although they were clean (a little odd as you have to walk through their rental storage units) and they were out of a few items (they have "famous" green chili cheese grits but there none available and no fruit was available) Overall if you are looking for an efficient local breakfast place this would check the box and folks shroud leave pleased.

To her credit, our kind waitress had the kitchen quickly make me a new one, but honestly it was still borderline inedible. This time, due to the salt. Not only was the meat heavily salted, but the breading was overly salted as well. I couldn't even taste the meat or the breading (or even the potatoes) because it wasn't a giant plate of salt. I ate all the broccolini, a few bites of potatoes, and a few bites of steak. I hate that all restaurants, because of patrons and their salt-conditioned palates, serve the most sodium-laden monstrosities possible. I didn't feel good eating it, I didn't want to eat more than a few bites, and I left the restaurant full of regret for the bites I did take. On the plus side, the beer is exceptionally tasty, and my kids both enjoyed their meals. We are leaving tomorrow and so we won't be back, but I wouldn't be back otherwise as well.

The spinach/artichoke dip was a bit heavy and overcooked. You def could not dip your chips in it. I got the poblano chx fried steak. It was good but also a bit overcooked. Some folks got burgers and pizza and they all said it was fine. Go for the service and drinks!! Fun atmosphere. Sorry- it was too crazy trying to get pics.

If you are a lover of well done birria, this is your place. Craving authentic Mexican food? Yep, this is your place. We started with their chips and salsa. I think you can tell a lot by the salsa at a place. Lemme just say, I was so very happy! Their salsa wasn't too chunky, not too thin and they are not afraid to season and add some heat - but hey, don't worry it wasn't too hot if you've got a dad like mine who isn't a fan of "too much spice." Such a good omen. I couldn't decide which marg to try so ordered a flight. Best decision ever. Even as I write this, I'm still hard pressed to choose a favorite. They were all so good. Add street tacos, quesadillas for my mom, elote cob, and switch fries for my dad and we were all happy campers. The flavors were obscenely good. Staff were amazing and stopped by to make sure we were always taken care of: fast and friendly. Best combo ever. The place is also super cute! Loved the bar and simplicity of the concept. Switchback has a quiet elegance while be so very casual. Perfect in my book.
