The service and ambiance was nice. We went on a Saturday at around 4:30, and it seems like we beat the dinner rush. There were people piled up at the door waiting for a seat by the time we were finished. I will say our server wasn't as attentive as I'd have preferred, but there were enough other servers around that we didn't go waiting for something we wanted for too long. We split an order of buffalo cheese fries ($7.99). It was enough to feed the both of us before we got our dinner. They were pretty good. The celery in the fries was a very unique touch, and it had a pleasing taste. However, I think something that would definitely improve them would be the addition of shredded chicken. If it came as is with shredded chicken on top, it would be a very delicious appetizer (or meal if you're by yourself). I got a Sir Porks-A-Lot burger ($16.99). It was slightly overcooked when I asked for medium rare. The meat/grease taste from the burger was pretty strong, it was way too big to pick up, and the bun was soaking wet from absorbing all of the liquid. It was a struggle to get through with an appetizer already in my stomach, but I truly enjoyed the taste. The bun was of nice quality, the pork tasted very good, but the lettuce was completely wilted. The coleslaw on the burger made up for the lack of crunch from the lettuce, however, and added a refreshing aspect to an otherwise pretty meat-heavy dish. The HG BBQ sauce that came with the burger was a great addition to the meal. The fries that came with the burger were great and seasoned nicely. I ended up taking them home since I couldn't finish them. I'd say my biggest complaint about the burger was its structural integrity and the way it was served. Since there were a lot of juices/grease from the burger, it wet the wax paper that it was served on too much, and it started to leak through the holes in the basket. The paper also ripped when I cut into the burger (since it was impossible to pick up and eat), and so that was another reason it leaked onto the table. I think the baskets are a nice vibe, but probably a plate would do better for something so big. The other person with me got the Run-A-Ground burger ($17.99). He said he enjoyed it, but that there was just too much. He got the burger medium well with a side of coleslaw. I gave the burger a taste, and I agreed that there was certainly a lot of meat. He ended up cutting the burger and eating it in individual parts (bacon, then patty, etc). He didn't end up finishing his burger, barely touched his coleslaw, and took them home--which is saying a lot since he often finishes his meals. Overall, we felt like we got too much food, but the amount of food is worth the price in our opinion. We felt like either we should each get an appetizer and go home, or each only get an entree instead of getting both. We also got dessert to take home, which was a cheesecake with strawberry drizzle and a cut up strawberry. We split it, and were both pleased by it. I liked that they served a fresh strawberry rather than canned ones. Outside seating was great for the kids to play and us to relax in the shade. Inside seemed nice as well. This restaurant adds 3.5% to your bill if you use a credit card. The only notice is written in the tiniest font on their menu. Literally, the smallest font on their menu has the notice. The server doesn't mention it and I didn't see any signs about it. If they want to charge more for using the most common form of payment, they should make it obvious instead of hiding it. Well.... Was contacted by the owner thru Yelp. He basically called me a liar. He wasn't there first of all.so how would he know what happened? The food runner even-said the burger was smaller and the onion rings were about as cold and old as you can get,and yes one or two looked burnt. Nobody offered to replace the food. Nobody!! The menu however is substantial,and sufficient if you want to name all of your food like a little kid,but hey;that's certainly your call. I understand inflation and rising prices, but you can't raise prices and make your portions smaller. We have been eating here for 5 years since moving here and this will have to be the last time. We live less than 5 mins away and our food was ice cold by the time we got home, as well as the awful portion size of fries. I barely had 8 decent size fries. The hotdog was disappointing coming as a plain dog sticking out of a plain bun with 3 little plastic cups of chili onions and shredded cheese I could add my self. The salad came at the same time and not before hotdog so I ate the dog while it was sort of warm and then the salad. I've always gotten the burgers and will next time. read more

Great burger and fries. The kitchen was a tad slow-ish, but our delightful server kept us hydrated and it allowed us to spend a few more minutes embarrassing ourselves on the putting green. The only downside ... the outdoor seating is adjacent to the parking and an inconsiderate oaf felt that it was necessary for us to listen to is clapped-out Dodge Charger, that was in serious need of a muffler, and parked with six feet of out table. I finally got my Bride, avoids meat, to try this place out. We both found the food was stupendous!!! My burger was perfect with a fried green tomato on it along with really good pimento cheese!!! My Bride chose fried boneless chicken breast in her sandwich instead of a burger. She loved it!!! I tasted a piece of the chicken and was blown away with it being so tender and flavorful. Naturally I ordered the onion rings which are some of the best around!!! My accomplice made sure I only ate half though. We really enjoyed our waitress, Brie, and will try to sit at one of her tables again. BTW, their ice tea is excellent and not triple sweet. Had dinner on Friday night and was a bit taken back. I have eaten at the higher ground several times and have had excellent experiences in regards to the food and the service. But this Friday was not very good. Ordered the sampler appetizer and it was over cooked, fried. The restaurant was very busy and the wait staff seemed overwhelmed. They did take care of the problem and replaced with some fries . The meal was ok after that. I am sure that the evening was just a fluke. I will be dining out again with higher ground. read more

What a great find in this little unassuming roadside cafe. We stopped in after out looking at wedding venues and was so happy to find it. The restaurant has such a great casual vibe and I can really appreciate someone that takes pride in keeping a restaurant clean and tidy. Our server was so sweet and I wish I remembered her name because she was fantastic! We started off with the fried squash/zucchini appetizer. The house-made ranch was such a great accompaniment to it plus they sneak in two onion rings which were great!
