Hickory 's BBQ Beef Brisket Sandwich and Onion Rings
    Samantha C.

This is one interesting place and I dig it! Be prepared to circle around the block for parking (metered parking that is) as this place is right on a main street. Once you find a spot and head towards this BBQ joint upon entering you will head through saloon doors. And that's only the beginning... The novelty of this place makes my heart explode. Jimi Hendrix and other classic rock artist concert posters darn the walls and there are random knock knacks floating around that make you feel like you're at an older relative's home. I make my way to the counter and order my brisket sandwich with a side of onion rings. The person behind the counter is very patient as per usual it takes me forever to make this decision. But the right decision it was! My brisket was some of the most tender and flavorful I have ever had. Their BBQ sauce was more tangy than sweet which is how I like it. All this was placed on a sesame seed bun. Oh and their onion rings, amazing! The batter was flavorful and my rings were fried to perfection. The onion to batter ratio was just right and this was the perfect side to my sandwich.

Best BBQ we've had on LI!! We've been taking out from here for years now, and have never had a bad meal. In fact, They were all delicious. It's such a pleasure to find barbecue that's not slathered in sugar! I want to point out that they do NOT use sugar in a lot of what they serve, making it an option for diabetics. In my house, we have a Type1 diabetic whose blood sugar is stable after eating Hickory's chili, spareribs and coleslaw. What a treat! Plus, their BBQ sauce is very low in sugar. Everything's unbelievably tasty. Highly recommended for everyone!

I'm happy to have checked this little spot off my list! When i walked in i was greeted by a very kind man - seemed like he owned the place. The decor inside is all wood so it really makes you feel like you're on the country side! i ordered a 7 piece bbq wings with fries on the side. The portion was huge and just perfect for me ! The wing were super hot and the bbq was the sweet kind. The fries were thick and perfectly salted. It was fantastic. I would recommend this spot if you're on the area.

I come here a lot time cause it's close. Pretty ok bbq. The issue is the meat is heavy and extremely sauced. Cajun fries are good.

Fortunately, we did arrive early, since over the next hour the restaurant filled up, with quite a few people waiting for a table. The restaurant is unpretentious, with seating fairly close together. Now for the food. Before ordering, the owner stopped by, and told us some of the restaurants history, and him being the longtime owner of over 4 decades. He then recited the evenings specials along with interjecting a couple of very funny stories. Each special sounded incredible, and we began our meal with a couple of glasses of a tasty Montepulciano. We shared, one the evening's special appetizers of luscious & creamy zucchini flowers. For entrees my wife ordered one the specials of shrimp stuffed with lump crab meat, in a lobster sauce. She couldn't stop talking about how fantastic it tasted. My only comment was although outstanding, the portion size consisted of 4 shrimp, which was more than enough for my wife, but someone with a bigger appetite may find the order a bit skimpy. For my entree I was drawn to something, which I rarely see on a menu, chicken livers. Although, I thought, for sure, that was what I would choose, the owner in going over the specials cited some of the best menu items, one of which was lasagna. I then told the owner about my dilemma, and I asked him to choose, and the lasagna won out. Although, I missed not having the chicken livers, I consider myself a lasagna aficionado, and, without question, this lasagna moved up to near the top of the list. We ended the meal by having a homemade chocolate layer cake, which was divine. I apologize for not taking any pictures, but I was so excited about the food that my taste buds overrode any thoughts of snapping photos. Finally, definitely run to this restaurant ASAP, but, if possible, I recommend, if possible, to go during the week to avoid the crowds of an obviously very popular restaurant.

They start you off with some warm buns served with honey butter and they were GOOD. So good that we asked for more and then tried to stop ourselves from devouring them before our food even arrived. For appetizer, we ordered the crispy calamari. The batter was very light and the calamari itself was so delicate and sweet. You can definitely tell how fresh the seafood is and that stayed true for the rest of our meal. For pastas, we got the spaghetti fra diavolo containing lobster and shrimp. Again, the seafood was fresh, sweet, and tender. The pasta was also a shocker, not only was it perfectly firm, it had such a nice chewy texture. You can feel and taste how homemade the pasta is. Next, the rigatoni eggplant was our unexpected favorite. The pasta texture was even better with the rigatoni shape and the eggplant was not even noticeable, it blended in so well with the sauce. The ricotta on top was the perfect creamy addition. For proteins, the pork chop was very tender and juicy. The sweet glaze wasn't overly sweet and it really complimented the savoriness of the meat. The brussel sprouts on this dish were also outstanding. I love when a restaurant doesn't treat the veggies as a side dish! The branzino was light and refreshing, it was a really great balance to the other saucier dishes we had. The service was extremely attentive and so friendly. Ali the owner and his talented staff always make the experience great no matter how busy the restaurant is. I came here with very good friends of mine that I knew loved Turkish food. We came here on Saturday night and when I arrived the restaurant was packed. The weather was perfect so we sat outside, there is ample parking either in their parking lot or across the street. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with hand blown glass chandeliers from Turkey. For the sake of brevity I'm going to list all the dishes we had. Each one had its own unique flavor down to the Lavos Hollow bread with its slightly buttery flavor. You have to try each one. Prices are very fair and portions are great. We had the eggplant with tomato sauce, Turkish Ezme, Calves liver cubes, a large Shepherd salad, for appetizers. For entrees we had two of the Bronzino, the Shrimp Shish, and the Lamb Shish. For desert we had the Chocolate Baklava, the Kunefe, the Turkish coffee, and a of the Apple tea. Ali made a couple of special dishes including an eggplant dish and home made hot Halvah for desert. It's amazing how small the world really is. My friends thought they knew the owner Ali but could not pinpoint from where. After talking for a while they realized they knew him from when he worked at another Turkish restaurant in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn called Liman. It has since moved to Coney Island. Ali opened Bosporus Cafe Grill in Port Washington in 2014 and I'm am glad he took the risk to go out on his own. His business partner is the chef and is also a butcher.
