I am just getting into Yelp so this review is a long time coming. Hershey's is fantastic. The fried chicken is the house specialty and the chicken is amazing. Do not be surprised if you go there one night and are treated to live music. The range of customers is very wide. Because it is important to me to be fair in my reviews, I have to say that because they make the chicken fresh it can take a while. They will probably tell you that. Also, it is very dark. I normally order a 3 piece chicken with two sides and the chicken is nice and fresh and juicy, very good chicken and the customer service is fantastic, everyone greets you with a smile and they always strive to make sure you are pleased with your meal and service.. I really like Hershey's restaurant. I have been coming here since I was little! They have the best fried chicken!! Just be prepared for the chicken to take awhile. They allow 20 minutes to cook the chicken. The potato skins were excellent! They gave you four pieces which was 2 whole potatoes. The chicken livers were great, but they needed more gravy. Scorpion Rose was performing. They were incredible! The reasons that I only gave it 4 stars was because they didn't have enough sweet tea to last through the night. When I asked for a refill, they said that they ran out. The coke didn't taste right. Please fix the one table that wobbled back and forth. read more

Tons of old pervs at the bar. I went there with my girlfriend and I don't know where to start. First there was mold in her drink and guys sexually staring at her. They would also make weird gestures and noises trying to seduce her. One man leaned over the bar and put his hand on the side of his head like he was really going to try and talk to a girl 30 years younger than him. Another random old man had trued to grab her face saying that she had an eyelash on her face and that's when I had to escalate things. The guy tried apologizing when I got in his face. We Irish goodbyed and got the hell out of there. This was a little date spot for us for a while during the week when it was quiet but after seeing the people that roll through this place it's safe to say we're never going back. We ate outside and it was a very warm day. However, it was worth it to eat the fried chicken with hush puppies and sweet sliced apples. So very good. Too much food so took some home. The food was ok, but they were incredibly short staffed. We waited for 20 minutes for the menus, another 20 minutes to have our orders taken. After an hour and 15 minutes, we saw the waitress again to deliver the appetizer. The food finally arrived after an hour and 45 minutes. During this time, we had no one check on us for drinks. In fact, I went inside for a refill - there were 12 people at the bar, but no bartender for the 15 minutes I waited. I never say this, but I won't go back. The best fried chicken in Gaithersburg!! My Mother was at a family event where they had food from Hersheys Restaurant and she kept raving about their fried chicken. So, of course I had to find out for myself. My husband and I went for a late lunch today. I had the four piece white meat chicken(leg, wing, breast and thigh), which included two sides: I chose collard greens & hush puppies. The chicken was nice and hot, juicy and crispy! The collard greens were to perfection and the hush puppies had corn in them and were perfectly fried. My husband had the three-piece platter which was three thighs with two sides, he chose macaroni & cheese and mashed potatoes w/ gravy. We also enjoyed dinner rolls before our entree's, which were nicely baked & soft. I would call Hershey's a Mom & Pop little secret of Gaithersburg ..It was definetley Mmmmm...Goooood! This restaurant is racist went in to have a drink, and we wasn't acknowledged of the service that we wanted, the man asked us the bartender what drink we wanted we told him he walked completely away from the bar like we didn't even exist. ( should have notice when we walked in the vibe was like why are we in this establishment? ) It's not 1619. if you don't want blacks in your facility, put a sign and we don't have to come there and feel the way that we have to feel living in America. read more

I'd give the food 5 stars & the service & general appearance 2 stars, so I split the difference....sort of! The fried chicken is the real deal....crispy, crunchy, moist, & not greasy. Same for the hush puppies which are honestly the best I've tasted out the south. My baked sweet potato came out hard & inedible, but the Cole slaw was delish. My fam of 6 dined here for the first time and all enjoyed what we ordered. Be advised that the fried chicken takes 25 minutes, but worth the wait ( so said 10 year old grandson), although our order seemed to take longer. We experienced rude service from our server. No help in finding a table for 6 and general impatience from her when taking our orders. The booth we finally sat in had torn upholstery & the 2 tables we had to push together left a wide gap, making conversation difficult. I love how quaint and historic the restaurant building. It's In Old Gaithersburg right outside of the train station . There are plenty of artistic touches. They have live music, karaoke and a dance floor. There's a porch for outdoor dining too. I love their surf and turf. read more

Wish I could give this place a real rating. Drove down from Frederick to have dinner on a Sunday night to find they close at 9 not 10. Super upsetting, especially with gas being $5 a gallon. Apparently they close the kitchen two hours before the bar. So be forewarned- you can get super drunk til 10 but can't eat after 8! Please update all of your online information to reflect your actual dining hours and operations. Would be helpful. read more

Do not order anything other than the fried chicken here. Not even a salad or sandwich. Horrible.

Not sure what the hype was all about. Fried chicken was crispy but was bland/no seasoning. The waffle was decent. Collard greens were flavorless. Catfish Po Boy was meh. Service was not good. Bartender spent too much time conversing with locals. Waits for refills and service were unusually long for a slow night. The staff seem to know this and not really care. This is a place for the older "usual crowd". Read the other 1-2 star reviews, they appear to be accurate. read more

Instead of reviewing this as a lunch or dinner spot (which is just like going to grandma's house circa 1963 - in a good way), I'll focus on Hershey's for breakfast. Of course the restaurant feels like walking into a time machine which returns us to Gaithersburg of 40 years ago. Kind of like walking over to a favorite neighbors house... the one who cooks for everyone on the block. The breakfast menu is varied and full of good choices. As I'm usually watching my morning carb intake, I stick to bacon and eggs. No fake eggs here, they are really good, not dry - not wet. The bacon is semi-thick, always really good cook (no uncooked looking spots or heavy crunch). The orders are good sized and the servers are attentive and nice. My wife goes for more colorful food options like the breakfast skillet or the everything omelet. The breakfast items comes with a serving of fresh fruit. We have had the cantelop and watermelon. Both were good. While Hersheys is best known for their fried chicken, there isn't a better choice for a breakfast with the feel of home. read more

This Gaithersburg landmark is living too much on the nostalgia of its heyday. The chicken was way greasy, the prices a bit too high, the service slow. It took 15 minutes to be seated, even though there were plenty of tables. When I asked for a soda water, it took them a minute to realize what I wanted, them they brought me tonic water. Next time I'm feeling nostalgic in the Burg, I'll find someplace else. read more

Had lunch here after playing golf at Needwood Golf Course and it was delicious. We all had fried chicken and I had collard greens and mashed potatoes with gravy. This is another place I enjoy alot , this IsHershey's Restaurant . This place is somewhat off the beaten path near railroad tracks on a bsckroad area. As you come to this this there are no reservations first come first serve . This place has the best subs shrimp baskets and more. Plus they carry a challenging desert called called the waffle sandwich. I passed it 4 times in a row .plus this place has great live entertainment every Saturdays. They have great customer service and bar tender there who is my brother Brandon. Please come down and support this fantastic restaurant and bring AMERICA together again. Staying at a friends place not too far away and they suggested this for the breakfast and fried chicken . Oh and cause it's right next to the railroad tracks and their son loves trains. We got there tail end of breakfast. There was a chicken waffles but with chicken strips so I got the 3 thigh dinner $10 comes with a side. Friends ordered breakfast. Waitress tells me chicken will be 30 minutes, breakfast stuff will take 5 minutes, am I okay with that? Yup. Got grits as my side. Everything was delicious!! Chicken was hot crispy outside, crust was light and chicken juice. Rest of the table was eggs, bacon, sausage, Mac n cheese, green beans, toast, hush puppies and bottomless coffee that was on point. My only downs were size of grits serving was small, green beans side was too soft and we didn't get to sit by train window. I want to go back and try the other menu items. read more

I've been going to Hershey's for over thirty years, so it pains me to leave this long overdue review. We ordered two fried chicken thigh carryout dinners right after Thanksgiving. The staff that night was very nice. The chicken itself was barely edible. I've ordered the same thing dozens of times, for dine in and carry out, and never had such a vile meal from Hershey's. The chicken was undercooked and flavorless. It's been over six months since this happened, and I'm very reluctant to ever go back. The time before the food was adequate, but we noticed the chicken thighs were much smaller. This post-Thanksgiving experience has me craving RoFo, instead of my former go-to Hershey's for fried chicken. So sad but I can't see ever going back there. read more

So my husband and I are new to the area and we're looking for someplace good to eat. Man, did we make a mistake. The food was actually pretty good - but the service is awful. We sat ourselves and the one server looked at us like we had 3 heads. After about 7 minutes of waiting, the one bartender gave us waters and the server practically threw menus at us. Barely even acknowledged us. Another 5 minutes later and some guy with a pen and pad shows up at our table asking if we're ready. He doesn't look like a server (I thought he was a customer) but he took our order and input it at the bar. No biggie. About 10 minutes later (which is fine since we were expecting to wait 20 minutes) the server drops our food at the table. That's our last interaction with her. I finish my water and slurp loudly to get attention. Nothing. Try again. Nothing. Finally the bartender walks over and refills my water. We finish our meal and wait. And wait. And wait. Server lady looked at us at least 5x and totally ignored the fact that we were done. Bartender was busy at the bar - I finally manage to grab his attention and we get our bill and pay and leave. It's really too bad - the place has a nice down home atmosphere and the food is pretty good but the terrible, awful service means we will probably never go back. read more

Horrible experience. Ordered by phone at 4:27PM, told it would be ready in 15 minutes. Arrived just before 5PM. Bartender ignored me to serve multiple other customers. Request my order, pay for my order, don't get my order until 5:13 PM, 46 minutes. Ask why it took so long. Waitress interrupts, puts hand in my face, orders me to leave restaurant. Sunday crew is terrible (rude and arrogant), should be replaced. Oh, I ordered my london broil rare and it was well done. This is not the way to build or retain a customer base. read more

Last two times we've ordered the fried chicken it hasn't been good at all dry and overcooked. Barely edible sad to see this, Hershey's used to be the place to go for great Fried Chicken. Terrible service in the dining room and worse at the bar! The bartender ignored new customers to talk to his girlfriend(?) who seemed to think she was sitting on a throne at the end of the bar. The locals were very intoxicated yet the bartendar kept pouring the cocktails. One gentleman was so drunk he fell off his stool after grouping a female customer! The wait staff was extremely rude! After 30 minutes of being seated, we had to order drinks from the bar. We had to find a waitress to order our food! The chicken is over rated It was overcooked and very greasy. This restaurant is popular amongst the locals, probably because there are not a lot of choices close by. The bands are pretty good, but heaven forbid, if its one of the waitress' favorite groups, you'll have a hard time getting her off the dance floor!! read more

Definitely of my favorite places to go for down home cooking. Being a southern boy, I enjoy some delicious fried catfish. This is the best place in town for that fried catfish! The cocktail is prepared daily. The mashed potatoes and Mac n cheese are superb. I have to mention the sweet tea. In my opinion the sweet tea here is the best. The have a really good brunch too. The breakfast skillet meal is a wonderful hearty way to start the day. The fried chicken at Herscheys is also out of this world. This is clearly a neighborhood favorite and iconic restaurant, bar and music venue. It's a laid back place and staff were really working hard and together to keep customers fed. They were understaffed and service was a bit slow. The rolls are delicious and warm. Their reputation for fried chicken is well deserved. It came out piping hot and did not disappoint. The sides were good too. We tried the Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes (real), greens, cole slaw and green beans. Yum. Plenty of space between tables. Indoor and outdoor seating. Show up on time (per what we were told order would be ready) and wait 45 min - 1 hour. The few 2021 dine-in experiences have been poor but tonight (July 2021) was the worst. Told by female server (blonde hair) to sit anywhere, we chose an outdoor table to enjoy the weather. She was 1 of 2 servers outside, observed her speak rudely to other customers when handing them their checks, i.e., party of 4 said "stop talking so I can say it again and your friends can hear me" to a man whose voice we could not hear sitting 6 feet away. read more
