Stopped here on our night out to get a couple of drinks after looking up some popular bars in the area. We arrived and were seated at the bar. The bar itself and view from the top was very pretty, and they had live music which was a nice touch, but the staff seemed on edge and discontent. It seemed like there was some kind of interpersonal conflict between the staff and it made the whole experience unpleasant. The drinks were very well crafted and the menu had a lot of interesting options - though, when I requested my first drink option, I was told they were no longer making that drink. Chose this restaurant to treat my friends to on our trip. I was a bit disappointed because I thought we'd have a better view of the sunset from the rooftop restaurant. However, it is obstructed by buildings on all sides because it is not a tall building itself. However, this was made up for with the cute set up- full of plants and trees, lively environment, live music, great service, and delicious food and drinks. One of my favorites was the braised short rib. It was cooked to perfection. I loved the kabocha base. It tasted like the perfect mashed potatoes! The mango panna cotta was divine! The texture and flavors were so good. I really enjoyed the touches on it: the shaved ice and the caramelized pineapple. It was also very pretty! Overall, I would recommend this spot. read more

I needed a quick late afternoon snack, so I stopped here. The mini tacos and the Juneshine Hard Kombucha Peachy Punch hit the spot! Firstly, the tacos were the cutest little tacos I have ever had. They were so small yet packed a punch and kept me full! The ahi pieces were huge and tasty. Secondly, the peachy punch added sweetness to the slightly spicy tacos. The bartenders - Taylor, Daniel, and Jeremy - gave me a glass for the drink (since it came in a can) and kept checking on me. We came to the Hideout for a girls night out in/near Waikiki - it's great that they take reservations. We really enjoyed sitting out on the "rooftop" area. Drinks were solid - I would easily come back for the Kuhio Bowl, which had kalua pork, grilled prawns and ahi poke. So good. My friends enjoyed the kalbi bowl and catch of the day, too. Portions are good, and everything was delicious. Would definitely come back for a date night or girls night out - it's kind of nice, too that's it's a bit removed from the main Waikiki stretch, so it's more chill. read more

The Mai tai is in the pricy end for Oahu, and it's pretty basic. It's was fine but not my favorite, too sweet, not tart, maybe it was the pineapple juice which is not typical. It's okay at the happy hour price. The HH menu is limited, okay on food with some breadth, just a Mai tai for cocktails, a few basic beers and some liquors. For early happy hour there was one busy bartender but it worked okay. I saw someone else's burger and it looked okay; the side of fries was small but smelled good and is okay as a side to the burger. Probably three stars for food and drink taste and value, four or five for setting, especially given that there is live music--I saw it in reviews and they were setting up the stage when I was there for early HH. read more

It wasn't as good as I thought it would have been.There could have been more flavor to it and a bit sauce so it can highlight the noodles more. Stopped by for a few drinks and some delicious bites. Came by on Saturday, it wasn't super busy and decided to just go to the bar with a friend. They had the amazing DJ JEM in the house! I really enjoyed the beverages, all made by James. He was very knowledgeable and gave honest opinions on the selections I inquired about. I had ran across a Laylow feed on instagram. Since I was in the area on vacation I thought why not check it out. I visited the Laylow during happy hour 3:30-5:30 pm. It's a really nice ambiance (bar area , outside seating , nice lounge (open area) overlooking Kūhiō Ave and The international market place . I love the vibe at the hideout. Whether for breakfast, drinks, or a light snack. The staff are awesome. And the setting definitely lives up to the name. A little semi - outdoor hideout / oasis amidst the city crowds and noise. We had breakfast here most mornings. And drinks on a couple occasions. We were excited to try this place. We were looking for somewhere rooftop. It is rooftop, however, no true good "view" as it's only a few floors up and not on the beach--that's ok. We walked up hoping to get a seat, and there was only bar or fire pit area available. All tables were saved for reservations. I didn't love the little corner we were sat in--felt like we were kind of off and separated from the rest of the restaurant. The little tables they had in that area were not really suitable for ordering food, either. Super small and low. We ordered the egg rolls and poke tacos for appetizers. Both were good. The egg rolls definitely needed the pineapple sauce served with it. We split a burger for dinner and that was good--a little plain, but good. Drinks were enjoyable. I think next time we go, we'll have to make a reservation so we can be more in the restaurant area. I think that would've made a big difference on overall experience. read more

Nostalgic for Da Big Kahuna days, I made it a point to stop in to see what's become of the location. Glad I did! Our food was beyond expectations. Everything seasoned and cooked perfectly. I tried the Laylow Breakfast. It had whole roasted baby potatoes, Portuguese sausage, poached eggs and a purple taro English muffin with a side of mango jam. Amazing. My husband had the ahi tacos which he really enjoyed, and our toddler had the keiki pancake that was absolutely gigantic. They use a buckwheat batter that is unique, tender, and scented with vanilla. I couldn't help but steal a few bites and with the macadamia nut butter and maple syrup it was simply divine. I didn't care for the cocktail called "Waking up in Waikiki". It tasted like watered down coffee mixed with pineapple juice, which was unappealing to me. I did enjoy a Nectar Hard Seltzer in Lychee. It was very light and refreshing, and not very strong. Perfect day drink. Our server Davie was very kind, and cool. Definitely a cute spot and I would like to come back in the future. The cocktails are TOP-Tier! The service/experience - much less so. This is a cool bar with cool views that surely you will see walking around Waikiki. The torches make it so that you can see the hidden "hideout" from the street, begging the question of how hidden it is. Don't get me wrong, the drinks are very very good, some of the best cocktails you'll find in Oahu - but getting to that point is where there is the struggle. We have been here three times now. Each time the reservation was booked several weeks to a month+ out. Each time, we have then questioned why we bothered making a reservation at all. One of the times, we showed up 15 minutes before our reservation, after receiving a text confirming. When we arrived at the hostess, again 15 minutes early, we were then told to take a seat and just wait a bit, we waited a good thirty minutes, then went back to check in again, and were told that it would be another hour, maybe more. It was about 90 minutes until we final got notice of our spot. The most recent time, we booked our reservation before even booking our flight (over a month out). We arrive timely. This time we didn't have to wait long! Hooray! And then the two of us are sat around the firepit that felt more like a waiting area - or something better suited for an entire bachelorette party instead of just two people. (The fire pit has sits for about 20+ people, and we were by ourselves). Again, the drinks were good. It just felt very strange to be tucked away in a massive area, meant for large groups, all by ourselves. The service once we got sat was fine. One would think that when other normal tables opened up, maybe there would be an offer/option to move to a proper table/sitting area. That did not happen. Strange is the best way to describe it, and multiple strange times just leaves me feeling absent a desire to go back. 5 stars on cocktails. 1 star on reservation/seating system. read more

Bury me at the Hideout! I was so excited to stay at the Laylow when I found out they had the cutest bar in Waikiki (imo)! A short escalator ride upstairs (or elevator ride downstairs if you're staying at the hotel) and you are transported off the busy streets of Waikiki and into a literal oasis of a bar. We stopped by the Hideout multiple times during our 5 night stay and had great experiences every time. Not only were the food and drinks great, the staff were so kind and helpful! We especially enjoyed the mai tais, poke tacos, and hideout fries. FYI it's recommended you make a reservation or if you don't mind chancing it at the bar, that's open seating. Hideout is a staple when visiting for a staycation (or any vacation that involves drinking). The ambiance at night is perfect and the live music is icing on the cake! I've come here once before a year ago and I really loved the cocktails so I decided to make it a point to return to see their new offerings. This time I tried the mama-san as well the maitai. Both were really solid cocktails, but my favorite would have to be the mama-san. I found that the pandan and lilikoi flavors complemented each other perfectly and it was a very well-balanced tropical, fruity cocktail. It was a little reminiscent of a pornstar martini but not as sweet (also minus the champagne) I also had a few sips of their espresso martini which was also very good! A very distinct coffee flavor with a hint of nuttiness from the macadamia foam. This espresso martini is also a little on the sweeter side. I browsed the menu and they had some amazing offerings for bites. Unfortunately I had already eaten dinner and only have enough space in my stomach for alcohol I will make it a point to try the food the next time I return! My only qualm is that service can be a little spotty sometimes. My first experience with service was excellent but this second time around was a little less than satisfactory. I found that during the beginning of our time seated there, we were touched upon more frequently versus towards the end where it took us awhile to flag down our waiter.
