Katsu sandwich, green tea hot cakes, hayashi omurice
    Megan Y.

Came here on a saturday afternoon for a 1 PM reservation for 3, but weren't seated until 1:30 PM. It took even longer for our food to come around 2 PM. It was a very cute space, and I imagine it would be a nice atmosphere in the evening when the live jazz music is playing. The food here was very delicious. Our favorite was the gayashi omurice. I really enjoyed the beef, mushroom, and onion in the sauce, and the omelette was incredibly soft and fluffy. We also really enjoyed the green tea hot cakes. They were a bit dense, but the matcha flavor in the cakes and the ice cream was really good. I liked how it came with a variety of flavors and textures. The chicken katsu sandwich was also good, but did not stand out as much as the other dishes. Overall, it was a very delicious brunch, but do expect slow service.

Came here with the girls. It wasn't busy. We were thinking about lunch. We sat down got the menu. They left us alone for almost 20-30 mins and we were looking around for a staff to order. By the time they came and we ordered it took about 15-20 min to get our teas. Since it took so long to order and get our teas we did not want to risk getting food there. Worse experience here.

This is a lovely restaurant. My wife and I came here last year to meet up with some friends and we really loved our brunch. The tea and coffee were very flavorful and service was excellent. We also really enjoyed our hot cakes; my wife got the mixed berry and I got the green tea and both were delicious and very filling. The atmosphere inside is peaceful and it was a lovely meal overall. I'd definitely recommend this place and would visit here again.

I thought the food here was really solid. I really enjoyed the omurice and Brussels sprouts, and the katsu was good as well. The ambiance inside is very nice, comfortable, and authentically Japanese, and the service is good.

It's a cute little spot and they have live jazz on Mon, Tues, and Sun. Service was kind of slow, but we did come during an off hour at like 3pm. We got the mentaiko pasta, which was solid, and the slightly grilled romaine salad. The salad had way too much dressing, making all of the lettuce soggy and kind of hard to eat. I'd come back to check out their dinner menu and for the live jazz.

This venue has turned from a delicious Japanese Omurice to a jazz bar at night. It's a lot more crowded with all the high tops. Food is still excellent and I very much enjoyed the rice tomato. They are expanding hours for the night for alcohol. More money perhaps?

This place is crazy busy and popular, with lots of seating. It feels a bit hectic inside but I didn't feel rushed for brunch. Their tamago sandwich is good and a fair price for the area. Their potatoes were nice and crispy too. They're also known for their teas and coffee, but I wasn't particularly impressed. I thought the tea was expensive, especially for the portion. I'm sure it's because it's high quality, but it didn't taste any better than other tea places I've been to that are a bit more affordable.

A cozy little spot in the heart of east village. Serves Japanese comfort meals as well as some yummy omurice and even sweet pancakes. I got the omurice which was flavorful with every bite and service was so sweet and accommodating. Definitely check this spot out hanging with friends or for a nice chill date.

AMAZING!! I went on a whim off of google maps and I was so impressed. They had live jazz and I hear they're planning to continue that for the time being. The atmosphere was of course so cozy and welcoming, and the service definitely matched that. The food.. just wow. The omurice texture was PERFECT and the flavors were so well balanced. Great portion too.

I remember Hi-Collar when they were just a tiny restaurant with a few seats at the bar and having to wait in line to get a seat. It was so nice seeing how the restaurant had flourished and grown since. I ordered the katsu sandwich which also had egg salad in it. It was truly delightful. My friend enjoyed her hayashi omurice!

Been here a handful of times and have tried a decent amount of items on the menu. Most recently, we went for lunch and asked for two omurices and a hot pancake for dessert after our meal. All the dishes landed on the table at the same time. Great, cold pancakes for dessert.. Also, both omurice dishes came out oddly fast and it was tepid and unappetizing. Almost seemed like it was pre-made considering the speed at which it came out. The egg was almost cold and both of us felt unwell after our meal. Had many great experiences in the past but my most recent experience was a bit subpar.

Beautiful and elegant atmosphere with a great vibe. The tiramisu was outstanding and definitely a must-try. Highly recommend!

    $114.80 TIP ADDED BY STAFF

****STAFF ADDED ADDITIONAL $100 TIP ON TO MY BILL**** I visited on September 21st for my friends birthday! It was just the two of us and we got a great view near the band. We ordered the seafood platter, salad, and one other item. To note, we also ordered the stew style dish but it never came by the time they closed. However, that was no problem we weren't charged for the dish we didn't receive. My reason for the low stars is due to the additional tip added by the staff after I signed the receipt and left. I added photos of the merchant receipt I left in addition to what I see recorded in their electronic system. I have opened a dispute with my credit card company and am extremely disappointed.

It was a pleasant surprise to see that they expanded into the adjacent storefront. Now there's 4-5 booths and a bar table. The annex matches the interior design of their Soho and Midtown location and feels clean and spacious. Service was a bit slow from the hostess to the server. We ordered: small chicken tatsuta-age, niku udon, kamonan udon, assorted mushroom udon, green tea tiramisu, souffle fruit roll, soba pudding. Appreciate how big the chunks of meat are used for fried chicken. The exterior was a bit overfried but the interior stayed Broth and udon aligns with their Soho location which makes me more willing to come to this location moving forward. The assorted mushroom is seasonal. It's a nice lighter cleaner option but at the same time the mushrooms don't add much flavor. Kamonan is the duck which I chose because duck is a less common meat option around. I felt that the duck was a bit tough and bland yet also added too much oil into the clean broth (relatively to me). Niku is an OG but I haven't had it in a while. This time I was surprised how the marinate is light resulting in stronger meat flavor. I wish it would be more tender but it's alright. Desserts were more disappointing to me. I used to go to Patisserie Fouet frequently before they shut down the Union Square location. Green tea tiramisu had strong matcha soaks but I found the overall dessert to be a bit bland. The soaked sponge was a bit too wet too. Souffle fruit roll was huge, better to share with others especially after already eating savory food beforehand. I think it's intentional for the cake to be so dense. It came out really smooth but way too dense to feel like a dessert. I think I would eat this as breakfast instead. The raspberry sauce's tartness and punchiness is much needed otherwise I don't know if I can finish it. Soba pudding is my usual favorite and it stands up to the test of time. Still super smooth and with wheaty depth.

The katsu was very, very moist on the inside, with a crispy batter that was so light it was almost flavorless. I honestly couldn't really tell the difference between the tenderloin and pork loin. Overall the dish had a very light flavor and I added quite a bit of sauce and wasabi. Some of the less memorable dishes were the eggplant agebitashi and truffle rice. The eggplant agebitashi tasted like a cross between an eggplant parm and a bolognese. The truffle rice had a very strong truffle flavor that ended up overpowering everything else in the dish. I thought the slices of raw button mushrooms were a little strange. I really enjoyed the sabazushi. The pieces of mackerel were thick and carried a lot of that characteristic mackerel oily flavor, but the oiliness was cut by enough vinegar to balance everything out. The niku udon was also a surprise hit. The noodles were wide, flat, super slurpy, and the broth carried a deep umami flavor. Overall, I had a pretty solid experience here.

I could have easily eaten three orders by myself. Succulent, juicy scallops, perfectly cooked chicken and scallions, and the chicken meatballs were perfectly moist and delicious. - Shrimp tempura appetizer: I love for shrimp so this one was all for me. Excellent tempura batter and nice-sized shrimp. - Trico roll: shared by the three others in my party and they all said they'd get it again. - Beef Yakiniku Don: probably my favorite. Again, can't give it a rating based on taste, but on looks a 5/5. - Yaki Udon: I got this. I was originally going to get sukiyaki but since two people had to order and no one else did, I ended up ordering this (my alternate was the Beef Yakiniku Don but my GF had already ordered so I got a different dish). Only complaint was that it could have had a little bit more beef but overall, perfectly sheet udon noodles, sauce, and beef. Would still get it again. 4.5/5. $180 for all (pre-tip). Well worth the price. Next time I return it'll be for sukiyaki, though, and I'll make sure whoever I go with is going to get it, too. 5/5, will be back.

I usually order spicy ramen at most ramen spots, so that's what I went with my first time here. Big mistake. The spicy ramen really takes away from the depth of flavor. If you actually want to appreciate the broth, the classic ramen is the way to go. You can always add spicy oil yourself. A few things could definitely be improved. For an upscale ramen spot in the heart of NYC, I was surprised the tap water was straight-up lukewarm. Nobody wants lukewarm water after eating a piping-hot bowl of ramen. I'd also avoid the bar seating if you can. The seats aren't very comfortable, especially if your back tends to get tight from sitting hunched over. Another small but surprisingly annoying issue is the front door, it doesn't have a slow-close mechanism, so it's constantly slamming shut. Depending on where you're sitting, it can get pretty loud and distracting while you're trying to eat. On the positive side, the service was great. The staff was attentive, and the food came out incredibly quickly after ordering, which I really appreciated. The ambiance definitely fits the upscale NYC ramen vibe without feeling overly fancy. You don't need to dress up, casual clothes are completely fine. I'll definitely be back, classic ramen next time, no question.
