The panang curry had a great blend of sweet and savory flavoring and not too much spice. The crab meat fried rice tasted fine and had good flavoring, but it was just a tad salty. For drinks, we had a shirley temple and Thai iced tea. I liked how the shirley temple came with three cherries. Also, the ambience felt relaxed and quiet during our late lunch. Pad Thai - so so so bland, 95% noodles, 5% peanuts, chicken and scallions. Drunken noodle - overcooked mushy noodles, weird flavor not the typical flavor of pad kee mao (I tasted no oyster sauce or soy sauce), and there were so many carrots and broccoli in there... Red curry - the flavor of the curry was actually good and thank god for , but this was like 80% green bell peppers. I frequent this place for lunch and I have had several dishes here already and they have not disappointed! The food is very flavorful, the staff is nice, and the ambiance is great. The place is really nicely decorated. Today I decided to go with the Basil sautéed and chicken. The lunch special is great and it includes soup or salad with your entree. The food and the drinks are the real stars of the show here though! We got two types of fried rice (one spicy, one with crab meat) and both were delicious and extremely flavorful. I tried the white sangria and it was probably one of the best sangrias I've ever tasted in a restaurant! A beautiful place with good food. I came here with my friend while in the area due to their gluten free options availability. We started off with the summer rolls that served with peanut sauce which we enjoyed very much. My friend really liked her Thai ice tea and her Pad Thai while I enjoyed my Drunken noodle dish. The person on the phone took my info and confirmed the booth for two people. I asked to speak with the manager and she didn't know what to do, like a deer in headlights. I was willing to wait for the booth for a little bit for the booth if I had too, but them telling me lies and saying they didn't confirm with me really upset me. Also telling me the booth was for large parties was another lie since there was a booth being used with just two people and I've sat at the booth with just two people before. The host and the manger were BOTH very unprofessional, wrong and extremely shady that night. I ended up leaving and found a MUCH BETTER Thai spot just down the block. Hey Thai is not a place I'll be going back to. Another time I was there with a friend of mine and the waiter who I thought was nice made a joke to my friend for her not to come back and my friend got offended by that. Considering I love Thai food, I had high expectations walking into Hey Thai based on the reviews, the restaurant ambience, and the fact that it's a restaurant in NYC. For the amount of food I ordered, I expected to have leftovers as I usually do at other restaurants, but portions here are on the smaller side. We easily finished nearly all our food for just 3 of us. I was disappointed that none of our food was very flavorful and there's no spice or kick to any of the dishes. I'm used to ordering my thai food on the spicier side. It was strange to eat the papaya salad and pad thai with no spice whatsoever. We had to ask of there was any hot sauce or peppers we could add to our dishes. Once we added that, it did help give our food a slight kick, but still, I'd say our food was on the more plain side for taste. Nothing impressive, nothing that stood out. The Tom yum soup was good though, just as you would expect it to taste. We were a bit thrown by the Thai iced tea- it's served with coconut milk which we aren't used to. The space is gorgeous, but the food is mediocre, and the service is horrible! I went at lunchtime, and the place was busy, but we had a choice of 3 different tables. We ordered 2 lunch specials within 3 minutes of sitting down. Lunch came with soup. They brought over 2 luke warm bowls of broth with a few tiny pieces of carrots and onions in it. We asked them to pack up our food to go, and they put it all together as if we lived together. This is 1 PM in the FiDi. It was reasonable to assume we are working in the area. Not living together. So we had to wait another several minutes for a second bag. We had also already requested the check. But that never showed up either. After more than 45 minutes of this crap, we left. Suddenly, they stopped being disinterested and chased us down the street with the bill that they somehow figured out how to produce! Of course, we paid, but I told the woman that it was funny how she suddenly stopped being disinterested and figured out how to move fast. I told Jerry how horrible our experience was & that it was ridiculous that they made no attempt to make things right. Not even taking the appetizer off the bill, offering a desert or drink, any gesture of responsibility, or regret. "Oh. Do you want me to take off the appetizer? OK." The whole experience was ridiculous. There are far too many good restaurants in this area to bother putting up with a business that doesn't care about customer retention, good food, & decent service. And when I finally got to eat my Pad Thai hours later, even though I was starving, I found it to be bland and boring. The sake flight included four flavors: coconut, green tea, pineapple and yuzu. All flavors were great but my favorite was the yuzu. The Tom yum soup was comforting. The salad was ok, the dressing is more on the sweet side than salty. The drunken noodles didn't taste like the typical drunken noodle, had some red coated sauce. And the green curry was good - we were able to substitute the eggplant with more broccoli. I felt like there was more veggies than curry though.
