Hi-Tech CARSTAR Eastside - Body Shops Near Me - Tacoma, Washington

We had my daughters car towed to this body shop after being told that they have the space and time for the repairs. I was trying to keep in weekly contact with the manager/owner Al Cruz but was always unable to get anyone to answer their phones. I was wanting an update regarding the vehicle as my daughters rental car is for a certain amount of days. After that she would be without means to get to work. I decided to show up at the shop and spoke with Al. He was extremely friendly and professional explaining to me that they are waiting to receive parts they ordered and possibly another 2 weeks. Fine, happy to have some communication. Well almost a month after that conversation and not being able to get ahold of anyone working there, I decided to see if the parts are back ordered at the BMW dealer in Fife. The dealer parts guy said usually BMW parthed needed are ordered from car shops in the area and he did not have any orders from this shop nor are the parts back ordered. So I'm really confused at this point about what is going on!! So after 2 months of no communication, I went down to the shop to find out what the issue is??!! A bald guy working in the back told me he didn't know anything and Al was on vacation. I asked him why they were waiting on parts for months that are not back ordered. I told him that the BMW dealer has them. He said they only order parts from a parts place in Portland. I told him we need the car back as my daughters paying daily for the rental. He honestly could of cared less. He said that there is cars stored in the back that have been here for over 8 months!! I told him that I plan on calling my insurance, State Farm and let them know that you haven't made much effort to repair after they paid you for the estimate. The told me he didn't have to listen to me berating him and said "F@#K", I'M GOING HOME and walked away! I was shocked at this guys behavior and lack of accountability. Ironically 2 days later, the shop called and said the car is done. My husband looked at the car when he got home and noticed that the front end wasn't assembled properly and there was no way nobody noticed it before it left. He took it back to the shop for them to do it correctly. What a nightmare!! Now I must say, Al is very nice but that doesn't matter when there's no communication and what little you have it comes from an employee that looks like he could be hiding from his Probation Officer!! I do not recommend this place. Poor communication, poor quality of work, poor time management and anger issues! read more

I picked up my car after CARSTAR completed repairs to my '05 Dodge Magnum. They did an outstanding job by fixing damage and matching paint. I was surprised to see the interior had been thoroughly cleaned as well. They kept me informed on the timing of obtaining parts and coordination with my insurance company. I'm so impressed with this shop. The receptionist is friendly, helpful and willing to answer questions. They went above and beyond with the damage repair. They kept in contact with me the entire time. My car looked fantastic when they were done. You'd never know it was hit. I saw them polishing it when I came to pick it up. Kevin was very helpful in guiding me through the process, answering any questions I had, and giving me a clear idea of the way ahead and what to expect. I would not recommend using their service. They are deceitful in business practice! I sent them pictures of my cars damage, got a bid, took it in and showed them in person. We agreed on an amount of $2500 fixed and painted! I told them if I can not get the repairs done for under $3000, I would have to part the car out, it would not be worth the repairs! They agreed and I left the car with them. I got a call, we need parts, I agreed on an additional $125 for the parts. I had told them I can't spend more than $3000 for the repairs and if they can't do it for that, I would have to part the car out, and scrap it! I got another call, They need ed to fix something else, I came in and looked at what they were talking about. I asked them, " how many hours will this add?, as I can't go over $3000 for the repairs!" They answered, "a few hours". I said OK as this would still be within budget! Several weeks went by, I had not wanted to bother them, but finally called them to see what was going on? They stated "I need to talk to you","can you come down here"? I asked him, "what was going on"? He said, "You might want to take your car to Maaco to get painted, because if we paint it we will be way over budget"! I asked him, "What do you mean way over budget"? He said he had taken off the paint hours to fix stuff and we were already over budget, and if we paint your car it will basically be outrageous! I asked him how over budget? He stated they spent 30 extra hours on the "few" he stated it would take to fix! We were currently at $3800 without paint! I agreed to the parts $125 that turned into $170 with their markup! I agreed to a few hours. Not what turned into 30 hours @ $47 per hour! So I thought I was looking @ an additional $141 in labor. They hit me with $1410! I told them every time I talked to them that I had a budget. They went forward with their total disregard to my budget. I had told them that I wanted this low miles car to be fixed and painted nice, that I did not want Maaco to touch it! So to tell me to take it to Maaco to get painted was salt on my wounds. I contacted the WA State Attorney General. After negotiating I still ended up over budget, They did not primer their work, it had to be sanded more as deep scratches were still showing, They charged me to put stuff back together and the front bumper had few plugs holding it on. I still had to get the car painted, with basically no other option I took it to Maaco who did terrible work! All in all I did a bunch of work to help them cut down on the cost, they still drove up the cost, I went $1000 over our agreed repair cost and it has Maaco paint! What kind of review would you give them? I have Auto Body experience and know that this was done deliberately, and I can only imagine how many other customers they have taken advantage of. Hopefully you read this first and look for a shop that has good reviews. read more

Hi-Tech Carstar is your typical automotive repair shop. I took my car in and was told that I would have my car back in ten days, this did not occur it took 17 days and the repairs were not complete. When I called them on the day of pick-up my truck was not even painted and that a rim which needed to be replaced had been sol d to someone else, just my guess. Bill the front desk man is very nice and polite. The overall service is okay at best but I will NEVER take my vehicle to them. They insist on looking for used parts not new, and who ever does their ordering needs to review his job skills. My rear axle was bent in the collision and guess what the wrong part was ordered, it was to long, so they blamed the company the part was sent from. A repair that should have taken no more than two weeks ended up taking more than a month and the repairs still are not completed the rim is still bent but I have to have my truck to get to and from work, so they cut me a check and I took my truck back. read more
