Highbrew Coffee Co is a coffee shop/pastry place located off fagenbush road in the highview neighborhood of Lousiville. Highview is a highly populated residential area in the city of Louisville that for years hasn't had a dedicated coffee shop. We'll no longer. This lovely decorated coffee shop has changed that. As mentioned the decor is very classy and nice. For some reason it gave me a vibe from the show "friends". I think it was the brightly colored sofa and the fact it's a coffee shop. They have a menu on the wall with the drink options. The options include a kids menu that is more milk based and not caffeine based. I spoke with the owner who is a working parent and who has kids so she understood the need for a coffee shop with more kid/child friendly options. Speaking of kids I made this trip with 3 of my 4 daughters (second oldest is at cheer/choreography camp this week). The owner and her co worker we're great with them all. Patient and helpful as they made there decisions. My oldest ultimately went with a iced mocha that she said was phenomenal. I did not try it but it looked good. My second youngest got a hot chocolate and she devoured it quickly so I'll say it was good. They have a small pastry section of muffins and coffee cake on the counter. I went with a blueberry muffin (very good) and my daughter got a chocolate muffin that she said was really good too. For my drink I got a white Dutch chocolate. It had really good flavor to it with a nice mix of chocolate to coffee ratio. Very good drink. The service was great and as I mentioned they were great with my daughters. My one year old was exploring the shop and the owner actually gave her a small cup of some frozen ice cream that they have. Very nice of her and then baby liked it a lot. Overall it's awesome to see highview get a coffee shop. Even more awesome that it seems like it ran by genuinely nice people. The decor here is super cool and I think will be popular for visitors. The bar area is supper awesome. I heard the owner telling another patron that her husband made it. Kudos to him. It looks great. Everything here was enjoyable and we had an awesome visit. I live in the area and if you do too you know there are not many coffee shops nearby! This is about 5 mins from my house and a cute small local coffee shop. I have been a few times and the staff is very friendly and helpful when ordering. They have a very unique menu but can make anything you'd like. The iced vanilla latte is good and the hot chocolate is nice on a cold day. I do wish they had more food options but the muffins they have are good! But I am putting 4 stars because even though I am a frequent customer and have no complaints on customer service/quality of product, they are always out of purées, cups, ice, or muffins/treats, etc. I have had this issue the past 4 times I've visited and it's a real bummer. I think the demand is great! But they may need to increase their supply. Other than that, I do enjoy visiting and all the flavors are delicious. Service was warm and friendly. Coffee was worst we have ever had - that is not hyperbole. I order the pumpkin spice which was too sweet to be palatable and had no coffee flavor at all. My husband had a basic cappuccino. The cappuccino was not strong; barely had any coffee flavor; tasted as though it was made with weak coffee and no espresso or the barista forgot espresso all together: would describe it was a watery milk drink. We actually poured out both "coffees" at home. We were disappointed as we loved the atmosphere and vibe. We try to support local and want small businesses to succeed. This coffee house has a warm, eclectic decor and gives an urban vibe. If the product could be top notch, this place could be a much needed gem in Highview. We will give it another try too see if this was just a poorly trained barista or the actual product of High Brew. One more critique: it was silent when we arrived; music would have created a less awkward vibe. Barista turned on the TV to a Seinfeld episode: again, music to set a chill vibe would be more welcoming.
