First, they let me schedule a test drive that worked for my schedule. Secondly, they were prepared when I showed up... the car was out front and ready to see. Lastly, the sales process was very low pressure and my sales rep (Dosy) worked with me to make the deal align with my needs. The person who processed my documents was very personable and kind as well. The loan process was straightforward and easy. They also purchased my old car and made the transfer process as seamless as possible. The dealership is clean and everyone is friendly and professional. They have a snack area in the back and the restrooms were clean. Not a fan at all of their business practices. We went in a few weeks ago. My husband saw a car he liked. He worked with an associate who answered questions over the phone as well as sent him videos of the car. He set up an appointment time and we drove an hour to get there. We got there, and they were showing the car to someone else who showed up to see it. While they were on the test drive, they tried to get us to buy it out from under them. We went on a test drive after they did, and it was obvious they were buying it when we got back. Then they tried the, "well, their financing might fall through. You should hang around until it's approved." Yuck! Cringy. They showed my hubby a few other cars online, but it was quite awkward and we just wanted to go. A different Ron Tonkin had another car for us to look at. The same day my husband was going to drive down, he got a call saying that someone needed a loaner, so they gave him the same car my hubby was going to see later that day. I only gave one star because I can't give zero stars. After my last experience with a Tonkin dealership, I vowed to never shop at Tonkin ever again. They did a hard inquiry twice on my credit, to try to divert me to a different financing company instead of the manufacturer financing at a low rate I was qualified for. When I called to discuss this with the sales manager, they put a person in the phone who gave me reason to believe he wasn't the sales manager. When I called Tonkin corporate, I found out I had been out on the phone with the lot attendant. Fast forward to this week, we're shopping for another car, and wanted to go through the costco auto buying program. They only work with one dealer in each region, and for some reason it's Tonkin(will be giving Costco feedback on this). Putting my hesitation aside, we got offer sheets and agreed on a price. Today, when we went in to test drive the car, we were informed there were two mistakes on the offer sheet (that the sales person said was double checked with a sales manager) and they said they wouldn't honor the price and we would have to renegotiate. After some back and forth with someone who stepped in for the salesperson, after we had been there for an hour and fifteen minutes, the person we were dealing with just basically stopped trying to make a deal and said that the car they had at the port was no longer available. The whole situation seemed very fishy and felt like a bait and switch situation. When I called in while we were on our way home and talked to Greg, the sales manager, he tried to tell me why the car was no longer available instead of acknowledging that it was a sleazy move to not even check on the availability of the vehicle from the start, especially since we were there to make a deal and with an offer sheet in hand that was less than 24 hours old. The Mistake on the offer sheet is slightly understandable, but also was bad customer service because they didn't attempt to meet us in the middle, (especially since the salesperson said a manager had signed off on the offer)but the wasting of our time and then trying to gaslight me that wasn't the situation was what was the last straw. Two times this dealership has done some lowball moves. I was willing to give them a second chance because of their participation in the costco buying program. There won't be a third chance. She is so kind and understanding and easy to talk to! The gentleman who did the financing, whose name I can't recall unfortunately, was so nice and already had everything done so that process only took like 10-15 minutes (part of that was me yakking !) If you are in need of a new car I cannot recommend this dealer highly enough! They even filled my tank, washed it again, and Liana actually took the time to walk through all the features and explain how things work. She even helped me clean out my trade in! I love my new car however make sure to shop around. Also the way they show the numbers is very misleading as they put "amount financed" rather than cost of the car. I'd absolutely avoid this dealership. Hyundai Beaverton has better deals and more transparency. Same exact vehicle 5k cheaper. Pretty much charged MSRP for an outgoing car and made it seem like I was getting a deal. Devon mentioned the original color + interior combo I was inquiring about "doesn't exist" (that was a lie) - IT DOES and is available at Beaverton Hyundai. When I asked why the price from other dealership had large discount Devon claimed that's for all these discounts like recent college grad, military discount, etc (that was a lie). Basically saying stuff I wouldn't be able to receive. But there are offering a discount because it's an outgoing model... Also Devon mentioned the reason why the color combo I ended up getting (green/black interior) was more expensive is because if the demand for it (that was a lie) Wild to turn off a customer that would had gotten serviced here and brought in car for anything going forward based on 4/5k upfront. Last time I step foot in this dealership. I'd highly suggest you do as well if you value transparency and value. The whole experience was pleasurable and made us feel good about the car, dealership, etc. However, they tripped up on sending our licensing info to the state so we are sitting here with a car we cannot drive tomorrow because we haven't received the plates/registration yet. If I hadn't noticed that the trip permit (temp registration) expired today my wife could get pulled over and ticketed for no registration, towed, etc. They assure us everything is being rushed to get them to us but...why didn't you send the darn form in? Talked to the manager (Jimmy) and he wanted to blame the credit union for funding the loan late, but it funded a week ago which should've triggered the license docs. . just got a new car a week ago. It's currently in the shop. And has spent more time there than actually being driven. I got a 2021 which is a 15 year difference in an upgrade from the old 2006 car I drove. 48 hours after taking it home my husband noticed my back blinkers are wrong and opposite from the front blinkers, and my check engine light came on. It was at the shop for 24 hours before they started working on it. over another 24 hours they called to tell us it's going to the Kia dealership cuz they don't have the blueprints for my car and don't know how to fix it. They also still don't know what wrong. Which is so alarming and disappointing when we were shown this long list of the service provided and updated on the car prior to being sold to us. Obviously not true, don't find them trustworthy or honest anymore. Would leave zero stars if I could. They also just informed us they forgot to have us sign some papers and need us to come back in. My husband and I work every opposite schedules & genuinely do not have the time for that. It's also like that was the whole point of getting me a newer/ reliable car since we both really need one. We went to Gresham to buy a new vehicle, even though another dealership was closer. Overall, it was a good experience. Our salesman, Seth was very nice and helped us quite a bit by going to another dealership to pick up the exact color we wanted. They matched the price by the other dealer. When we talked final numbers, there was a charge for cilajet, a coating they put on the seats and paint. We had made it clear we did not want that from the beginning but they charged us $1495, because the other dealer had put it on, but took the price down when we objected. The following day, Mark Harris, the manager called us to see if we were happy with our experience and my husband again told him about the cilajet. Mark made a good compromise with us, so in the end it wasn't that important. We are waiting for a partial refund check from them. We enjoyed Hamid, our financing was very easy since our credit is excellent and he went through our credit union. All the people we talked to have been very pleasant. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it takes hours to complete the process, it would be awesome if somehow buying a car could be quicker! I should also mention we traded in a vehicle and was given a decent trade in value. The car was definitely worth more, but the convenience of trading it in was best for us. This place is a JOKE!! They take advantage of you. They fail to provide you with the proper things you need for your car. I bought a 2016 Volkswagen Golf EV. They gave me INLY a home charger. And told me that it would be sufficient. Car was plugged in and charged Dor over 24 hours and would not get above 45. Although I was told it would only take 12 hours to get a full charge. Then I was told they would give me a new battery and an adaptor to be able to go to a charging station. They have yet to do it. Then they call me asking me to call the bank and give them a good review. I would NOT recommend this place to even my worst enemy!! STAY CLEAR!! Also, beware of Scott Gonzales. They lie to you as well. Daniel Roper is the ONLY one to reach out to me and worked with me until I got a resolution I was happy with. Someone came and picked up the car and they refunded my money. I purchased a 2017 Hyundai Tucson and I didn't even have it for 2 weeks and it didn't pass state emissions. I put 2K down on that car and had a great monthly payment. But I returned the car because they were only going to replace the catalytic converter. I wanted an inspection for that vehicle to know if there wasn't any underlying issues. I ended up getting a 2019 Honda Fit. Which I did not want. I wanted a Honda Accord or Honda Civic. They showed me a Honda Accord but I would have to do another thousand down. But then with this Honda Fit in the paperwork it says 3K down I had to pay them a thousand. They made me put a service contract and gap on it so they could "make up their money" they already got 2 times the amount of money from taking the last car only as a trade in. I should've gotten a refund for my down payment and everything since it's state law that it's supposed to pass emissions/inspection. I called the third party on cancellation of the service contracts and I sent that in Feb and it's still active. The Fit is a wonderful car but it is not worth having that much of a monthly payment. read more

Part #2 Called the manager as instructed by the "costumer service representative", i was never able to talk to the general manager, i can only imagine he/she is too busy to take calls. But anyways i was helped by the assistant to the service manager, he told me the only solution was to put my car in to the good will program, and a couple days later they called me and said tht my car didn't qualify for it, due the car is out of warranty. I know the car is a 2016, but the motor they installed "new" was only 2 years old. Also they never offered a warranty on the motor when installed. Anyways ron tonkin is not in the business of giving out free motors. Or helping a costumers tht were scam by his dealerships. selling me a car with a "new engine" that failed 2 years later!! Furthermore, we encountered issues with voucher redemption and military discount eligibility. refused to honor the voucher we had been given, citing that the vehicle was from a sister lot. Similarly, declined to apply the military discount, stating that it was "not their car" to offer the discount on. We spent several hours at the dealership, and despite our efforts to negotiate a satisfactory deal, we were ultimately disappointed by the finance process. I went in to get a electric car. Called the dealership ahead of time due to the fact I don't have a lot of free time I wanted to see what I would qualify for without wasting anyone's time. I was told there was 5-10 cars I would be able to choose from when I came in the following day. I was then given one car which happened to be the more expensive one and I liked it but needed to think on it honestly. I was not given a true car fax on the car the car was having issues with the front end and I knew it was so the next day I took it back and was told by 5 people I just wasnt use to a ev and that's what I was feeling. Well lone behold a week later I get a updated car fax sent to me via email and it shows the damage done to the car. Well let me just say the car I am now somehow stuck paying 30k for is a car that appears to have been rolled/totaled and they bought it from the auction. You do the math on that one not quite a fair buy if you ask me so now I'm stuck with the car and I am not going to be able to back out on it. Its already showing signs of issues in major ways in suspension and drive line as it has from day one but I'm just not use to a ev right? Well I'm not a stupid girl I just make stupid decisions too fast and this is one! I will say my one star is for Hamid the man in financing he got me a great interest rate for my bad credit and was a nice man to work with. The sales people should have picked up on the fact we were going to carry my wife's mobility scooter with the trailer hitch we kept talking about having installed. The car is worthless for this purpose. They should have steered us toward a Santa Cruz. Wish they would take it back as a trade in on a different more appropriate vehicle. Was asked for my drivers license to test drive and Matt from Texas took my drivers license and ran my credit without telling me and I got a lame excuse that it was a soft pull. No they were actually hard inquiries. Don't tell someone that one hit doesn't affect your credit. It's the principle of the matter. On top of that they wouldn't show me the cars I was interested in. I wanted to check out a Sonata N line and they said they could have the car sent over and then I was told it was unavailable. When I left I called the Gladstone location and guess what it was available. Huge waste of time. I think that's actually a first for me. Came here because of there event and what a crock of crap. Found a used 2024 car I liked online and traveled an hour to come check it out. Checking out the outside, the car had obviously been in multiple incidents that created large blemishes at multiple points. When I opened the car door I was hit with a huge cigarette smell. I then found loose Oxycontin sitting in plain sight on the base of the shifter. I asked for $500 off the price because of these things. As the (superb, kind, and persuading salesman, Ian) went to the back to request the discount - myself and the other customers could hear loud anger from the manager. The manager, Todd, then decided to come out and ream me in the most condescending and rude way in front of all the other customers and my family member. I was absolutely astonished. I would not be letting this guy anywhere near customers if I were his supervisor. Honestly, if I could give this dealership 0 stars with this review, I would. I prefer handling any issues with a company directly, but after leaving multiple messages with staff to speak with any manager, I have not heard back from anyone. Overall (in case you don't want to read the essay/TED Talk below), the staff at Ron Tonkin Hyundai in Gresham severely lacked empathy and were predatory in their sales tactics. I understand sales is their job, but I believe they should listen to the customer once the customer has said "no" more than 4-5 times. That, mixed with being given misinformation and not receiving followup multiple times, I would highly discourage going to this dealership. I am a newly single mom and have never bought a car on my own before. I'd recently been in a car accident that totaled my car, so I was pretty nervous and emotional. I shared this with the salesman, Mike McClure. When I said I would check out the car and let him know the next day if I wanted it, he got upset. He said he'd just drove across town to another dealership, under the impression I was buying it today. I told him I'd said that I'm ready to buy a car, but I hadn't even seen it yet. That didn't mean I was 100% in. He continued to make comments about hoping I "make the right choice" as we looked at and test drove the car. I felt very pressured. I embarrassedly ended up deciding to buy the car, mostly because I did feel pressured and felt bad that Mike was annoyed he'd driven to get this car for me to see. I own that this was my fault and that I should have stood my ground with wanting to wait and think about it. However, I still don't appreciate the comments he made and don't feel they were appropriate. The finance manager was the worst part and has continued to be the worst part. I originally declined the service warranty they offered with the used car. Mike tried to convince me a few times to get it, until I was actually crying, and he finally stopped. When it was time to finish the paperwork with Tyson Cooper, he continued to encourage the warranty. I said no multiple times to him - I lost count after 5 or 6 times. I cried here too, but he didn't stop. Eventually, I gave in, and I agreed to get the warranty. Within a half hour of leaving the dealership, I called him back and asked that we remove the warranty. I told him I'd said no many times and felt pressured into the decision. He continued to question my decision but eventually sent me the cancellation form. Within a few weeks of canceling my service warranty, I received a refund check in the mail. It was not for the warranty, because that was simply deducted from my loan balance. I called Tyson to ask what it was. He said they "probably overcharged" me for something, "maybe the DEQ fees." I asked him if he could check and confirm that, to make sure I was still set to get my license plates. He said he'd check and let me know if it would affect that. He said if I didn't hear from him, I was set and everything was good. He never called me back. Two months go by, and I still have not received my license plates. I called Tyson again and asked him for an update on the status of my plates. He said I should be receiving them any day. Despite my discomfort with him, I took him on his word with that. Finally, a week before my trip permit was set to expire, I called the DMV to check on the status of my plates. They informed me that the dealership had crossed out the license plates and only paid for my registration. Despite being told multiple times by Tyson that my plates would be ordered by the dealership and that I'd be receiving them, it turned out this wasn't true. I originally chose to shop for a car at Ron Tonkin because it's a household name in the area, and I figured that meant I could trust them. This entire experience has been very disheartening during an already difficult time in my life. I hope these staff members can improve their customer service in the future so no one else has to experience this. read more

The Dick Hannah service center on 122nd is far superior in customer service. For one I tried to reach someone for 2 days about a known Hyundai Sonata issue. They said the only thing they could do is do diagnostics and charge me $160 to do so. Because my alarm is going off when trying to charge my battery. They wouldn't let me speak to a tech. You always get to speak to a tech at the Dick Hannah service center. Also Mary- the person I spoke to came off rude. I ended up hanging up on her. The person in sales who emailed me was nice though. (Also Mary said she had the wrong email- I just find this funny when sales and the internet manager both emailed me)... To be clear the only reason I reached out to them is because my regular service center has a staffing shortage and unfortunately wouldn't be able to look at my car for 6 weeks. Which I just unfortunately can't do. But I definitely won't be doing business with this location- ever. read more

I'm not going to leave names because they're generally nice people, just incompetent. Great cars, just the worst car buying experience ever. If you're buying a new car, you might not have any problems. For a used car, these guys will tell you whatever they think you want to hear. Be ready for them to play hardball when "negotiating" the price, and know that as soon as you make the payment, they don't give a rats a** about what happens afterwards. After test driving a used car that was the only model & trim of its kind in Portland a few weeks ago, I came in on a Monday to make the purchase. Whole thing took 7 hours, though I guess 3 hrs should be taken away since I requested to do a pre-purchase inspection, which found a ton of problems with the car that they did not mention at all when discussing the vehicle. Would they have really made the fixes they made if I hadn't done the inspection? I'll never know. So ok, they're going to fix 80% of the problems we found (the other 20% was menial or inaccurate). "Come back tomorrow, it'll be ready" they said. I come by Tuesday, wait another hour, ask about the progress and hear "it'll be ready soon." Another 2 hours of waiting later, they bring the car out and they didn't install a piece of the car that they've been saying they'll install for about 2 weeks (since the test drive). The car has not been detailed as promised (as part of the deal), and their detailer only comes in early in the morning. If you knew the detailer's not there on Tuesday afternoon, why didn't you just say so & save me 5 hrs (2 hrs roundtrip and 3 hrs of waiting)? I suck it up & come back on Wednesday; the car has been "detailed," but obviously a rush job, it still wasn't clean enough but the car was so filthy before that idgaf at this point - I'll clean the nooks & crannies myself. The salesmen I've been dealing with are not there (their day off, no heads up on Tuesday - 'not my problem' mentality). The car piece still hasn't been installed. Another gentleman working there tells me that piece must first be sent to a factory, painted to match the car, then dried before it can be installed - it'll take several days. Wtf? This piece was missing since the test drive 2 weeks ago, the replacement part was sitting in the passenger seat the whole time, & they've been saying it just needs to be installed and only takes a few minutes. I took the car home without the missing piece. I'll have to drive 2 hrs round trip again when they call me the part's ready (whenever that is, no idea). I dread going back... how long will I wait this time? What will be missing this time? I asked again and again to make sure they have it installed. They said again and again that it'll be done. It wasn't. How can I trust them again? I love Hyundai, but this Ron Tonkin dealership gives zero f**ks about your valuable time & they definitely don't care about you. Avoid if you can. If you cannot, make sure you are thorough, ask questions, and don't give them a penny until you are satisfied, because they will bend you over and... UGH. WORST DEALERSHIP EVER. read more

This review is past due. I purchased a 2018 Hyundai Elantra back in July. I had gone to several car dealerships, including Ron Tonkin Honda. At the Honda place I felt extremely pressured. We weren't able to make a deal and the manager was very upset that I refused to buy, also they asked many personal questions about my finances, how often do I go out to eat. They told me I should stop eating out! Anyways, Ron Tonkin Hyundai on the other hand was AMAZING. Incredibly friendly. I had very certain parameters and needs and he jumped through so many hoops to help me. The store is in Gresham and I live in Vancouver.
