Went to the hideaway grille last night for dinner for the first time and SO happy I did. It was my boyfriends 40th birthday and he wanted to go somewhere he could get clams and a steak dinner. We had never been to hideaway grille and I saw they had clams pictured on other reviews but not on their menu. I called and made reservations, and also asked about the clam situation. I was advised they do them as a special during the summer, that's why they weren't on the menu, but they were running out of them. The person I spoke with then told me the had about 3 dozen left and they would save a dozen for me. I was so appreciative because most places you go they would tell you first come first serve and when they're gone, they're gone. It was so nice of them. Especially since they weren't even running the special. We arrived and were seated promptly. It was not busy inside at all. We ordered crab cakes and the clams to start. The crab cakes were delicious and made with real crab. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his clams. For entrees I ordered the chicken brandel, which I was skeptical about as I read previous reviews stating it was bland, however I'm here to tell you mine definitely was not. It was delicious in my opinion. My boyfriend got the blue cheese walnut crusted filet with a seafood bisque and our guests got the halibut and risotto special with a seafood bisque and the bone in pork chop with a Cesar salad and added a lobster tail. Everyone was SO happy with their meal. This may have been my first time visiting but it will most definitely not be the last! So happy to have found this hidden gem! read more

My wife and I had dinner there tonight. She ordered the filet and thought it was pretty good. I ordered the prime rib. It was very tough and difficult to cut and chew. I gave up on it after about 1/3 of the meal. Our waitress forgot to bring our bread and we had to ask for it. The coconut shrimp as an appetizer was very good. I think our meal was over priced for the value of the meal. For a few more dollars we could have eaten at Russells in Williamsville. read more

Just went for dinner, food was mediocre at best. The artichoke appetizer was ok, the white sauce that was on top was thick and kind of bland. Salads were good but both fish dinners were over cooked. One was broiled and the other fried. Our server was good however we didn't even eat the one dinner and she didn't offer to take it off the bill or offer us something else. This is a nice local restaurant in North Tonawanda. There's a huge square bar in one area that's great and well managed. You can sit at the bar or at one of the tables near the bar. We happily sat at the bar for a while. They have a solid selection of bottles, so you are bound to find a spirit type and brand you like. Then there is the resto area. Tables of all sizes and they can be moved to accommodate larger parties. The menu is varied and will likely have something for everyone. This is a nice place with a great price point for a reasonable meal. The ambiance is nice, the food good and the service friendly. They have a coat room for the winter coats, always a nice touch. One year anniversary date night with my boyfriend. We both have never been here before so it was our first experience together. We were not disappointed. Our server Samantha was phenomenal. She answered all my questions and provided great service. We started off with some drinks and appetizers. Coconut shrimp with piña colada sauce and the stuffed mushrooms were our choices. The shrimp was amazing. They were large quality shrimp with a nice crunchy coconut breading. The mushrooms had a nice bacon stuffing like filling. I am not a mushroom lover but I tried these and they were so good. I ordered the chicken cordon bleu with a sweet potato covered in a honey walnut glaze. Everything was beyond my expectations. My boyfriend ordered a rib eye steak with mashed potatoes. I had a bite and it literally melted in my mouth. The steak had a nice char grilled taste to it. Nice time we go I will be ordering a steak. The Hideaway is an incredible restaurant that feels so homey and welcoming, with a friendly staff working extremely hard to make your experience as good as possible. Their food is absolutely delicious and their cocktails are beautiful, fun and yummy - I recommend trying their old fashioned. I was here for lunch on a Saturday. We ordered beer battered fish & a Reuben sandwich. Service was good, however, I think that our young waitress provided incorrect information. Beer battered fish n' chips (special): Chips were excellent. However, the fish was lacking in taste. Also, the waitress told us that it was Haddock when she took our order. However, it tasted like catfish. This was confirmed when we overheard another waitress telling other customers that it was indeed Catfish. Reuben sandwich: Good portion. However, the sauce over powered the meat. Hence, the food was a disappointment. Service was average, plus the mis-information. Price was reasonable for the types and portion of food, but not worth it for the preparation, as outlined above. This place is way bigger inside than it looks on the outside. We were seated right away and got our drinks ordered while we looked over the menu. They have an extensive menu with a little bit of everything. The roll they brought while we were waiting were soft and tasty. We decided on the stuffed mushroom and the stuffed hot peppers. The mushrooms were flavorful and lots of bacon. The stuffed peppers were huge and had a kick to them. I have never had them with Gorgonzola cheese before and it was a nice change that helped with the heat and they were delicious. The french onion soup was steaming hot so I had to wait a bit to eat that. After we filled up on all of that the meals came out. The coconut shrimp were huge and there was 7 of them.I could hardly finish The Cajun catfish wasn't very spicy so my husband wasn't a fan of that. There was no room left for dessert. The waiter made sure we had everything we needed and he was knowledgeable about the menu and the drinks. We will be back to get more stuffed peppers and whatever else sounds good. read more

I have fallen in absolute love with this place! I went here on a lunch break with some coworkers because they had an awesome free glass of wine check-in promotion going on. The waitress we had was named Emily, she was quite possibly the best waitress I have ever had! She was extremely friendly and I could tell she went above and beyond for great customer service with all of her tables. She was well organized and efficient. Going the extra mile is the way to my heart. On top of the service, the entire venue was very clean and well kept. Tastefully decorated. Now the important part: food. Even better than the service! I had the veggie panini which was made to perfection. It could've used a few more veggies on it but the flavors all blended excellently and the bread was toasted perfectly, crispy but not burnt and stale. From my experiences with different restaurants, it seems hard not to turn the panini bread into an chewable knife, so bravo at perfecting the dish! I loved it. I can't recall what my coworkers had but they too were equally satisfied with their experience. And for the best part about this restaurant: popcorn! I'm addicted so this made my day. Free glass of wine when you check in! I have been here 3 times and I have gotten free wine each time with their Yelp offer. Although this deal is awesome, it is not what keeps me coming back....The stuffed pepper soup is what makes my mouth water and keeps me coming for more. Before I get everyone excited, they don't offer the stuffed pepper soup very often so it's a gamble but everything in the restaurant is incredible. I have had nothing but fantastic dishes, I am especially partial to the Chicken Francaise. Each dinner is served with a choice of potato and soup or salad. The server also brings out fresh olive bread (french bread upon request) and cornbread. There is home made honey butter, strawberry butter, and olive oil to accompany the bread. I am always so stuffed after I finish my soup and bread that I end up taking my meal to go! This restaurant is casual yet classy. I would come here for a birthday or a nice family dinner. The average price of a dinner is $20 but well worth it. Reservations are definitely necessary on the weekend because I have seen people get turned away at the door when they didn't call ahead. Went here with the family and was very satisfied. I started with the charcuterie board special and it was very filling. Some smoked meats, fruits, great flavorful cheeses, breads and crackers. I had a nice fresh side salad with dressing, nothing fancy but all crispy fresh veggies. I also had the French onion soup (broth was very good) and the Ahi tuna. The Ahi tuna was very good. Fresh and perfectly prepared. A touch of wasabi and soy sauce and I was smiling. Someone in our party ordered the fish fry and it was very good. Crispy on the outside and very tender on the inside. Server was very friendly and knowledgable and the food came out in a timely manner. They have renovated and the restaurant looks great. Clean, cozy and a comfortable environment. Ample off street parking and easy to get to. I haven't tried it myself but I hear the spinich-artichoke dip is really good. I will definately return to the Hideaway Grille. I have been going here regularly for a couple years now and it's always a meal I'm looking forward to. My favorite dish is the 1/2 rack of ribs with Coconut Shrimp. Nothing beats Ed's BBQ sauce! I also enjoy the flatbread pizza from the bar menu and kobe beef hamburger. The bar regularly serves cocktail specials (I highly recommend any margarita or mule cocktail). Friends had the salmon of the day and broiled scallops. Both sang their praises. I came here for lunch a few weeks back and I was pretty impressed with the menu that they had for lunch. There was a wide verity to pick from and everything was unique. Now when I came here I was not really hungry so all I got was the french onion soup but it was most definitely one of the best that I have had and I usually get french onion soup when ever it is on the menu some where. Just from this one experience the wait staff was great and the atmosphere was comfortable and warm. The two people I came with had wings and absolutely loved them. Our waiting estimated time was about 45 minutes, what to be true was less than that. So, if you are planning to go to this restaurant arrive around 5:30pm/6:00pm because the waiting area is very small and sometime can be too crowded. Plus the parking lot is not enough for the restaurant and you need to find some place on the street to stop your car. The waitress service was fantastic and the food did not take so much time to arrive to us. She was a very friendly, nice person and happy. And for what I noticed, not only her but the staff seems happy too. It is a very warm place and I can say unique in Buffalo, because I think I didn't find yet a place with waiter staff like this here yet. Today because I was carving for a meat, I tried the 20oz Bone-in Rib eye. Overall, I don't have anything to complain about the food. It was delicious! I could not find negative points about it. Went to Hideaway Grille today for the first time. First, I have to say their staff is extremely friendly. Our waitress/bartender remembered my name right off the bat and made conversation throughout our whole meal which was nice. They also put up with us for the 2 1/2 hours that we were there. The food was pretty good and it came quickly. I ordered half a caesar salad and a bowl of their cream of broccoli and cauliflower soup. The half salad was still pretty big and it was delicious. The soup was just okay. Kind of bland for what I was expecting. I had to add a lot of pepper and salt and it was still only mediocre. I hear that the chicken spetzel soup is awesome. I wish I would have just gotten a whole salad because it was that good. My boyfriend, his dad, and a guy I just met named Rudy all got the stuffed mushrooms and clams casino for appetizers. For someone that doesn't like mushrooms, I actually enjoyed them. I really dislike clams but I tried the clams casino anyway and I wasn't a fan at all, but everyone else loved them so I guess I'm just biased. Other than that, the atmosphere was great. It's a nice looking, spacious place. We sat at the bar, where they have flat screen tvs and quick draw. I think we won a total of $5. Overall, a good experience. UPDATE! Today I visited the Hideaway again, and I tried the french fries. They are delicious and crispy. Hideaway is definitely a diamond in the rough of North Tonawanda. My Husband and I went about a year ago and both had a great experience so we decided to revisit last weekend! I called ahead since it was a Friday evening and the chances of a reservation being available are usually slim to none but we were happy to hear the hostess say they had plenty of openings. We were seated promptly upon arrival and placed an order for the stuffed banana peppers, a favorite appetizer of both parties. They were perfection, I highly recommend ordering these! For my entree I went with the sesame crusted tuna and Mike went with a filet mignon, oscar style. My tuna was cooked to perfection and came with a side of wasabi and soy (two of my favorite condiments). Mike didn't talk much while eating his steak, which typically means he is thoroughly enjoying it. When he came up from air, he confirmed that his steak was indeed delicious. The only critiques I have for hideaway is their lighting, its a little dim in there but not dim in a romantic way, dim in like a sleepy way. Also, the decor could probably use a little spruce-ing up. I do believe some of the newer restaurants in North Tonawanda (Remington, Webster Bistro, Smoke on the Water) are pulling some business away from Hideaway but I would hate to see such an awesome place fall by the wayside so make sure to consider it next time you are in the area, you won't regret it! read more

We TRIED to have a Fish Fy at this dive last night. After waiting 30 minutes for a table, with our 1 year old and 4 year old growing anxious, we finally saw a small 4top in the bar open up. We asked a waitress if it was ok to bring the kids in the bar. TO SIT AT THE TABLE and she said "Sure, no problem." So we did. As a side note, there were plenty of tables open in the restaurant, but they weren't seating people at those and our ACTUAL wait time would have been over 60 minutes for a table, the hostess had no idea apparently how to estimate real wait time. Kind of a big deal if you have no place for your customers to wait. As soon as we sat down a waiter came over and didn't say "Hello: or "Welcome" he barks out "Do you have a reservation?" Our friend answered "We have our name in with the hostess." Waiter spins on his heel and walks away. So that was odd. A few minutes later the waiter is back with his manager, and we are rudely accosted by the Bar Manager, Adam. He marches up to the table and barks "What name is this table under?" I gave him our last night and he snarls back "So you are trying to tell me YOU have this table reserved? I know you are lying." UM WHAT????? You need to reserve a table at this dive bar? (Maybe a SIGN would be helpful to let your patrons know this!) "Yes, Adam, I live for making up stories to tell to 25 year old bar managers in run down restaurants in Tonawanada." is what I wanted to reply with, but I didn't. After being screamed at by the manager for doing nothing other than waiting for our table and trying to give them money by ordering a drink in the bar before we ate, we left. Adam was aware we were offended and mad, but didn't offer an apology at all. Clearly the guy has ZERO idea how to manage a restaurant, interact with people, or provide value for the owners of this restaurant. I doubt we will try again, and here is your warning to proceed with caution. If you go, for God's sake don't bring your kids. Part of the time we were waiting, we went and stood back by the restrooms in the hallway (Did I mention this is not lobby to wait in?) and we were yelled at by another very rude employee for our kids standing there quietly. It was my first time coming to this place this past Saturday, even though it has been on my list of places to try, with a couple of friends. We ordered two Filets (one medium and one well) with seasonal veggies and sweet potato, two french onion soups, seafood bisque, 10-ounce prime rib medium with seasonal veggies, and a virgin strawberry Margherita for the pregnant woman in the group. Everything was so good that we are everything with zero leftovers. My seafood bisque was very flavorful. The prime rib was very tender and flavorful, the veggies (zucchini, summer squash, and red onions) were cooked perfectly and not mushy like they can get when overcooked. The server was so attentive and answered every question we had, he had no problems making a virgin Margherita for our pregnant friend and made sure she liked it before leaving the table. The whole restaurant did pretty well with the COVID requirements, staff wearing masks, patrons required to wear masks upon entering, hand sanitizer, and so on. The only thing I did notice we're the tables being a little close together still and not six feet apart, which made me a little nervous. Overall, I will be returning and suggesting this restaurant. One of my favorite restuarants; wait staff is wonderful and the food is without question, some of the BEST! Appetizers like artichokes francaise, BBQ bacon wrapped shimp, cocconut shrimp, and stuffed banana peppers are such a super way to start your meal. Home-made dressing can be found on the large dinner salads. They serve a variety of chicken dinners like chicken francaise, chicken alaska (with stuffed crab meat, etc.) and so many others, along with a variety of fish and pastas. Saturday offers their special Prime Rib dinners which can be ordered with a wonderful stuffed sweet potato, or German potatoes, or baked and green beans almandine or baked beans. They also have a specialty bread basket on Saturday with home-made corn bread, olive focasio bread, rolls, etc. And desserts! : tuxedo mousse cake (my favorite!), creme brule, Girandelli chocolate lava cake, pies, etc. My only comment is: PLEASE bring back the pistacio breaded chicken with your special dijon sauce!!! read more

Why have I not known about this restaurant ?!!!?! The food was absolutely amazing. Jake and I split the crab cakes- 2 thumbs up ( and mind you I AM a seafood person ); I had the French onion soup - very good, and not salty like a lot of French onion soups; and I got the basil pesto pasta with shrimp which was very good. They could have added more artichokes though- they were slivers and you couldn't even tell they were in the pasta unless you were looking (loooovvveee me some artichokes ). No real complaints on the food. My two complaints : 1- our table set up was G H E T T OOOO. There was 15 of us (mind you we had reservations for a while ), and they pushed two huge circle tables together... It was awkward. I mean if we are doing ghetto set ups, one big round table and a square table would've been better.. Whatever we don't complain it's not a big deal. 2- service was not the greatest . We had two waitress and they were just.. Umm...spacey and not all there ? But they were nice. Idk I can't think of a great description right now. They messed up 3 drink orders. They didn't ask if we wanted more drinks - they kept up on water which is a bonus , but if we wanted more of any other beverage we had to flag them down .. Even if our empty glass was sitting there. Attended a fundraiser trivia event here. First off, they were woefully unprepared for how many people were attending. 16 teams were crammed into the bar and a smaller seating area, where an entire dog and pony show was made out of moving tables and telling those participating that they were just 'going to have to wait'. I was in a party of 6 and we took spots at the bar, which was fine, so we didn't take up a table when one eventually opened up. There was one bartender on, who tried to keep up with everything. Confused by the commotion (I would've been, too) but very sweet. The trivia game, itself, was near impossible to hear as a group at the bar was loudly discussing completely inappropriate and vulgar topics. This was a group of older mixed company, seated with a staff member from the establishment. They were completely dismissive of the fact that an event was going on and that the room was being addressed as a whole. There is no place for the topics they were discussing, but I was appalled that the staff member with the group didn't address this event being chosen as one woman's forum to discuss to announce how when a "patient (expletive) I don't like it so I smear it on their pillow case". Elder abuse. Cool topic. There was an exchange where they were asked by another patron to please try to stop SCREAMING so others could participate in the game. Again, this group was rude and the staff member sat there. She even went to so far as to "remind" the groups unable to hear that "this is a bar", and intentionally walking into the chairs of the other patrons. The ONLY positive I can give this place was that the food seemed OK. That doesn't make up for an uncomfortable atmosphere and staff that clearly would rather stroke the egos the older regulars than welcome in new comers willing to spend their money and spread the word. read more

My parents swear by this place so I figured I'd give it a try with my wife. It's a little cramped inside but the atmosphere is pretty cool. You wouldn't guess that by the location/ look of the outside. Bread was a good start to the meal. Ordered the prime. Very juicy and tender. My wife got the same and agrees.
