I definitely agree with other Yelpers that the meat is pretty decent but to be aware that the sauce is on the sweeter side of what you are probably expecting. It's good, though it was not what I was expecting. Also, I do kind of wish there had been some sauce options. That being said, I'm glad we tried it out. My 1/4 lb pulled pork was delectable. I found it more flavorful than the brisket sandwich, but my partner thought the opposite. (Huh!) Keeping at 4 stars because the sweet potato fries were perfectly crispy. And addictive. This is one interesting place and I dig it! Be prepared to circle around the block for parking (metered parking that is) as this place is right on a main street. Once you find a spot and head towards this BBQ joint upon entering you will head through saloon doors. And that's only the beginning... The novelty of this place makes my heart explode. Jimi Hendrix and other classic rock artist concert posters darn the walls and there are random knock knacks floating around that make you feel like you're at an older relative's home. I make my way to the counter and order my brisket sandwich with a side of onion rings. The person behind the counter is very patient as per usual it takes me forever to make this decision. But the right decision it was! My brisket was some of the most tender and flavorful I have ever had. Their BBQ sauce was more tangy than sweet which is how I like it. Best BBQ we've had on LI!! We've been taking out from here for years now, and have never had a bad meal. In fact, They were all delicious. It's such a pleasure to find barbecue that's not slathered in sugar! I want to point out that they do NOT use sugar in a lot of what they serve, making it an option for diabetics. Based solely on the Ribs and the Brisket as that is all I tried! Surprised by the baby back ribs that were fall off the bone tender and a whole rack is really enough for two people. The brisket was also great and had a perfect smoked flavor. So the food in general was good, but the establishment could use some updating. The decor inside is all wood so it really makes you feel like you're on the country side! i ordered a 7 piece bbq wings with fries on the side. The portion was huge and just perfect for me ! The guy behind the counter was a little strange. We ate there, which felt a little weird, as we were the only ones, and the place just seemed really dirty and old. The food was pretty good though, I had the pulled pork sandwich, and my husband had a large meat platter. It was just a weird atmosphere / vibe inside and I hoped my bladder would hold out until I got home because I was afraid to use the bathroom. I had a 3 meat combination (Brisket, pulled pork and ribs), coleslaw, cornbread, fries and 2 sodas delivered via Doordash. It was hard to taste any difference between the 3 as they were all swimming in the same sweet BBQ sauce. The brisket was sliced so thin it almost appeared shaved. It was also gray, like it had been sitting in a steam table for a while. The coleslaw was OK, but tasted store bought. The cornbread was a little sweet for my taste. This place has been open for generations and I can see why. The wife had them cater my birthday and the food was really good. The staff here was really nice and did their best to customize our order to what we wanted. We got the brisket, ribs and chicken wings for a group of about 30. Everything we got tasted great but the best bite was the brisket. It was smoky and tender and melt in your mouth yummy. Wings were also really good. Ribs were decent but some bites were a bit tough, probably due to the large catering order. Prices here are really affordable. Service is good. The place is a bit old but thats how BBQ should be. I thought why not give it a try since the reviews seem promising. We had the platter (forgot what it's called) with the 3 different meats but everything was covered with the same BBQ sauce. Next to impossible to find authentic BBQ in the Northeast. Some cities have chains that have popped up, but that takes away from the whole BBQ experience. It's okay to get messy. They keep a roll of paper towels on the table. When you're really cool in High School and you get to eat off campus--- this is where all the delicious seekers go. I highly recommend everything on the menu, but especially the chicken sandwich with their spiced fries. It's crazy to me I'm recommending a chicken sandwich-- but this is just that flavorful and expertly charred. Great portions for the price! We had the combo which was brisket, pulled pork and ribs, and we left full and happy. The ribs were tender and came right off the bone. The brisket and pulled pork kind of meshed together, but it still tasted great. 3 meats, all a good portion for $20 is a win in my opinion. We also had the wings which were okay. Let me start by saying I'm a huge fan of BBQ so you had me at Hello. I've had BBQ in Mississippi, I've had BBQ in Kansas City, and I've had BBQ in Memphis. When I heard there was BBQ on Long Island I could wait to try it. This place is amazing. It's a jewel tucked away in Port Washington. I've had pulled pork so many times at other placed I wanted to try something different so I ventured to the brisket sandwich, which I later learned is smoked in the premise. The sandwich was tasty, and sauced to perfection. Followed up with some amazing fries this place can't be beat. The roll that the sandwich came on was delicious. Take full advantage of that roll of paper towels on the table you'll probably need them as you dig into your meal. The atmosphere is cozy, I sat next to the chiminea in the dining room which was keeping me nice and warm durning my meal. The owners were very hospitable and have been in the business a long time. The restaurant may look like a storefront but I can assure you this is not storefront quality food. I'm putting this one at the top of my list to return soon. Hands down, Hickory's is one of the best barbeque joints on Long Island. It's easy to miss this gem, and even many of the locals don't know of it's existance, even though it's been there for years. Menu items to keep an eye out for are the Chicken Special, a mouthwatering sandwich with swiss and bacon, and their ribs, which though are a bit more pricy than the rest of their menu, make me want to get in my car and head down there just thinking about them. If you have to wait for your meal for more than a few minutes, they also tend to provide their own special chips, drizzled with a spicy BBQ sauce and spices that are always completely gone by the time the meal is ready, not because of the time it takes to prepare the food, but because of how great they taste. Their staff, though a bit quirky, are overall very friendly. They also deliver, though their delivery radius is somewhat small (a disappointment because I live just outside their delivery zone). read more

First off, their food is excellent (especially their pulled pork). I have no qualms about this. My two issues are that the owner (I'm pretty sure it's the owner) sometimes comes off as grumpy and that they overcharge for their food. When I phone in a pickup order it seems as if I just asked him to do something he doesn't like. Then when I go to pick up the food, he overcharges. He has prices listed in four places (his website, and three places in the restaurant) and all four have different prices. Then when he rings you up, he invents yet another price (usually higher than the others) and his usual response is, "the website has the newest prices," that is, if he even answers you. Meanwhile, I'll check the website when I get back, and it's usually the lowest price... So the last time I went, after having to pay $6.50 for 7 wings (which should have been $4.95), I call him out on the price again and have him itemize everything. He does so (with the higher prices) and then adds on the tax. When I got back, I calculated it out and he charge me 12% tax!!! He gets two stars (and had several chances) because the food really is good, but I am still annoyed at the seemingly random prices. Edit: Thank you Ed for your quick response and for updating your prices (at least on your website. We'll see about the menus the next time I'm in). It becomes frustrating when I'm ordering for a group of us and collecting money to arrive and be short. Then I have to ask for more money from people and it becomes an unnecessary hassle. Since moving to Long Island I have been engaged in a desperate search to find a BBQ joint worth going to. I have searched long and wide, but have come away disappointed each time. That is, until tonight. My wife and I were up the street visiting family, and looking for somewhere to find a quick and affordable dinner. I had driven by Hickory's several times in the past... each time thinking "I should stop in there at some point..." Friends, I must tell you, I should have stopped each time I passed by. Seriously, this is really good BBQ. We got the BBQ Combo that came with ribs, pulled pork, and brisket... and it was tasty. Throw in french fries and rice and beans (they were out of slaw) and my wife and I tore it up. The ribs were tasty, the brisket was tasty, but the pulled pork was the star of the show... and the fries were FANTASTIC (yeah, I just went all-caps). You can tell the fries were made in house, and fried to perfection. We had a great meal in a little hole-in-the-wall place for less than $30... and were incredibly satisfied. Haven't had anything bad here yet. The California burger is a burger with lettuce, tomato, and guacamole. Good. The actual patty tastes fantastic. I get flak sometimes because I feel like most burgers don't deserve the hype, as people get distracted by fancy/lots of toppings and ignore the meat. That isn't the case at all at Hickory's, where all the ingredients come together like a delicious symphony. The marinated sliced steak sandiwch comes on toasted garlic bread and I got it with the recommended (for only 99 cents more!) sauteed onions and cheese. Goooooooooooooooood. The much raved spicy fries weren't as good as hyped but were still pretty delicious. Basically taste like Lawry's seasoned salt. All in all I like Hickory's. I like it alot. read more

Yummy chicken special sandwich!!! And they do a great job of wrapping it up to-go! Translation: they broke the sandwich down and kept everything separate, so it didnt get all soggy. Yay!
