So when you rent a car you expect a few simple things. A car that is reliable and that is legal to drive. Not very difficult. Cars here can get you pulled over for expired registration. They also don't run very well. As you drive hoping not to get pulled over the vehicle is beeping and screaming PLEASE HELP ME I NEED MATENENCE. Which makes you feel a little bad for the car because it is obviously mistreated. So fast forward to drop off. Frank recieved the vehicle. After being told of the issues. His response was. "You should have brought the vehicle back" "The vehicle doesn't need maintenance" The right response should have been: "Oh my gosh the tags are expired!, sorry about that." "Thanks for letting us know about the maintenance we will be sure to get right on that.." Frank was arrogant and unaccountable. My answer was simple, yes the car needs maintenance the dashboard is beeping and screaming it. Your a car rental company, you should make sure the cars are legal to drive before you start renting them out. So the moral of the story is this: If you want to get pulled over or brake down somewhere I would encourage you to give Frank a call. read more

Location was a little congested with cars it makes you worry about scratching other cars you pass that are parked. Rude lady at the counter told me off that I was too early to pick up the car so she had us wait. We received the car and it smelt bad and it was dirty!!! I booked a car online and went to pick it up. It was mid week and mid day so there was no one there. This rent a car shares a space with the dealership so it's a bit tricky to get to the rental spot. Driving there is really tight. I forgot the guys name but he was very nice and helped me out right away. Taking off a star because the car reeked of cigarette smoked. On the way out after getting the car there was a asian couple hosing down the other cars and would just not move for me to leave. I literally had to wait for them to finish hosing down a couple cars and then they moved the hoses so I could pass. So weird. read more

I rented a car at this location multiple times when I need a smaller vehicle to take dad to his appointments. I have a large SUV and it's hard for dad to get in and out of my vehicle. I always get a good experience here at this location. Staff are friendly and this location always had the cars I needed even for last minute rentals. I especially like dealing with Hiwot, who is an angel and she goes above and beyond the call of duty. I appreciate her helping me feel comfortable to drive my first electric car and she showed me how to navigate, which made me feel at ease. I had a rental car from this establishment for 2 days and was charged $346. ,so I went to talk to the manager and he confirmed that they made a mistake and will be refunded $236,that was 1/14/19 .He said i will get the refund in5 days. The only refund i got was $70 and that was because of the satellite radio that Was included in the bill,that I did not requested. This place is Super busy on Mondays. I had walked in about 9AM and the place is filled with people waiting. I had gone to another Hertz in Fremont and shared my experience about the Hayward branch and was told Monday's are usually their busiest time and if I can come back the next day, it wouldn't be as busy. Since I'm only there to get a rental car as a loaner while my car is in the shop, I don't mind holding off on taking in my car to the Auto Body Shop just yet and waited the next day. Next day, there were no lines. I had asked for a full size car if possible since I have two car seats that I needed to transfer, They had taken care of me with a really nice car and it was still under my AAA rental agreement budget (I think it was $25 a day). read more

I went to this location because it was closest to where I live. Little did I know that this RENTAL CAR SERVICE would not NOT HAvE ANY CARS FOR ME TO RENT. They asked that I wait for more people to return cars. Not a chance. i would have to wait for the car to be retuned and they would give me a car that they haven't had the chance to clean or check fluids on. I am not ok with that. This is the WORST Hertz I have ever been to. I arrived at 8:05am and was third in line. The one Rep kept taking phone calls ahead of all 8 of us in line. I mentioned it to the rep twice and explained how customer service works and you take down numbers and call customers back of you have people waiting in line, as they came before the calls came in. But the hispanic rep DID NOT care one bit! It took me one full hour to get assistance - at 9am they finally got to me when a 2nd rep joined in and also felt it was fine to take reservations on the phone and make the customers in line wait even longer!! I now brought this up with 2 reps and they both kept taking calls and making the line of customers wait- SO UNPROFESSIONAL!! ***WARNING*** STAY AWAY FROM HERE. HUGE SCAMMERS. Overcharged the rental once we returned it. Long story: Our total was $381.74 and was billed the same day when we picked up the rental. Fast forward to return day, as soon as we handed back the keys and drove all the way home, we got charged an extra $581.74???? What the fuck. Spoke to the manager, David, over the phone and asked what was the reason for the charge and he didn't know? You're the manager, you should know or call someone who does. I looked at the receipt and NOTHING says $581.47. I wish I looked at reviews before renting from here. After reading others, a majority of people spoke to David and asked for a refund but the money was never returned. Going to the bank and CALL CORPORATE. Been waiting forever to check in and they can't even let me use the bathroom, seriously? Good thing I have a credit card, poor lady ahead of me got turned away from renting a car. If you don't have a cc, they will run your credit score through equifax. If you score less than 600, they won't let you rent a car. They do not take cash deposits. Overall, the customer service is okay. High-Five for having good credit, for the free pick up from house to get the car, and for my upgrade :) would have given an extra star if they let me use the bathroom when I needed to go. The bottom line is we needed a car ASAP, if that was not the case we would have looked around for a longer time. Hertz has many cars to offer, problems are however that its a given- all the cars are used, and the one we wanted was very damaged from previous drivers, and the price was still the same as one that was in better shape. The sales person was very nice and helped with everything. Just make sure when you pick your car all the parts are there. We had a missing trunk piece and a missing driver sun visor had to drive back a couple times to get all the pieces. read more

I've gone through this location at least 6-8 times now and each and every single time I'm here for no less than one hour.... even when there's no one else in line! Their cars are always smelly and dirty on the inside and their definition of washing the exterior is spraying it down with water. Customer service is a hit or miss. The worst service ever!!! They don't deserve even 1 Promised me a pick up at 10:30 AM, my reservation time, and without a call, had me standing outside until 10:50. When I was annoyed about the lack of communication or phone call and asked for an apology, the driver, Larry, put the car in park and stared at me! Very threatening. I then got to the office and the staff never even acknowledged me and I didn't get out of there until 11:50 with an upgraded, but filthy vehicle. I had to clean my own car: white crusty spillage by the shifter, the outside was so dirty I had to take it to the car wash on my own dime, but before that I had to go home and use windex on the windows because they were so filthy, the inside door panel had sticky splashed on it, the touch screen had finger prints all over it, and there was an empty peanut snack bag in the door panel! Then, I needed to extend my rental for one day, from a Saturday drop-off to a Sunday drop-off. Oh, but wait, they're closed Sunday. I called the 1-800 number and for only 1 days' fee they said I could drop off Monday. Monday, I roll in and they're closed for Labor Day! I again called corporate and they opened a case for me on my issue. When we were finally able to return the car, the rudest, most non-customer service people, weak and feckless, told us that it was OUR fault, didn't acknowledge our open case and took our money for the extra 2 days we didn't need! Don't rent here!!! You'll be mad and disappointed. 9/10/19 I just spoke to the corporate office. They are issuing me a refund of $86.84, the amount of overcharge. Screw you, rude staff!!!! Worst customer service ever! I had a AAA reservation to pick up yesterday and they said it would be around 3pm. I called at 2:15 and they said it would be more like 3:30 now, since I had an appointment I asked if I could pick up first thing in the morning and they said that was fine and I could pick up at 9 when they open. I arrived around 9:20 and the poor woman working was alone, having to run the counter AND go out and clean cars when customers came to pick up. I waited for almost 20 minutes for them to deal with the ONE customer ahead of me. David arrived and asked for my name, and interestingly they didn't have a car for me!! They never called to let me know or anything so I had to get a ride down there for nothing. I told him I would be calling AAA to see if I could just go to enterprise, so he starts offering me cars that are waiting to be returned or that need oil changes "real quick". THEN a car gets turned in that isn't a comparable size, so my option at this point were a yaris, wait for an oil change, or wait for someone to return one and get cleaned. HORRIBLE experience!! Received friendly service at this location following a front-bumper collision that rendered me without a vehicle for a month. Extremely dissapointed at the end to receive a fraudulent bill charging me for a vehicle upgrade and pre-filled tank of gas. When I requested to speak with the initial employee, she claimed I received these services (I neither received nor requested any of the sort). Was told by my insurance that I had to get a rental from Hertz while my car was being fixed. Process was fairly quick. Customer service was not overly wonderful but they weren't rude and got the job done. So they put me in a 2013 Nissan Altima. I noticed a perfume smell right off the bat, but assumed it was from the lady that had driven it to be washed (aka rinsed off real quick). But soon realized that want the case. The smell didn't fade, it only got stronger. Almost like someone had spilled the entire bottle in the car. I noticed pretty quickly that the car was very loud, louder than any new car should be. It was hard to keep it from pulling to the right as well. Easy to tell the car had been driven hard in its short life. It was already at almost 60,000 miles. It sucked gas like there was no tomorrow, too. The final straw for me was when it started to rain. The wipers left the worst smear across the windshield. I couldn't see! I made it home safe, thankfully. The rain wasn't bad, it only lasted a minute. Just long enough to stress me out. First thing this morning I took that car right back and told the guy he may want to have the wipers and rest of the car checked out before he attempted to rent it out again. He kind of laughed it off. Won't be laughing when that car is the reason someone gets hurt. I ended up getting a rental from my dealership this morning and am finally confident that my family will survive while we wait for our car to be repaired. Don't use this Hertz. And if you do, dont let them put you in the red 2013 Altima. Lastly, they told me they would charge a $50 deposit to my debit card. What they failed to say is that they were putting a hold on every last penny in my bank account. Friendly staff. Quick service. Hassle free. My insurance set me up here while I was between cars. I walked in, and drove off with a car within about 15 minutes! The agents there were all friendly, and got me on my way asap. They even marked up the damage (misc scratches) on the checkoff form for me, which is something I always hate doing myself. I ended up with a 2012 Nissan Versa. Not too bad for my insurance's $25/day max! It was of course a pretty base model, but I was happy to not have to be rollin in a Ford Fiesta or something similar. When I returned the car, things were just as friendly and hassle free. I was in and out within 10 minutes this time, and they gave me a ride home! I hope I won't ever need a rental car near home again, but if for some reason I do, I would not hesitate to come back here. read more

The employees here at this location, does not do their job and you will pay for it. Make sure you document everything you do with them including the people you talk to. Be prepared to pay fees you were not notified of, and then they will not waive the fee. The car given to me smelled of cigarette smoke, was not cleaned, and the fuel tank was not full. This place is okay at best. Renting the car initially was okay. THey allowed me to pick between a Kia Optima or nissan and I chose the Kia. The Kia was very dirty (to say it nicely), cigarette bud in the back seat with a children's book and stained seats. Besides the dirty car the customer service to get the car was good. Returning the car was more annoying, waited like 20-30 minutes just to be able to return. When I told them my experience they gave me a credit for a rental of future use which was nice of the rep to try and provide good service. Overall is okay at best, they can definitely improve in overall quality but not the worst place ive been to. read more

Well, this was certainly not the first time I've rented a car but it is the first time I used Hertz. After waiting too long at the counter while the staff answered all of the phone calls before helping any of us, I finally was helped by a young woman who said it wasn't her job but she was just helping out. An hour after arriving I was walked out to what I was told was my car. A dirty little Nissan. I told the woman that it was dirty and she handed me the key. I should have known that there was something wrong because all four of the windows were wide open. I drove the car home and locked it up. The next morning I got into the car and about choked on the smell of weed. It was so overwhelming that there was no way to drive with the windows up. I called Hertz. They never apologized. They said if I wasn't happy with the car I would need to drive it to the airport to exchange it. I told them I really didn't want to spend my day off fixing their mistake. They said the only other option was to go get it washed and to buy some Febreeze. They offered $50 for the wash and $10 for the Frebreeze. Of course all of their local shops are closed on the weekends. When I went to the store the man who helped me out with my purchases commented on the heavy pot smell coming from the car. When I took the car back finally on Monday the salesman commented that I must have had some fun that weekend. Ummm no. It came that way. I will never use Hertz again. read more

I've become a frequent customer of this Hertz location, and because of my continued business and being a Hertz Gold member this location accommodates my needs, which I really appreciate given my previous review of this place--I see the improvement! The prices are a bit better. I still would love them to update their lobby so there's a physical thing to point to that shows they are improving, because I believe they are. Worst experience ever. After years of working with this location, the slacking started to show. I requested a mid-size/standard car and received compact/intermediate. When asking if this was a mid-size because it seemed a little small, I was told yes. When questioning the issue, they said I would have to wait longer because they didn't have the car I was initially requested. The vehicle had expired tags and was dirty. DON'T RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. First, i booked online for an intermediate SUV to use for snow. I called their 1-866 number to make sure that what the website is saying is what im getting. They confirmed it, i booked it. When i got to this place, the manager himself, DAVID, said that the website is wrong. I did tell him about the call i made to make sure im booking the right vehicle. He insisted i should have just went directly to him to ask. He ended saying the suv i booked cant be used in snow, i have to upgrade to a BIGGER AND MORE EXPENSIVE vehicle, or i dont rent at all. And thats my only choice. Since i have hotel booked, its late afternoon, i already Uber to this place thinking i booked the right car, i didnt have a choice but to get the suv he offered, he even said its his last one when the parking lot was full. 2. When he was handing me the vehicle, the man who cleans the rentals said he hasnt cleaned the one im getting. DAVID, the manager said, its done and ready. The cleaning man had a baffled look but looked away when DAVID the manager looked his way. 3. The vehicle i got reeked of marijuana. When i picked it up, the window on the driver side was open, and i drove with it open since i like "listening" to the sounds the vehicle makes when its my first time to use it. Parked the suv, locked it. Didnt touch it again until we were leaving the next morning. Morning comes, opened the vehicle and we were hit with the smell of pot. At 4am, you cant call this place and complain. We had to use odor neutralizers just to be able to use the car and go about our trip 4. The gas tanks on their vehicles are rigged! I went to fill up gas before returning the car, because i know they charge 1000x the most expensive gas rate in the area. The nozzle stopped twice, which means it was full. I went about my way to return it, but on the road i looked at the gas meter and it was short of a quarter! Whaaatt?!?!? And when i was at the desk returning the vehicle, when i told this to the attendant, every body in that office looked at me, even the ones who were going about their own business. They all know something is up. That proved the tanks are rigged so they can charge you more. TO THINK THIS PLACE IS RECOMMENDED BY AAA, THEY MUST HAVE PAID AAA DEARLY FOR THAT.
