    Short rib special
    Jerry A.

Open for just two months, Hestan is a high-end Italian cookware brand. Hestan Napa incorporates a restaurant headed up by a Michelin star chef and a retail store. The space is warm and elegant, and the service was some of the best we've had! Their attention to detail really shines, in every dish that we enjoyed, and even in every conversation with members of the staff. They are obviously focused on giving their guests a world class experience, and they certainly did not disappoint! Our lunch was truly wonderful, a meal where each bite of each dish made each of us raise our eyebrows and say "wow". The raw tuna appetizer was super fresh and invoked thoughts of the ocean. The warm grilled calamari served on a slightly spicy slaw was unexpectedly wonderful. The duck liver mousse was very flavorful and a little bit sweet, and not at all gamey like liver can be. The scallops were cooked perfectly, as was the dry aged New York strip. The short rib was served on a bed of cheesy jalapeño polenta. It was falling apart tender and very rich and flavorful! We lingered over delicious desserts, not wanting the experience to end. We are genuinely excited to return!

Filet mignon - melted in my mouth!

Came here to Valentine's Day and opted for the pre-fixed menu: lobster bisque, scallops, filet mignon and lemon tart. And every single dish was absolutely exceptional! I don't typically eat filet mignon because I love ribeye but this filet mignon was so so good! And the lobster bisque tasted very lobster-y but in a good way. And oh man, the scallops. Service was fantastic and the ambiance is so different, like a cookware store but with restaurant aesthetics. Loved it! Also had the Pinot Noir which was delicious!

Why was I buying so much? What was I going to do with all of it? They found me peculiar and made sure I knew it. When I turned to leave, one of the women called out in a taunting, sing-song tone, "Have fun clea-ning!" Okay. Fine. If that's how it is, here is a complete explanation of my purchases: PRODUCT #10607 TOWEL, BAR MOP, WHITE 30 OZ., 16" X 19", FULL TERRY, 100% COTTON, MACHINE WASHABLE, 12 PER PACKAGE, $23.95, plus tax. At $2.19 each, these bar towels are essential in maintaining a nice home while keeping my budget in check. They serve as kitchen rags, wash cloths, hand towels, dinner napkins and, yes, they are used for light cleaning. Laundry is simple; no sorting, no colors that bleed, no designs that will fade, and no graphics to melt and peel in the dryer. A purchase of 4 dozen bar towels lasts approximately 10 - 12 years. Stained and worn, the rags are moved to the garage and used for washing the car, cleaning windows, and performing other generally filthy jobs. They will last another 5 - 8 years before ending up in the garbage can. Pleased with the 30 oz. cotton bar towels I'd purchased, I thought it wise to invest in another four dozen while they were available. It's become difficult to find good quality at an affordable price these days. I believe I have justified my practical outlay. Can the derisively inquisitive women who represent CASTINO justify their grossly unprofessional behavior? I suggest the next time they don't understand a savvy customer's purchase they simply say, "Thank you for doing business with us."

They have reasonably priced eating utensils. They have cutting boards that range from just pull out when you need it to giant ones. Obviously they cover restaurants as a lot of their items are more for a commercial kitchen. But the bonus is that the staff is friendly and do not discriminate when you come up with items for your home. I do love that they have longer handled spatulas, flippers, and spoons that work well for having a child learning to cook to help keep their hands a little further away from the hot item they are working with. The kids do love that we got little .5oz dipping cups for them to have more than one sauce that they can dip in when we do fried foods or just when we want to keep things or spices separate while cooking.

Firstly, the store is open to the public. I looked for some signs, but there was nothing posted,…read morebut ask and the answer was a resounding yes. I give five stars to any place that convinces me I need that bit of kitchen equipment. Not just replacements or duplicates, I mean stuff that does not exist in my kitchen. I have limited space in my kitchen and I do my best to avoid nonessentials. And there are not too many holes in my kitchen inventory. Since this is a restaurant supply store, I figured most of the equipment would be inappropriate for a home kitchen. And mostly it was. I really don't need paper napkins 5000 at a time. But every now and then I saw something that you don't normally see for the home cook. Now the restaurant size woks and pots were to be expected. What I didn't expect was the equipment that's clearly meant to cook individual size portions. Literally these were the cutest little woks I've ever seen. These were also the only woks where I had even the faintest chance of executing that professional chefs flip. I gave it a whirl and no luck. It's still too heavy for me. They did have some items that were on clearance. Now these prices are perfectly in line with other stores, possibly even lower. But way too late, I already have those. What a bummer. There's some stuff that automatically incited lust. But I already know this type of equipment should never be installed in a residential kitchen. For example, they had gas burners for restaurants. I seriously doubt anyone would run the gas pipes that you need to fuel these burners. I think they would violate most residential building codes. Nevertheless, they're awesome kitchen porn. I found the mix of kitchen equipment very interesting. The percentage of items that were clearly of Asian origin was very large. Here are all the missing doodads that *some* Asian markets should be stocking... Have you ever been frustrated purchasing equipment, where the plastic bits like the lids keep breaking and you can't find the replacements? Take a look at this place, the containers are standardized and so are the lids. Finally. I ran across some truly unexpected items. A lot of them were things you never think of like replacement knobs for pots, replacement wooden handles for woks. And you know those traditional brushes that your mom insist is the only way to clean a wok properly? They had it. They had it in the extra extra extra large size, but they had it. And sometimes it was just little things like the kitchen gloves that look like they would survive a tornado. Unfortunately, they were all latex and I'm allergic to latex. Oh well. Of course, there are the bits of equipment that are only useful in the home kitchen and obviously they are completely missing. Sometimes professionalism is too big of price to pay for giving up traditional cookware. If you're just glancing at the prices, they seem awfully high. But take the time to pull out the item and hold it in your hands. There is no doubt it will be heavier and probably has some interesting features that you won't find for the home version. Let's just say the wire racks will hold your cookies even if they're made of lead. And just to make my point, there was no nonstick anything anywhere that I could spot. For those of you who are looking for kitchen items that are a little bit out of the way or need something heavier duty than average. This is a great place to shop. On the other hand, many of these items are going to be too large to store easily or even to use if the dimensions of your kitchen equipment don't match. The Customer Service in the store was simply fantastic. They left you alone if you wanted to browse, and there was certainly plenty to browse. If you had questions or if you were getting serious about a purchase, they were happy to answer questions and make recommendations. 100% recommend if you are a kitchen equipment geek. You'll have fun even if you can't use any of it. 50-50 if you are looking for something unusual. Most items are only stocked if they are used in a restaurant kitchen. There's nothing that specifically aimed at home kitchens. For example, there are no kitchen appliances. Inventory fluctuates. I was delighted to find a silicone baking mat, but it only came in the half sheet size. My hopes for a domed wok cover rose high when I saw the display of Asian kitchen utensils. But the only wok covers I saw were clearly meant for the industrial size version and not for my puny home kitchen. I would say the store is not for everyone. If you love kitchen equipment, you'll enjoy browsing here and snagging cookware that you can't find anywhere else. For everyone else, most likely you find it disappointing since most of the equipment can be found in your regular department store except these are heavy duty. you may not want to pay the higher expense for an item that's going to outlive you. Or maybe we should all buy here instead of caving to our culture of consumption.
