Let's start with the reheated chicken they use, it's just like that foster farms crap you buy at the super market. Clearly processed, not fresh, and utterly disgusting. I have lived in Alamo for years and am shocked this place is still in business. Not to mention how rude and slow the service is, it's a disgrace. I take a star off for calling itself Mexican. Just because it's wrapped in a tortilla does not make it Mexican. If you go into this place expecting a traditional Mexican burrito, you will be disappointed. If you go into this place expecting a California style wrap, you're good to go. They have a healthier side of the menu that I appreciated and I immediately went for a shrimp curry wrap that was very good. The fillings seemed healthy and fresh. My husband tried the California and liked it. Somebody else at the table tried the carnitas and said it was ok. Like I said, not authentic Mexican. Go with the more California style burritos and I think you will be happier. Prices were good and portions decent. I have to hand it to them, but their tortilla chips are really GOOD. Their salsa was underwhelming though. Update 9/2013: Jokes on me for even calling a burrito Mexican. Because it ain't. I usually love this place but today I walked in to order food, there was 2 ladies and a gentleman working. One lady was preparing food with no gloves, she was making burritos and rolling it up with her bare hands, the gentleman was also taking what looked like meat from a package out with his bare hands, no gloves. I'm not sure when the people who went through who were complaining of staff members not wearing gloves or being masked occurred but when we were there everyone was fully gloved and masked and following all sanitation protocols. We had noticed that Rubio's out in Concord service was falling off and the quality of the food is getting worse and worse so we were looking for a new lunch time Mexican favorite place and decided to give this place a try. Like that they will split it in half and wrap the halves, but flavor was bland (even with the onions). Well la-dee-dah, I've been hanging with the rich and not so famous in Alamo the past couple of days. And both days, I found myself here for lunch. Day One, I selected the Cajun Chicken and Shrimp Burrito. I liked the fresh lettuce which I usually would decline on a burrito. In fact, all of the ingredients were very fresh and tasty. My only complaint was towards the bottom, it was way too juicy! That made for a car dining disaster. Honestly, there's all this hype over texting and driving. I find eating while driving to be way more dangerous...but that's just me! Then today, the choice was chicken street tacos--high five to one of my BFFs for comparing the name to hookers--great laugh and we sure needed that. I am the Duke of HTB in Alamo and have been a regular the last four years. The portions have dropped tremendously and the food is no where what it used to be. My last few visits I went back to my old staple, the "Godzilla". It is supposed to be their signature burrito filled with steak and chicken, beans, etc. I have ordered this item on a few separate occasions, and did so purposely as the amount of protein appeared to have been much less than prior visits over the years. This last time I ordered the Godzilla burrito, it was 90% beans and I counted two pieces of steak and two or three small chunks of chicken. So disappointing as I am used to getting good value at this location. I order the itty-bitty bean burritos for the kids, and they are now the size of oversized magic markers. So sad in size and again disappointing! I sent an Email to HTB via their website a few times with no reply from corp management. I really believe the store managers have been told to scale back on portion amounts in a likley attempt to raise profits. I cannot believe that I am being forced to leave a one star rating for my favorite local fast food place, but it is so justified, unfortunately. read more

If you are extremely hungry you might be able to finish one of these burritos, huge lack of flavor, absolutely no seasoning. If you order the supposed "grilled" chicken which tastes rubbery and bland, also tastes boiled no char flavor what so ever. The rice and beans also the same, zero flavor or seasonings, the flour tortillas are very dry, flaky and overall not good either. The icing on the cake is whoever made my burrito clearly does not know how to roll a burrito since I took 2 bites and the bottom oozed out like a messy flavorless pile, I just let it drop onto the curb, saves me the chore of trying to eat it. This is an update from my first review. I ordered a custom burrito, with chicken, avocado, Spanish rice, black beans and avocado verde salsa. This burrito was way better than the first one, but I was still not impressed. There was overcooked hard rice that hurt when I bit into the burrito a few times, the chicken isn't the best quality. However the avocado salsa was amazing! I would get the burrito again just because of the salsa. But overall I still believe 8 dollars is a lot for an okay burrito. read more

If you want to have a crappy meal. Please order from here. For the second time I ordered food delivery through door dash and they got one meal wrong. Apparently they don't read the special request. I asked for salsa which is kinda standard when your eating Mexican. But I made a special request anyway. And not only is that not standard for them. They ignored my "request" for the sides of salsa. Another request was to have one of their specials in a bowl. Again ignored that and gave me a burrito. When I called they said oh we don't read those. This is not the first time I've had issues with them but was clearly trying to give them a second and third chance. On top of all this their food is mediocre. Extremely cheap owner for not just including a few small sides of salsa when you order a burrito. When I've dined in their restaurant when you ask for a side of salsa it's like you've asked them for twenty dollars. So sad. Reply to Jessica: What do you mean by its "hard" to read it. Ok, I don't know how I used to love this place 10 years ago. I just recently moved home (again! Thanks M and D!) and needed my burrito fix. I was too hungry and lazy to drive to El Balazo, so I gave into the High tech. Where to even begin. First, I paid .90 cents extra for guac and the first two bites of my burrito were only guac and then I didn't get ANY in the rest of it. Ewww. The whole thing had absolutely no taste. The black beans were mushy, the rice tasted just wrong. And, I ate the whole burrito in about 5 minutes and wasn't even satisfied. The surf and turf has been one of my favorite burritos for over a decade; but yesterday I brought my girlfriend to this location to try the burrito that I have spoke so highly of; she was reluctant of the idea of a corporate burrito. Upon my first bite I knew something was different about my favorite burrito. I could only take two forced bites before the horrible aftertaste of new poorer quality meet and tons of sub par fillers. It had been a year since I had the "surf and turf" burrito from a HTB location and I was not only disgusted by the changes; I felt like an idiot for convincing my girlfriend to eat at this location on our bike ride. She stated "I got exactly what I expected, a terrible burrito from a chain Mexican restaurant". Went back for the first time in over a year. I tried a new menu item a sushi burrito. Sadly I asked if avocado was included, because it was photographed in the picture. I was assured guacamole would be in the burrito. There was no guacamole, cucumber (listed in the description) just the main filling, rice, arugula, and sauce. New seasonal item and they can't get the listed ingredients or the ones I was assured were supposed to be in the item. It will be another year before I try again, maybe longer. I keep hoping things will improve. I am a vegan and sadly it feels like the vegan options are mainly brown rice. Tofu is often sparse in comparison to what I observe meat eaters getting. Today I ordered a yellow curry with tofu in a bowl and no cilantro garnish. It had the cilantro and I refused it. The second attempt had some tofu, but mostly rice and tomato. Squash was also sparse. I always enjoyed going to high tech burrito it brings back memories from my time as an employee. I work fot them for 3 years at 2 different locations Berkeley and Alamo. As an ex employee I know first hand the quality of the food, everything is freshly made, with high quality ingredients.
