I truly recommend this restaurant. This is the type of restaurant that gets ignored but should NOT because it was very good and affordable. It was very nice and comfortable inside as well. The food all looks pleasing and is presented very nicely, but we weren't overwhelmingly satisfied with any of our appetizers or our entrees. When I came here, I was in a huge hurry. I told the waiter my situation and he did everything he could to accommodate my schedule. My food came out quickly and it was delicious. The prices are reasonable. I overtopped my server because he was so helpful. He came back and double-checked to make sure I had intended this tip. That gesture spoke highly of his character. What's not to like, great food, excellent service and a BYOB. We've dined here twice in the last month, last nite we had 3 apps - cajun calamari, blacken alligator and some blacken scallops. I had the blacken red snapper over shrimp jambalaya for dinner - absolutely awesome, for dessert I had the pecan bourbon pie with vanilla ice cream equally as good and our server was fantastic. Recent visit, I was suggested a platter by an employee who was not my server. Should have taken another look at menu after 1st read, because this platter is 2nd most expensive menu item; no warning. Blackened Chicken, Shrimp & Scallops arrived at table warm, seasoning was light for this cuisine, large proportion of chicken compared to shrimp, scallops, and rice. Ooph- I want to like this place so let's start with the good- The service was very friendly and fast. It's also a byob which is really nice and the atmosphere is really enjoyable. In that regard, it has a lot going for it. But what can't be ignored is the food!! I ordered the seafood etouffee and it was one of the worst dishes I've had in a while. The scallops, shrimp, and crawfish were incredibly over cooked. Tough, flavorless seafood- no thanks! I didn't even bother eating my proteins so I essentially ate the rice and called it a day. The dish came out VERY fast and VERY hot- perhaps they microwaved it? Or had it stewing all day?? I also had the gator bites and they too were a disappointment. The cook was better, but the serving size was comically small at best. For $20 I expected more than 2(?) ounces of gator. This place raves about its culinary reviews, but that must be a thing of the past. There's no way this place won anything at its current state. I wish this place luck- it has a lot of potential, but did not deliver for me. read more

What an interesting little find, thanks to the Yelp Talk threads who mentioned this hidden gem. Cajun, with a big NOLA vibe to the place. I loved the very long beer list and managed to find a couple that I'd not seen before. Good stuff. I opted to skip the appetizer and go right to the main course. Jambalaya, with added shrimp and crawfish. Very tasty and a little spicy, with a good amount of shellfish in there and lots of rings of squid, I believe. A good sized portion, I ended up only managing to eat half of it. And while the dessert list looked good, nothing jumped out and said eat me. Consider bringing a small flashlight or the light app on your phone. It's dark in there! Street parking. read more

The food was amazing. You have to start with their Cajun pierogies and fried crawfish, they are delicious. All the entrees are excellent especially the braised short ribs gnocchi on their specials menu. Their gumbo was delicious and full of chicken and shrimp. And don't forget to ask for their bread and Cajun butter, it is a delicious starter. read more

Absolutely delicious every time! If you like Cajun food you have to go here. First off, I definitely went out of my comfort zone for the first time at a restaurant. I tried the alligator appetizer with the honey mustard sauce. My boyfriend somehow talked me into it. Never in my life would I think to have gator but I have to say it was so delicious and flavorful. It did in fact taste like chicken! I think what I liked most about it was it was cut into small bites so it kept the meat tender and crispy. I am so glad I tried it too I will have to order it again. I definitely recommend the jambalaya. It has tons of flavor, full of seafood, and just the right amount of spice to it. The fra Diablo was also very good. Wasn't as spicy as I thought it was going to be but maybe that is because we had the XXX Shrimp! That was very tasty but I will warn you it's HOT as in SPICY!! So be aware. The desserts are also very good here. I recommend the pecan pie and tiramisu. Both are delicious. We both really enjoyed the meals, atmosphere (love the purple interior and lighting), and it was so reasonable. Can't wait to go back again and try something else! read more

The Cajun style food was really delicious. My fiancé tried alligator for the first time! We both lead a low carb lifestyle and they were accommodating to our food requirements and adjusted our meals so that they were tasty and filling and we didn't miss a thing! Our server went out of her way to make us feel special and had many suggestions as to what we could substitute for our carbs. The decor is all about Mardi Gras. The lighting was at just the right level to make it feel more intimate. I would be interested in going back when the weather is warmer and eating outside. read more

This is my 5th time here and i always love it!! I recommend the prefix - the combos I've had are: poached pear salad, blackened chicken entree, bourbon pecan pie .. & today I had goat cheese salad, blackened crab cake, key lime pie. After a year sidelined by Covid, and 2 weeks after my wife and I had our 2nd vaccine, we returned to High Street Caffe to celebrate. So good to return to the great food and vibes. I always get the Cajun Popcorn, this time with the crab cakes and artichoke cream sauce. My wife got the salad with scallops entree. The restaurant was only set for 50% capacity, but all the tables were filled. Looks like we're not the only ones wanting to get back to normal. The food is still exceptional. Not sure how this restaurant is still open. Years ago it was delish but last time we went in April 2022 it was not good. The blackened red snapper I ordered must have been freezer burned or something because it was tasteless and bad texture. They also got rid of their liquor license so it's a byob now but only beer and wine I believe. Sad because it used to be so good. read more

Fantastic Cajun menu in an authentically themed atmosphere. The food was fantastic, we started with the Cream of Crab Soup...... fantastic..... nice bowl with lots of crab for $10.00. Then we had the Cashew Chicken and Shrimp in Bourbon Light Cream Sauce over rice, which also had some sautéed onions and peppers..... one of the best cajan dishes I have ever had. Also the Lobster Ravioli with Blackened Shrimp in a light Truffle Cream Sauce was on the table....very flavorful.... The raviolis where heavily filled and the shrimp were a good size.... As well as every other restaurant in Chester County. Of all the restaurants: new school, old school, and every type of cuisine; I've NEVER had a bad meal at HSC/VUDU. This BYOB minds its own business next to a Burger King. I've had dinner here twice and noticed it's one popular spot, as it was crowded both times (Tuesday and Friday). From appetizers to entrees to desserts, High Street Caffe delivers gourmet Cajun, creole, and "exotic" cuisine in healthy portions: - Their complimentary sugarbread (heavenly!) and butter/sour cream mix (smooth and rich) is made in-house. - My favorite appetizer is their voodoo crawfish ($9), made with a triple-XXX barbecue paste and served with rice and sour cream - I never found out what was in it, except for habaneros. When it was brought out, I was warned not to dig in right away, though the suffocating smell alone was warning enough! When I finally bit into the crawfish, I experienced pain and pleasure fused together. (At one point I was sobbing. I drank so much water it was unhealthy, and yes, I will order it again. Thank god for the sour cream in it.) - Their blackened crocodile tail appetizer ($10) is covered with an exciting creole mustard sauce. The tender small bits of meat (cooked in Cajun spices) melted in our mouths. - The fried shrimp wenner ($11) is great, just like the crawfish. Creole-fried shrimp sauteed with Andouille, onions and tomatoes in a sweet and spicy habanero sauce, with rice. Unlike the crawfish, the wenner is bearable and finger-licking good (but don't eat them with your hands). - The pan seared duck appetizer (~$10) which was sweet and moist (mmmm fatty) thanks to a bourbon apricot glaze. Sadly it was only a special for that day... Entrees I've had were so-so: - The mesquite pepper ostrich isn't bad. I had it cooked medium rare and it tasted practically raw. Perhaps the crawfish destroyed my tastebuds, but there didn't seem to be any taste to the ostrich (also don't see it on the menu now). - Their lamb tenderloins ($24) were tasty and tender but the next time I go to High Street, I think I'll stick to the small plates! More bang for my buck, thank you. The shining service and AMAZING appetizers alone make it easy for me to overlook the entrees and give this High Street Caffe my highest recommendation. This place rocks my world and it'll rock yours too. Reservations recommended. read more

3.5 stars Food was excellent! - Complimentary bread: It was OK.. Unlike other yelpers said, bread or butter wasn't that great to be honest.. - Voodoo shrimp: This was over the top hot/spicy. I can handle very spicy food pretty well but after this voodoo shrimp, I was afraid of eating anything spicy for a while. I don't recommend this unless you can eat a handful of thai pepper or jalapeno. - Vegan Etouffe: This was made by request. We asked for something vegan and the chef created vegan Etouffe. It was delicious!! It tastes like very flavorful thai curry. - Pecan shrimp bourbon orleans over rice: This was creamy but very flavorful. I really liked this dish. I didn't want chicken so the chef made it with just shrimp. - Banana foster: This was one of the best banana foster I've had. Caramel was perfectly sweet and blended well with banana. Highly recommended. The restaurant is small and kinda dark. Only two servers were working in the entire restaurant to take the order, deliver food and take care of the bill. so even if there were some runners helping with refilling water and clearing up plates, it lacks the efficiency and attention. read more

Every time I'm in West Chester, this place is at the top of my 'must do' list. There's not much that I don't like about the place. It's cozy, the staff is wonderful, good food, good drinks, and the restaurant completely nails it's New Orleans theme. During my most recent visit I decided to go with one of the meal deals they had running for $35 you got a three course meal. Which, all things considered, isn't a bad deal. I got the fried calamari for an appetizer. You can't go wrong with their calamari. It's amazing. For my entree I got the mustard fried catfish. This is the only thing that fell a little short. The fish was fried with a homemade mustard sauce on top. The mustard sauce made the fish a little soggy, and just not as good. Next time I think I will request the mustard sauce on the side. The fish was definitely piping hot. For desert I got the mango sorbet. You can't go wrong with the mango sorbet. It's simply delightful. I have to give big props to the manager (I'm assuming he was the manage... Maybe the owner) but he is wonderful. He is so accommodating and does everything in his power to see that his guests leave happy. If you're in West Chester, definitely give this place a try! read more

Been here 6 or 7 times in the past 10 years or so. Food is consistently good. Love that it's back to BYOB. Lots of menu selections. Some things are pretty spicy! Ie voodoo shrimp, but come with ample warning. One of few Cajun restaurants in the area that I'm aware of. A nice break from your traditional American or Italian fare. read more
