I got a rental car from Thursday through Saturday as I'm driving the rental car when I picked it up I noticed a crack in the windshield. I took it right back up there just to hear the manager tell one of the employees that he knew about it but the customer didn't know about it and they take pictures that they supposed to send you but they never sent it to you and then To found out that the Manager already knew about the crack, but if I would never saw it, I feel like they was gonna try to charge me for damage to the vehicle so they didn't have anything else to replace the vehicle so I was told to come back the next day, but then I was told to call first, but nobody never answered the phone so they took my number down and was supposed to call me when they open so I'll be available to get a rental that was returned overnight going on 2 o'clock. Nobody called me. I ended up going back up there just to sit there and wait for almost an hour to hear angry customers coming in and out and then on top of that just to get turned around again now I have a rental car with the glass that started off with me seeing a whole now it's spreading and I'm still stuck with it customers. Please pay attention to your rental before you pull off in it because the pictures that they take we don't know that the car have a scratch or anything because they're not gonna send you the pictures so you'll be better off taking your own pictures. Because I really feel like if I would've never saw the glass with the damage already done to it, they was gonna try to charge me for that and then on top of that these cars don't even be getting cleaned out right I found Old water bottles under the seat some type of stuff from somebody that was camping under the seat, baby oil under the seat and built up dust that look like it could be cat hairs I get a rental every week or every other week but now I'm gonna take my money elsewhere. like this, hertz is a joke from some of the workers that will have a argument in front of customers manager talking about customers in front of other customers instead of helping his customer with they concern, you sit there and be unprofessional so now I'm looking at it if they could sit here and talk about this customer what they saying about me when I leave in every other customer the same customers that come here and spend their money with you. Worst customer service you'll ever encounter, plain and simple. I made an online reservation this morning when my car broke down (again). I would have just kept using the UHaul I was renting the week before, but sadly they ran out of trucks. Anyway, I come in to pick it up at 5, and the lady at the desk is rude from the start. Looks for any way to disqualify me from getting into a vehicle. I try and pay with my debit card, she says there is a 500$ deposit required. Exorbitant, but I can handle it. Then she looks at my reservation again and says I can't pay with a debit card at all, because I made the reservation less than 24 hours ago. What does that have to do with my form of payment? I'm still giving you over 1000$. So I say that's fine, and ask her to push my reservation until tomorrow so I am outside the 24 hour window. (I'm young and I don't have a credit card with a high enough limit to out the full amount on. Did I mention the 132$ young driver fee?) She says she can't modify the reservation, and that I have to do that online. Fine. I go online and I get an error message every time I press "Edit Reservation." I show her these errors, and get this... she asks me to call customer service. While I am in the store! Hertz has outsourced customer service to another country, so I call the number and it takes another 15 minutes to actually get through to somebody. Hertz is almost closed now. The customer service rep on the phone is difficult to understand, puts me on hold multiple times, and is unwilling to address the root cause of the issue - that being that Hertz is refusing to take my perfectly good money. Then, and only then, 5 minutes before close, the lady at the desk (who has been on the phone with her partner this entire time) points to a sign, which I photographed and attached. On 5/22/2021 I reserved a car from Hertz in Rockford IL. I received my conformation that I would have a car on 6/10/2021 . After flying into Ohare from TX, and a bus ride to RKFD I arrived at Hertz to pick up my rental . I was told that due to the CoVid crisis there was no car available. When asked why I had not been notified about this no one could give me an answer . The customer service people were unfriendly, and offered no help to me what so over . When I arrived at van Galder I called to see if Hertz had a pick up shuttle I was maybe two blocks from them. I was told no they don't have shuttles on Saturday..on a 4th weekend? so I had to push two suit cases up the street, when I get there the outside is full of trash everywhere (see pics) I go to get in my rental the outside of the car had not been cleaned at all! (See pics) I open the car door and instantly got hit with a horrible odor! I go back into the office and told them the car has not been cleaned and it smells. Mariah tells me we vacuum it and we are short staffed. She gives me a different car same as before (see pics)car is not cleaned!.. I tell them the same thing again Mariah tells me I can take it to the car wash.. as I'm driving the rental it starts to rain wipers need to be changed front and back. I reserved a car online through Priceline with Hertz. After driving off the lot, I realized the car had not been cleaned. This rental car had a smoke film on the window. Upon returning the car, I was charged an additional $400 for smoking in the vehicle, and I DO NOT SMOKE. After reaching out to them, and the corporate office, social media, and finally the BBB, Hertz has still refused to provide proper documentation/dated pictures or respond to me. They told me they would be reviewing the case and offered a free rental. Why would I ever rent from such a fraudulent company again? Maybe we will contact the news now to inform people of this SCAM! Reserved my car online no problem, paid online no problem, went to pick up, not too much of a problem except the $200.00 hold they put on your card that I wasn't aware of. Okay, I get it. Come in this morning to return. The place opens at 7:30, I arrive at 7:21 and see that the place is already open and people walking in. So I gather my things and walk in. I wait at the counter for a few minutes and finally a female that's just standing around tells me, "we don't open for another 7 minutes". I say Ok and walk outside for about four minutes, and I look and see that a different lady is at the desk and helping a customer that I just watched walk in, so I walk back in. I am patiently waiting in line and watching the first female just kind of walk around doing nothing. After a couple minutes she finally goes and sits at a desk and says to me, "ok, we are open now". :O are you kidding me????? I handed her the car keys and say I am dropping off. She acts all surprised, and says "oh, that's it, you want your receipt printed or emailed". I wanted to scream at her, but I didn't. Just made a mental note, that I will never rent from Hertz again. I am very disappointed in my rental experience with Hertz. I had requested a full size SUV and when my husband went to pick it up he was given a minivan because apparently the tires on all the SUVs were slashed the night before. To top it off, the minivan was dirty on the inside and out; not acceptable any time, but really unacceptable during COVID. I was told I would not be charged the SUV rate, however, after 4 calls to the main customer service line and promised a refund....I still have not received the refund. On average the hold time to speak to a representative was over 30 minutes. How much of my time must I waste to get the credit I was told would be issued? I will NEVER rent a car from the Rockford Hertz location ever again and am very unlikely to use Hertz anywhere. read more

So impressed by these guys. So helpful and considerate. I came in to drop off my rental, stressed out because I was running late for my bus to the airport. Also, right before I dropped off the car, I noticed on my receipt that I had been charged for insurance I hadn't agreed to, and I figured it was just going to have to pay it because I should have looked more closely when I picked up the car... Anyway, I brought it up, and Chris quickly looked into it for me, took it off my bill, and then, perceiving that I was stressed out and running late, offered to give me a ride to the bus station. I gave them 3 chances and 2 of them were HORRIBLE! This time we had paid for the rental in full prior to our trip. Our pick up time was for 4pm on a Wed so we could pack the car and leave at 2am. We arrived at 4:10 (last time we had to wait 45 mins for them to get our car ready!) We arrived and the door was locked. I called every Hertz number and couldn't get a live person. Website said Closed at 6pm. Sign on the door said new Covid hours 8-4pm. When I showed up at 8am the manager Edgar Muriuo took no accountability, said their hours had changed a month or more ago due to Covid. I stated I had paid in full and not received one phone call that said their hours had changed or an email that said be sure to arrive prior to 4pm. He said if my pick up was at 4pm I should have arrived by 3:45. I said really last time I had to wait 45 mins for my car to get ready! He said that is how this operations works. I said NO you haven't changed your website hours, you didn't call and now we are 6 hours behind on our trip! He then gave us a very nasty and I mean dirty dodge van not what we paid for (he was happy to say that when you reserve you know you many not get the van you wanted-site says or similar) mind you the Chrysler van WAS on the lot, he said it was under contract and the dodge that is smaller was all he had. At this time I just needed to get on the road. I get the car to my house we find a fake finger nail on the floor as we started to pack, dirt in every storage compartment- we had to completely wipe down the entire car it had not been cleaned and with Covid you aren't taking any extra steps! We go to pull out of the drive and our check oil light came on. To be honest I have no idea if it was on when I left the parking lot. We had no windshield wiper fluid and had to stop to put that in. My husband filled it and then we got back on the road and nothing was coming out on the front wipers. We stopped again and see the hose is totally off. My husband and my father fix that and we refill once again. Upon my return Edgar says oh you missed your pick up on Friday correct and got your car Sat. I said no you left without reaching out to me on Wed letting me know of your hour changes and we had to leave on Thursday! Edgar then states he would like to give me a $40 refund. Really $40! We paid how much for our hotel room that we didn't get to until 11:00pm when our arrival was for 4pm! I do think there is only one person currently working at the Hertz on Walton in RKFD and that is Edgar, the entire store is a mess, the store has not been cleaned and the cars are gross! Edgar has zero customer service and refused to say sorry or take any accountability of them closing up shop and not reaching out to us for our paid car rental. As of today 6 days since we returned the nasty van there has been no credit. Our $200 security deposit hold is no longer there however nothing for their vacation ruin they caused us. NEVER EVER RENT FROM HERTZ in RKFD! They should be closed down. read more

I asked him how it was possible for me to make a reservation if he had no cars available, and (surprise, surprise) he tried to BS me with double-talk. Word of advice, Hertz. I have been standing here at the Hertz desk now for over 30 minutes waiting to pick up my reserved car. There are no Hertz employees in sight. They don't close for an hour but don't see the need to keep an employee at the counter. I am President's Circle and use Hertz all over the country and have never had such a bad experience. I called Hertz's national call center to set up a car rental for an insurance claim. I talked to a very polite gentleman that guided me through the procedures and answered all my questions. I decided on renting a ford explorer. I was given a confirmation number along with a review of the rental car policies and a price for including all taxes and fees per day . The next day I received a call from Chris at Hertz. The price I was told by Chris was $10 more per day then quoted through the national call center. He told me I could rent the next class down for the price I was quoted !?!? How this happens is beyond me, but I will not rent from this location and think twice about renting from hertz again. Clerk failed to inform me that an additional driver is an extra $13 per day. What a nasty surprise when I got the bill for an eight day rental! An extra $96 for the privilege of driving their crappy car. I called customer service trying to negotiate some resolution, spent about four minutes navigating through the menu to get a person, only to be dismissed as soon as I complained. I was told that "all the charges were listed on the paper that you signed." It didn't matter that I signed a credit card screen, and didn't get the full, itemized list until the car was returned. This Hertz location is nothing short of awesome. It's a long story, but I was in an accident with a rental car I got from Dulles airport in VA. We were heading home from visiting family in MN and stopped to spend the night in Rockford IL. I was visiting a urgent care bc I had strep and was heading back to the hotel when I was sideswiped. The next day we called Hertz roadside assistance (the general number) they passed us off to Chris at this location. It's the main roadside assistance job to find us an exchange vehicle. We needed an SUV bc we were on a long road trip and it was packed full so a car wouldn't do. No location in the area had an SUV. Chris called around to all the locations and couldn't find one. He frequently checked in with me to update me on the status. Finally he was unable to find one. I called roadside assistance who had been using the excuse that they couldn't get ahold of the Milwaukee airport nor O'Hare, this is hours later. We ended up contacting Milwaukee Hertz ourselves and the manager there was nice enough to set us up with the manager at the O'Hare airport who was her son to get us an SUV. We mentioned it being brought to the location near us, and it was after hours for the Rockford hertz location. One of the guys knew Chris though and called him on his cell. Chris answered and gladly agreed to not only have the vehicle come there but to send someone from their location to the airport to get it in the morning. He followed through. Had the vehicle to us by 1pm the next day. He even had them come pick us up from the hotel bc we have a 6 week old baby and couldn't get there ourselves. Customer service was above and beyond what I would expect from a rental car establishment and I've dealt with some pretty crappy ones. Thank you Chris!
