Came down to Oceanside on a whim. The carpet's were being cleaned at my place so I had to vacate for the afternoon. I stopped by here because it's "The Top Gun House" I couldn't miss it. I was helped out in the cafe by a girl named Kira, she was incredibly sweet and helpful. I explained to her that I had certain aversions to some foods and I asked for an item that was not on the menu. She said, "No problem." She took my name and I waited for my order. It's a small gesture, but not many people will take the extra step or two outside of their normal work duties. The desserts were delicious, but Kira's customer service was the icing on the cake. There's a lot of nostalgia to this place because of the Top Gun movie, and there's a lot of cool decor and photos that's on their walls, but that's about it. The pies are pretty good, but also kind of ordinary. Think my favorite photo was the one with Maverick and Charlie by one of the exit doors. Worth a visit just to check off your list. I've been wanting to visit but everytime we're in SD somehow we just couldn't find the time to visit. Until today! On our way home from our mini vacation today was the perfect day to stop by as it's a weekday and there wasn't much/ hardly any traffic we around just past 1030am and found metered parking near by immediately. When we arrived there were no other customers we got to take pictures of and with the house and motorcycle. I'm not much of a pie person the only pie I usually eat is pumpkin but I was open to any other pastries they offered. My husband wanted to try the pies and I ended up ordering my sister some to take back home. We ordered 2 sets of the 3pack. One order all apple pie the other was cherry, apple and a blueberry. I also added a dark chocolate brownie and lemon bar. As my order was ready and called the kind lady said she labeled everything and added some extra. We walked on the boardwalk for a few minutes then walked back to eat our pies at their outside cover patio. Saw that she gave us an extra 4pies!! That was so generous. I decided to give them all a try and oh my... they were all delicious. It was warm, the crust was alittle flakey it had a nice little crunch yet also soft and the crust flavor was SO delicious. Loved that the flavors were not overwhelming sweet! The dark chocolate brownie and the lemon bar were cold and didn't think anything special about it a bit in the sweeter side. Cute spot in Oceanside, CA. Was told it was where Top Gun was filmed so decided to swing by to check it out and pick up some sweets. The Apple Pie was fairly small but I enjoyed it with my hot cup of coffee. Service was workers didn't really talk to the guest or acknowledge them (guest just looked at each other and was wondering when they would get help). Kind of weird. They will eventually will come up to you and take your order. I didn't come here for the service though. I love the movie Top Gun and really just wanted to check out the house and support a local business while I was there. For someone that loves the Movie Top Gun - definitely recommend checking it out. Consider walking in for a cup of coffee then taking a walk along Pacific Street. read more

Staff was nice but seemed a bit distracted by their phones. The 3 pack pies were hot and fresh, great flavor, and not too sweet of fillings. The lemon tart was very nice and creamy. This place is interesting because the history behind it. It was a historic house in Oceanside prior to the movie Top Gun. It was used as Kelly McGillis' house in the movie. It features Maverick's motorcycle up front. It feels a bit like the house in "Up", a tiny old house surrounded by buildings. The food is just ok. The brownie tastes like it came out of a box mix, the high pie feels like a McDonald's apple pie and the caramel apple, while delicious, there was nothing special about it. Come here for the atmosphere and the great view of Oceanside Pier. read more

It's the Top Gun house! That's where they shoot one of the movie scenes. Very cute inside and outside. They sell pies that look delicious. Parking is nearby in a shared lot for only $5! The seabird resort is right across street. There's lots of restaurants on the beach and near the pier. You can easily spent half day here. It's only 1.5 hours from LA so I'll definitely visit again! read more

OK, I'll start with the food- I had two blueberry pies and one strawberry rhubarb. The blueberries were awesome. The rhubarb was not to be cruel, but awful. I will have to get the soft serve ice cream next time! The service - the young lady at the front counter was very engaging and helpful. (Also pretty cute sorry I had to) and they're very quick getting the pies out to me. As far as the ambience - it was definitely stepped back in time to the 80s. With all the proper nods to top gun. We ordered three high pies (blueberry , two apple) I was surprised on how small the pies were . Taste was okay nothing to rave about only issue was it took a while to get our pies because staff was in the back gossiping . I could see them from where I was sitting down in the bakery and there was no care into how long the lines were by the register and for people waiting to get pies . We bought 18 pies, realized AFTER getting home that we only received 12 (they put the bag on the counter and we thought that was the whole order). No one answers the phone or responds to a text inquiry - so we will now have to go to our bank and request a refund. High-pie is located inside the Top Fun House. The house itself is a great place to visit! It's part of the Hyatt Mission Pacific Hotel. Many tourists stop and take pictures. Even if you don't order high pie it's worthwhile to walk through the house. It is Victorian on the outside and inside. The smell of high pie is strong in here. There a counter to order. Service was OK. You pick up your order in the next room. There's seating in the porch or outside under umbrellas. I ordered the cherry high pie Ala mode and the blueberry high pie Ala mode. The ice cream is inside the pie as is the filling. All of that is on the stick. I find that to be unique! However, I found the ice cream to be lacking. I wish there was more. The blueberry filling was good. The exterior was crunchy and powder sugar adds to it. I just wish there was more. It was $5 which is OK. read more

"Iconic Spot for Top Gun Fans" It's the original house from the 1986 movie "Top Gun" with Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis. The house was restored in 2019 and relocated one block down the street in between two newly constructed resorts. As a big Top Gun fan and SD resident, I had to check it out and it was great! Seeing the outside and remembering scenes from the movie was a great experience. After taking some pics, we went inside the house which now serves as a museum/ pie shop. I think overall as both a pie shop and landmark it was an ok experience. It was great seeing the house, but otherwise there wasn't much else to look at. The pies were good, flaky and buttery, but they weren't anything spectacular. I do like that they went with something different and made them mini pies. They had your traditional flavors like apple and berry, along with an ala mode version with ice cream inside. Bottom line: Go for the experience and enjoy a decent treat as well. read more

Located next to the beach of Oceanside Pier, High Pie is also known as the "Top Gun House". They sell pastries and coffee. They have a vegan peanut butter cookie which is pretty good! At the time of this review, it is the only vegan option. It would be great for them to a have a vegan pie too. Their coffee is pretty good and they offer plant based milks (Almond and Oat). They have vanilla and caramel for flavorings. High Pie is probably one of the closest places to the pier that sells coffee and beverages. The decorations are pretty cool and they have some indoor seating but more outdoor. From my experience the staff have been friendly and efficient. In terms of food and service, it is not necessarily exceptional though the location and it being the "Top Gun House" makes it a place to stop by if you are in the area! read more

I wanted to check out High-Pie while in Oceanside and I had a few reasons, besides liking pies. The actual house is a historic Victorian house, nicely renovated that dates back from 1887. On top of it, it was used as a location for the original "Top Gun" it was the beach home of Kelly McGillis' character. A few layers of fun facts. They close at 7 pm (winter hours), closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The house is cute, it has nice seating outside, very charming, a bit of seating inside as well. Lots of "Top Gun" memorabilia for movie fans all around! I got a box of 3 pies ($9), one with blueberry filling and 2 with cherry. I thought this place might be a gimmick but the pies were great, flavorful, full of fruit filling, delicious. They know their pies here, I'd come back in a heartbeat for a sweet treat! It's right across the street from the beautiful Oceanside pier It's a pie shop we did not take advantage of having one of their delicious looking pies or pie bites. I'm not sure why the reviews are so low. Maybe they changed the pie recipe because I thought they were yummy. I'm no fan of Tom Cruz, or Top Gun, but I am a fan of themed commercial places so this was right up my alley. There is a free parking lot on the other side of the hotel. This is the perfect spot to catch the most gorgeous sunsets I've ever seen. Right across the street from High Pie is a pier with beautiful views. There is a hotel wrapped around the house but it's still a great place for pictures. I got the $34 pie flight with blueberry, cherry & apple. The pies are small (served warm) but to me it was a perfect balance of a crust to fruit filling ratio. The fillings weren't just sweet, the tartness was well balanced. I want to thank the Oceanside Historical Society for saving this victorian home from demolition. The Grave's house, built in 1888, had a history before it became known as the "Top Gun House". This place is a nice little stop for some 'punch & pie'. Easy refreshment, simple treats, some cool photos on the walls and the rooms are nicely decorated. Kudos to Oceanside for keeping the Top Gun House alive and well. read more

I finally got around to seeing the Top Gun House. The shop itself is adorable..it has that cozy, small-town charm that makes you want to stay awhile. The decor is inviting, and the staff was friendly, which made me even more excited to try their pies. Unfortunately, the pies didn't quite live up to my expectations.
