Osaka had a lot of nostalgic memories for our family from 10+ years ago when we would eat there with extended families for special events. There was a wide selection of dishes in the buffet, sushi and Habachi stations. However, when we went this past Friday, one section of the buffet was completely empty/closed off. There was one tray of sushi when there used to be several. The limited dishes that were available looked like the trays were filled sparingly and did not look fresh. The soups all had a film stretched across the pots and the edges were dried and crusty. The ice cream station and desserts stayed the same, but I felt guilty making that the main part of my meal. The staff was friendly, and despite the appearance and lack of variety/quantity, the food was ok. The restaurant is spacious and has generous seating so it can accommodate large groups. If you need a quick way to feed a lot of people, this would be the place! read more

Not sure why the name is "Osaka". This is about as Chinese as you can get. Even the rolls are pretty much rice balls rather than sushi. Place is clean and staff is efficient. Food is average, what you'd expect of a Chinese buffet. Hibachi is not exceptional. The meats are cut too thick, so they were tough. I would stick with the seafood and eggs. And they could have used more soy sauce or whatever sauce they usually put on the hibachi, cuz mine came out pretty bland, despite the heaping amounts of garlic and hot sauce I had put on it. The worst of it, and the reason for the 1-star. My friend witnessed a server pick up ice cream that had fallen off the bucket WITH HER HANDS and put it back in the tub. That's gross. And I witnessed a server toss food that spilled out of the buffet tray back into the tray before wiping down with an old rag. Another gross. The price to get in was fairly expensive for it being a new restaurant, there was also not a great variation of food not what i was expecting for what i paid for. The service was okay it took awhile for my plates to get picked up and I don't know why since the buffet was empty. I also found a hair on my plate of food which was gross and overall ruined my experience even more. I would not recommend this place and I won't be coming here anymore. read more

3 adults and 1 child went here today. The pricing sign is a bit confusing. Part of it says children pay based on their age. We were asked the child's age. The sign also lists prices for Saturday and Sunday. It was Sunday. We were then charged an adult price for the child. If it wasn't different why did they ask her age? The sushi was awful and dry. It had an odor. The 2 of us who got it didn't eat it after tasting it. The Hibachi was tasteless and, even though there was only 1 person ahead of us, it took well over 10 minutes to receive it. The shrimp was completely overcooked, the chicken and beef were so overcooked they were tough. The child got noodles which were okay but the egg drop soup was greasy and gelatinous. The hot and sour soup was awful. All you could taste was the spice. The cold shrimp was mushy. The ice cream was good. The jello was like squares of rubber. Some of the vegetable dishes were edible. The cakes were dry. Most of our meals were inedible and trying to get something to substitute was fruitless with pork ribs dry and fatty. Chicken dry, Pork shoulder overcooked. Their name now says "New Osaka Grill and Buffet". If this is "New" it is frightening to think of how the old one was! None of us felt well after eating here. We will certainly never go back nor do we recommend anyone to eat there read more

I headed here for lunch and ended up getting a small meal to go. The front desk attendant was ready to seat me right away. I hesitated when i saw the signs at the front desk for gratitude fees for four or more people and the sign stating there was an additional fee for credit card transactions. The front desk attendant encouraged me to look at the buffet before deciding to have lunch elsewhere. The food looked hot and was presented well. I ended up getting food by the pound to go. The front desk attendant needed to look at the food I put in my container before he ring it up in the register and made comments saying how low the price was and that I should look at the sushi bar available. The place was air conditioned, with no natural light, and lots of seating. It was not very crowded during my lunch visit. The menu had many options for takeout. read more

Up front, we paid $90 for 2 adults and 2 kids to eat in. The food options were minimal at best and were not very appealing. The sushi looked dry and in disarray like it had been sitting there for a very long time. The hibachi area was dirty and abandoned with uncooked food sitting there cross contaminating. Sign says new so I gave it a try. Still very disappointing. The sushi was terrible. No variety, it sat so long the rice was getting hard. The fried donuts weren't edible. Service, other than bringing drinks upon arrival, never actually seen server as used plates were removed in our absence, no drink refill requests, and I don't know who is responsible for restaurant etiquette but why do I have to listen to various movies/ videos on multiple surrounding, media devices with volumes that have to be loud because my hearing isn't so good and I'm hearing loud and clear It's very annoying to me, as I'm sure as it is to others. On the pricier side, especially dinner (over the weekend is even more expensive - 20 plus dollars with no drink or tip included!) food is decent, nothing to rave about but you can eat as much as you want! XD my favorite is the MEAT! This is my second time being here. The food is mediocre at best. Of course it's a buffet so food will be sitting out and losing quality. If you're really hungry you'll eat it. The service was ok, but waitress didn't come by to refill drinks. My food complaints: The rolls I got were hard, and the pastries I got were really dry. The chicken was good though. We've been looking for an Oriental buffet for awhile. Couldn't even tell this restaurant was open but we heard it was so we decided to try. As soon as we paid the cashier wanted us to leave a tip. Sorry, no, we tip based on service. The restaurant is huge but sadly empty. Only 2 other people were there when we walked in & only 2 others came for take out while we were there. The steam tables were steaming but the food was barely warm. The items were not grouped with like items so you had to be sure to look at all the tables to find what you wanted. Crab rangoons were extremely small & egg rolls were tough from sitting out so long and these are two of the first things we look for. My family usually go to BC Osaka Hibachi Sushi & Buffet in Joliet for the crabs. But last Sunday we went to Osaka Grill and Supreme Buffet in Bolingbrook because we had to go to Home Depot next door. The two restaurants, while they named similarly and basically offer similar menu, are not owned and operated by the same owners or management. Let me tell you right on. the one in Joliet is really a much better option. Anyway, last Sunday, there were four of us, and being crab lovers, we got two extra plates of crabs to share. We get extra plates of crabs because in places like this, crabs are the first ones to run out and it takes time for the restaurant to replenish the trays. Mind you we are not the only ones who do this. A lot of people do. Back ot our table, we were approached by their manager who told us we should not get that many crabs, crabs that were skinny and only had 10% meat in it anyway. We told him we will consume all of what we took. Basically, Crabs were the only highlight in this restaurant who displayed 47 trays of food as their main dishes, but only 7 were beef and chicken, and only 7 were seafood, the rest were carbs like potato, bread, Mac and cheese, etc. and they call themselves the supreme buffet. The sushi hardly had any fish in it It was mostly imitation crab. The hibachi grill had 17 trays of vegetables and only 2 trays of meat and 2 of seafood. If it make it better, they had 11 kinds of dessert and 25 trays in their salad bar which includes fruits. So is this all-you-can eat buffet when you are told to cut down on servings? His excuse was, You can always go back for fresher crabs. Yeah right, like they keep their trays filled up. It's already a hard enough to decide what you put in your plate with the less appetizing items on their menu, so why spoil our appetite even more. Not coming back. read more

I'd give this place no stars if i could. The food is not as good as it once was. For starters, they've upped the price so just for 2 people it was almost $35. There are PLENTY of other places you could eat at for this price or much lower that have amazing menu items. This was just not it. The food is also horribly cold, i don't know why because some of it was barely put out. The food is also just not good, I feel horrible about all the calories I wasted here. The drinks are also horribly watered down. My server asked if i wanted more coke and I said sure but no ice this time. Tell me why she brought me the same coke with the same ice back. You get what you pay for. - Lesson Learned! Dinner Buffet $9.99 + $1.67 (drink) = Deceiving Deal ... So I made a trip back to the suburbs to visit family. One of my relatives mentioned seeing a flyer for a new buffet that opened up nearby. Naturally, our curiosity would lead us to try it out. Now I am kicking myself in the ass for biting my tongue and not suggesting an alternate dinner option. Let's talk about Osaka. Driving up to the location, you see a sign but no door? That's because it sort of shares its entrance with the Goodwill next door that totally takes over everything. (maybe foreshadowing?) Once you finally find the door, you are greeted with a "stone" fountain and a peculiar smell (equivalent to "new car"). At Osaka you pay before you eat.. I don't see this often, but I also haven't frequented buffets in a while. So that's whatever. There's private seating sections towards the entrance and a lot of seating elsewhere so I guess that's nice. The decor is reminiscent of Vegas circa 1998. Blaring neon lights .. repeat of misspelled food labels (see photo).. etc. Well onto the food.. There's several stations set up with a lot of offerings which caters to people with many tastes. Cool, but that does me no benefit if the food is near unpalatable. A lot of things taste weird, or are just plain terrible. The sushi was offensive.. I got a big bite of rice and cream cheese... and the fish, well. fishy. Chinese dishes are probably their strongest suit (which is funny b/c the place is called Osaka which is a city in Japan..) but in this case I use "strong" loosely. Stir fries are mediocre, egg rolls rancid, etc. luckily I took bite sized portions of most things.. They also managed to botch "Hot and Soure" soup.. (their spelling, not mine). Salad bar is underwhelming and the American section offers some suspect "Prime Rib" (actually, just big chunks of beef slow cooked in broth) and a huge pork loin that's overcooked and monotone. The only thing I honestly enjoyed there were the spicy crayfish.. but they were salty as hell. I found myself full after downing 3 glasses of water (which I had to pay for). Let's just say, I personally won't be returning. But if you're looking for something to fill you up quick, and cleanse your digestive tract even faster.. this place will do the trick. This place is the favorite of a friend, and so I have joined her for the 3rd and final time. There are never enough fresh sushi rolls on the table. Obviously management doesn't want waste but still never ever enough fresh sushi. Yesterday I pulled a wire with a small relay attached to it from my plate. As long as you set your standards for Osaka to the same that you would any strip mall Asian buffet, you'll do all right here. First of all, finding the place. It's awkwardly placed right next to a Goodwill, with the two entrances side-by-side. Never saw a set-up like that, but I guess it works. I'd also never seen a lotto machine right next to a kid's crane game, yet you also see that in Osaka. Like I said, not too much exciting. Per usual, stay away from the "American" food and the not so fresh sushi. They awkwardly have a prime rib in one of their trays, which is rough to cut with your option of fork, spoon, or chopsticks (you need to ask for the knife). The Chinese/Asian fare they have here is passable enough. Crab rangoon, black pepper chicken, sauteed mushrooms, chicken and broccoli. Nothing too surprising, but as a lover of crappy Chinese food I was satisfied. Osaka isn't something I'd make a trip for, but for the purpose it served this past weekend (that is, feeding a couple dozen friends and family) it did its job. read more

we drove an hour to come eat here and were very disappointed. I was there with my husband to older kids and a newborn and a 1 1/2 year old. It cost us 90 dollars which we were happy to pay until we seen and tasted the buffet. The chicken was rancid and they still cooked and served it. The clams looked good but had been sitting for hours so I had to make sure the kids didn't eat that. Nothing was fresh not even the sushi rolls in the back. when on the way home my husband and I started getting sick. Meh I would say. This place doesn't really have that large a selection. If you want to see an impressively large Asian buffet, go to Royal Buffet in Schaumburg. The selections were also average to lower than average quality, but hey, it was only $10.60 pp for dinner, so one really can't complain that much. The seafood spaghetti and fried frog legs were particularly pretty bad tasting. I did find most of the chicken items to be decent quality - items like fried chicken, crispy chicken, orange chicken, etc and I would personally stick to those for a cheap meal outing here. So the staff we're super friendly, here were my Issues: Very poor selection. All the food had been sitting there probably for hours and the egg drop soup was Lukewarm. The only noodle option they had was lo mein that was literally burning to the pan. Most of the wells that the pans were in had barely any water so it was burning the wells and cooking the food faster than I guess they anticipated. Onto the actual food. The Mac n cheese we got for my daughter was just dreadful and the mashed potato's were desert dry. The cantaloupe had no flavor and what I thought were pear slices were very watered down pineapple slices. The only actual food items I got was the black pepper chicken, the mushrooms, and the egg drop soup. Cause to be honest? Nothing else there was appealing to me. I really hope that they can do better. And they really need to lower the prices from $14 a person plus drinks so more like $17 a person cause for 2 adults plus drinks it was $34 for a terrible selection of disappointing food ‍ read more
