Stopped by this spot before when they had a pop up take over, but finally managed to catch HI NRG at their own spot. They sell DAK beans which is a good indicator that they know what they're doing. The barista working was kind and personable. Ordered their cafe de olla for $6. The espresso was noticeably smooth and not bitter at all, solid taste notes. Not overly sweet with the condensed milk. However, I was disappointed with the first sip that my drink was just lukewarm -- I wish they steamed the milk longer so it was hot and more pleasant to drink. There was a line of people behind me, but still no need to rush the drinks. Inside is a spot for people to hang out and chill, albeit decently loud music playing. read more

First noticed HI NRG at High Treason about a year ago. It started as a pop-up coffee project and now with more consistent hours serving coffee by day. Then High Treason wine bar resume by night. It's a coffee & DJ + vinyl experience with fun coffee party vibes. Focusing on small single origin third-wave coffee (meaning: artisanal and origin-focused) and pour over. On a weekday afternoon, HI NRG was crowded with people studying/working and other customers enjoying free coffee samples from a visiting distributor. After waiting around five minutes in line, I tried their cafe de olla, and it was excellent! It was warm, comforting, and perfectly spiced. The cinnamon flavor came through without being overpowering, and the drinks were on the smaller size served in unique glass cups. Even though the cups were small, the quality of the drink showed. Would definitely come back to try this strong caffeinated drink again along with some of their other unique offerings! read more

Loved the vibes here and how spacious the interior is with high ceilings and a ton of natural lighting! I've been wanting to check out Hi NRG after seeing it being praised on a lot of top coffee shop in SF lists and came by close to closing time on a Saturday. Luckily since people were filing out we were able to order quickly and grabbed a seat for a bit. The menu is simple as they really let their beans speak for themselves. I opted for an oat cappuccino which was super smooth and well-balanced. The baristas are so nice as well and the overall experience was exceptional! Biscuit by @vinegary_personality I got the cafe de olla cinnamon cappuccino for $6 and Steve got the pour over for $8. There was only like 2 people ahead of us luckily and grateful that they went over the options i.e background info and a sample despite the handful of people behind us. The baristas were hella chill and friendly. Walking distance from our spot but drove just in case there was a long line and luckily we're able to score a parking spot right out front! We got our drinks togo since I had a busy morning of emails but we were able to enjoy our drinks for a little bit and this yummy biscuit that was the last one while they prepared the pour over. 10/10 amazing. This is your place if you don't like sugar drinks and instead let the coffee shine through for you. I have been coming since they opened this permanent pop-up. I find myself here everyday if not every week. I usually get an Americano as of late but my usual drink is a cortado, the batch coffee is also great. Quite possibly the GOAT coffee experience in SF. Ephemerality inherently increases the cache of any social experience, and cache is king in SF, which is why pop-ups are just so fun and popular. Even though this is a regular popup at the High Treason wine bar, it still brings incredible joy to me, my wife, and my baby as we queue and enjoy the sweet live DJ'd vinyl that enhances the experience tenfold. My favorite drink at HI NRG is the cafe de olla which fills my veins with a cinnamon caffeine kick of energy, just what I need on the way to a brisk walk and farmers market shopping power hour on clement st. Oh and did I mention how gosh darn nice the baristas treat each and every customer? Cherry on top. They always have unique and tasty food options: today cheddar and chive scone and an almond cake The coffee menu remains the same, with my favorite being the cafe de olla: their only sweetened drink. It's not very sweet which is why I love it because I don't have to modify it to half sweet because it's already perfect. IF YOU'RE NOT A COFFEE ELITE, AND ADD HALF & HALF AND SUGAR TO YOUR COFFEE: DO NOT COME HERE. They serve serious coffee, with coffee being the flavor which I so enjoy. The also have some beans for sale in the space. I've never been to high treason at night and love the sunlights in the space. Luis and Nathan always provide the best of service. I've been following these cats since their days at the coffee movement and they've done such an amazing job with their business and clientele so far. I quite like what High Treason has done with their versatile wine bar space. I was here a while ago for the tasty kimchi fried rice they continue to serve in the afternoons as a Hawaiian pop-up called Unco Frank's (review: https://yelp.to/yVSLLvexLN). I was only in the neighborhood early Saturday morning because I was having my car serviced nearby and had time to stroll a mostly shuttered Clement Street. I just happened to walk by when the young staff was putting out their signage and setting up for business. I guess I was their first customer. The friendly barista had time to explain their menu and a bit of their back story. Delectable baked goods were being put out on display, but I had the wherewithal to avoid them and order the $6 Cafe de Olla, a genuine treat in a small clay cup with cinnamon and piloncillo (Photo 7). It had a nice, mellow Latin vibe. I was amazed how quickly the space filled up. In about 15 minutes, all the tables and counters were occupied, and there was a growing queue of obvious regulars. Gee, did I accidentally land upon the morning 'it' spot in the Richmond? Sure felt like it. Love HI NRG! I'm a cafe de olla and espresso tonic stan. Their espresso tonic is one of the best in the city imo. I love their whole menu and their seasonals and trying their experimental drinks. They also have baked goods which are usually pretty good. I used to go here regularly but moved sadlyyy. The baristas are great and provide speedy service. During the weekdays it's more chill and you can talk to the baristas a lil bit more but during the weekends it's so busy and the line can get out the door. They are in a wine bar but honestly it is a great space to occupy and I've seen people yap, work, or chill. They also provide really unique and amazing beans you can buy which I've bought from multiple times and given as gifts to the coffee lovers in my life and they've loved them. They def put a lot of effort and love into their craft and give vibes of community cultivating centered ppl which I admire. Highly recommend trying HI NRG! read more

This place is worth all the hype. My hubby is always disappointed with most coffee shops so I am so glad we were able to find this place! He liked his coffee so much that before we left he grabbed another. Also if they have the lemon olive oil cake, don't sleep on it. We have a toddler with us so we made a little mess but the staff was super nice and helped vacuum up the area for us. Getting pastries at Arsicault on Arguello during the weekend? Walk a bit further down the steet to HI NRG for a coffee! I did that earlier and it was one of the highlights of my day. The baristas were super friendly and asked us if we had any questions. The menu is concise. The cafe de olla was the only sweetened drink on the menu when I went. I got the hot cafe de olla ($6) and really enjoyed it! It was lightly sweetened and cinnamon-y but didn't take away from the coffee at all. My drink was accidentally made decaf and they offered to remake it, but I didn't mind at all! My drink was balanced and flavorful. Our drinks were clearly prepared with a lot of care, I loved the latte art. I came back later for an iced latte and liked it, but preferred my hot drink. HI NRG is some of the best coffee I've had in SF! I'll definitely come back and will be recommending it to others. Do note that cup sizes are on the smaller side. There's a good amount of seating inside. They also sell coffee beans and a few baked goods. There is no parking lot so you'll have to look for street parking. I've gotta say this is one of the gems that I found on this most recent trip to San Francisco. I'm a sweaty little coffee nerd, and HI NRG satisfied my itch. The gentleman at the bar was very soothing in his speech, and immediately I clocked him as someone somewhat like-minded to me, at least in a coffee context. We had a lovely mini-conversation, and I opted to get a cortado. Lovely drinkware, as it felt like I was having a nice tea. Is it snobby? Yes. Do I love it? Even more so! They had a a couple bags of beans on sale too, and, after enjoying my cortado, I knew I had to pick up. The whole setup for the coffee bar takes up less space than a closet in a dingy New York Studio! It's impressive what they're able to pack in that space.
