Baked rice: smothered with a layer of sauce and cheese (you would think is a good thing?) until you see the raw vegetables mixed in with it. If you get seated by the wall, know that you'll have to interrupt the table next to you to get out. Additionally, when the table next to us left and a new customer walked in, she was seated to THAT table right away (no one came to even wipe the seats or table) with the rice crumbs and milk tea splatters left on that table! I usually come to High Five for their set meals (常餐), but this time I finally got up early enough for their breakfast sets lol. The breakfast is cheaper but also comes in a smaller portion, which I think it's still enough. Each noodle set comes with eggs of your choice, butter toast and hot drink. Their Hong Kong style milk tea and iced lemon tea taste super authentic, exactly like what I grew up having in HK. Tipping is also appreciated but not required! ＊Satay Beef over Vermicelli 沙嗲牛肉米粉 ** ＊Spiced Minced Pork over Noodle 五香肉丁公仔麵 ** ＊Macaroni Noodle Soup with Ham 火腿通粉 They make the 五香肉丁 in house, so it's already miles better than the canned ones. And I get their satay beef every time because this is the BEST I've had in NYC! I've been let down by so many spots, but this one tastes exactly like the kind I grew up with. French Toast: 3/5 not the worst but not the best. Instead of thick toast it's three toasts put together. It looks it would've been crispy but unfortunately soggy. Also the oil they use for it seems to be peanut oil or at least has an oily nutty after taste after you eat the French toast and has the taste that the oil is due for a change. Came here after coming back from HK. We got here around 5:55PM, good amount of time before they closed at 7pm. We got seated as it wasn't busy and got to ordering! We got the mixed sauce rice rolls with fish balls, curry pork cutlet rice, imitation shark fin soup, and the French toast. The cutlet was pretty good, nice flavor and kick for a cold night. The fresh toast looked crispy, but was actually quite soggy with ok flavor. The soup was too thick, but good taste. The food was generally ok but we were turned off by the experience there. Before we got seated, we asked if they were still open to not intrude on them closing and they assured us they were. As we were ordering and eating, there were staff cleaning up and mopping the floor. Cleaning up made us felt rushed as if we were holding them from leaving, and mopping the floor near us with a bleach product was not the best in terms of scent mixed with food. Overall a 3.75/5. Let's start with the good. The noodle soup where you can choose your own soup base was quite delicious and jam packed with a generous portion of ingredients! My wife also really liked the sharkfin soup, which she said was more flavorful than the one from Kowloon. The seating was spacious and comfortable, and the interior design was reflective of your typical cha chan tang. Now onto the not so great. The corned beef egg sandwich had plenty of egg but very little corned beef, which basically made it taste like just an egg sandwich unfortunately. The satay beef was also not that great and lacked the nutty and creaminess that classic satay beef often has, which was the most disappointing for me for that dish was what I looked forward to the most. The red bean ice drink was quite heavy on the ice and since the red bean wasn't blended, most of the ice trapped the red bean and made the drink less than average. The staff weren't that sociable and seemed to keep to themselves in the back area. Water is self-served so there's really minimal interaction with staff, but their lack of smile just made the atmosphere less enjoyable than it could have been. Overall I believe High Five has potential of being another good HK style cha chan tang in Brooklyn, so I hope they can continue to improve certain selections while maintaining consistency on the items that they are doing so well in. After my recent trip to Hong Kong, I was really missing the food and came in with high hopes. Unfortunately, the food ended up being just average and the atmosphere made the overall experience disappointing. We ordered the steamed rice noodles with fish balls, imitation shark fin soup, French toast, and the fried pork cutlet with curry sauce. Imitation shark fin soup 3/5 - The flavor was good, but it was much thicker than expected. French toast 2/5 - It looked like it would be crispy on the outside, but it turned out soft and slightly soggy. Fried pork cutlet with curry sauce 3.5/5 - The pork was not very crispy and had a very thick starch coating, though the curry sauce itself tasted good. This dish could have been great if the pork was crispier. The meal also came with a Hong Kong milk tea, which was pretty solid. Steamed rice noodles with fish balls 4/5 - My favorite dish of the night. The flavor was great and the fish balls had a nice texture. I just wish the sauce was a bit thicker so it would cling better to the noodles. As for the service, I know tips are optional and everything like utensils and water is self serve so I did not expect much. That said, the staff started cleaning while we were still eating. They close at 7 pm and we arrived at 6 pm, but by 6:05 they were already mopping and moving chairs around us. The strong bleach smell and the rushed feeling really killed my appetite. There's a big TV that's always running news in Cantonese, a self-help water station if you want to call it that, and many diners that zoom in and out. You'll find yourself almost rubbing elbows no matter where you sit unless you're at a booth. It can get a bit tight and you might bump into the other patrons and/or their food. I sincerely wish they have coat hooks considering how cramped spaces can be; we were holding onto our winter coats on our laps while we ate. A quick serviced Hong Kong style cafe that offers comfort food. We ordered their satay beef instant noodle set, pork chop sandwich, baked pork chop rice and baked spaghetti with meat sauce. The satay beef instant noodle was flavorful and legit and had peanut chunks from the peanut butter. However, the sunny side egg still had some uncooked egg whites and one of the yolk was broken. Their pork chop sandwich was my favorite. The pork chop was marinated well and tasty. It was also crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The bun, although a little burnt, was nicely toasted in which the outside was crispy yet chewy on the inside while also absorbing all the juice from the pork. I was however disappointed with their baked dishes. The baked spaghetti with meat sauce hardly had any meat in it. The spaghetti was a little over cooked, and the sauce had no depth to it and felt like it was just ketchup mixed with water. The cheese was as also extremely overpowering. The same sauce was used for pork chop rice except it had a little more flavor to it from the veggies and the pork chop, which was also nicely done as I assume it's the same pork chop as the sandwich. Cheese was also overpowering so we ended up scraping them off. We also ordered iced lemon tea and salted lemon 7 up. Their lemon tea tasted legit. The tea flavor was strong and it was wasn't too sweet. Their salted lemon however, was a little weird as the lemon came in slices versus the smaller whole salted brined lemon that were used to. The staffed assured us the lemon is salted but I didn't taste it at all. The restaurant was clean, spacious and comfortable for Hong Kong style cafe standards. Service was quick and the staff were attentive. They do take credit or debit cards but there is a $20 minimum. There is no extra service charge. This Cha Chan Tang place felt fairly new and clean. Casual and spacious, staff was friendly and made some recommendations. I had high expectations for the food but it was alright, very simple comfort food. They have a few Hong Kong style breakfast sets that would be a good deal. The HK milk tea was good. High Five is a fantastic place to grab a quick Hong Kong style breakfast for super cheap. The breakfast set is $6.75, including a hot drink until 11:30 am. EVERY DAY! We got Set B, which came with instant noodle soup with satay beef, scrambled eggs, and bread with butter. The satay beef is nicely seasoned, and instant noodles are cooked to perfect texture. Did I mention that the service is quick? We got our food within 5 minutes. If you're always in a rush or don't have much time in the morning, this is your place. We also tried their HK street style fish shumai (my fav) and curry fish balls. These dishes reminded me of my childhood living in Hong Kong, and both taste amazing. The place was pretty full but they temporarily squeezed us into a table for 2 and moved us to a bigger table when it was available. Daughter ordered from the Set Meal & Hot Drink category and got "C"-Three toppings with a noodle choice, which was Rice Vermicelli with Shredded Pork & Preserved Vegetables and a fried egg. She also opted for Cold Lemon Tea with no sugar. It was her first time eating this and she liked it a lot. Daughter also liked the cold lemon tea, as well. They serve their bkfast menu (before 11:30am) & after 11:30am they serve from their lunch/dinner menu. We ended up missing the bkfast time & ate from their lunch/dinner menu. We ordered to share: 1) french toast, 2) combo A, 3) combo B, 4) combo C, 5) three stuffed treasures appetizer French toast - it was quite delicious! I like how they cut the french toast into cubes so that each bite had so much flavors! I would reorder this. Combo A (we chose macaroni, roast pork, ham omelet with toast & butter, and hk milk tea). The noodle was al dente & the soup was light. The roast pork & ham omelet was standard. The butter on the toast was good. The hk milk tea was good - you add your own sugar (sugar is on the table). Combo B (we chose Satay Beef on Instant noodle, 2 fried eggs and toast w butter & an iced HK lemonade). The satay beef was excellent - well seasoned and tasted delicious! The instant noodle was ok. Soup was standard. The fried eggs standard. The butter on the toast was enjoyable. Loved the iced HK lemonade (comparable to the ones in HK). Combo C (we chose vermicelli noodle with shredded pork & preserved vegs, fried egg, hot HK milk tea). The vermicelli noodles were al dente, soft and delicious. Love the shredded pork & vegetables! The soup was very light tasting. Hot HK milk tea was good. Three sfuffed treasures (stuffed green peppers, eggplant & tofu) - this item was delicious. There was 6 small pieces (2 each) in this appetizer. Cute decor. Comfortable seating. Loved the HK movie showing on the TV. I felt like I was at a HK cha chan tang (diner). A true HK style cha chan tang on 86 street! Came here for the breakfast sets for only 6.75 that end at 11:30am and was excited to see that they added lunch sets for those who cant wake up early enough for the breakfast sets (AKA me). I ordered the satay beef instant noodle set an opted to pay an extra dollar for thick toast. The HK style milk tea that came it was strong and unsweetened. I strongly advise sweetening it up because the creaminess and tea flavor comes through even stronger. Tip is optional, but service is still provided with eatlery, suggestions, and with serving. In true HK fashion, wait staff were friendly but also slightly aggressive. I wish they added a bo lo bao with a slab of butter to their menu, but given that they're new - maybe that'll be an item down the line. Dishes are simple, but most certainly hit the spot. Clean little that opens early for breakfast. Service was good and quick. We were leaving to JFK and had 2 hours to spare so we decided to get breakfast. This place opens at 8am. We got seated right away and ordered the following: Steamed Rice Noodles with House Special Sauce Set Meal B Fried Pork Cutlet Fried with pork chop Luncheon Meat with Scrambled Egg Sandwich Everything was pretty simple and quick. Really can't beat High Five for its HK Breakfast Set value for $7.25. A run to a nearby Chinese bakery will cost me almost as much for breakfast, but it would be less filling and not as tasty. The breakfast C set is really good with the pork & preserved mustard green rice noodle soup, egg sandwich, and hot drink of choice. The noodle soup is generously portioned and the soup is flavorful. I love the egg sandwich here - the toast is perfectly buttered and the scrambled eggs are fluffy. The hot drink is the same size as a small coffee/tea from the bakery, but you can get HK milk tea! High Five also has a really good imitation shark fin soup for $3.50. It's well seasoned, has a good amount of toppings, and doesn't come out like hot goop. Service is super fast during breakfast. It's a bit nostalgic of real HK cafes, where they get you in and out during the breakfast rush. But the staff is actually quite nice if you chat with them. read more

HK style cafe in Bensonhurst 86st area. Place is pretty modern and clean. The seating can be a bit tight though. Food is relatively cheap and can have a decent breakfast here for under $10-15. The service is standard but could be more attentive. Their peanut butter French toast is good. Imitation shark fin soup is okay, but I've had better. Their macaroni breakfast combo is subpar but it's cheap. The baked cheese rice is pretty worth the price. read more

An authentic taste of Hong Kong in the middle of Brooklyn. The breakfast sets are a steal!! $6.75 for a noodle soup + egg and buttered toast + a drink. I got Breakfast B and the satay beef was so flavorful and tender but not as spicy as the one I get at M Star Cafe. Scrambled eggs they prepare it the HK way, aka with butter, making them super fluffy and silky. Milk tea was solid as well but was served lukewarm. Would prefer it a bit hotter. Overall, I feel like a meal here could definitely pass for one at Australia Dairy Company except I only have to walk a couple of blocks from my house instead of traveling half way around the globe haha. In terms of the dining environment, the ambience is clean and modern while still retaining the vibe of a traditional HK cafe. To order, you can scan the QR code on the table and pay upfront at the cashier or order with the cashier directly. It's a no tipping establishment but please do tip them!! It's a family run business and they all work hard taking orders and cleaning tables even though you're supposed to do these yourself. They're still in their soft opening phase but it seems like they've got their act together. Really hope they add more items to their menu once they officially open! read more
