I come up to Crestline almost every other week and whenever I do I have to make a stop here! They have a traditional American coffee shop menu with several dairy alternative and syrup options. They also serve homemade pastries and breakfast sandwiches in the morning. This place does have free wifi (which is great in a place with spotty reception). They're staff is what you would expect at a small coffee shop: friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. 90% of seating is outdoors, a few tables inside, but with the weather here, why wouldn't you want to sit outside! The outside patio is separated in two, one half is pet friendly, the other half is no pets allowed. Parking is limited, so on a busy Sunday morning I had to park a block away, but don't let this discourage you, its well worth the walk. Even on a busy day I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes for my drink and food. The outside patio with wifi is a great place to get some work done or meet with a group of friends. I always order the same drink so I can't comment on the quality of anything other than a latte. They're food is reasonably priced and a great option for light breakfast before a long drive down the mountain. I look forward to coming here many times more and would definitely recommend Higher Grounds Coffee House! read more

I ordered an iced vanilla latte with oat milk and that was also pretty good. It was smooth, not too sweet and I really liked the taste of the coffee they used. With a snow and wind storm brewing, decided to head for warmer climes. But first, a dirty Chai at this unique place. Looks as if it had been a gas station at some point in its life. Very small area inside for indoor dining/sipping; three small tables with 2 chairs each. Very fast internet was a plus, as well as the friendly barista; seems like a hub of high school and or college aged employees. Nice vibes and energy. The dirty Chai lacked depth but Cinnamon forward. Tasted dilute to me, so perhaps just more of the Chai would have sufficed? The Reese's pieces cookie was superb, especially when warmed. read more

Had to ask a few times in order to get a water. Not only that it takes 8 minutes to grab a cup and fill it with water? The staff move like sloths, and way over priced. Recently bought a property in the area and I love how close it is to this amazing little coffee shop! What looks like a former gas stop has been curated into the cutest coffee shop. The inside might be small but they have plenty of outdoor seating, which is where you'll want to sit if you're visiting the mountain town anyways. The coffee and tea are all delicious and they have several options to choose from (including seasonal menus). They serve a small menu of food and have pastries as well. BEST coffee shop on the mountain. There's a Starbucks 4 minutes from our house, but we drive 15 minutes to Higher Grounds instead. Delicious coffee, creative seasonal drinks and bomb pastries. The shop is always showcasing wonderful artwork for sale and they stay really involved with the local community. The outdoor seating area is great for warmer weather. Inside the shop is very cozy and tastefully decorated. The baristas are always friendly and welcoming. Our only gripe is that the shop is closed on Sundays when we're always in the mood for coffee and breakfast. read more

Was in Lake Arrowhead for the weekend and found this coffee shop.. drove five miles just off of the name alone.. My friend and I weren't disappointed! It's a cute little hipster place with plenty of patio seating. They sell sweaters and shirts and other gift items such as mugs. We bought a few items to try out like the cream puff.. the whipped cream was the best I've had... it's a must buy!! I had an avocado toast. Also got a few cookies for the kids and they devoured them. I really enjoyed my vanilla latte made with almond milk and my friend enjoyed her cappuccino. I enjoyed it so much I returned the following day while on my way to Mt. Upon entering, the coffee shop itself was warm & inviting with Christmas music playing with delicious homemade pastries in the display. There were a few customers waiting for their orders. However, when we ordered our coffees, the employees treated us very coldly. At first, I thought it was just me so I ignored it. But when we sat in the corner out of sight, the employees were happily chatting. My boyfriend asked for a key to the restroom & again, was treated coldly. Stopped by Higher Grounds because was looking for a decent coffee shop while in the Crestline area. We decided to stop by as it's on the main drag of the Lake Gregory area and we were waiting for our pizza order from Roadhouse. Cute little place, looks like maybe it took over a gas station building or something similar at some point. Walked in and the two people there were really friendly. I ordered an iced Americano and a hot Mocha. I didn't think a place like that would have a restroom open, but they did, thank goodness, and it was clean! They provided a key and it's just around the corner. I went back in and saw that they had some really good looking pastries. The coffees were priced normally, so I think around $9 for two drinks. I asked the woman there if she knew of any sledding areas and she mentioned that there aren't any designated areas, but gave us some suggestions and even grabbed her phone to show me. What she suggested was perfect for our needs (a toddler who just wants to play in snow), so thank you Andrea for being so kind! The coffee hit the spot for being up in the mountains. They are wearing masks and I felt safe while inside as other customers (only one or two others came while I was there), were wearing masks and following the mask required sign on the door. I came up to Crestline this past weekend and came here two days in a row. I was planning on trying coffee from a couple of spots, but I came here first so Higher Grounds Coffee it is! The place itself always had parking when I came by, a nice big outdoor patio with seating and both times I came the staff were kind and did a great job with my drink. I ordered an iced americano with 1 part vanilla, 1 part hazelnut with almond milk and extra ice and I kid you not, I have not drank an iced coffee like it. I've had Monin syrups at other shops before, but they also use their own coffee so I think that must be what makes this the best iced coffee I've had in a while. I happened to be in the shop when (I assume) the owner was in and talking about the coffee and technique with the girls. The way they were all talking together was all good vibes and the love in their craft is felt in my drink. Thanks for a great birthday coffee! read more

We were very excited to have such a nice little coffee shop available in town, but I was disappointed to see that they are not enforcing COVID-19 restrictions with every customer. When I went in today, another patron had their mask pulled down below their chin for most of their visit. The barista working said nothing to them while I was inside. This is a very tiny space - to not respect the clear signage asking for masks is flat out rude of that customer (a common problem in this area), but the fact that the barista did nothing to enforce the posted rules is frustrating and dangerous. read more
