We've been here several times on our way home from the mountains and we have always had great service and great food. I had the char burger and wing chips and my wife had the fried chicken ranch flip (quesadilla) with wing chips. Both were cooked to perfection and the chips were the best we've had anywhere. Burger does not look like the website photos or billboards around town. In fact it looked and tasted like a frozen burger similar to a ball park. NOT worth the price. $16 for a burger? Come On!! What's not to love. This place has tons of outside parking, lots of different seating options from booths to patio seating to tables. Thier wall art is amazing. It is customized images of thier menu items made into movie and advertisment posters. Very clever! I think the men's golf cleaner image across from the bathrooms is a personal fav. From service to ambiance to the food itself, Higher Ground has mastered it all. Absolutely worth the drive from wherever you may be coming from (Savannah, GA for our little family). My boyfriend and I both went with the char-cheese burgers (essentially a classic burger with cheese, tomato, onion, pickle, and lettuce). Both burgers were cooked to our liking and to perfection per our standard. Be aware though, these burgers are BIG! We've been 'frequent flyers' at Higher Ground since they opened & always had exceptionally good food, service, atmosphere, etc. Regrettably, however, the original owner retired & the new operation is no where near what had been expected. First, the posted menu prices, like everywhere else, were way high & the quality of the meal wasn't even close. I ordered the small shrimp platter & was greatly disappointed. The shrimp were small, obviously pre- breaded, flash frozen & commercially packaged. And at nearly $20, I'd expected much better. The service was, as always, courteous & professional, but the soft drinks were completely flat and baked beans were just above room temp. There are many tables outside along with green field turf, a putting green, a slide for the kids and corn hole. We ate inside... It was nice and cozy. They offered a large appetizer menu, beer in bottles only and a few wines. Pepsi products for soft drinks. The burgers were the stars of the show.... cooked to order, thick and juicy. The service and ambiance was nice. We went on a Saturday at around 4:30, and it seems like we beat the dinner rush. There were people piled up at the door waiting for a seat by the time we were finished. I will say our server wasn't as attentive as I'd have preferred, but there were enough other servers around that we didn't go waiting for something we wanted for too long. We split an order of buffalo cheese fries ($7.99). It was enough to feed the both of us before we got our dinner. They were pretty good. The celery in the fries was a very unique touch, and it had a pleasing taste. However, I think something that would definitely improve them would be the addition of shredded chicken. If it came as is with shredded chicken on top, it would be a very delicious appetizer (or meal if you're by yourself). I got a Sir Porks-A-Lot burger ($16.99). It was slightly overcooked when I asked for medium rare. The meat/grease taste from the burger was pretty strong, it was way too big to pick up, and the bun was soaking wet from absorbing all of the liquid. It was a struggle to get through with an appetizer already in my stomach, but I truly enjoyed the taste. The bun was of nice quality, the pork tasted very good, but the lettuce was completely wilted. The coleslaw on the burger made up for the lack of crunch from the lettuce, however, and added a refreshing aspect to an otherwise pretty meat-heavy dish. The HG BBQ sauce that came with the burger was a great addition to the meal. The fries that came with the burger were great and seasoned nicely. I ended up taking them home since I couldn't finish them. I'd say my biggest complaint about the burger was its structural integrity and the way it was served. Since there were a lot of juices/grease from the burger, it wet the wax paper that it was served on too much, and it started to leak through the holes in the basket. The paper also ripped when I cut into the burger (since it was impossible to pick up and eat), and so that was another reason it leaked onto the table. I think the baskets are a nice vibe, but probably a plate would do better for something so big. The other person with me got the Run-A-Ground burger ($17.99). He said he enjoyed it, but that there was just too much. He got the burger medium well with a side of coleslaw. I gave the burger a taste, and I agreed that there was certainly a lot of meat. He ended up cutting the burger and eating it in individual parts (bacon, then patty, etc). He didn't end up finishing his burger, barely touched his coleslaw, and took them home--which is saying a lot since he often finishes his meals. Overall, we felt like we got too much food, but the amount of food is worth the price in our opinion. We felt like either we should each get an appetizer and go home, or each only get an entree instead of getting both. We also got dessert to take home, which was a cheesecake with strawberry drizzle and a cut up strawberry. We split it, and were both pleased by it. I liked that they served a fresh strawberry rather than canned ones.
