I'm excited that Heytea opened up in UTC that I don't need to drive to Carmel Valley for it! This location is much larger than the Carmel Valley location, has indoor seating and I loved the decor and vibes. I went on grand opening and they were doing a bogo special on drinks! There were a lot of people and it took 2.5 hrs to get my drinks :(. I got the Jasmine Tea Latte with Oat Milk and the Mango Coconut Blue drink! The Jasmine latte was very floral which I enjoyed and it came in a cool cup. The mango drink wasn't anything special but contrast of the blue with the mango and cream makes very nice to look at. I will definitely come back in the future after the hype dies down and hopefullly online ordering will be enabled! read more

I'm sure I'll have a real experience next time but I decided to order a Matcha Cloud Coconut Blue for my best friend's birthday because she's been raving about how good it was. She told me there was a super long wait at her visit so I decided to order online ahead of time for pick up later. Ordering online was confusing although I'm thankful for the option. The phone app told me I couldn't order because it was very busy at the shop and to check back later. After a few refreshes, it doesn't change so I almost give up. I check back after maybe a half an hour and it allows me to order! You can't set a future time to pick it up and it was too early to put an order in so I try again in an hour. It says I can't order again due to the high volume. I try again after some time and it allowed me to finally order which I did. The back and forth was confusing to me and I never had a business do that before. Anyways, it took a good half an hour to be ready which is crazy to me for a drink! I frequent the Heytea in Del Mar, but this is my first time at Heytea UTC. I preordered and took advantage of one of the in-app coupons. I came around noon so there were few people in the store. The space is small and just off the UTC Starbucks. It is very clean inside with gorgeous, minimalist decor. It smells great, which is always a good sign for a tea shop! I ordered the cloud longjing milk tea, light sugar less ice. My friend got the yingde black milk tea. My drink was SO GORGEOUS. the matcha foam was topped with puffs of rich viennese cream. I tried a bit of the cream itself and it was so creamy, and not too sweet. I aggressively mixed it together before taking a sip, and WOW. just WOW. I had been apprehensive about this drink as I thought that the matcha foam, milk, and sweetener would overpower the milder longjing green tea. However, I feel that the addition of toasty buckwheat helped give the tea more body, enhancing the unique taste of the longjing tea. The first taste that hit my tongue was definitely the matcha, but the longjing lingers on my tongue after. I also tried a sip of my friend's yingde black tea as I was curious about this new drink. It was fine and the black tea was strong and smooth, but it was not especially standout for me. It is not something I would order myself. I'll start by saying that while I don't think this place is worth the line, it was good. In total, it probably took us 30 minutes to order and receive our drink. The pro is that there's a place to order a matcha latte in UTC. Despite how many different types of milk tea or bubble drink places there are, most aren't really specializing in this kind of matcha drink. The rest of them have different milk teas or fruit teas, but not matcha, so it's great to have that option. However, here are the cons. They use regular milk for almost all of the drinks. There is one with oat milk, but they can't sub oat milk for any of the other drinks, which I find so weird! Especially when you're serving a population that is majority lactose intolerant and you only offer milk. Almost all the tea shops use lactose free milk or have dairy free options, so it just felt wild to me that this place didn't. The matcha was good and the caffeine content was def high! Here's a tip for coming to the UTC location. If you want to have their tea and don't want to pay for parking, come here first and place you order, especially during peak times, cause it took 40 minutes for our drinks to be ready. We came here on a Friday around 12:30pm after having lunch. After our drinks were ready we had to rush to our parking. Now they did tell us that it would take 30-40 minutes so we knew we were going to cutting it a little close. So just plan ahead. Anyway, the drinks were good. The cloud matcha latte was good but it would be nice to have more milk alternatives. The whole milk can be really rich and strong on the stomach. Wish I could rate higher because the drink I got was actually really good (mango coconut slush with sago) but the initial experience was not something I'd normally have the patience for. This is by far one of the busiest spots in UTC on any given day and every time I pass by the line is long. Finally managed to try it recently but I would suggest ordering ahead because from line to order to pickup, I'd say the duration is a minimum of 30 minutes. I would have ordered ahead, but unfortunately the QR code on the door does not scan well during certain hours of the day (light reflection) and I believe an app download is needed to do anything anyway. The staff do what they can to push orders out but it's still quite a wait. There's limited seating inside and numbers are either called out or displayed on the screen. It's also a little hard to maneuver through the space and through the single door. My cousin's girlfriend waited 30 minutes, and when she went up to the counter to ask staff about her drinks. Staff told her at that moment they ran out of a certain ingredient, so they weren't able to make that drink. They didn't even bother to ask her what she wanted as a replacement! They finally made her replacement drink, which took an extra 10 minutes. While we were waiting a lady dressed in what looked like scrubs came in with flip flops (seemed like a regular or friend or former employee) and sat at the long bench where small coffee tables were placed in front of. She was loudly on the phone and put BOTH of her feet crossed on the table. No decency... I'm sure no one wants to eat or drink at a location next to an individual sitting like that. All men working here that don't know the first thing about making matcha, I would see one dude picking up a cup to see what it was, put it down and walk aimlessly around. Love that they opened up a HeyTea location in La Jolla after the one in Del Mar. Always recommend downloading the app and trying to order ahead instead of waiting in person. However, you will often notice that they will temporarily pause their online ordering when they have a high volume of orders, which will happen quite often during peak hours and especially on BOGO offer days. So sometimes, don't hesitate and just place your order! Or else you might regret it like me. I especially love their coconut mango boom drink, which is always consistently good and keeps pretty well over time surprisingly. Any of their fruit drinks, especially the slushy ones are great, although the slushy aspect tends to melt pretty quickly. Their matcha is also pretty solid, with the supreme matcha latte pictured. I went to their soft opening today since they were offering BOGO drinks. This place is where The Alley used to be located inside the UTC Mall near Sees Candy. We waited 1 hour in line to order and then another 30 min for the drinks so a total of 1.5 hours. We ordered the Coconut Mango Boom and the Cloud Matcha Latte. We added boba to both drinks. At the time of ordering, I didn't get an option on sugar level. But I thought the Cloud Matcha Latte was good, not too sweet. The coconut mango boom was slightly on the sweeter side since I added boba and it already came with mango bits, coconut jelly and sago. So in the future I would ask for less sugar if they allow adjustments. The boba was really fresh and I could taste the infused sweet flavor. The drinks there are about $7-8. But $1 extra for boba. The Cloud Matcha Latte with boba is almost $10 with tax. That's a bit steep for a boba drink. I feel the coconut mango boom was more worth it since it comes with mango bits , coconut jelly and sago for $7. ($8 with boba.) Service was very good. They had a huge staff working hard pumping out the drinks for all the customers. There was also a very cute nice young lady who dispensed water for customers. She offered me a cute magnet if I did a review. (I was planning on doing the review already.) The only disappointment is that they didn't give a lot of boba. The first thing I noticed walking it was that is smelt like sour milk which was very unpleasant and the AC was not on so it was a humid, hot, sour smelling aroma which was not great but still wanted to give the drinks a try since this place was hyped up and I was excited to try them. Secondly, after thankfully only waiting about 5 minutes for our drinks which did look pretty great we were pretty disappointed at most. We tried the top 2 drinks they recommend which were the double cloud matcha which was a 2/5 as it tasted like I was eating sushi which was very confusing least to say and the coconut mango drink ( can't remember the name) was just plain OK. I definitely would not be returning as there are other better boba spots around. The only good thing I have to say is that the cashier was very friendly and that's why I am giving 2 stars. read more
