This place is blessed by a hummingbird making a nest outside of it Chinese hamburger: I had to know what the Chinese burger was, and turns out it is something I've been meaning to try for a while! It is basically like the kind of soft bao bread you would get with peking duck, but bigger, pan fried on both sides, cut in half, and filled with what dreams are made of. The filling is extremely tender, fatty pork belly, mixed with [Parsley? Cilantro?], [bell?] pepper, chives, onions... a little sweet, savory, I took a bite and immediately regretted sharing the other one with my partner. The whole thing is extremely tender so it's a little messy, but I wouldn't change a thing. Would definitely get again. Xiao long bao (soup dumplings/xlb): I've never been a huge fan of xlb and these didn't change my mind. They were decent, standard pork dumplings. If you like xlb you'll prolly think they're decent. Cabbage and pork dumplings: I liked these more than the xlb, found they were more flavorful. A little sweeter from the cabbage, which I like. Though my favorite dumplings are still from the dumpling and tea house on Freeport blvd because of the thicker chewy skins and the sweeter sauce profile. It's just my own preference. Singapore noodles: These were also decent. Lots of flavor and a mild-medium spice kick. It's like turmeric, cardamom, and some other spices I'm not familiar with to make a light curry sauce to coat the noodles, shrimp, bbq pork, chicken, and onions. I wish the onions were not as raw - I'm not sure if the are supposed to be more raw though. My friend who really loves this dish in general said that it was not the best but pretty good compared to other ones he has had in the past. Green beans: This dish is good pretty much anywhere. It is braised green beans with a sweet and spicy sauce that is basically hoisin and maybe garlic chili oil. You gotta have greens when you eat! Chinese vegetable dishes are supreme because they are often sweet and salty, making you crave more. Wintermelon tea: I love the smaller size and design of these cups. Of course, I will always prefer a reusable glass cup though. There is no standard for tea sweetness here, but I would say it was like a 65-70% sweetness - not TOO sweet, but still quite sweet. I liked it a lot. I think they should sell t shirts with the corgi design, it's super cute. We were jealous of their aprons lol The 5 of us sat outside and it was pretty nice. Shaded, a little windy but overall pretty nice and the traffic didn't bother us at all. Their Mongolian beef was A++ I would travel back just for that dish alone. We got the dinner size with steam rice, chow mein and an eggroll. Everything was good (although the rice was a little dry/maybe day old). We tried the chicken and cilantro dumplings and those were so flavorful -- the cilantro and ginger was potent (and we loved that). We also tried their pork buns -- they were okay, but not my favorite. Unfortunately, we decided to visit on a day that Sacramento's temperature was over 100 degrees and didn't realize this was going to be a very small restaurant with the kitchen's heat spreading throughout. So -- let's just say we were legitimately sweating, wiping droplets off our face as we ate here! They allowed us to move further away from the kitchen, but our second table wasn't much better. A fun little place in a shopping center. The dumplings are the stars here, with a variety of options (including vegetarian and gluten-free, and they said that they are willing to make adjustments to most dishes to accommodate allergies). The dumplings were quite good. The other dishes we tried were a step up from Panda Express, good but not terribly exciting. The rice was cool and a bit undercooked, but we were there for the dumplings, and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed them quite a bit. The service was friendly, but a bit spotty, but I attribute that to the place being very busy for Saturday night. I think that at a less busy time it would be good, as the staff were all friendly. After such an awful experience at Oz, we found Hidden Dumpling House and our spirits were lifted by good service and good food. The table was waiting for us when we got here. The server was so nice to adjust the blinds since the sun was out and it was very bright where we were. We ordered XLB, pork buns, garlic noodles, honey walnut shrimp, chow fun, fried tofu, Kung pao chicken and dumplings. Yes we were very hungry haha but it was such a good meal. I enjoyed every dish that we ordered. Especially the fried tofu. Loved it so much and the fried jalapeño and onion was so good. The garlic noodle and chow fun tastes delicious. I love it when chow fun has that wok burnt smell. Super flavorful. The only thing that I wouldn't order again is the pork buns. It's a huge bun and was steaming when they brought it out but the ratio of bun to filling is off. It does taste better if you put some chili oil and soy sauce on it. What a hidden gem this place is and I am so happy we found it. As soon as I walked to the front door I was hit with amazing smells of food, but the smell doesn't come close to how absolutely fantastic the food tastes! We were immediately greeted by a very sweet staff member, and seated very quickly. I love the small cafe home feeling I got from the cute set up. To eat I had the Mongolian beef dinner plate (sorry I was so hungry and mesmerized by the food I forgot to take picture). The beef was so tender and the spice level was so perfect. The plate came with both chow mein and fried frice which both were some of the best I have had as of yet in Sacramento. The portion size of the dinner plate was so great for the reasonable cost of a great meal. I also had the beef and onion dumplings which were seasoned so well you didn't even need the dipping sauce. To drink I wanted to try a milk tea for the first time so the waiter suggested one without boba. It came in the absolutely cutest cup, which was just an added smile! Unfortunately the flavor of floral notes was too over powering and I didn't really like it, but the waiter was so very nice to remake a milk tea in a brown sugar black milk tea that I absolutely loved! I ate them because i was hungry but the chow mein protein was mushy and was just not a great combination. The honey walnut shrimp were crispy but the coating was a little off. Had way more mayo than anything else. The xiao LB was the better of everything and even then they were missing something to them. The service was okay. They certainly took long for my friend to get her POWDER taro drink. And they didn't give us chopsticks like the other people eating or spoons for that matter. Seemed a little weird. My friend and I came around 5:45pm, it wasn't too busy and we were seated immediately! The inside is fairly small so i wouldn't recommend for a huge party! My friend said the interior reminded her of cafes in koreans movies and I agree! We ordered - Fried Spicy Wontons: I never had my wontons fried before but it was a nice surprise! The crunch was so good, this was definitely my favorite dumpling i tried! - Pork, Shrimp, & Chive: There was a bit too much chive, i think it overpowered the shrimp and pork because all i tasted was chives but it was still good either way - Xiao Long Bao: SO GOOD! definitely recommend getting! The wrap was also thicker then most soup dumplings i've tried (which i liked), so none of our soup dumplings broke! and got everywhere I recommend putting the chili oil on everything! Been here a few times! They have solid Chinese food with big portions. I have gotten the sweet-and-sour chicken, broccoli beef, and Mongolian beef lunch combo plate on separate occasions. Each came with a big scoop of rice and large entree proportions. You could upgrade to chow mein and fried rice for a little bit extra! The sweet-and-sour chicken sauce is a tad bit sweet in my opinion, but the other two were very savory dishes. The Mongolian beef has a nice kick to it and with tender beef cuts. I was excited to try this place as I've heard good things about it. When we went on a Monday evening, there were some good crowds. There was only one waiter serving a full house. I admired his hardworking ethic and he was friendly. Felt bad for him for having to juggle so many tables all by himself. Service is def 5 stars. Food wise, super disappointed. We got 5 items: 1. Chili oil crispy wontons - nothing special, edible, wouldn't order again 2. Green beans - crunchy (not overcooked) and flavorful, a little on the salty side 3. Xiao long bao - overcooked, overcrowded in steaming basket, meat did not taste fresh, had an after taste, and was not given proper utensil for it. We had chopsticks and forks, so the soup spilled everywhere xD 4. Sesame chicken combo plate - actually the best item that we ordered. Which was delicious, as well as the chow mein. The fried rice was on the harder side. It had good flavor 5. Beef roll - flavor was good. Oddly enough, they put pickles in it (like the ones you put in a burger). I've been meaning to try out hidden dumpling house ever since I heard about their midtown location taking over one of my favorite sushi spots (rip midtown sushi) It's a very dainty little restaurant in a hidden area, there's minimal seating so it's best for smaller parties. We were seated and given our waters quickly, there are plenty of dishes to choose from which makes it hard for an indecisive person like me... We ordered the hot & sour soup, honey walnut shrimp, cream cheese wontons, and xiao long bao. Our first three orders came out fairly quickly and piping hot. However, I think one of the chefs forgot to make our dumplings, which took the longest. We didn't receive them until around the end since everything was mostly eaten by then. It was unfortunate since we weren't really craving the dumplings anymore and were quite full. We still ate it, but it would've been better if we had all the dishes together. Since it's such a small restaurant, they're pretty short-staffed since they have to pump out their to-go orders at the same time. We were starvinggggg for lunch during the work day, so my best friend and I decided to feast. We ordered just about everything and were pretty satisfied! My mango ice blend was just that, a mango smoothie with boba. Lol it's pretty pricey if you're comparing it to a boba shop though, the drink itself was $5.50 and then you add boba for $0.75. Because our eyes were bigger than our stomached, we ate family style for two. LOL Garlic Green Beans - chef's kiss. Such a simple dish, but so delicious. It was packed with lots of flavor and I loved that they stir fry onions and jalapeños with the beans. The portion was also veryyyyyy generous, especially if you're comparing it to other Chinese restaurants. Sesame Chicken - very good. Sauce was sweet and chicken was crunchy. Mongolian Beef - our favorite! It was actually spicy! They also mixed lots of veggies in, which is typical, but the meat portion was plentiful as well. Veggie Chow Mein - surprisingly tasty! The sauce was really yummy. Spicy Wontons - the wontons itself were pretty bland. Tasted the filling and it didn't taste like anything, there wasn't even salt. The chili sauce they serve with it is more like a vinegar. Xia Long Bao - the soup itself was yummy, but nothing super special. Especially since the chili oil on the table wasn't flavorful, I finished each dumpling wishing it would've tasted better. We really enjoyed our meal, especially since all the entrees were actually really delicious. Unlike most Chinese restaurants, the food was actually flavorful and portions were more than generous. It was a bit disappointing that both of our least favorite dishes were the dumplings, considering it's in the name... Prices are a little higher as well. We paid $100 for 6 dishes and 2 drinks. If you're comparing it to Red Chopsticks or Happy Garden, then yeah it's expensive. But we felt it was really worth it. Portions are large, food was actually good and didn't leave us groggy. The beef soup here is not traditional, but more tomato based and sour, so we tried the spare rib soup instead. That soup came with multiple pork ribs and the broth tasted delicious and more like a traditional Chinese soup. We also tried a combo plate, with General Tsao chicken. You can order it lunch (rice only) or dinner style (with fried rice, chow mein, and egg roll) even during lunch. The dinner plate was huge, enough to split between two people. The chicken was nicely battered and crunchy but the sauce wasn't my favorite. I also wasn't impressed by the egg roll and wished the chow mein came with veggies. The fried rice was probably my favorite thing on the plate. If I came back I would skip the combo plate but probably try the dumplings and get the rib soup again. read more

New restaurant in Elk Grove! Saw the sign a few days ago and decided to visit with a quick trip with the lovely wife. The place is definitely on a smaller location but still didn't feel cramped. I really like the layout and the outdoor seating. I wasn't sure if it was a casual or restaurant but the owner (who I believe is Danni) was quick to greet us and have us to our seat. The staff was really great and Danni was running a busy restaurant while still being friendly and personable with everyone. They had quite a few food options so we opted to a pick a couple of items. One thing I didn't realize was the big portions! I wasn't sure how big the plates were going to be but really was blown away by how much food they brought us. Service was also quick and we had all our food was tasty! Really enjoyed the chow fun and beef and broccoli but didn't really have any issues with the other food. These items just happened to stand out more than I expected. Definitely a great place to visit with family! read more

The best garlic eggplant in the Sacramento area, hands down. I loooove eggplant and Hidden Dumpling House does it right. The outside is fried crispy and the inside is tender but not mushy. The sauce is perfectly sweet and spicy. I do wish that they served it as a combo plate with rice like their meat dishes, but it was good by itself too. The portion was also very generous. It was enough for 4 meals lol. The special beef noodle soup was delicious also. I was hesitant to get it because there wasn't a description of what the flavor was and the waiter couldn't answer either, but it ended up tasting good. It's a tomato based soup with carrots, thick noodles, and beef. The XLB were ok, but not soupy enough and the skin was too thick. I wouldn't reorder. Overall, tasty Chinese food. Walked in after going to the theater, the restaurant is seated in the middle of a good sized complex. Great food for a nice rainy evening, the value for the food can't be beaten at this place. We took a drive to elk grove from Lodi. We have a Chinese spot in Lodi we love but the quality of this food exceeds the place we go to. Omg. So good very fresh and very flavorful. I love dumplings so I was super excited to find out about this spot! I ordered: Xiao long bao - I was a bit disappointed with the lack of soup and meat filling inside it. It's a difficult dumpling to make and usually when places get it wrong its either too much meat and not enough soup or vice versa. This dumpling was lacking in both. I would bite into it and there would be a little bit of soup and the meat filling becomes disintegrated mush. I do appreciate the amount of ginger they give for the dipping sauce though. Chicken cilantro cabbage dumplings - Best dumpling I've had from this spot. Well filled and folded and none of the flavors were over bearing. Great balance between the chicken and cilantro. Pork chive shrimp dumplings - Decently wrapped and filled but is a bit on the salty side for my taste. I would opt out of using any or use very little of the vinegar dipping sauce as it can get overly salty quite easily. Taro ice blended w/ boba - I love the artificial taro flavor so this totally hit the spot and the boba was nice and chewy and fresh. Loved it, especially with the current heat. I actually think the food is okay. It's rare to see a dumpling house so it's certainly a treat. I still finished my food so it wasn't inedible. If I were to come back I would love to try their entrees because they looked amazing just observing them at the other tables. My main issue with my experience was actually the service. I'm not one to nitpick as I've worked in the industry before but I felt that there were quite a few micro-aggressions. Over the course of my meal it was apparent there was preferential treatment. To be brief, relative to other tables, waiters were not attentive to us at all, checking in with all other tables aside from us. My partner and I felt neglected as we often had to fight for waiters attention to get basic things like utensils. Even when we got utensils we didn't get any chopsticks like the other tables. So again, I had to fight for the waiters attention and even when I got the chopsticks they were to go chop sticks instead of the regular ones the other tables got. This is just a few out of the other things that happened. Isolated, they may seem like simple mistakes but all together they really add up and made me question why we were being treated differently. It made me really sad because I was really excited to eat here but I don't feel comfortable and unfortunately I don't think I'll come back. read more
