    The mispricing
    Grace C.

I asked about kids pricing for 3 year old and the owner/manager said $8.99 but when I reviewed the receipt at the end, he charged for something different (open item w/box) and was around $10 something. He never provided the itemized receipt so I had to request for it. They do shady business and when I confronted him he said the system is updating and that is the input for kids. Total liar, and he argued back to go to another buffet then which I said I would never return, I'm just giving you a courtesy notification that I will be reviewing on this matter. He was careless. Food was total crap too. So not worth it. Go elsewhere!

We saw mixed reviews on this place. Either people absolutely loved it or they absolutely hated it. We figured we would give it a fair chance. The reviews are right the decor and seating is very old. The woman's bathroom was filthy. Definitely needed to be deep cleaned. Some of the food was really good and some of it was really bad. The orange chicken was delicious. Crab rangoons were good. The red pork on the skewers was good. The sushi you have to get when they first put it out otherwise it dries out. It was Sabi was very mild. Ginger tasted like vinegar. The mushrooms in the gravy were fabulous. The service was a bit slow. Even though no one was in the place our dishes piled up at the end of the table. I did not like the fact that you were supposed to put your ice cream Scoops in a water pitcher filled with water so where you were holding it in your hand actually goes underwater. That can't be sanitary at all. Next to this was a tray where they had serving utensils so I took out one of the serving utensils to go into the ice cream containers with and the man yelled at me told me that I was supposed to use the ice cream Scoops that were sitting in the container of water. Not going to happen. Before we paid upfront we asked to go see the food because a lot of people said the food was cold so we made sure all of the tables were steaming. Their website is wrong. It says their Buffet is $10 and it's actually 15. The man said that they're having a hard time trying to get somebody to change the price on their website. Drinks come with the mail as well but we just had water and tea. It's probably still worth $15 with the amount of good items available. A lot on our plates we didn't touch and some we even spit out. So we're giving a three-star because two and a half is not available.

I at first had mixed feelings coming here as the facility used to be the Jumbo Buffet that I visited only once in 2008 with a friend and it was horrible.

A couple kinds of French toast. Scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, country fried steak, bacon, ham, corned beef hash, lots of potato casseroles, waffles, two kids of French toast...it just goes on and on. And then you have a full salad area with fresh fruit !! Oh and did I mention an entire buffet of pastries? Donuts, cinnamon rolls, danishes, muffins. It just kept going !!! Everything was fresh and replenished and delicious. The only thing I'd pass on was the Bloody Mary bar. Not a lot of stuffs. Cold chicken nuggets, bacon, green olives, some sad pickle spears, lemon wedges, celery, kielbasa, that was pretty much it. Would Have like to have seen cheese cubes or maybe some shrimp. But it was not bad, just nothing to write home about. All in all for 20.00 a person for food (I don't remember what the bloody bar was) it was a good deal. And they do it daily, not just on the weekends!!!

There was a wide selection of dishes in the buffet, sushi and Habachi stations. However, when we went this past Friday, one section of the buffet was completely empty/closed off. There was one tray of sushi when there used to be several. The limited dishes that were available looked like the trays were filled sparingly and did not look fresh. The soups all had a film stretched across the pots and the edges were dried and crusty. The ice cream station and desserts stayed the same, but I felt guilty making that the main part of my meal. The staff was friendly, and despite the appearance and lack of variety/quantity, the food was ok. The restaurant is spacious and has generous seating so it can accommodate large groups. If you need a quick way to feed a lot of people, this would be the place!

Food is average, what you'd expect of a Chinese buffet. Hibachi is not exceptional. The meats are cut too thick, so they were tough. I would stick with the seafood and eggs. And they could have used more soy sauce or whatever sauce they usually put on the hibachi, cuz mine came out pretty bland, despite the heaping amounts of garlic and hot sauce I had put on it. The worst of it, and the reason for the 1-star. My friend witnessed a server pick up ice cream that had fallen off the bucket WITH HER HANDS and put it back in the tub. That's gross. And I witnessed a server toss food that spilled out of the buffet tray back into the tray before wiping down with an old rag. Another gross. So I stuck with eating the hibachi and not touching anything from the buffet line. This kind of hygiene is unacceptable.

GLUTTONY 202 Golden…read moreCorral may not be glamorous, but come prepared with a solid appetite and you can stuff yourself to oblivion. A reminder, class: this is a mid-tier feasting program that requires prior knowledge of both Gluttony '101' and Gluttony '102'. If you feel you might be in the wrong section, "Intro to Overeating" is down the hall to your left. Now then, on with today's lesson... I grew up with the beloved Old Country Buffet, and while those restaurants are no more, Golden Corral is still here to appease the masses. This location is north of Fox Valley Mall in Aurora, just west of Route 59 on E New York St. It's $17/adult for dinner, $14/seniors, and kids under 3 are free. Drinks are separate ($2.25), and a staff member has to refill it for you. There's a LOT to pick from, including a nice variety of savory items, sweets, healthier fare and fried goodness. I scoped out the always-helpful Reddit pages for recommendations at Golden Corral, and I'm glad I did as they steered me toward some delicious finds. Pre-buffet weigh in: 157.4 lbs Post-buffet weigh in: 164.2 metric tonnes I left no culinary stone unturned: meatloaf, fried shrimp, mac 'n cheese, whipped potatoes w/poultry gravy, carnitas, green bean casserole, a corn bread muffin, Nashville hot chicken, pot roast, homemade potato chips, a beef & bean taco, orange "chicken", loaded chili, sweet potato casserole, bread pudding w/hot caramel, banana pudding, and a vanilla-chocolate twist cone. The house definitely lost money on me this visit. Somehow I managed to not only keep it together long enough for goodbyes, but I drove everyone home and stayed awake for another hour before lapsing into a heavy food coma. The next morning, I exploded like a supernova. * TL;DR * I did my homework, studied, and set the curve. The "Best in Show" had to be the whipped potatoes w/gravy, followed by the fried shrimp (2nd) and mac 'n cheese (3rd). The carnitas and homemade chips were unexpected delights that flew under most people's radar, and both the warm bread pudding and cold banana pudding were fantastic. "Worst in Show" goes to the questionable orange chicken, which as far as I could tell were chicken feet drizzled in chili sauce. I heard the bathrooms were in shambles, yet I managed to avoid them completely. It helped not having to worry about downing a few beers and breaking the seal (Golden Corral does not serve alcohol). Though I aced this particular test, there will be other....oral...exams in the future, so I'll keep my palette sharp and belly ready.
