I had a great car buying experience at Hertz today. Jeff was my salesman and I felt right at home as soon as I walked in. Jeff and everyone else I encountered was friendly. We got right to looking at the cars I expressed interest in. Jeff didn't pressure me to buy a more expensive vehicle. He was sure to show me what I wanted to see. I looked at two cars and test drove one. I liked the car. They were able to get me financing at a good rate, took my trade in, and got me out of the door with a car, same day, which is what I asked for when I walked in. I like the Hertz prices its vehicles fairly, they are transparent about the vehicles they are selling, and I was thanked for my business. I wish car buying everywhere was this easy. Good experience purchasing a 2023 Chevy Malibu. However, after 3 weeks the vehicle went into reduced power mode. Long story short, the issue is not covered either by Chevrolet or Hertz warranties. When Chevy dealer first inspected the car they said the oil was "dark and dirty". Hertz manager claims oil was changed during 115 point inspection prior to the sale but they have no records of car being serviced. $1,300 later, including $118 for an oil change I wonder who we should believe - Hertz or Chevy? Hertz Sales Manager says they can't do anything for us - not even cover the cost of oil change! As a Hertz employee I am not happy with Hertz Car Sales. read more

I am a Lyft driver on my spare time and wanted to get a newer car to use for the business. After doing a lot of shopping around, I noticed Hertz Car Sales had the best prices. They had a lot of 2016 vehicles with an average of 30,000 miles under $13995. Most of the vehicles are base models that you would normally rent from Hertz Car Rental. These were perfect for my Lyft business. I decided to pop in yesterday and test drive a few of their vehicles. Abe my sales representative was amazing. He made the whole car buying process seamless and not stressful at all. I drove a 2016 Kia Optima with 34,000 miles. The car drove great. I decided to pull the trigger and purchase the vehicle. I was able to get financing right away and was out the door within an hour. This by far has been the less stressful buying experience of my life. I would recommend them in a heart beat. BAIT AND SWITCH! On Wednesday I saw a Dodge 1500 they had selling with a "No Haggle Price" of $29677. I called up the dealership and asked some questions. The salesperson was very helpful and gave me his personal number. I called him back to make an appointment for Saturday to come down. On Friday I check to see if the car was still there. It was, but the price went up $1200. I called the salesperson back up and explain that when I booked my appointment to test drive the truck, the price was $29,677 and now the website says it is $30,877. I just want to confirm the "No Haggle" price was still $29,677. He said, no sorry, corporate sets the prices. The price is now $30,877 and there is nothing we can do. I said this is Bait and Switch. The salesperson stated this happens sometimes. He said trucks are a "commodity" and prices vary based on demand. Really? I have yet to see pick up trucks traded on the futures market. He went on to say the truck was really nice and clean. I told him that I cannot support a company that jerks people around like this. I said, if you are going to jerk me around on prices, what else are you going to jerk me around on... financing, warranty, service? I canceled my appointment. He replied, that he likes the company and they treat him well. Well, that's nice, but they treated me poorly and have now lost a sale and a rental customer. read more

Found a 2020 Tahoe and sold within 12 hrs while I was bummed I went to look at a 2019. When ny husband arrived to look at the 2019 the salesman asked if there was a reason we wanted the 19 not the 20? Guess it didn't sell. It was only $400 more. Hansel showed us a few tiny rock chips was very honest with us upfront. Let my husband take it and drive it to his work to have it looked over. We were totally happy. Supereazy financing. You talk to one salesman not 3 which was nice. Quick, easy, no problems out the door with my car. Super happy with it and the easy process of this dealership. I called Hertz Corporate to file a complaint on Richard. I was already in the process of purchasing a vehicle and when I called him today I was trying to figure out the logistics. We needed the vehicle for an upcoming move and this morning I was told my sister died. During the phone call I told Richard that I was depending on getting the vehicle. Richard interrupted me and asked "or what?" I asked what he was talking about to which he said that I had told him that I needed the vehicle and then said "or." He raised his voice and said "are you threatening me?" I didn't comprehend what he was says and said "excuse me" two more times for my wife and daughters to hear. Needless to say that the conversation didn't improve and the said "We're done here, good bye." I called the location to ask who I could call to report Richard. Evidently, no one there knows to whom they work for, their phone number, how to file a complaint, or who the supervisors are. I eventually called the corporate office and I'm under the impression that they may be addressing this issue. read more

We all know that buying a car can be super stressful and sometimes a bit uncomfortable.... I have had less-than-satisfying experiences with dealerships in the past.... And that is putting it lightly.... But, we don't need to talk about that.... because absolutely NONE of that was an issue for me when I purchased through Hertz. My fiance purchased a car from Hertz last summer... we worked with Abe, and he was such a straight-forward, friendly, approachable, and no-pressure sales person. We left completely happy and excited. It was such a smooth process and sweet deal that, when the time came for me to trade in MY little go-kart car, I knew I had to go back. I was curious, so I went straight to their website first, and saw pretty much my dream car for a STEAL. I went in just on a whim, wanting to crunch the numbers just to see if it was even possible. Ended up test driving it and fell in love the moment I sat in the driver seat. This time, my sales person was Stephen. Right off the bat, they all remembered me from my fiance's prior purchase. Stephen pulled up all of my documents, got my go-kart car appraised, and sat down to crunch the numbers for me. He ended up getting me the BEST interest rate, answered all of my questions, reviewed the vehicle history in detail with me (all squeaky clean), and he didn't try to upsell a single thing. Not to mention, they gave me completely fair market value in trade and I didn't need any cash down. Seriously, these people at Hertz actually care, they actually sell amazing cars with a ton of life left in them, they have amazing variety, and they take the time getting you the best rates possible. Needless to say, I will never have to deal with slimy car sales guys ever again.... because I am only coming back here when the time comes for another vehicle change. I really appreciated the entire process and I am super happy and completely confident in my purchase. Even better??? Almost all of their vehicles are still under warranty. Over the weekend I had heard about the great deals at Hertz. I found the car I like. On Monday I get down to the dealership. 1st encounter. There are 3 salesmen total on the floor. 2 are with customers and the 3rd is sitting at a desk not doing anything. It isn't until I walk up to him and ask if I can receive some help that he acknowledges me. I tell him which car I am looking for from the website. He points to the back wall of the showroom and says the car is in the back and that I can go take a look. Really?! Just point in the vague direction of where the vehicle is. Ok, undeterred I go anyway. I eventually find the car. The car is walled in on each side by at least 2 or 3 cars in every direction. I realize that someone would have to physically move a good amount of inventory if I wanted this car, but I thought this is technically a dealership and if they wanted to make money they would find away. A guy parking multiple cars named Miguel can see me walking around the Charger. He offers to get the key so I can hear it start. I thank him and he comes back a little while later and unlocks the door. He lets me start the engine. Miguel is clever because this has pretty much sealed the deal. I just want to test drive it first. I ask Miguel about it. He isn't a salesperson, but he echoes my sentiments from earlier. It needs an inspection, but it is possible to get it out sooner and tested so I can drive it. If I am interested, I would have to set up an appointment. Which I took to mean that it was too much work to expect someone to do it that late in the day. I did not have a problem with that. When I walk back on to the showroom I ask the sales rep about a test drive. He estimates that the safety inspection is about two weeks out. Because of this I cannot test drive it, Oregon law. I say, "Ok, so you won't sell the car for 2 weeks then?" He says, "Oh no if someone comes in tomorrow and wants to buy, we will sell it to them." "Ok well, I am fairly sure I want to buy this car I just want to test drive it first. Can we expedite that process so I can test drive before it gets sold? "Well there are a lot of cars ahead of it on the list and we don't usually skip cars." "Ok well, I do not understand why the car was on your website, to begin with, if it was not ready." He doubles down on no test drives without an inspection. "Yeah, I am sorry it is Oregon law" Confused that he circled back to that point I respond, "What? Well, can you ask your manager about it?" "Sure, I will ask them tomorrow when they get in." I say, great, and proceed to wait an uncomfortable 30 seconds before I ask, "Do you want to take my name and number so you can call me with what they decide?" "Oh yes." I take a card he found and write my info on a card. I ask for his name, Ramon, get a card for him, and leave. The next morning comes and goes. No call from Ramon or anyone from Hertz. I wait until the afternoon in case they were busy or forgot. Still nothing. 2nd encounter. I decide since no one called me I would go back in. A row of cars on one side of "my car" had been reduced. The car was still blocked and untouched. I cannot find any salespeople this time. I did not have enough time to stay, so I left. When I got back home, I looked on the site to find the number for the dealership. I found a surprise. The car's price went up by 1k. The same car that has a no-haggle statement on the website. The car I wanted to buy days ago but was told I could not test drive. The car that had not moved. I call the dealership. When someone answers I ask to talk to the sales manager. I am put on hold. After holding for 15 minutes the line is disconnected. I call back. This time I tell them what happened with the earlier and ask again to talk with the Sales Manager. They inform me they do not have sales managers. The only managers there are finance managers and they do not take sales-related calls. So why the hell did the previous guy put me on hold if there was no one to pick up the other end. This guy is sidestepping my frustrations. He is aggressively trying to get me to talk about the car. At this point, I ask him his name because his voice sounds familiar. He hesitates and then says, Ray. It sounds like Ramon. In the current climate and I have to speak up. what happened is not right. I saw a handful of white people getting great service. I could not even get the guy to step away from his desk. A couple of white gentlemen got walked to a car a couple of feet away from "mine" for what appeared to be a test drive. I got pointed in the direction of the car I was interested in. I wanted a test drive I was told no and never received the follow up I was promised. The car jumped 1k in price after I went to look at it. they didn't know anything about me just that I was black. I got the message loud and clear. To those people with melanin, Hertz does not want your money. If you do go just be prepared to be jerked around, and have them raise the price on you. read more

Bought a 2014 Hyundai Elantra from this place a few weeks ago. After exhausting ourselves at Vancouver auto mall we decided to take a peek at the car we found online at Hertz. "Kiwi", as he's known, was really helpful and he was straight forward by telling us from the get-go that they do not haggle. The car was in great condition, the purchase process was straightforward and pretty quick. $300.00 in fees for everything. No hidden fees. I'd already gotten pre-approved so I'd done my homework which probably made the process smoother. Highly recommend sorting out financing before any car buying venture. They work with the cuttle system so the financing paperwork was easy when I was ready to purchase. (Google cuttle system-I didn't know what it was). Perks: they offer one year warranty on major engine issues (transmission) but not electrical. They also offer a week free Hertz car rental with purchase! And they have license plates there so you don't have to do temp plates if you're an Oregon resident. Super convenient. :) They require: the vehicle to be insured before driving off the lot so do that in advance or call while there. Suggestion: get your finances in order before going in to sign paperwork. It makes their and your life easier. OnPoint was great for pre-approval (did it online and the staff was helpful and friendly when I had questions via email). bring in the pre-approval letter. That's helpful. All in all. Satisfied buyer. Car runs great. No issues thus far. Low mileage. Good condition. I'd recommend going there if you want a car that was a rental (so taken care of and can see car fax history) and especially if you want a no hassle purchase experience. read more

Went to check out a 2018 Chevy Equinox today. I opened the car door and was honestly shocked at how filthy it was. There was dirt, sand, etc. literally all over this thing. Ummm idk if Hertz Portland has noticed but we are in the middle of a pandemic? And you're supposed to WANT people to buy the cars you're selling? I mean, I would understand if it weren't totally impeccable, it is used after all...but this was comically filthy. You seriously cannot put in effort to vacuum and wipe it down real quick? ANYWAY, that wasn't the biggest issue. This car was RUSTY. There was rust under the seats on the metal that slides the seats back and forth, and it appeared to be on the outside underneath the car as well. My boyfriend looked under it, and said that it looked like there was definitely some red flags under there. There was even rust in the "Equinox" symbol on the outside of the car. I told the sales guy when I came back why I wasn't interested, he seemed very surprised about the pretty obvious rust. He said that Hertz doesn't give them money for anything cosmetic (I guess that means they can't do a basic cleaning ) and only give them money to do safety inspections...Yeahhh, rust and no considerations for cleanliness in the midst of COVID, very "safe". No wonder the thing has been sitting on the lot for a while. Judging by all the sand inside and rust, I wouldn't be surprised if this thing took a few dips in the ocean. Ridiculous. read more

Absolutely frustrating! If you can afford to, go elsewhere! I have superior credit & was looking for a car for my daughter around the $10,000 budget. We found a 2018 Nissan Sentra here & decided to go for it. After we bought the car the "Unavailable radar Obstruction" Notification kept popping up. Obviously there is an issue with the car! They even knew about it, it's been an ongoing issue with the 2018 models! I spoke to both Nissan & Hertz to resolve the issue. Nissan was willing to fix it, but since it was sold a defected car by Hertz they should foot the bill. Right? That's what Nissan said when I spoke to them. Unfortunately Hertz sat on their hands & kept giving excuses they were too busy, so I returned the car. The frustrating & down right not acceptable thing is they charged a re stocking fee. Can you believe it?! They had the gull to sell a defected car that needed to be fixed & they did nothing, then charged me to take their car back! The cherry on top, we have to wait 5-6 weeks for them to issue a refund for our deposit "money down." They are holding our money hostage so now we can't go & buy a new car elsewhere till we get our money back! These people! Stay clear of them! If corporate is reading this, you need to reimburse my re stocking fee since you guys sold a defective car!!! read more

SCAMMERS!!! In the business of kicking people when they are down. We dealt with them because we thought they were reputable, however that obviously is not the case. So absolutely frustrating!! Jeffrey Bersine was our sales person, he is a wolf in sheep's clothing. These people are complete scammers. We bought a car from them, gave a deposit, got required insurance and signed all the paperwork. Then they requested additional documentation after the fact. We cannot provide this documentation because there is a pandemic going on. Now they are demanding the car back and are telling us we will have to wait 6-8 weeks for our down payment back. They failed to hold up their end of the deal. We are a family who have gone trough many hard times and were so happy to have a nice car finally. We were going to take our son on a nice trip this summer but no longer can because we were scam. After all the pain and loss going on in this world and our lives especially, they have added to our pain. I always rented from them and was even in their loyalty club. Never again. It's no wonder they went bankrupt, I guess karma does exist after all. read more

This dealership is not worth working with. I called to inquire about a car, the price was right, new model, and the car had a great rating in KBB. However, I talked to 2 different dealers, and both were very rude. They talked over me, and both were not receptive at all when I requested to have the car inspected by PDX inspectors (they work in the field and come to the dealership). They told me that the cars are already inspected, and under a 1 year warranty, and most problems arise in cars in the first year. I disagreed, and asked again why I couldn't bring my own inspector. The salesman told me to buy a new car then, even after I explained that was out of my budget. I found the people at Hertz rude, condescending, and shady...any reputable dealer should not object to a non-invasive inspection. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

What an incredible car-buying experience! From the get-go, Maureen was pleasant to work with -- easy to talk to, not pushy at all, and went out of her way to make sure I was taken care of and satisfied. As a young, first-time car buyer, she could have tried to do the song and dance I have heard horror stories about, but instead I was treated with respect. The customer service was above and beyond what is expected; they replaced a worn front tire without question or charge and worked with me to fix an interest rate discrepancy (crediting me the difference right away). The biggest impression Scott, Maureen, Kevin and the team made on me was their driving 13 hours round trip to hand deliver my co-signer the paperwork needed to complete the purchase. DO NOT BUY A VEHICLE FROM THEM. THEY SELL UNSAFE CARS! My wife bought a Nissan Rouge from them that had the wrong sized tires. We found this out two weeks after purchasing. She sadly hit her tire on a curb and we had to get the tire replaced. No big deal. BUT when we took it to get fixed, the guy at discount tire co. was horrified that these tires were on this sized car. He stated it was very unsafe and the tires could have given out at any point while she was driving. He said the tires were new but were clearly put on because they were significantly cheaper than buying the right sized tires. We contacted Hertz and got all the documentation from the tire place verifying that the tires were the wrong size for the car. Hertz said they would get back to us when they looked at the papers but we never heard back. We have contacted many times and never got an answer. This is just one of many problems we have had with them. Our car only came with one key (they promised the second one was on the way but we never heard back) and the tire guy found rust on the car (we specifically asked about rust before purchase, the inspection stated no rust). We ended up having to buy all new tires since the other tires were the wrong size AND paying to fix the rust. We purchased this car in October 2019 and are still waiting for a response on all of the issues above. Avoid the headache and take your business elsewhere. read more

Since my temp registration expires and my car is my job my boss won't let me work. Big F up on Hertz part of you ask me. I'll never buy from them again for this reason. They took such great care of me; went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with my purchase and my purchasing experience. Janie, the sales person who handled my purchase was personable but professional. She made sure I had all the information and options I needed. The finance guy was fantastic! He didn't go with the first financing option, but found the best deal available for me. Then there were the little things: Hertz gives a free car rental for buying a car and they also gave me a prepaid FedEx package to send back paperwork they needed (so I wouldn't have to make an extra trip back from Vancouver, WA). The overall experience was very stressful and horrible. It was supposed to be fun and exciting to buy a car. I was worried of what was going to come up than finally getting the car! I looked at the car and test drove it on 6/3/13 then got it on 7/25/13! Hertz said we would have it within a couple of days or they would deliver it since we live about 3 hours away. The manager Scott was very rude and not helpful at all! He made me feel like I was working for him. It seemed like all he wanted was just the money. I've worked in customer service for 8 years now and this is not how you deal with things. You try to do anything for them to be happy and keep the business. He wanted me to miss work take me back to the dealer sign paperwork then drive back. I will NEVER go there and I will NEVER send anyone there either. The sales guy Kevin was okay, but he was always terrified to make a decision and I know it's because Scott is so crappy to deal with. Scott is a real piece of work alright. They would promise one thing then take it back days later. I'm glad the process is over. PEOPLE DONT GO HERE! Scott Satterlee was the worse sales person I've ever met and dealt with. This is not the first time I buy a car either!!! I had to give them a star because it wouldn't let me post without it, but really they don't even deserve that one star!!! They are horrid!!!!! I just got a letter from them and pissed me off again that I'm still seeing they're name, you best believe I did the survey. The entrance is super hard to find (it looks like a service entrance) and one feels as though they're trespassing. Even the entrance to the sales office (for lack of a better term) is unpleasant. I expected my car to be detailed and have a full tank of gas when I came to get it at the appointed time. No. Didn't happen. I drove off in a less than clean car with half a tank of gas. I also expected the paperwork to be ready since my salesperson knew when I'd be there with a cashier's check in hand. But, no. I ended up waiting over an hour. I also expected that since I live just 6 miles away that the salesperson would offer to come pick me up in my car to take delivery. No. When I called and asked if I should take Uber to come get my car I was told "...or you can leave your other car here and pick it up later." Really? Great customer service! Not! This upset me to the point that I actually visited two other dealerships on the way to pick up this car. But, they didn't have what I wanted so I bit the bullet and went ahead with this sale and waited over an hour for the paperwork to be ready. Geesh! I hope no one else experiences what I did. read more
