This place is great if you like pretentious people staring at their phones for 5 minutes, making silent eye contact with you all the while, and then deciding to come over and ring you up once their text is perfectly crafted without a "sorry about that," or "sorry I just found this killer meme and had to ignore you" or anything really! This place is even better when said person charges you $4 for a cold brew, you tip them none the less because it's COVID, and they return with a 75% filled cold brew and turn around back inside before I can even mention anything. I've been here a few times pre/post Covid (dine in pre, to go post). This general "holier than though" vibe has been consistent every time. If you're gonna try and gentrify a neighborhood with a copy/pasted silverlake brunch spot and least try to be nice to your customers so you can become part of the community instead of making them feel inferior for even trying to get "specialty coffee." 2 stars though because the food is pretty good and the cold brew did the trick. read more

I got the Scottish egg and fish slider which tasted amazing! It was pretty pricey though as both dishes were small and came out to around $15-16.. Love that the menu has some variety and is a pretty good value. All the sandwiches are great and they offer a good amount of healthy options. Plenty of seating which makes it easy to lounge for a bit in contrast to some cafes that have people waiting for your seat. Lots of dirty dishes on majority of the tables. Interesting how all the individuals giving this place five stars are those who "live in the area" and are excited to have a new coffee shop in this "up and coming neighborhood". I came here on a Sunday, per a friends request, and could only find myself ordering an extremely pricey, watered down latte. The food is all mediocre. You find things like "avo toast" (lol), guava croissants, horchata lattes, and Japanese bowls...interesting how there's an ethnic infusion without the actual representation. Who knows though, in their defense, I didn't meet the owners or the chef. Maybe she's Japanese or maybe he's Mexican? Either way, there are better options elsewhere. I've lived in this neighborhood my whole life. While I'm excited for advancements, I'm not excited for establishments that don't represent the people that have lived here longer than the business to spark up and continue pushing them out. I hope the owner realizes this and does a better job at serving those who are actually from this community. It's great supporting new businesses but it's even better when those businesses contribute to a greater whole than a select few. read more

This place is probably one of my favorite coffee shops in LA. The vibes are just too good to describe. My usual order when I come here is either the Vegan (Or Not) Caesar or the Breakfast Sando with an Iced Oat Chaggaccino Coffee. It's HIGHLY LIKELY that I will come back ;). read more

I love this place; it's 2 miles from my hood, open air, has food and very solid drinks! Good for catching up with friends or grabbing a local breakfast or lunch. I've only had the coffee which is significantly above average; food/drinks are beautifully plated!! I often meet my girlfriends here, grab a cappuccino (they have a million different types of milks so rest assured your dietary need will be covered), and sit outside and chat for hours. - Lunch time on the weekend - it may be challenging to get a seat - At times, it feels so hip, as if you're in Silver Lake or Echo Park. Not sure how people feel about this but to me, it tells me cafes like this are in HIGH DEMAND! I enjoy the happy, bubbling atmosphere. - If you like this place, I recommend supporting HILLTOP Coffee, another coffee/food cafe south of this place -- also amazing! - Prices are OK. I think the best thing on the menu (and what I keep coming back for) is the BTLA (with an added egg). Ingredients are very fresh and it's just delicious. Their hot mocha is also amazing. Be forewarned, this place is a hipster mecca. It's wayyy over the top in that sense, people are trying real hard to be their best LA hipster self. But the food is great!! I went at around 12:30 pm on a Tuesday and it was busy and there was a very long line. We got our food quickly after ordering though; it seemed like most of the people there were in WFH status and not ordering food. I got a latte and the new burger. Coffee was smooth and delicious and the burger was amazing -- one of my favorite cheeseburgers I have had in ages. Cooked perfectly and so flavorful yet simple. THESE SANDWICHES ARE AMAZING! I got the chicken sandwich which was fried with panko instead of regular breading and trust, it made a difference. They used a soft but sturdy bread and they didn't use some basic lettuce, well dressed mixed greens over here. The homemade pickles on the side were a great accompaniment. My mom got a halloumi sandwich which I took a bite of and it was so well put together, there was a spicier sauce that I didn't get time to identify but totally solid. My cousin got the vegetarian burrito and he's a pretty calm person so the little smile he gave when I asked how it was said a lot. Didn't get to try any espresso but they look pretty good. Order: two fish sandwiches and one veggie sandwich. I can't remember the name of the veggie sandwich but it wasn't that great. I had the French Toast. Not a fan. I wouldn't recommend it. I would rather of had a normal French toast. It was a soggy texture that I didn't like. The flavor was not good it was definitely 2 stars. Terrible customer service from cashier waitress who was rude. They put burnt plastic into yams as retaliation for my baby to eat and Jose was extremely aggressive instead of deescalatory like a manager should be, on an argument with the waitress that he was not present on. No amount of argument is fair game for people putting cancer causing plastics burnt into your food for your kids, then apologizing acknowledging, refunding u for it before continuing to be rude. Jose the manager apologizes for cashier rudeness below in other peoples complaints, but in person was saying that the waitress never has any problems and gaslighting me and calling me an "a-hole" in an altercation with waitress where there was no name calling other than me annoyed that they wouldn't take $100 bills. I said hey I didn't appreciate that I had to wait in line again coz u guys don't take 100s, she could have easily said sorry I already put ur order in earlier your good. Instead she goes Are you serious? And gives me an attitude. I was like u could have easily said u put in the order instead of telling me to take a hike basically originally, and told her not to give me an attitude. Then I find burnt plastic on my yams which they refund me for and apologize for the mistake, but after my child has already ate it. Then Jose comes to chew me out as judge and jury on an argument he wasn't there for, saying I made her cry when I told her to stop giving me an attitude after gaslighting me acting like She had put in the order all along when clearly she didn't until I complained to other employees. Yes I complained but did I call her an asshole or attack her ? No all I said was the policy is wack if I'm spending $80 and they can't break $100s (you clearly have the change from the money I JUST gave u 60 seconds ago u could have given me)... I guess Jose was just trying to defend his own employee who I made cry by me saying "that's not what u said earlier with ur own mouth." After she said "are u serious?? What else do u want I already put in ur order." Instead of her saying "don't worry I already put in ur order earlier sorry about our policy out of my control." Maybe it's lost in translation and she thought I was dissing her mouth or something I just meant words out of ur mouth. I don't know how Jose can make a call that I was being the asshole other than other employees saying I was annoyed by the policy, but he wasn't there for the actual exchange with the rude front cashier. With all the inflation and the prices here, customers waiting in a long line then finding out they don't take $100s can be an expected annoyance. The staff should expect it and be nice about it rather than give a smart unbothered and rude attitude. Manager should be deescalatory rather than declare me pointing out to her that that's not what she was saying earlier out of her own mouth as "a-holeish". I like this place! Not only does it have a great vibe and looks pretty cool, but the workers are great too! I tried the avocado toast, and like every other hip spot it was pricey BUT it was good! Not only was it delicious, but presentation wise it was on point as well! Very beautiful, they even added eatable flowers. I also tried a cappuccino, that is what I usually get to try new coffee places and let me tell you that it was pretty darn good coffee too! I really wanted to love this place overall, but I just can't. The food is OK & does photograph really well though, good for people needing content for their social media. I love the aesthetic of the place and the way the menu items read and what they appear to offer. The poor rating is attributed to the poor customer service, the kind that affects your visit all around and impacts even how your food tastes. We had never been there before so had a few questions about the menu and the person at the counter taking our order was very rude and impatient, not helpful, the tone she used, well it's really baffling. I thought to myself maybe she's just having a bad day we all have those... Fast forward to the person picking up our plates when we were finished with our food, the self-awareness was just not there as were talking she's reaching in between Us and it's a bit disruptive. It's as if she was a robot. We say thank you and she just looks up and no response. So strange. This happens about two more times after. So maybe she's having a bad day too? Our food was average tasting but can't tell if we were biased because of the bad service I would be down to try it out again in hopes of better attitudes and hope the place just doesn't have that juju overall. I'm a champion for small businesses too, but I feel bad for whoever owns this place if they aren't aware of the working staff they employed and their not so kind customer service and lack of hospitality. The ambiance is nice, and the interior is clean, modern, and open. Felt hip and trendy. Food: I ordered the bodega breakfast sandwich w bacon and it was bomb. Eggs were cooked perfectly, not sure what kind of cheese sauce magic that put on the Sando....but yum. The potato bun is what sent me...so soft and the sandwich just melted. Delish! Highly Likely to screw your order up. Highly overpriced. Highly subpar. It never fails. I order from this place often because I work on the same block/it's the most convenient and 9 times out of 10, something is wrong with my order. The staff (besides one barista; I'm blanking on his name right now) is really useless and do not even make eye contact with you if you're picking up a order. THEY ARE VERY INTENTIONAL about prioritizing their dine-in line. I've waited an extra 15 minutes (on top of my initial wait time) to pick up my order simply because the staff would not even LOOK at me while they were tending to the other line. I feeeeeeel like, it's because I'm black and majority of their customers are white LA "West Jefferson" transplants. They forgot to include my drink in my order and I was told they'r unable to issue a refund...just because. They take no accountability for their mistakes. They're very stingy with their serving sizes (for salads at least). I paid $15 for a very basic vegan caesar salad. The croutons were essentially crumbs. The bowl was basically half empty. The avocado was old and dark and did not taste good. Not to mention, they BLAST their music if you're dining in. You can't even hear yourself talk. I don't see how people work from this place. Last thing, I don't think this place is worth the money. They do have some cool things on the menu but considering I'm a South Central native, I really don't appreciate this place. It's clearly not a space for me nor does it try to be. I would feel differently if the cuisine was actually special and if the service was good. But y'all non LA natives have fun.
