The best garlic eggplant in the Sacramento area, hands down. I loooove eggplant and Hidden Dumpling House does it right. The outside is fried crispy and the inside is tender but not mushy. The sauce is perfectly sweet and spicy. I do wish that they served it as a combo plate with rice like their meat dishes, but it was good by itself too. The portion was also very generous. It was enough for 4 meals lol. The special beef noodle soup was delicious also. I was hesitant to get it because there wasn't a description of what the flavor was and the waiter couldn't answer either, but it ended up tasting good. It's a tomato based soup with carrots, thick noodles, and beef. The XLB were ok, but not soupy enough and the skin was too thick. I wouldn't reorder. Overall, tasty Chinese food. I'd recommend if you're in the area. It's out of the way for me, but I'd be ordering that eggplant again if I lived closer! read more

Walked in after going to the theater, the restaurant is seated in the middle of a good sized complex. Great food for a nice rainy evening, the value for the food can't be beaten at this place. I love dumplings so I was super excited to find out about this spot! I ordered: Xiao long bao - I was a bit disappointed with the lack of soup and meat filling inside it. It's a difficult dumpling to make and usually when places get it wrong its either too much meat and not enough soup or vice versa. This dumpling was lacking in both. I would bite into it and there would be a little bit of soup and the meat filling becomes disintegrated mush. I do appreciate the amount of ginger they give for the dipping sauce though. Chicken cilantro cabbage dumplings - Best dumpling I've had from this spot. Well filled and folded and none of the flavors were over bearing. Great balance between the chicken and cilantro. Pork chive shrimp dumplings - Decently wrapped and filled but is a bit on the salty side for my taste. I would opt out of using any or use very little of the vinegar dipping sauce as it can get overly salty quite easily. Taro ice blended w/ boba - I love the artificial taro flavor so this totally hit the spot and the boba was nice and chewy and fresh. Loved it, especially with the current heat. I actually think the food is okay. It's rare to see a dumpling house so it's certainly a treat. I still finished my food so it wasn't inedible. If I were to come back I would love to try their entrees because they looked amazing just observing them at the other tables. My main issue with my experience was actually the service. I'm not one to nitpick as I've worked in the industry before but I felt that there were quite a few micro-aggressions. Over the course of my meal it was apparent there was preferential treatment. To be brief, relative to other tables, waiters were not attentive to us at all, checking in with all other tables aside from us. My partner and I felt neglected as we often had to fight for waiters attention to get basic things like utensils. Even when we got utensils we didn't get any chopsticks like the other tables. So again, I had to fight for the waiters attention and even when I got the chopsticks they were to go chop sticks instead of the regular ones the other tables got. This is just a few out of the other things that happened. Isolated, they may seem like simple mistakes but all together they really add up and made me question why we were being treated differently. It made me really sad because I was really excited to eat here but I don't feel comfortable and unfortunately I don't think I'll come back. read more

First time here! I ordered a Pork and Chive dumplings and Chicken and Mushroom dumplings (supposedly!) It turned out that they accidentally made Chicken and Mushroom Bao instead and they compensated with cash so i'd take a free meal any day! The Pork and Chive dumplings were delicious! Soft and chewy as it should be. They took around 7-10 minutes for this plate to come by. The Chicken and Mushroom Bao were alright. I did not like the mushy taste of the combination. I also could not taste the mushroom. I'm not sure if it's because I ordered it to go so the freshness was not completely there. The interior is pretty tight with full view of the makings. *This review is solely based off of ordering via Doordash* I wanted to order some wonton soup and the new Hidden Dumpling House showed up on DoorDash. I've been wanting to visit ever since they opened up very recently. I don't really crave Chinese food often so this was a good chance to try it out. I ordered the wonton soup, honey walnut shrimp, beef chow fun and spicy wonton. It came out to $65 and that's before the tip and delivery taxes! I noticed the items were a few dollars higher than the actual paper menu listed, which I'm sure they did to offset their fees through DoorDash. But even their regular menu prices are a bit high considering the size of the to-go boxes we got. The wonton soup was probably the best out of the four items. There were a variety of ingredients and it was not short on wontons at all. The other items however were a complete miss. The "spicy wontons" were not spicy whatsoever. The fried wonton skin is way too much in comparison to filling ratio. I wish I had picked actual dumplings instead of these. The honey walnut shrimp pieces were very large but there were some breaded pieces with no shrimp in it! I was craving beef chow fun the most but it was so bland. Normally I feel like Chinese food can be pretty salty but this just had no flavor at all sadly and some of the noodles didn't have sauce and were still plain white so it wasn't mixed well. I was disappointed by this first experience but I'm also aware that to-go isn't the best way to eat food. I still want to visit the place in person to give them a fair chance and try out the actual dumplings, because maybe that's what they're truly best at. read more

I noticed that the seating seemed more spacious than when SEA Bowl was open. It was still pretty busy with diners at around 2 pm on a Sunday. Although they were a full house for dining in, they also had 2 tables outside for outdoor dining. We weren't sure what we wanted to try besides an order of dumplings, but I noticed a party had ordered fried calamari and that looked delicious...we ordered that and pork, shrimp, chive dumplings. We ordered to-go and they said our food would be ready in about 15 minutes. Our food came out hot and fresh. - Fried calamari - generous portion. The batter was flavorful, but it was quite oily/greasy feeling...not sure if the to-go container made it seem more oily, since there was a lot of oil in the container. My SO enjoyed it, but I don't think I would order it again. - Pork, shrimp, chive dumpling - my favorite dish of the two we ordered! I'm not sure if there's an option for pan fried...ours was steamed/boiled, but it was a good contrast for the fried calamari. It was very flavorful/seasoned well. Had to come check this place out, unfortunately I came on an extremely hot day so the inside of the restaurant was almost just as warm as it was outside. Although they had cooling fans the inside of the store was still extremely warm and stuffy. We ordered the Chinese pancake, the garlic eggplant, the beef and onion dumplings and the xiao long bao. Big fan of the eggplant. Didn't get too much of a garlic flavor from it, but it was still very tasty. Almost had a sweet/sour flavor to it. Included mini strips of bamboo and little pieces of woodear mushroom, which are both favorites of mine. The Chinese pancake was a little underwhelming. Although the outside of the pastry was really hot, the filling wasn't. There were some cold spots I bit into. The beef and onion dumplings were also really tasty. They came out nice and hot and the dipping sauce that came with it was just as delicious. The XLB wasn't my top choice. First time to the new restaurant. We usually don't like to drive to this direction due to the proximity to highway entrance / traffic. The restaurant has been renovated without the mural, though the Pokéstop is still here which is awesome! In addition with all the cute corgis decor. We tried the beef chow fun, Mongolian beef, walnut shrimp, fried chive dumplings, and beef and seafood and chive steamed dumplings. Service is good. We ordered before we left Greenacre and arrived and only have to wait like 5 minutes. They are very busy (full house) and apologetic to me (it's not even a wait compared to Well Sea__n wait time). Food makes with wok on fire, so you know it will be good authentic food. The food is 5 stars. We love everything! If we have to be extremely picky the shrimp is a bit on doughy side, but it taste so amazing and definitely above average if not one of the best. The fried dumplings is beyond awesome! The beef dishes is authentic with wok hay(yes I love watching Uncle Roger!). The stream dumplings was a bit disappointing because I was expecting more given the restaurant was named after it. I was super curious about the dumplings here and my sister was just hungry in general.....onwards to this place! We ended up doing a pickup order in which I got the pork, shrimp, and chives dumplings and my sister got the orange chicken combo with chow mein. My sister's food was filled to the brim in the styrofoam container......how could I resist taking a few bites just to sample? Well, those few bites turned into several because the combo was pretty tasty lol (good thing my sister wasn't *hangry* enough to mind my food-eating intrusion). Normally I would say that I wished that the orange chicken had a crisp to it, but the super-delicious orange sauce being absorbed into the chicken pieces was totally fine in my book. The chicken itself was melt-in-your-mouth and tasted fresh. Also, I liked how bouncy the chow mein noodles were (very garlic-y too, like garlic noodles with veggies, yum). I overall appreciated that none of the items in the combo was over-salted, which tends to be an issue in typical Chinese takeout food (at least for me). Okay okay, now onto the food that I actually ordered for myself lol. Succulent dumpling filling! I honestly prefer dumplings that are in lighter taste (minimal-seasoning, let-the-protein-do-the-talking kind of thing), and these dumplings were right up my alley. The dumpling wrapper could be a tad thinner though (just a nitpick). Also, as a suggestion to the staff crew, piling the dumplings into a square Chinese takeout box isn't the way to go as the dumplings were sticking so much to each other that it was kinda difficult separating them without ripping off some of the dumpling wrapping lol. I started looking for new Chinese Food options in Elk Grove and saw Hidden Dumpling House recently opened. They are at the same location as a previously good Asian restaurant with patio seating options and window view. This location is great for open air seating. We ordered Egg & Shrimp Fried Rice which was soft and tasted like a day old rice which is a good sign, I would have liked more vegetables on there like carrots. Pork, Shrimp, Chives Dumplings tasted healthy but was unappetizing. Spicy Wonton (Fried) Dumplings was probably the best out of the 3 dishes we tried, it was crispy and we liked the sauce. Food arrived 10 minutes after we ordered. Prices are as expected. Overall, the server was nice, the music was upbeat, I'll come back when they have more dumplings on their menu... for a restaurant with the name "dumpling", I expected more offering of dumplings. My teenage kids said the place was "mid", for you adults out there, that means mediocre. Saw that this just opened and wanted to try it out. The place is really small with just a few tables inside and one outside. I think it was a pole place before that just had take out. We were met by the owner, who was really nice. I asked for suggestions and she said that her dumplings were really good. We got the beef and chive one. Got the wor wonton soup and beef chow fun. The wife wanted to try the garlic noodles. I didn't like the dumplings much, all I could taste was the chives and not much flavor I had to use the sauce all the time. The wontons were good and fresh. The chow fun was fresh and also not bad. The portion was a little small. The garlic noodles were good to. The place has potential and we will have to try it again sometime. A big note to them is that there is no pictures or descriptions of the menu. It is very plain and short. Dumpling - 3 stars Glad to find a dumpling place in Elk Grove! It is a small restaurant with around 10 tables. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had a larger group and they kept us informed during the wait on which tables might work for us. Overall, the food was good but didn't taste entirely authentic. They also offer a fusion of a bunch of different types of Chinese cuisine so maybe that's asking too much. From order of favorite to least favorite: 1. Spicy garlic string beans - great garlic flavor, smells and tastes great. 2. Garlic noodles - tasty flavor and chewy noodles, however these are just noodles with no additional protein, vegetable, or garnish. 3. Kung Pao chicken - good kick and loved the peanuts as the extra touch. 4. Mongolian beef - beef was tender but felt like there wasn't a lot of beef compared to the amount of onions. 5. Spicy wontons - the sauce was good but not spicy at all. The wontons are also deep fried which is not how this dish is normally served. 6. Wonton soup - The wontons themselves were good but it came with a ton of other random toppings. Felt like the abundance of vegetables distracted from the flavor of the wontons. 7. Xiao Long Bao - the wrapper was thick and all of them stuck together, making it very difficult to pick up without the wrapper breaking and the soup spilling. 8. Siu Mai - didn't look or taste very authentic compared to traditional Cantonese dimsum. Too "watery" and soft. The food overall was decent with some specific standout items. I think it's a good option if you are nearby but I probably won't drive very far out of my way to visit. read more

New restaurant in the area so you know I had to test it out. Spoiler alert: this might be my new go to spot for Chinese food. Their garlic eggplant is my top dish here. It's not overly drenched in oil and the eggplant is perfectly cooked so that it's not slimey. They also added bamboo shoots, onions, and black fungus to the dish! My next favorite was the garlic noodles. There isn't a very strong garlic flavor, but there was enough that you could keep eating more and not have garlic breath. The noodles were delightfully chewy. You have the option of adding protein for only an additional $2. I also got the seafood dumplings which contains fish, shrimp, and cabbage. The texture of the dumplings were average and the filling could be bigger. I've had better seafood dumplings but my fiancé said their pork, shrimp, chives were pretty good so maybe their meat options are better for dumplings. The service here is awesome! The owner took my order over the phone and was so polite thanking me for everything single item I requested! She even apologized for labeling the dumpling boxes in Chinese when I asked for clarification. No need to apologize lady, you guys do what you need to do to succeed with your business! The combo was fine, a little salty, but felt equivalent to a panda express combo. Garlic noodles were very, very oily. The beef roll was outright laughable. The scallion Pancake used to roll looked more like a tortilla and for 13.99??? The soup Dumplings ended up getting comped because we had finished our entire meal before it had even arrived. The skin of the Dumplings was pretty good, but the meat and soup inside were not very good. The meat was mushy and not very much soup. They were also all varying shapes and sizes. This is my first visit to try out a new eats in my area. Let's start with the name Hidden Dumpling House because this is a hidden gem in Elk Grove. The customer service was impeccable! From walking in until leaving they provided excellent service which is very rare these days. To go with that excellent service was some very flavorful dishes. I went out with my husband for a date night and decided to come to Hidden Dumpling House to see what the hype was. Now I know why it has so many great reviews. Dish by dish it did not disappoint! I left here so full I wasn't even able to to eat my dessert so we took it to go. I don't even want to start with the portions. They are so generous with the portions of food you get. Let's talk about some of the dishes. The spicy green beans and the mapo tofu was one of my favorites. It has the perfect amount of spices which makes it so hard to stop eating. The Xiao Long Bao dipped in their sauce was such a perfect bite! I can go on and on about the food but it is best you go give this place a try if you haven't already. To be honest I truly enjoyed all the dishes. My husband and I ordered a total of 7 dishes. Yes 7 for the two of us. We are foodies that likes to try different dishes at new restaurants. When we find a good place to eat we will always return for more. We brought home the leftovers so now I will have something yummy to enjoy tomorrow for lunch. Happen to come across this spot while driving around looking for a place to grab a quick bite since the sushi spot we wanted to go was closed at the time. The restaurant is pretty small with probably about 10 tables or even less. Everytime I go to a dumpling spot I order Xiao Lobg Bao-soup dumplings so it was a given that was what I wanted. They came out steaming hot and they looked like a pretty good decent size. But once I bit the top of the dumpling it was kinda thick and there was hardly any soup inside. The filling inside was decent but not the best so I drench it with the dipping sauce and chili oil. The hubby ate one and was ok after that. I came here to have dinner with my family and found lots of other families eating here. We waited for about 20 minutes. I spent $100 for four people with 6 different dishes. It was well spent for the quality and quantity of food we ordered. My favorite amongst the dishes we got was the Sweet & Sour Chicken. The chicken was still crispy and had sweetness from the sauce. My mom loved the bun itself in the pork buns and reminded her more of a homemade style bun. Plenty of various meats in the Singaporean noodles. This was my second time back to this dumpling house. Why did we come back? It's literally 2.5 miles from our house and I was craving for their Hot Sour Soup. Yes I ordered Hot Sour Soup, it was just Ok today compared to our first time We also Garlic eggplant= it tasted more sweet & sour egg plants with very little taste of garlic= disappointed Orange chicken= decent Mongolian Beef= OK That sums it up Food was just ok, nothing to brag about nor recommend to Y'all Who knows, maybe your visit may be better! read more

The food was great the ambiance was nice but my personal server was trash, she kept skipping over me and my toddler I kept asking for our drinks and would smile nod and go assist someone else and she also gave away 2 of my ordered dishes even after I kept asking her what about this dish? And she took hella long to even come and take my order, and she gave my toddler this big ass glass cup and when another couple walked in she gave their toddler a kids cup and bib and took their order right away got all of their food out at once to them, she started to rush me with my meal and all along she hadn't even finished bringing me all of my dishes I ordered I finally got pissed and got snappy at her about how she kept neglecting to serve my table properly even with two other tables witnessing the situation and the cook literally yelled at her about giving away my dish to someone else about time she tried to apologize I was totally over the experience!! I would have says said she was being racist but she was the same way with a table before me they were leaving as me and my toddler was sitting and I heard a old white lady complaining about things as well so iono wtf her problem was but her particular service was pure shit! The dumplings were good enough and the beer was sweet tasting, I've never had Taiwanese beer before. The service was average, but if I was hungry and not busy talking a lot with my company I would of probably been annoyed with some of the delays. This place tastes a lot better than the one downtown. Been seeing this place on yelp and was thinking about it. After church we decided to try it out. This is a small little place but OMG the food was delicious. Price not too bad. The service is good and quick. The food is good and it comes out fast and steaming hot too. Is a good thing we got there when we did cause when we were done, there a long line of people waiting outside. Like I say the place is small. But good food.
