    Mapo Tofu
    Daniel H.

We've been here a few times and this was one of our go-to Chinese restaurants in Elk Grove. First off, the parking lot here sucks at times and we always had a plan B to go somewhere else if we couldn't find parking. The staff here was nice and helpful. The decor was simple and cozy. Their menu has changed a couple of times since we've first been here a few months ago. We ordered a lot of food over the times we've been here from Shrimp Siu Mai to Pork And Cabbage Dumplings to Xiao Long Bao to Beef Noodle Soup to Mongolian Beef to Garlic Eggplant to Chow Fun to Salt And Pepper Tofu to Honey Walnut Shrimp to Spicy Garlic Green Bean to Mapo Tofu to Mixed Vegetables to Black Pepper Beef. The Xiao Long Bao, Pork and Cabbage, Mongolian Beef, Chow Fun, and Mixed Vegetables were all delicious to us. We tried to order something new each time we ate here to try more of the menu. The restaurant can get busy but we haven't been when there's people waiting to come inside to be seated. Overall, I thought this restaurant was good and we'll be back in the future!

Hidden dumpling house has been highly talked about, and with their second location opening in midtown, Its been a popular spot for dumplings and Chinese dishes. We came for lunch and immediately noticed how packed it was. Once we were seated, patrons started to leave and we were able to order a sesame chicken lunch plate to share and cilantro chicken dumplings. Our food took quite a while to come out and it wasn't very warm. The sesame chicken was too sweet, rice was mushy, and noodles had no flavor. The dumplings were extremely dry and lacking cilantro. It did have carrots, though! So, if thats your thing you should try it. Overall, I am glad to have finally tried them out, but they're truly nothing to write home about.

Very cozy in the busy mini outlets right out of Elk Grove blvd exit. You wouldn't expect to see it until you accidentally come across it, I guess that just goes to show the meaning behind the name of the restaurant haha! This small and quaint place has history with the staff. They seem to be a family owned as they have a lot of charisma with each other. Let alone the entertainment you get while you're eating inside. The open kitchen brings a liveliness and wholesome feeling when you're there. You get to really see the preparation of your food. My food was decently. A bit oily on the deep fried shrimp, but the shrimp was HUGE! Very meaty! The siu mai was the star of the show for me as it was full of flavor and steamed to perfection. The wrap was chewy and cooked all the way through. If I could, I would've just ordered 3 more of that!

I'm sitting here right now finishing my meal and had to immediately leave a review. This food is SO DELICIOUS !!!!!! The portions are great and easy to share. Even the one combo dinner along with the apps was PLENTY of food for two people. We will have leftovers for sure. The server we had was so friendly and attentive. Our food came out super fast and was piping hot. The orange chicken was definitely the best orange chicken I've ever had and I am a connoisseur of orange chicken. So this means a lot. lol. I'm just so impressed by how much flavor everything has. The rice is flavorful and cooked perfectly. The chow mein noodles were fresh tasting and cooked perfectly and was also well flavored. The chicken was also cooked perfectly and had a nice crispy fried coating but wasn't greasy. Everything had actual layers of flavor. Someone back there knows what they are doing with this food. Their chefs deserve lots of praise. We will absolutely be back next time we are in town. I can't wait to try some of their boba and teas next time. This place is a must try if you're in the area! Don't miss out.

We came here Wednesday evening and they were not busy. We got in and were immediately greeted and seated. It is a pretty small restaurant with few tables. They have couple tables outside as well. We decided on xiao long bao, beef & onion dumplings and pineapple seafood fried rice. The dumplings and fried rice came out promptly but xiao long bao took longer to come out. Beef dumplings were juicy but i felt the skin was a bit too thick. Fried rice was interesting and flavorful. Xiao long bao was good and solid. We ordered another set of xiao long bao as my boyfriend's mom really loved it. Portion overall was decent. Server was nice and friendly. Even though they were not busy with dine in customers, they had a lot of to-go orders.

Tried this place out with my gf and it was pretty good! The dining area is small and limited, so you may not be able to get a seat if the place was busy. Ive been here twice and havent had to wait for a table. Ive sat at the big table and small table and you most likely struggle with space if you order more than 3 plates. Everything was tasty and the deluxe fried rice was especially delicious! We also got the siu mai and xiaolong bao. Siu mai was tasty but nothing special. Just exactly as I expected. Then of course, the xiaolong bao. It tasted good, but we've definitely had better. The xiaolong bao here doesn't contain as much broth as other places we have been to. It was still tasty and contained a decent amount of broth, but the skin was pretty thin and would sometimes break while we tried to pick up the xiaolong bao. The xiaolong bao also comes with its own dipping, but we don't prefer it because it is sort of sour. We prefer soy sauce and chili oil instead. Overall, it is a good small spot and we would come back for the deluxe fried rice! Will need to try the rest of the menu!

I will say I never expected mapo tofu to taste like this, to taste this good and go unknown to me is sad and shameful judging of what I thought would be. I loved the flavor on it, but I will say if it is advertised as spicy I dont want mild I want a bit of a kick to it, maybe they tone it down cause they see my pale complexion and guess that I find bell peppers spicy you never know. Service was ok, and it was a chill spot in general. Twas a date with the Misses.

Hidden Dumpling is a Chinese restaurant in Elk Grove. Two weeks ago, my parents, my grandmother, and I went there for lunch. The black pepper beef dish is mixed with veggies and the xiao long bao is the same in Tasty Dumpling. Also, the Singapore Style Noodle is the same as Nathan's.

I was in the area running errands and decided to stop by because I hadn't had lunch and it was already after 3pm on a weekday. I walked in and the team immediately greeted me and asked if I was dining in or picking up. I opted to order takeout since I still had some meetings and had to get home. I ordered potstickers (8 for $9.99), XLB (8 for $14.99), General Tso's chicken ($14.59), and pork chow fun ($12.99 + $4 for pork). I paid $73.81 total after tax and tip. I hung out to wait for the food and it didn't take too long for it to be ready. They packed everything with care and I drove home to enjoy everything. I was so hungry that I ate the potstickers on the way home and they were crunchy, but definitely wanted sauce. I should have waited until I got home but I still enjoyed them fresh and hot. The XLB was delicious and still juicy after my drive home, these we enjoyed with the sauce and it's always a great flavor combination. The General Tso's I ordered was a large portion of just the entree (no rice) but had a great flavor and was really saucy. I ended up mixing the chicken with some of the chow fun noodles and that was a great combination. The chow fun was delicious, but I think I would go without the added pork next time, especially since I mixed some of the chicken with it. All this food was easily enough for two people to have multiple meals. The restaurant itself was cute and had coloring pages from customers on the walls. The parking lot was busy but big enough to find a spot relatively easily and even though it was a weird hour they had a steady stream of pick up orders.

This place is great to dine with friends and family as they have really generous serving platters to share. The honey walnut shrimp and sautéed green beans were amazing!!

I've ordered takeout here before, but today was my first time dining in. The restaurant is a bit small inside, but we didn't have to wait long for a table since we came on a Tuesday. Our food and drinks were delicious. Good portions on the food. The service was a little slow--I had to ask someone for a refill on water and for our check, but the restaurant might have been short-staffed. The employees were nice though. I think I'd prefer to order takeout from here than dine in.

Are gluten free dumplings and soup dumplings available?

We have them available at this location upon request!

Are the gluten free items cooked in a separate fryer to prevent cross contamination?

No unfortunately we do not have the space for an additional fryer at this time.

Hi, Do you sell frozen uncooked dumplings? Thank you

We don’t yet officially(we plan to within 1-2 months) but we could! Please message us at hiddendumplinghouse@gmail.com

Do you do delivery or take out / dine in only? Thanks

Hey thanks for reaching out! We're working on getting all the delivery apps set up. But we do offer takeout!

Hi! Do you guys have plans for chicken, seafood, vegetarian and vegan dumplings? Thank you!!

Hey! Great question! Originally we were going to offer every kind we could think of including gluten free. But we quickly realized how many employees it would take just to keep up. But we are hoping that once we are on our feet we can bring on more…

Can we see the dumpling menu?

They only have 4 kinds right now. I spoke with the owner and they are adding more soon I guess Beef…

They are always so very busy, so don't expect customer service there, just great food. Licious has the exact opposite, great service and okay food. We ordered the following: Szechuan green beans- cooked perfectly with a crunch still. Lacked flavor- not spicy. Fish and tofu clay pot- the fish tasted sweet, oddly. The fried tofu was perfect. Juicy and soft, Beef short ribs skillet- very fatty. You are paying for fat. Maybe it was a bad day. Tiger prawns with pumpkin- it is battered with salted egg, but it's not that salty. I wish it was saltier because I love salted egg. Battered and fried perfectly!!! The Tiger prawns are HUGE!!!!!! I've never eaten such big prawns in my life. The pumpkin was so soft and sweet with the perfect crunch from the salted egg batter. IT JUST NEEDED MORE SALT. Lots of pumpkin! Lobster- lacked flavor and was a very small lobster with not a lot of meat. Salt and pepper fried tofu for appetizer- yummy yummy. Perfect. Whole roasted duck- flavor was perfect, but the skin texture was stale. It wasn't like how it tastes at Tealicious. I don't know why the skin wasn't crunchy. Shrimp and egg chow fun- lacked flavor and too wet. Service was amazing for our two tables total of 18. They kept checking on us and even packed all of our food. There were two servers and only 3 other small tables with ours. The restaurant is quite small and is only for up to I believe 35 people on Theo occupant load signage. I would come back if I craved the Tiger prawns with pumpkin, but nothing else we tried. Maybe I'll try the fried rice next time and do an updated review.

I was feeling late night snacks so I got sweet-n-sour shrimp (my fave), salt-n-pepper wings (bc why not), and Mandarin chicken because the photos looked so good. Here's my opinion. Shrimp was perf. I love when they are straight and tailess with puffy/crunchy batter, the serving was legit too. The wings were yummy but a once in a while thing I would order if you ask me. The batter is thick and super crisp like a shell and so salty and flavorful in a good way. Came with lots of onions and jalapeños as it should and they chicken itself had a nice almost garlic marinated flavor. The chicken itself was piping hot and the best part. Just 'a lot' to eat-eat for a dinner. The Mandarin chicken was my least favorite just because it was a bit sweet for my liking. The upside is all their chicken this style is always big juicy all white breast meat chunks, nothing unrecognizable. My boys loved it, me not so much due to sweetness and being bready. All in all I still love this place and it is consistently good. If you love orange chicken get that for sure. When I picked up it was a tad warm inside the restaurant. They had the back door open in the kitchen, and it was 103 as a high so it wasn't refreshing to sit down and eat there.

Maybe the 20th??) of our dear dear friend, Hawaiian Elite TERRY K. coming back to visit with us! THE SETUP Such an incredible restaurant with great seating to support an incredible array of Chinese dishes and beverages! I'm actually in agreement with my friend & fellow Yelper David V. who said, "This place is like a high-quality Panda Express. Is that a good thing? You decide!" And David is right! By that I enthusiastically interpret his opinion as Tea Garden being incredibly ACCESSIBLE to every palette of customer: from those who are just casual Chinese food eaters, to the far FAR more demanding Asian appetites of friends who have much more experience with the wide diversity of Chinese cuisine and know how to ask for it, focusing on seafood, chicken, beef, vegetables, noodes, chilis, spice! PARKING AND "Parking"! It's kind of wild, but I find this more and more to be the case with great ethnic cuisine establishments, that delicious restaurants such as this find themselves in a STRIP MALL. Hey, nothing wrong with that, either! Cheaper rent means cheaper prices on the restaurant food. It ALSO often means tons of free plaza parking as in this case. So much for the car parking, not about where you "park" yer butt! We had a crew of eight (8) and all of us came with the attitude of "Let's try as many dishes as we can!": the large round tables with the large lazy-susans were the best method to make that plan work. If you are only 2-4 people, regular seating at rectangular tables will work just find. THE FOOD! And as I indicated earlier, we had a plethora of dishes: * Delicious broth & veggie soup to start * Crispy Eggrolls with Sweet & Sour Sauce * Crispy Shrimp with Sweet Chili Sauce * Chinese Chicken Caesar Salad * Fried Rice with Chicken & Shrimp * Broccoli Beef * Chicken Tso Chicken....and.... ...I can't remember what else! There was a LOT, but it becomes a blur after all the chicken and beef and shrimp and eggrolls I was devouring! THE LOWDOWN Suffice it to say, if you come with friends and an appetite, you are going to be soooo satiated! And in addition, I lucked out since half our friends were from the Bay Area and they sent me home with a large (LARGE) share of the leftovers that lasted me the week after that weekend banquet! Good food! Reasonably priced! Tons O' Fun!

The restaurant was under its original owner, Nathan, for more than a decade before changing hands and shifting its focus to Chinese dim sum. They also switched from the traditional dim sum carts to a paper checklist menu: you just check off what you want and hand it to the server. Service: Friendly and efficient. Ambiance: Very casual and family-style. The décor is a little dated, with low ceilings. Definitely has that old-school mom-and-pop, hole-in-the-wall feel. Restroom: Decent and clean. Food: Overall, decent. Not the best dim sum I've had, but considering the prices, it's a pretty good deal. *Porridge: Good texture, but there wasn't much egg or meat in it. *Siu Mai & Har Gow: Tasty, but I wish the wrappers were thinner. *Chicken Feet & Bean Curd Skin Roll: Good flavor and nice and tender. *BBQ Pork Bun, Steamed Pork Bun & Custard Bun: Warm, fluffy, and enjoyable. *Egg Tart: Lightly sweet with a nice texture. *Supreme Soy Sauce Chow Mein: Too dry for me and almost no flavor. This was probably my least favorite. Overall, the food is decent, but the prices are the real winner here. If you don't mind waiting in line, this is a great option when you're craving dim sum without spending a lot!

This restaurant is a to-go only restaurant, and gets plenty of traffic from the area. I went midday (3:00pm) and there were at least 4 customers in and out during the time I was there. While I was checking their menu, I decided to order, since I remember how good their chicken wings are. I ordered the chicken wings, and a lunch combo with chicken with black bean sauce. The combo comes with chow mein and fried rice and an egg roll for $13.99 but I asked for steam rice instead of fried rice. Unfortunately, I didn't check my plate before leaving the restaurant because they gave me all steam rice and no chow mein. Despite the error, their chicken wings are still the best, and the chicken with black bean sauce was very good. I would've like to have tried the chow mein. Also, I didn't notice that they charged $16.99 for the plate, which was a little steep considering I got no chow mein. Some of the condiments are extra, like the hot mustard, so ask for it before they ring up your bill. I'm sure I'll be going back for the chicken wings because it's made fresh and it's really good.

Don't ask for hot sauce, chili oil, or anything extra because they say no. They do have hot mustard and sweet and sour sauce for sale. This place has no frills, just good, fresh and generous portions. My new go to spot if you want good Chinese food. I ordered the sesame chicken lunch special, $14.25. After tax and cash discount, $15.50. It smacked. Waiting are is covered in pictures of their plates. It's worth to look at.
