have been going to Hershey's for about 7 years. I even have referred my family and friends there. However, today, I ordered $54.95 worth of food. When I got home, an item (Cole slaw) wasn't in the bag(which I was charged) I called and spoke with the same lady I spoke with when I placed the order (Danielle). I told her an item wasn't in the bag. Initially she was apologetic. She asked what did I want to do. Whether I wanted to come back for the Cole slaw or take the loss. I responded due to the distance what I would like is for her to tell the kitchen staff to be more thorough. However, her response was "people make mistakes and hung up the phone". At no time was I disrespectful. She even mentioned similar things occurring the night before. I went back to get the Cole slaw and encountered Danielle. Again, she was dismissive and she stated "not liking working with customers like me" I then asked why because I'm black? She then stormed into the kitchen loudly verbally complaining about our interaction. I explained the situation to another waitress and asked if she would go to the kitchen to retrieve the Cole slaw because I didn't feel comfortable with Danielle retrieving my food in the kitchen after our encounter. Thank you to the waitress that graciously went in the kitchen for me. Although when she walked in the kitchen for my request, Danielle was heard yelling at the waitress stating she was going to call "Lisa". We ordered 1# of steamed shrimp. They were large, hot, and delicious. I ordered the Meatloaf with sides of Hushpuppies and Green Beans. The meatloaf was good tasting, a very large portion covered in gravy but tasted a little bland. My wife really liked it. The portion was so big (size of a platter) that we split it and still took some home. The hushpuppies were fresh, nice corn meal, and hot. Very delicious. The beans were typical green beans; nothing spectacular but still tasty because I like green beans. Server was prompt and caught on to my comment, "NFL" when asked if I wanted a lime in my Carona. Hershey's Restaurant it's like a Dive Bar and steroids when it comes to fried chicken. friendly staff and patrons make it a bonus to always go back the 45 minute wait for the fried chicken means you know it's cooked made to order and is always fresh. I have yet to get a bad order of chicken to date. The food brings you back to old-school cooking close Grandma's Sunday gathering. I love the apple slices, and even enjoy the Bands that play there sometimes. This place was recommended for us, but... I am not going to go back. The restaurant was extremely crowded, and is a seat yourself kinda place. It's not just crowded with people, but the tables are cluttered, aisleways blocked with equipment, and so on. We were lucky to find a table, but sat for a few minutes before we got drinks and menus. About 15 minutes later, the (very bad) band started, as people mounted the supposed dance floor. After another ten minutes, I just left -- nobody had been by to take my order. Naturally, someone slammed into me as I was forced to cross their make shift dance floor, too. too. I tried to call for carry out to place a $100+ order, I was put on hold and they never came back to me. I hung up and called from a different number 3 times and they kept picking up the phone and hanging up. This has happened to me on multiple occasions when trying to order from here. I had an appointment to install my car alarm, and had to wait a couple of hours until the installation was done, so I went on a, search for a place to have lunch, and, serendipitiously, stumbled upon Hershey's. I got there a couple of minutes before they open-ended, but I was invited to wait in one of their outside tables. It gave me some time to look around the place. Hershey's is tucked away in a semi-industrial area of Gaithersburg, right across the railroad tracks. It has a lovely patio outside, which I am sure would be great in the summer months. The establishment is primarily a local watering hole with a well-stocked bar that also serves a limited but substantial menu. The dishes seem to be influenced by Southern cooking. There are multiple tables, which by the time I left were busy with patrons. Following what is usually my preference, I sat at the bar. I ordered one of their beers on tap, Kona, which was refreshing. I ordered one of their fried chicken platters, the two-piece white, which came with two sides, and mine were fried okra and coleslaw. There is a 25 minute wait whenever you order fried chicken, because it is fried "a la minute" (to order), and that meant receiving a wonderful plate of fried chicken that was shateringly crispy outside and juicy and moist on the inside. The chicken was well seasoned, and so where the crispy fried okra. The servings were generous! I want also mention the wonderful service I got at the bar, where I appreciated the conversation with the bartender. Hershey's was a little gem that deserves to be visited more than once! read more

We went back to Hershey's to experience their famous fried chicken. It was good, but made by simply deep frying. Very tasty, but...My favorite fried chicken is prepared the old fashioned way, lightly breaded and fried, not deep fried. I am no fan of the heavily heavily breaded chicken at Popeyes. I find it difficult to get at the chicken. Actually, our favorite store-bought chicken is Peruvian. Don Pollo and others make amazingly delicious roasted chicken. Hands down some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. Light, crispy and well seasoned batter. Just how I like it. I ordered the 3 thighs with a side of Mac and Collards ($15). The Mac was ok. It's not your traditional homemade Mac and cheese. It was very one note with not a lot to it. The greens were my least favorite. They didn't have any flavor and again, weren't your traditional big leafy fresh collards. I'm always a little weary of finely chopped collards. We went in on a Friday evening when it was pretty busy and they were short staffed. I was ok with that because the fried chicken, which is what I went there for was AMAZING. My guess is the 3.5 star rating they have has a lot to do with the service. If you're ok with sacrificing the service for good food you should give it a try. Will def be back!! read more

I think this was the first restaurant in which I actually walked out. There was a sign at the front entrance that says, ''Please wait to be seated." We stood at the entrance for quite some time. The bar was to the right of the entrance and the bartender did not say a single word to us. A server stood right in front of us counting some cash (probably a tip that was just left for her) and ignored us. She didn't even make eye contact. She came back a second time and walked right passed us to talk with people at a table. We kept waiting for someone to seat us but no one came. No one said, we'll be right with you, not even the bartender who was standing right next to me. This is not a way to run a business. Hershey's is a hidden treasure (take Oakmont off Shady Grove, turn left, across from the post office) that we finally got around to trying last year and it's become a family favorite. Our go-to is the fried chicken of course. We tend to get the 12 piece with 2 sides and biscuits to split among 4 people. The mashed potatoes are my favorite side, flavorful and buttery, I could probably eat a whole side by myself haha Their gravy is also good. Green beans help it feel like a more well rounded meal, but we do usually also order fries for some of the family that prefer that as their form of potato haha There is plenty of surface lot parking. Inside is a cozy and fairly spacious dining area made up of booths, tables with chairs, and some splits. There is a stage for live music, and a bar. They also have covered outdoor seating. My husband was craving some "diner" food. He found Hershey's via Google. Pro's: -You can hear and possibly see (we were inside) a train passing by. My daughter ordered the sliders appetizers and the portion was perfect. -Under staffed in the dining room and/or kitchen? The service was very slow and wasn't overly friendly. I could tell the server was trying to please everyone going back and forth but it was hard to keep up. -Little outdated.. seats had duct tape to hold them together I may give Hershey's another shot but probably won't go with the kids. June29, 2023-My husband and I drove 30 min to this restaurant because he remembered it being good 25 years ago. Well, it's gone down hill since then! We ordered on the phone cheeseburger sliders, coleslaw for me and meatloaf sandwich for my husband. To say it was bad is an understatement! We sat in the car to eat because we had our dog. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the sliders! They were burnt and over-cooked. Look like hockey pocks! The coleslaw had a medicinal taste. I am not picky! In fact, I was starving at noon since I hadn't eaten yet! I tried to eat one but couldn't stomach the other sliders. The meatloaf sandwich was dry as a boot but my husband was too hungry to return it! But I brought the cheeseburger sliders back though to get my money back. The server credit my credit card. However, I told her to talk to the cook about how he overcooked the burgers. She shouted to me as I was leaving that for her, the burgers looked fine! Are you kidding me??? Plus this place is filthy! This is such a hidden gem for some good comfort food! I decided to go with the famous fried chicken here -- I got the dark meat -- and it was delicious! I do think they could've cooked the chicken a little bit longer as some areas of the meat were pink, but otherwise this is definitely a step up from your local Popeyes. The skin was cooked and seasoned perfectly, so no complaints here. The order also came with 2 sides of your choosing. For about $13 I would say it was worth it. I was super full with my entree! You can even choose to get 1 piece chicken or 3 piece chicken and etc. I will be back to try the other items on the menu. Only giving this 4 stars because parking can be a nightmare :( I got lucky to even find a parking spot when I arrived around 5:45pm. We selected Mac & Cheese and Hot Sliced Apples. We were told 30 minutes for pick up. The fried chicken traveled well and was still hot, juicy and crispy after 20 minutes. The Mac & Cheese needed to be reheated but the Hot Sliced Apples were still warm. This meal cost $29. I also ordered a side of hush puppies for $3 which travelled well. My son and I visited this restaurant on 3/23/24 @ 3pm for a meal. We sat down and placed our order. my son order chicken strips and fries and I ordered a basket of wings, The waitress was not friendly at all and had a scowl on her face when she came to our table. I observe when she went to the other tab les she was very chatty and smiley, but that was fine since we were there for friendship. When we finally got our food, the strips were burnt. when we were ready we requested containers to take the rest of our dish and we had to ask her at 3 times before she brought them. I would not go back to this restaurant unless it is under new management. the service was subpart an d the staff was horrible. I would not recommend this place at all. My husband and I tried this restaurant based on the great reviews we read about. We thought we found a hidden gem but we were sadly mistaken and very disappointed. We sat ourselves (per the sign at the front door), waited patiently for a waitress and when one finally came over she asked if we wanted a menu. There clearly weren't any on the table. That was one of the the times our waitress spoke to us. We waited a very long time for our food and when it finally came out the sides were incorrect and it was room temperature at best. My meatloaf was luckily pretty good but my husband's cat fish was RAW. Once we were done eating we waited 20-30 minutes just to get the check. Our waitress didn't pay any attention to us and at one time sat down at another table to eat. A nice gentleman finally stopped by to collect our plates.
